The Indian Cottage Tandoori in Adur

Was recommended but would not go there. Service was poor and seemed very unorganised. The chicken in one of the dishes was questionable with no check backs. Venue had potential but food and staffing was a let down

We ate at the Indian Cottage, after a break of a few years, with some hesitation because of recent negative reviews. However, they are not justified as we had an excellent evening. The food was as good and plentiful as ever, the service attentive, the drinks good and reasonable value. A carafe of iced water provided free of charge. We will be going back as soon as we're in Shoreham again.

2.5 hrs to receive our food, started eating my "Chicken Pathia" which was more Chicken Korma than Pathia. Very disappointing!

food is always fantastic from Indian cottage as I have ordered many times through just eat and it has mostly been on time, but this time being an hour late and the food was cold which I had to reheat I was not satisfied with the service especially as I paid delivery charges aswell

Worse "indian" i have ever had. Restaurant is quaint yes..but also dirty, electrical wires taped to the ceiling, and i noted trays of pickles and yogurt left uncovered on a shelf. Drinks were flat and warm which isnt great when u just want a nice diet coke, seriously how hard is it to use a few ice cubes?Plates after poppadoms not taken away and we waited nearly an hour for our food. Waiting staff a bit odd really, when asked what was happening with our food order we were told " i dont really get involved with the food"..then he just walked off. When it did arrive, i have never tasted such a bland piece of chicken tikka..it looked the part but literally tasted of NOTHING and i mean, NOTHING. I highly advise the kitchen staff to start tasting their food again....i have no idea why it was so busy. Never returning

Best tasty indian in the neighboorhood

I would normally order from this place as my 'go to' curry house, however, never again! The food is cooked well in most cases, the Korma is their best cooked dish, hence me ordering from here for years. But the service experienced when the delivery was missing key items, i.e. the rice, extremely poor customer service / LACK OF. I never got my rice and therefore will NEVER use this place again, the service over the years has just got worse and worse, to now in which they simple offer no service what so ever. The guy on the phone was constantly talking over me whilst i tried to explain the issue they have caused with the missing key ingredient. I will advise as many people in shoreham as possible to avoid this place at all costs. Usually the wait times for delivery are excesses too, every other takeaway place is within 30-40 minutes, this place can take over an hour most of the time. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!

the order took nearly 2 hours to be delivered. when it arrived it was luke warm. therefore had to re heat it ! really disappointed as I could have ordered locally but have previously enjoyed fabulous food and service from this restaurant! please be honest with your delivery times

Very good food and very reasonable prices

The last 4 orders from here have been late. I've said every time I won't order again from here and this time I mean it. The food was cold too. The salad was warmer than the onion bhaji! I like a curry now and again and have been a loyal customer from eating in the restaurant and having takeaways for years. Such a shame, The food, apart from being cold this time, is always delicious and good value. Just the delivery service let's them down. Chillies Indian is 2 minutes away, will go there now.

Delivered 45 minutes late, took nearly 2 hours from ordering to receive. Food arrived cold and not enjoyable at all!

Food was not hot. It was warm. We came in as a party of six and looked forward to food as we have had previous enjoyment through takeaway long in the past. I ordered mushroom rice and the waiter came up to us with an extra portion of garlic rice. He proceeded to laugh in my face when i said we ordered mushroom rice. He corrected me and said we ordered garlic rice which wasn't the case even with the notes on our phone still. We will not be visiting/ordering from this place due to poor service in the past aswell. Especially with this occasion

I have used this curry house for years, having known the family for that run it for a long time. In my opinion, you can always get a good meal here and the set menu that they offer is the best value that you can get locally

We sat down for lunch and ordered from the set menu. The food was excellent especially the lamb phaal ! Very clean and tidy restaurant, the staff are very friendly too !

I have been using this restaurant for 15 years. I always get a great welcome from Abdul and his team and the food is always good. I love it.

An excellent lunch - set price of £15.95 which was great value . Delicious food, surprisingly large portions for a lunch deal, and outstanding service from charming staff. The vegetable dishes deserve a special mention. Try it if you are in Shoreham !

Belting Indian restaurant. Great food, fantastic service and excellent value

Surprised at some of the reviews, almost as if they were talking about a different restaurant. We visited with friends, loved the quirkiness of the old building as it felt more initimate in the small rooms and you didn't have to shout over the noise from other tables. Food was excellent, ordered a vegetable thali, prawn bhuna, king prawn bhuna and a vegetable balti. Huge portions, generous amounts of prawns (not the usual small handful), balti tasted like the authentic Birmingham baltihouse curries which is rare. Mushroom rice praised for being proper fried mushrooms in the the rice which added to the flavour. Naans brought out fresh and piping hot. Bill for 4 with poppodums and drinks came to £88. Amazing value. One of the best curries we've had anywhere, and we have tried many, many places over the years.

Food arrived for the time we specified, was hot, delicious and portion sizes were great, lots of chicken, great sauce.

The owner of the restaurant is friendly, however same cannot be said for the chef who was needlessly rude and spoke with his back to me last time I visited. They also use very low quality chicken which has little flavour or texture, even when it’s been in the tandoor oven. Lovely building, but in need of a deep clean. Won’t be going back

It just wasn’t as nice as normal has no flavour the kurma defo wasn’t a korma it didn’t takes at all like one and the fried chicken wasn’t really fried chicken I’ve ordered from here loads just not recently and I’m not sure I would again, disappointed

Not a good experience. The venue is sticky and needs a proper clean. The waiter had stains on his clothes that would take weeks to accumulate. If you can’t present yourself then what chance has the rest of it got. Poppadoms that you can bend, chutney selection, well the onions must have been cut up days ago and left out, when you chew they have lost their crunch. The food very bland, some of the chicken was inedible as it was so chewy and made me gag and also had a strange background taste, rice poor and the Kingfisher beer I had with it was slightly flat. The naan was nice though. A party of six and we all came to the same conclusion. Needs to up its game but I’ll never know if it has.

Horrible this place has gone way down hill. We were sat next to a filthy dirty radiator. The staff were unwelcoming or attentive. The food was stopped in bowls and slapped in front of us. Shabby service and decor.

There was 19 of us tonight and all the food was fab. Hot and tasty ad came out together. Thank you.

Heard good things about this place so decided to try. Sadly it was disappointed. Nan bread wasn’t baked properly, it was partially raw. Food must have been reheated as it wasn’t even that hot when it was served. In general had a better Indian food.

Food was poor. Ordered grilled mixed meats and it was not freshly cooked but rather re-heated (and burnt). Quality of meat terrible, no taste, dry, burnt. Nan bread was underbaked. Not worth the money. Quiet surprised to see this in the restaurant. Service mixed- some polite, some rushed, depending on the waiter.

When it takes over 90mins to arrive it’s slightly ridiculous. The food is great quality as always though.

I have been ordering from here for 15 years and never had a problem. Today was a horrible experience. A worker called Jolah was threatening and aggressive. Telling me to shut up and he "couldn't wait to come to my house to see me" I am a female who only called to ask about my order. Everyone else was lovely but he's a disgusting human being. Won't ever order again.

two weeks running they never delivered my starter, food was late and cold will not use this takeaway again.

Had a family get-together on Boxing Day evening (8 of us), we've been many times on this day over the years but this year was particularly important as we had lost a loved family member. The main dishes came really quickly after the starters. We were not asked if we wanted desserts/coffees and realised why on leaving. All the other tables were empty, chairs stacked on top of tables all ready for hoovering. We sat down at 7pm and were out of there by 8.45pm (8 of us). I wish they'd told us on booking that they wanted to close early, we could've come at 6pm/6.30pm and not felt rushed.

V tasty and great value if you go for the set menu 😋 Xmas eve at £15.95, can't go wrong!

Thought we would try this place but it turned out to be one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. The restaurant seemed dirty, the rice was chewy and the chicken in the curries tasted questionable. To top it off we spent the whole evening swatting flies.

Meal was okay but not brilliant

A very good and enjoyable place with great atmosphere. Glad we got there early as it was packed later on. Clearly a popular place for dining. Would definitely go again to try other dishes.

Went in with four friends; we've visited before and it's been ok but this time the food was poor. Two of our party had madras and it was very mild. One sent it back and it returned with no discernible difference. I had a ceylon and it had little flavour and no heat at all. I can (and do) cook better curry than this at home. Will not be returning.

Wish I'd thought to look at these reviews before we went last night. Ordered lamb balti it arrived in a bowl and was cold. Didn't taste like a curry not spicy. Cant believe how popular the place is though. It was packed which is odd as it really was the most disappointing curry I have ever had

The worst Indian meal I have had - the chicken Bhuna was tasteless, I know Bhuna is mild but this tasted of nothing with a lack of onion and tomato also with pre cooked tasteless lumps of chicken. My wife's Rogan Josh was also tasteless. Poppadoms didn't taste fresh

Handy for the nearby Ropetackle Centre and located as the name implies in and old and characterful cottage on Shoreham Hight Street, we went here for a pre-gig dinner. First in, we were greeted and seated pleasantly enough. Order was accurate but the staff who took over the serving were rather on the brusque and unsmiling side. The food (chicken tikka massala and garlic chilli chicken) was reasonable without being particularly distinctive. The restaurant soon filled up (including a couple of large groups)...

Set meal for 1. Great service all round from ordering to delivery. Variety of sauces & side salads to accompany the main dish. Will order again.

Just yuk. I unfortunately found several hairs in my food. A fresh meal was made but I couldn't face eating after finding thick black hairs in my dinner. My partner also didn't feel too grand after.

Not my first time ordering here. Sometimes we got 2 veg salads for today only 1. But food still tastes good

Wow what's happened to the best curry restaurant in shoreham. Last time I visited was along time ago, 20 years plus due to the bad reviews Thought I'd give it a go as Calcutta was fully booked. What can I say, bad lighting, filthy carpet, rude service. I ordered a chicken dansak, tasted more like a Thai green curry!! Warm flat beer. Why doesn't the owner ( same owner for 20 years +) realise they are dishing out poor tasteless food!! I suggest you avoid, unless you want a poor evening.

Lovely Food - all popadoms, curries and rices are Gluten Free and the owner and staff were super reassuring of it, which was my coeliac dream! Couldn’t have the onion bajis or nann breads which is pretty typical, and I didn’t mind. Food was really good, and didn’t effect me after. The service was a little slow, but it was obviously a very busy Friday for a popular curry house, so can’t complain really.

Food test is not good as i expected, using colour to make food nice. Too much tomato purees and sweet test where indian food is not sweet test it's bit spicy and solty. No parking facilities available so heard to find a place for parking. Sorry but not happy with food.

Very good, best I’ve had for a long time

Had a takeout & found the food incredibly tasteless & bland - my first & last visit.

Went in a very large group, fairly late. Staff were nice and gave us some super spicy chicken to try. Food was quick and tasty. Took some home after (what I couldn’t finish).

Delivery just taken. One of the blandest madras I have ever tasted. Rest of the food was similarly non descript. Maybe more quality when sitting in, but I won't be trying it.

Hair found in my food. Manager swore it could not be from the kitchen, no way. It was in the batter so it hadn't gotten in there any other way apart from before being cooked. Disgusting, didn't finish our meal and won't be back.

We both had the Meat Thali. Delicious food and generous portion sizes. Very attentive waiters. We got chatting about what a beautiful old building we were in and we were treated to a history tour! E

Superb place , I decided a last minute birthday treat meal for a family member, such a happy relaxing atmosphere the minute we stepped in and the food and service was incredible Even treated to a bottle of wine for the birthday girl ! Will definitely make this place our go to Indian in the future Many thanks

I wouldn't normally leave a bad review but I really wasn't impressed. Service was extremely slow, I'd say we waited between 45 minutes to an hour from poppadoms to mains. I'm not as familiar with Indian food than those I was with but none of them were particularly impressed with their meals. The bhaji tasted like it was cooked in old oil, or wasn't right in some way. Not the restaurants' fault per se, but there was a group of men seated to us talking very loudly and swearing, but they weren't challenged once despite it affecting other customers' experience. The server kept repeating the wrong drinks order and the birthday something I had requested earlier, a small cake with candle was offered, didn't appear. The toilets left little to be desired too. So all in all, not the best choice for my partner's birthday meal and I'll not be going back.

Great food and friendly service, our go to restaurant for a eat in house curry. Their special set menu at £14.95 is great value for money.

All was good, Nice portion size, except both curries tasted the same, tad disappointing.

Disappointed with the prawn dansak . Prawns were rubbery and had to leave some of the meal uneaten. Sauce was not up to your usual standard , Lamb Dansak was not up to your usual standard but was just about acceptable .

I probably should have just phoned through my order as I would have been given a more realistic idea as to when my order could be delivered as it was a busy Saturday evening but I like the way the App gives you a running total of the cost of your order. I have visited the restaurant lots of times over my years living in Shoreham and once again I found the food to be of generous portions and very tasty. I couldn’t tell you how authentic the food might be but actually I’m not really that bothered about that sort of thing. If my food had arrived a bit quicker I would have given top marks.

If you looking for a proper indian food as them name. Don’t go. As a test is totally out of test and and even they don’t know half of the indian items. Yes, as a location is a fantastic. Is everything is vintage. Suggestion : Don’t go waste of money and time.

Went for a mid week curry fix and have to say that this is a lovely place with reasonably good food run by a great team of people all at an excellent price. Food was well cooked and well presented and all dishes (4 diners) were first class with good sized portions.
