We had the most wonderful view across the loch towards Fort William, right at the water’s edge. The hotel is right by the ferry dock, which makes it very convenient and a fun way to arrive. The car ferry was out of action so we left the car at Corran and took the pedestrian ferry across, giving us a short free boat ride! There is a free pedestrian ferry from here up to Fort William whilst the car ferry is out action. It takes about an hour but is a wonderful way to travel, and takes you right to the centre of Fort William. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, the food was not fancy but good. The bar was cozy and busy with a nice atmosphere. The room was a little old fashioned but was spotlessly clean, and had character with thick walled window recess.

Food - excellent (haggis balls, mmm; fish pie surely a best ever) Service - really friendly, really helpful, really quick, never pushy Ambience - bar area is great, a simple Highland feel, very relaxed; front dining room plain but blissful peace-and-quiet, no musak The Extra Mile - we were staying in a pod nearby with a microwave and fridge - but no cutlery, crockery, pans or utensils - The Inn gladly helped us out with picnic kit (and uncorked our bottle for the other night...!!!)

Extremely welcoming hotel with lovely staff, excellent dinner and breakfast and a good selection of malts behind the bar. The room was spacious and comfy and what you'd expect from a traditional Scottish hotel. The ferry across from the mainland was easy to use and ran regularly, so there was no problem getting there (PLEASE don't believe the nonsense scare stories about 'ferry chaos' in Scotland). Our dog was welcome in the bar and at breakfast, which was a nice touch too. There's also a great home brewery about half a mile up the road where you can sit outside with a beer around a camp fire. A great stopping-off point if you're heading further north and want to break up the journey. We only stayed for one night but will definitely be back!

We had a great weekend at The Inn at Ardgour! It's a cozy family run place. The pub and lounge areas are really nice and perfect for relaxing after long walks in the day. Our bedroom was simple but had its own charm. The bed was super comfy, we slept really well. They also kindly made us a vegan breakfast. The location is stunning, right by the water, and you can easily get there by ferry. We highly recommend The Inn at Ardgour and will definitely be back!

Lovely food and friendly staff. Short menu which is good news in my opinion with fish, meat and vegan options all available. Starter main course and desserts. Fresh vegetables which are included in the price and cooked well, not overcooked. We had a main course of beef stew which had succulent meat, creamy mash and the fresh veggies. We shared a starter and dessert, both delicious. A note that the coffee is also good here!

My wife and I visited the Bothy Bar and Restaurant at the Strontian Hotel. Confusingly, although the restaurant is physically connected to the hotel, it is owned by different people. It is not open for long, doesn't seat many diners, and does get very busy so I would recommend booking as far in advance as possible. The food we had was great, and the serving staff were very friendly and helpful. I would heartily recommend the Cullen Skink, it was amazing, and full of wonderful seafood.

A romantic dinner after crossing the Loch on the Corran ferry. We stayed with friends many years ago in Ardgour, this brought back so many memories. The Inn was serving venison stew so we couldn't miss it, lovely food friendly staff. Then a 5 min ferry back across, live this wee place!

Visited for dinner after a recommendation from the staff at Corran bunkhouse. The 5 minute ferry journey as a foot passenger was free and added to the experience (although I made sure to note the last ferry time for the return journey). On arrival the pub was fairly busy for a Monday night with a great atmosphere. The barman/owner was very friendly and attentive despite having so many people to serve. I ordered haggis balls to start and the fish supper, both were delicious. There was a good selection of beers on tap also. Overall it was a great experience and I’ll definitely return in future.

However a two minute walk to the ferry and a view from the room that was wonderful to waken up to made the rating far higher than it otherwise would be. The staff we encountered were friendly, helpful and welcoming, including one lady who said she'd only begun working there the week before. The food was of a quality and quantity you'd expect for the prices, good pub dinner fayre. The only thing that stopped us eating there more than twice is that the menu was a bit limited, particularly for the one person in our party requiring a guten-free vegetarian meal! We booked a family room, which is two adjoining rooms one with a double bed, and three bunk beds in the other room with bathroom. It has plenty of room for us, a family of 5. The food at their restaurant was worth overeating for. I had fish and chips and had my eyes on their pasta and lasagna the second night but they get really busy. So, we checked with them and the wait was 20 minutes, so decided against the splurge. The location of the inn cannot be better. It is the first stop from the ferry and watching ferrys come and leave between 6:30am and 9pm was quite unique. It was the natural wakeup call in the morning. We also drove on the other side of the loch that doesnt require ferry to Glenfinnian and isle of Skye and it was worth it. I would stay here again without second thoughts. Leave rush behind when you come to the Inn at Ardgour. They also have a recreation room in the back with books and games.

Had dinner here one night and the food was very good and the staff very friendly. But it's a bit dated and could do with a re vamp. Also the waiters only bought food, you had to go to the bar if you wanted more wine.

Rooms are a bit dated, but clean, well-kept, and spacious enough. Common area is large with sitting areas for groups. The pub has decent beer selections, and of course scotch. Crossing by ferry is easily done if coming on the east side of the loch. Restaurant has a diverse selection for a small lodging hotel.

What a quaint hotel! Rooms are very cosy and warm...with en-suite which was more than comfortable. Our water didn’t get very hot but plumber came in to check and our unit was faulty -so will be fixed. Owner gave us a discount -very kind!

On a envie d'y rester.

When crossing on the ferry The Inn at Ardgour looks idyllic, but as we found out looks can be deceptive. I thought it was strange when upon checking in to the Inn there was no ‘hello’ or ‘welcome’, in fact there was no verbal communication at all. The chap on reception simply stared at us, and I think unless we’d spoken we could have stood there in silence for some time. When we entered our room we were shocked, the seat cushion was dirty, the pillow on the bed was marked and the window was filthy, goodness knows when it was last washed. The net curtain in the window was also marked and looked like it was the original from when the Inn first opened in the early 1900s. When we used the shower we discovered that there was a repetitive air lock that caused the shower to run cold for some minutes then hot, then cold without warning and at one point not running at all, when I was standing covered in soap. As we’d booked the accommodation through Expedia I mentioned these aspects on the check-in review. I was surprised to see that the management of the Inn had replied to my online Expedia check-in review and said he was sorry I ‘believed’ that our room was dirty and that if I wanted to mention it to him we could discuss it. How strange, so although the management acknowledged my concerns it was up to me to raise it with him!? Even though he knew who I was and in which room we were staying!? Isn’t it supposed to be the host who is supposed to address guests’ concerns? We’d booked for 3 nights so we thought we’d try and manage the issues, particularly as the area around the Inn is beautiful - stunning scenery and Scottish mists. Sadly the situation steadily deteriorated. The shower became worse and worse, someone had tried to clean the seat cushion but the windows and net curtain remained the same - Check the photos; there is no ‘belief’ here, simply facts, the room was dirty, old, tired and unacceptable. On the second morning of our stay our breakfast experience was akin to Fawlty Towers. The table designated for our room had been used by somebody else, the bowls were dirty, no staff were on duty in the breakfast area and there were no glasses available on the buffet so you couldn’t serve yourself any orange juice. At that point I decided that enough was enough so in order to get some breakfast I had to tell the chap on reception what the situation was in the breakfast area. At which point he leapt to his feet and dashed off to do goodness knows what. We finally were served breakfast in what bordered on a chaotic situation of a young lad doing the best he could in difficult circumstances. I made it clear to the chap on reception that we weren’t staying another night and we would pay what we owed and were leaving. There was no apology, and no enquiry as to why we were leaving early - very strange, almost as though this was what happened. We’d been touring Scotland for the week and we’d stayed in hotels with far better standards and value for money, this Inn was the exception, providing sub-standard accommodation and poor service. If you’re staying for one night you may be able to cope, but otherwise I’d steer clear of The Inn at Ardgour unless you have nowhere else to stay.

Fantastic staff! Great location! After a day we would rather forget (flat tire on rental), we arrived at the ferry, crossed right away...quick crossing and arrived at the inn. We were greeted and checked in promptly. Our room was quaint and suited our needs. We decided to have dinner and were not disappointed! Starter of Haggis was an excellent suggestion by our server! I had the lamb burger...outstanding and enough for two! Hubby has steak hotpot, which was very tastey. Our son had fish and chips. Dessert was a cloudy dumpling, with a whiskey cream sauce and took my hubby back to the days of his Grans dumpling. Great atmosphere, staff and food. I wanted to stay in a quaint inn, and I found it! Will be back...can't say enough about the haggis!

The Inn is comfortable enough and we stayed due to the location, being near to Fort William. However, I have to say that the whole place is quite dated and tired and could do with complete refurbishment. The staff are friendly and pleasant and were receptive to suggestions about improvements, especially for people with mobility problems.

I stayed with a group of friends for a long weekend to visit the local area and to hike up Ben Nevis. The first thing to consider about this hotel is it's location on the west side of Loch Linnhe. If coming from the south, you have to go across to the hotel on the Corrun Ferry which is £8.50 each way for a car and it's passengers. Foot passengers and bicycles are free, however the parking on the Corran side is for daytime only (no overnight) so you can't park the car and go over and back on foot and are forced to pay the £8.50 each way, unless you drive all the way around the Loch which is about 30 miles! We found that everything we wanted to do i.e. Ben Nevis, Fort William, Loch Ness etc. required us to go over on the ferry, so bear in mind what your activities will be and don't make the mistake we made of clocking up over £50.00 just to go back and forth before even travelling anywhere... The hotel itself is pretty plain and tired in decor and we felt that the bar area was awkward because it was also the main dining area. If you went for a drink before dinner, you would be sitting at the same table that you'd be eating at, so no comfortable chairs and coffee tables like you would expect in a pub. There was a room at the back of the hotel, not connected to the bar, where there were lounge type seats and a selection of board games etc. on the shelves around them. I went in there a couple of times and it was absolutely empty so we would have been sitting there by ourselves with no bar or atmosphere, so something terribly wrong about the layout which could easily be resolved by swapping the lounge and dining areas so that the 'casual' seating was actually in the same room as the bar! The food was distinctly average or below average and was expensive as well. They don't show their menu online but for instance 'Classic Fish and Chips' was £15.95 'Greek Style Lamb Burger' £15.95 'Cumberland Sausage and Mash' £15.95 'Pan Seared Scallops' £19.50 and most vegetarian options priced at £13.95 to £14.95. You would expect this kind of pricing in an up-market restaurant and for the food to be prepared and served to a much higher standard. Unlike a lot of other traveller reviews, we didn't find the staff particularly welcoming although pleasant enough. The young man who served our table on a number of occasions wore the same food-stained clothing day after day, which seriously makes you wonder about the negligence of the management to notice this and whether or not there are sloppy standard elsewhere in the food preparation and service areas? Overall as you can probably guess, I didn't enjoy my stay there and felt that the hotel has a 'captive audience' once you've paid the extortionate ferry fare and put both their accommodation and food prices up to take advantage of the very limited choices in the area. For all of those reasons, we would not go there again...

lovely family-style Inn on the lakeshore, with great atmosphere and very comfortable accomodations. Our host was very welcoming and pleasant, the rooms were clean and spacey. Dinner was great, and the best part of the guests lounge, with homely decor, books and games. I recomand it whole-heartedly!

We passed The Inn while getting off the ferry earlier today. Went back for dinner and we were glad we did. I ordered some fresh fish and chips, and what arrived at the table was a huge fish and a mountain of yummy chips underneath. Almost couldn’t finish my plate but obviously had saved room for desert! Triple chocolate brownie and a sticky toffee pudding. Lovely! Appears to be just a small Inn but it is lovely and such lovely staff. Great views of Loch Linnhe. Benches outside too so would be great on a sunny day to look at the views. Will definitely visit again!!
