The Indian Cottage Tandoori in Adur

Not a good experience. The venue is sticky and needs a proper clean. The waiter had stains on his clothes that would take weeks to accumulate. If you can’t present yourself then what chance has the rest of it got. Poppadoms that you can bend, chutney selection, well the onions must have been cut up days ago and left out, when you chew they have lost their crunch. The food very bland, some of the chicken was inedible as it was so chewy and made me gag and also had a strange background taste, rice poor and the Kingfisher beer I had with it was slightly flat. The naan was nice though. A party of six and we all came to the same conclusion. Needs to up its game but I’ll never know if it has.

Horrible this place has gone way down hill. We were sat next to a filthy dirty radiator. The staff were unwelcoming or attentive. The food was stopped in bowls and slapped in front of us. Shabby service and decor.

There was 19 of us tonight and all the food was fab. Hot and tasty ad came out together. Thank you.

Food was poor. Ordered grilled mixed meats and it was not freshly cooked but rather re-heated (and burnt). Quality of meat terrible, no taste, dry, burnt. Nan bread was underbaked. Not worth the money. Quiet surprised to see this in the restaurant. Service mixed- some polite, some rushed, depending on the waiter.

Heard good things about this place so decided to try. Sadly it was disappointed. Nan bread wasn’t baked properly, it was partially raw. Food must have been reheated as it wasn’t even that hot when it was served. In general had a better Indian food.

I have been ordering from here for 15 years and never had a problem. Today was a horrible experience. A worker called Jolah was threatening and aggressive. Telling me to shut up and he "couldn't wait to come to my house to see me" I am a female who only called to ask about my order. Everyone else was lovely but he's a disgusting human being. Won't ever order again.

Had a family get-together on Boxing Day evening (8 of us), we've been many times on this day over the years but this year was particularly important as we had lost a loved family member. The main dishes came really quickly after the starters. We were not asked if we wanted desserts/coffees and realised why on leaving. All the other tables were empty, chairs stacked on top of tables all ready for hoovering. We sat down at 7pm and were out of there by 8.45pm (8 of us). I wish they'd told us on booking that they wanted to close early, we could've come at 6pm/6.30pm and not felt rushed.

V tasty and great value if you go for the set menu 😋 Xmas eve at £15.95, can't go wrong!

Thought we would try this place but it turned out to be one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. The restaurant seemed dirty, the rice was chewy and the chicken in the curries tasted questionable. To top it off we spent the whole evening swatting flies.

A very good and enjoyable place with great atmosphere. Glad we got there early as it was packed later on. Clearly a popular place for dining. Would definitely go again to try other dishes.

Went in with four friends; we've visited before and it's been ok but this time the food was poor. Two of our party had madras and it was very mild. One sent it back and it returned with no discernible difference. I had a ceylon and it had little flavour and no heat at all. I can (and do) cook better curry than this at home. Will not be returning.

Wish I'd thought to look at these reviews before we went last night. Ordered lamb balti it arrived in a bowl and was cold. Didn't taste like a curry not spicy. Cant believe how popular the place is though. It was packed which is odd as it really was the most disappointing curry I have ever had

The worst Indian meal I have had - the chicken Bhuna was tasteless, I know Bhuna is mild but this tasted of nothing with a lack of onion and tomato also with pre cooked tasteless lumps of chicken. My wife's Rogan Josh was also tasteless. Poppadoms didn't taste fresh

Handy for the nearby Ropetackle Centre and located as the name implies in and old and characterful cottage on Shoreham Hight Street, we went here for a pre-gig dinner. First in, we were greeted and seated pleasantly enough. Order was accurate but the staff who took over the serving were rather on the brusque and unsmiling side. The food (chicken tikka massala and garlic chilli chicken) was reasonable without being particularly distinctive. The restaurant soon filled up (including a couple of large groups)...

Just yuk. I unfortunately found several hairs in my food. A fresh meal was made but I couldn't face eating after finding thick black hairs in my dinner. My partner also didn't feel too grand after.

Lovely Food - all popadoms, curries and rices are Gluten Free and the owner and staff were super reassuring of it, which was my coeliac dream! Couldn’t have the onion bajis or nann breads which is pretty typical, and I didn’t mind. Food was really good, and didn’t effect me after. The service was a little slow, but it was obviously a very busy Friday for a popular curry house, so can’t complain really.

Wow what's happened to the best curry restaurant in shoreham. Last time I visited was along time ago, 20 years plus due to the bad reviews Thought I'd give it a go as Calcutta was fully booked. What can I say, bad lighting, filthy carpet, rude service. I ordered a chicken dansak, tasted more like a Thai green curry!! Warm flat beer. Why doesn't the owner ( same owner for 20 years +) realise they are dishing out poor tasteless food!! I suggest you avoid, unless you want a poor evening.

Food test is not good as i expected, using colour to make food nice. Too much tomato purees and sweet test where indian food is not sweet test it's bit spicy and solty. No parking facilities available so heard to find a place for parking. Sorry but not happy with food.

Disappointed ..,Ordered a takeaway for a family birthday. The food had always been OK but this time the portions were small, we got the wrong chutneys and although expensive there was not enough to go round

Had a takeout & found the food incredibly tasteless & bland - my first & last visit.

Went in a very large group, fairly late. Staff were nice and gave us some super spicy chicken to try. Food was quick and tasty. Took some home after (what I couldn’t finish).

Delivery just taken. One of the blandest madras I have ever tasted. Rest of the food was similarly non descript. Maybe more quality when sitting in, but I won't be trying it.

Superb place , I decided a last minute birthday treat meal for a family member, such a happy relaxing atmosphere the minute we stepped in and the food and service was incredible Even treated to a bottle of wine for the birthday girl ! We both had the Meat Thali. Delicious food and generous portion sizes. Very attentive waiters. We got chatting about what a beautiful old building we were in and we were treated to a history tour! E

Hair found in my food. Manager swore it could not be from the kitchen, no way. It was in the batter so it hadn't gotten in there any other way apart from before being cooked. Disgusting, didn't finish our meal and won't be back.

I wouldn't normally leave a bad review but I really wasn't impressed. Service was extremely slow, I'd say we waited between 45 minutes to an hour from poppadoms to mains. I'm not as familiar with Indian food than those I was with but none of them were particularly impressed with their meals. The bhaji tasted like it was cooked in old oil, or wasn't right in some way. Not the restaurants' fault per se, but there was a group of men seated to us talking very loudly and swearing, but they weren't challenged once despite it affecting other customers' experience. The server kept repeating the wrong drinks order and the birthday something I had requested earlier, a small cake with candle was offered, didn't appear. The toilets left little to be desired too. So all in all, not the best choice for my partner's birthday meal and I'll not be going back.

Great food and friendly service, our go to restaurant for a eat in house curry. Their special set menu at £14.95 is great value for money.

I probably should have just phoned through my order as I would have been given a more realistic idea as to when my order could be delivered as it was a busy Saturday evening but I like the way the App gives you a running total of the cost of your order. I have visited the restaurant lots of times over my years living in Shoreham and once again I found the food to be of generous portions and very tasty. I couldn’t tell you how authentic the food might be but actually I’m not really that bothered about that sort of thing. If my food had arrived a bit quicker I would have given top marks.

If you looking for a proper indian food as them name. Don’t go. As a test is totally out of test and and even they don’t know half of the indian items. Yes, as a location is a fantastic. Is everything is vintage. Suggestion : Don’t go waste of money and time.

Went for a mid week curry fix and have to say that this is a lovely place with reasonably good food run by a great team of people all at an excellent price. Food was well cooked and well presented and all dishes (4 diners) were first class with good sized portions.

Really enjoy it here, again I always book. Nice warm welcome. Seated and drinks and food ordered. food was lovely, look forward to going back again.

Our first and last visit here this evening. Came with our 2.5 year old hoping for a nice family meal but instead got told to move table to around the corner by the owner because our daughter started to cry!! Not a family friendly restaurant at all, please don’t visit if you have toddlers that cry when they are hungry as they will make you feel very unwelcome. By the look on their faces the moment we walked in they don’t welcome children. Food tasted bland too. Only thing this place has to offer is the cosy cottage environment but even that’s ruined by waiters that don’t leave you alone to have a conversation. Plenty of other nicer curry houses around.

Honestly my favourite Indian and best restaurant in Shoreham. Used to come here all the time (when living in the are), great service and excellent prices for potion. Miss being so close.

Service and food has gone downhill. When I complained even though I hadn't even eaten the food only tasty the sauce which was very bland. Its blantly obvious they are making cut backs and using cheap substitutes I have now been barred..which is a blessing coz I wouldn't eat there even if it was free as the last time i was there the chef came out and stood their picking his nose. No standard at all. I would NOT recommend indian cottage. PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS as going by other reviews they're saying food is bland!!!!

My husband and I ordered delivered take away. Delivery was quick. Veg. kashmir has no pineapple although it says so on the menu, not much veg just a few string beans and peas, more sauce and pots , Tasted bland. Peshwari Naan and Plain naan are chewy. Hubby's Jalfrezi is way too hot, made his eyes water. We are newly settled in the area trying local takeaways. This is the second time we ordered, we thought we give it another try, it's failed!

Visited this place as a group on Friday, the food was very good and enjoyed by all, the chicken tikka was superb. The staff could not do enough for us, they were very friendly and attentive - will definitely come again 👍

Very very nice food and the test is wonderful , I ordered tikka masala and it was delicious thank you very much.

A bit of a let down. I ordered the lamb rogan. The lamb was tender but the dish had little flavour. My friend reported the same with the chicken dansak. We were unfortunate to be sat next to a party that were completely smashed.

All food was very bland. I’ve never experienced curry like it anywhere! Me and my partner both had different lamb curry’s in different spice zones. Yet neither were spicy. Both were tasteless and one contained fish bones! How the hell does that happen? I complained on the quiet to two members of staff, who were apologetic, but didn’t look surprised. We didn’t eat anymore and didn’t even finish our drinks. When we asked for the bill, the manager did make an apology and removed one dish from the bill. You need to get get a grip guys. We were lucky enough not to have any allergies, but could have been very different in other cases. Very disappointed, we were staying close by and it always smelt beautiful, when walking past.

It is always a pleasure to dine at this restaurant. The staff are friendly and attentive and appear to remember guests even if they haven't visited for a long while. The menu is extensive and the food is well priced and very tasty. The tables are set in several small areas which gives a wonderful feeling of intimacy. One word of warning, though. Be careful to mind your head on the very low entrance door.

Everytime we order a takeaway or even go to the restaurant itself, the quality of the food is outstanding, generous portions and good value for money too,I would highly recommended as the staff is very friendly , we shall continue to use this restaurant everytime we want a high quality meal

Have been using Indian Cottage for years & had a lovely meal there xmas eve but just picked up a takeaway, price of the set menu up to £14.95, very disappointed in the food, very bland, didnt enjoy at all. Think we'll try else where next time. Price up, taste down!!!

Lovely cottage, very low ceilings and really nice. Food was hot, prompt and super tasty. Staff attentive and great with our little loud/jumpy kids. A little chilly in the front of the restaurant - but overall 5* great food, service, price.

I can't say much more than I have already for us everything about the restaurant is perfect and every body is different we all have our favourite and the Indian Cottage is ours.

Ordered myself and my family a takeaway recently, few friends had recommended to give this place a try, so we decided to try it out, although felt a bit guilty as we usually use a place just round the corner which has always been reliable and pretty good, but was told this place is miles better, how wrong they were, every curry we ordered was appalling, quite watery, zero flavour and zero spice, the most bland curry I have ever eaten, and the colours of the curries were VERY different to what I have eaten before, and the naan breads were undercooked and tasteless too, would never use again and won't listen to friends again as will stick to what we know!

It’s 23.08 my partner and I are eating cheese sandwiches because our delivery didn’t turn up!!! We called and were told our order had been missed we said ok these things happen!!! But we weren’t happy we spoke to the owner who couldn’t give a toss !! As I said we said these things happen just chuck us a couple of extra poppadoms in no worries he says you must pay for everything!!! We questioned this ?? Mentioning that they had forgotten our order he says “ I cancel your order” and put the phone down on us !!! Steer clear of this place !!!

We visited as a family of seven with a baby in high chair which the restaurant supplied. We were welcomed warmly and were given plenty of time to make our food choices. We never felt rushed and they could not be more helpful offering to adapt any curry to our individual request. The service was quick and very friendly. The food was amazing and the portion sizes are huge. It’s such good value. We will certainly go back and would very highly recommend this as a top place to visit for any type of occasion.

We were excited to try this Indian restaurant in a lovely setting, especially as it had been recommended as friendly, good food and cosy. Unfortunately this was Not the case! Two of the curry’s that were a tikka masala and a sag paneer were both strongly tasting of coconut milk and nothing else. Very disappointing and the onion bhajis were quick but not hot! We found the service to be very slow - waiting for so long to get someone’s attention. We won’t be back!

We visited this fine establishment on a Sunday evening and had an incredibly experience. Abdul was amazing and made us feel welcome and at home in this restaurant. His colleagues didn’t share his enthusiasm but this was just a hiccup in our curry-based adventure and we left with a full belly and smile on our faces. We will be returning very soon.

Just an alright curry. Pleasant, but nothing to get excited about. The vegetable Madras was good. The chicken Rogan was very mild despite being described on the menu as 'fairly hot'. The cauliflower bhajee was cold and the onion bhajees were reheated and quite floury inside. Not the best. Service was good. I just wish the food was more authentic.

Ordered several times form Indian Cottage. The food is reasonable but so slow. We waited an hour and a half last time. We thought we’d try again and then the wait was over 2 hours! I know it’s Friday night but come on. Over 2 hours?!

All I can say is what a lovely lovely meal great service warm environment and the food was outstanding the waiter Sonni was polite inventive without being intrusive I will be going back as soon as possible the price was great and standard high cant say enough about how lovely sonni was he deserves a bonus or pay rise as his service is one of the reasons cant wait to go back

This is a perfect spot - good food, cozy Tudor cottage-feel, non-expensive, and a good place for soakage before hitting the local pubs x

Favourite place to go for a Curry in Shoreham

The set menu is always worth it, lovely food.

Regular favourite. Great food May not be as "posh" as some restaurants but it's food is delicious lots of individual flavours and wide range of options. Plenty for veggies or veggie/fish people. Setting is a beautiful old building wood beams with low ceilings so watch your head. If order too much they will happily box what remains so can take home.

Slow service they forgot to serve half the table the starters the tandoori chicken had no tandoori Flavour was like it had been smoked in red food Coloring I asked for my curry yo be Medium hot and it had no heat to it won't be coming back again
