Ordered to collect. Told me to come and collect in 25mins. Arrived on time and waited another 40mins. Then they forgot a dish. No apologies or anything. You lost a customer!

We’ve been eating at the Calcutta 16 since it opened. The food has always been excellent and no idea why there’s negative reviews. We went a few weeks ago, food and service were great as always. We’ve even go on Christmas or Boxing Day when there’s a set menu (lots of choice) and it’s never a problem for them to accommodate our table of 10-12. The menu has the usual dishes as well as some fantastic chef’s specials, dishes we’ve never seen before. The Naga Revenge and Kurchan are family favourites!

We ordered on a Saturday evening at 6.20pm but our food didn't arrive until 8pm and when it did one of the dishes was completely wrong and all the dishes were luke warm. We phoned 3 times to chase and every time we were told we would definitely have it in 5 minutes. This wasn't true. We appreciate it was a busy night but what a waste of money.

Excellent ! We were greeted on a very wet day with a warm welcome for lunch on Saturday. We both asked for a lamb phall which was not on the menu and it was very tasty...and hot !! Very happy with the food, service and the price ! Many thanks!

Please don't order from Calcutra tonight as we have just had an awful meal. Definitely last night onion bhajis, food very cold and raita the worst thing I have ever seen. Good luck if you order from them. Our seagulls might be lucky or unlucky tonight. A very unhappy customer 😕

Sunday lunchtime, we were a family party of ten. The food was delicious, service absolutely excellent.

Takeaway dinner, just lovely 😍 Lots of choices and new dishes to try, we had a chicken kashmiri, which was very flavourful and fruity with lychees. Lamb methi and lamb chattinadu were superb 👌 Lots of different sides and starters. Recommend the special set menu deal.

There's nothing like a good Indian meal, but sadly this was nothing like a good Indian meal. The worst chicken jalfrezi I have ever had (and I've had a lot of them). Watery sauce that had a weak, weird taste and left an unpleasant after- taste, with undercooked onion and pepper. The bhindi bhaji was greasy, the rice not great. Sorry guys, but it's the truth.

Takeaway ,wanted delivery but unfortunately when trying to order online ,it said no delivery my area ,bit strange as only live 2 miles away . So ordered anyway for pick up . Food was very nice .Will use again

Have been going to Calcutta 16 for years for both takeaway and eat in. It used to be lovely, but at some point they’ve changed the chicken and the quality is awful. Now has a rubbery chewy texture. Please sort it out Calcutta we want to be able to come back!

As a massive foodie myself I love it when I discover a new gem of a place with such tasty food! Terrific service from the staff too, they made me and the family feel so welcome. I now have a new favourite in town and I shall be bringing along all of my close ones and friends regularly. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!!! Thank you again! 🙌🙏

Hidden Gem. This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend. I must say that this was the best Indian food I've had in a long time. This food is comparable to that of one of London's top restaurants. My current favourite.

Without doubt the best Indian restaurant in Shoreham and probably best Indian between Brighton and Worthing( I haven’t tried them all). Would never go anywhere else. They have also catered for a private function I attended and again the food was excellent.

By far the best Indian restaurant in Shoreham. Great service, nice ambience, friendly, and excellent food, made to order, spice level as requested. We eat here regularly, never disappointed.

I have rated this 5 stars because the food was very tasty and the staff were really helpful, efficient and very courteous, the only moans I have are that the entrance hall and toilet needs a bit more attention to cleaning and maybe needs a paint refresh they looked and felt grubby, no working hand dryer, dirty pedal bin, sink taps wobbling and not secure, door and floor dirty.

Never fails to impress, visited with two friends Saturday and as always felt we’d had the best food ever.

I ordered takeaway, yes they were busy but after waiting an hour to pickup and then getting it home only to find the Rogan Josh is just a plate of chicken and tomatoes, I could cook better than this. It doesn't even have the traditional authentic taste of an Indian dish, never again!!

For years now I have hoped for Indian tapas. Well now Calcutta 16 offer this very thing for lunch. Three choices of any curry from the main menu with bread and rice accompanying, and again the choice is yours. A great opportunity to sample smaller portioned dishes, at a reasonable cost, although still generous enough, with greater variety as a result. A resounding success, and long may this lovely restaurant continue the theme.

Eaten twice here recently whilst visiting my sister in law who, with my brother, is a frequent customer of Calcutta 16. The king prawn malabar, one of their specials, was my first meal then chicken madras on the second occasion. Both curries were absolutely delicious, the malabar a light spicy sauce with plumptious king prawns and the chicken madras, an old favourite of mine, was the best madras I’ve eaten in many years. The meat was succulent, no skin or gristle, breast meat I think, and the sauce was fiery without assaulting my palate, allowing all the flavours through. My sister in law always has the tandoori king prawns which I sampled, just for quality control you understand, and they are beautifully cooked too. We had a tasty sag aloo each time plus some naan bread, (neither of us are bothered about rice) and washed the food down with draught Cobra or a glass of wine. Always receive a warm welcome with service second to none. Am already looking forward to my next time there.

The food from here this evening was absolutely shocking. Cold ,bland,tasteless and toxic. I don't think I've felt this ill for a long time. I've been up pretty much every hour through the night with severe stomach pains and it's 5 am whilst I'm writing this review. I won't be eating here ever again 😕

Never been here before as it was recommended by a friend, came here for a family get together, very pleasant restaurant, the staff were friendly and helpful, the food was excellent, the only 1 thing that I would say would be the restaurant could do with a bit of a make over? Would I come back here, yes is the answer.

Amazing dinner last night. Went to celebrate my Dad’s birthday. Do try their chef’s special, had their south indian special fish. Staff are very friendly and the restaurant is clean.

Former ( note former), regular customer. They have clearly lost a Chef. Never seen quality of food drop off a cliff like it has here. Chicken Tikka Byrani ( finding the chicken was like the culinary version of ‘Where’s Wally.’) Prawn purée. It was a fishy sort of porridge in a dry bread. Gutted. Used to love this place

Best Indian around, started using this place after several disappointing meals from our local in Lancing. Wouldn't go anywhere else now, have almost weekly treat take away and they've never disappoint. Excellent value for money which has no impact on the quality, which is always outstanding. Can't recommend them enough - and do regularly!

Went out for a rare night out with my hubby last night. So pleased we chose to eat here. Delicious, fresh food (the veggie samosas and naan were the best I’ve ever eaten). Service was great - relaxed and friendly. Loved it 😊

Cancelled the order after it not arriving 2 hours 15 minutes after the initial order was placed.

Having been previously and enjoyed our meal, we were very disappointed this time. Our table wasn't ready when we arrived, although we were actually only a couple of minutes early and we were told it would be another 10 minutes. It was at least that, and due to the torrential rain we had no option but to hover in our group of 8 just inside the door which was unfortunately where our table was. The couple that were still occupying the table were extremely apologetic as were we, and ended up rushing their meal and leaving, so we could be seated, making us all feel really awkward. Initially we were served quickly and the staff were polite. But it went downhill fast. The food was bland in spite of the menus promise of taste sensations. And then we sat.... And waited. And waited. No offer of another round of drinks. No dessert menu or offer of teas or coffees. So we waited some more. The staff by this point were hanging out together by the kitchen and just chatting to each other. We couldn't attract their attention for ages. When they finally came and we asked for the bill, we also mentioned we were disappointed there was no desserts or hot drinks anymore, only to be told they had plenty of both. During the evening we didn't see anyone offered either so it came as a surprise to us, but at that point we were fed up with being ignored for at least an hour and felt the staff had generally been disinterested and therefore rude and we had no desire to spend any more of our money with them. Needless to say we won't ever be returning

Love the food here. Normally have a takeaway but, tonight we dined out. Good attentive staff, wonderful menu, very good portions of delicious food. Highly recommended. Thank you all at Calcutta 16

Went there Xmas eve. Great food excellent service as always.

Ordered over an hour and fifteen minutes ago having been told it would be 30/45 mins won’t be ordering again

The four of us chose different things from a special of a starter, main, side dish or bread, and rice. We all were thoroughly impressed. We really did our best but could not finish as portions very generous. My lamb was so tender. The spices were delightfully blended and the flavours really impressed. Certainly on my list for when I next go to Shoreham.

Fast friendly service. My chicken dansak was not hot enough. To bland for me. Rice and side dish was nice.

Family favourite, delicious takeaways.

Really nice meal overall, we had Biriyani, vindaloo, mushroom rice and mixed starter. All very good. The mint sauce was the best I’ve tasted! This place is very good overall and consistent! The one thing I’ve noticed with the other shoreham curry houses is that they’re so inconsistent and seem to be gradually getting worse! This one is the best for me. Not given 5 star as temperature wasn’t too hot but that is an easy fix, 10 mins in the oven at home.

Great meal...the best Indian we've had for a while

We use Calcutta 16 regularly for take aways and for for dining in. We love it. We always have great food, the service is good and friendly and the restaurant is comfortable. We like Indian food a lot and since moving into the area quickly decided Calcutta 16 was our favourite. Another reviewer suggested another restaurant around the corner was better, which has really shocked me. We also have visited that restaurant on more than one occasion and didn't have great experiences. At Calcutta they are so accommodating for your dietary needs too. They often will make meals Vegan and nut free friendly for us (as a complicated family of 7)!! This alone we feel is a rare thing. We have tried their sister restaurant in Worthing too which was also great but Shoreham is a bit more convenient for us so we always tend to opt for this one.

After looking at reviews we had high hopes for a different, exciting, more authentic taste of Indian food.It was nice to see the cooks through a window in the restaurant....that was a good sign.Spotless table cloths, cutlery, and nice music too.Sadly foodwise nothing made us sit up and lick our lips in delight.The poppadoms were fine but pickles had no punch, just raw onions, and didnt taste home made.Shashlick though a good portion, was spoilt by chicken, peppers, tomatoes and onions not being slightly charred as you would expect from a hot TandoorMy Jalfrezi was under spiced and lacked the spicy taste of ginger garlic cumin etcThe aubergine side dish was bland and tasteless.Perhaps a menu/vegetable supplier review would help and maybe the Chef could visit other restaurats to see what the competition are doing.

What a hidden gem this restaurant. After lockdown end me and my wife decided to going out for dinner together we see all the TripAdvisor review and plan to dine in here .we book a table for 2 at 7:30pm.when we arrived its Friday evening and its busy, the waiter comes and takes our drinks order and its arrived on time . Then our food order taken my wife order masala dosa and I order Chicken chatinadu curry along with sides . The food arrived I think 7-10 minutes delay then our expected time,but its Friday and we see they are busy,so its acceptable. But after having our food we can understand why its slightly delay what a quality Indian food it was .the best dosa we had outside India .So we highly recommended this place .Keep it up well done.

Fantastic takeaway last Thursday from Calcutta16! Ask for Chicken Chettinad, it s not in the menu but is a wonderful flavoured Curry from South India. My new favourite, can't wait for the restaurant to reopen.

Superb food and speedy delivery. Highly recommend you try them if you are in Shoreham. They have a proper tandoori oven and fresh ingredients. Wish you delivered beer too! :)

Top quality service, top quality food on every occassion, eaten in 3 times and take away last weekend was equally as good as when eating in. There is something special about this place and the food is amazing, some outstanding flavours and obvious top quality ingredients. Can't wait to eat in again but for now we await the next Dosa delivery

Just had a fabulous takeaway from Calcutta 16. Super tasty, arrived really quickly and all nice and hot. We had a tikka masala and a rogan josh with rice and naan. Sorry no photos as we got distracted by the tastiness of it all 😂 Really recommend 🤪

Worst possible service, waited 2 hours for a delivery which never arrived. Everytime I called I was told “it’s nearly ready” I will never be ordering from here again! Ended up cancelling

Tonight for our wedding anniversary we tried Calcutta 16. One word amazing I had the classic lamb korma and the lamb was just melt in your mouth full of flavour. And a cheese tikka nanna. My wife had the chicken biryani and she said it was delicious.She enjoyed it that much she wants to order again tomorrow night so she can have what I had after trying some of mine.Highly recommend Calcutta 16. The best indian takeaway in Shoreham By Sea.

Last night we ordered goan chicken and mix grills. The curry was flavorful and the garlic was robust but not overpowering. The grills was the best i ever had in a long time. It may look like your average neighborhood indian restuarant, but Calcutta 16 is anything but!

Highly recommend , great tasting food and service

We got takeout from here last night. We love a good Indian but this was a poor choice. The takeout was 2 hours late arriving, we phoned them to ask where it was and they left us on hold for 10-15 minutes. They had clearly forgotten we were on the phone. When the order eventually arrived, it had an item missing and when we phoned up they told us they'd give us compensation if we ordered from them again - which we won't be doing. We didn't get our money back for the missing item. Should have stuck to Indian Cottage rather than trying somewhere else. Don't be fooled by Calcutta 16's fancy website, the food was average and the service was terrible.

Our first time ordering takeaway from here and unfortunately was not a good one. The food took 2 hours to arrive when they said an hour, we phoned to ask where it was and the guy we spoke to was rude and frankly couldn't have cared less. He said the food would be another 15 minutes and it was another 45. When it arrived, they had forgotten poppadoms and the saag paneer had 1 tiny piece of paneer in. The meal was fine otherwise, nothing outstanding but did the job. We phoned the restaurant to ask about the poppadoms but they said it would be hours before they could delivery them as they were too busy so would give us a free bottle of wine next time we ordered. They should have offered some money back as safe to say we will never order from them again. It ruined what should have been a nice evening. Steer clear.

We had a takeaway nearly every Wednesday through the first lockdown - back again for our lockdown curry (visited when we weren’t in lockdown obviously). Absolutely fabulous & be back next week

Booked for 7pm on a Saturday evening and there was 5 of us in the group. Everything abut the restaurant is very good - service, food, nice staff - will defintely go back.

I was looking forward to eating here as I read reviews about them catering well for vegans. I decided to order four vegetable dishes to get a range of their food. I was quite disappointed, each dish was tasteless and bland - not really a hint of any spices. The channa massala (usually my favourite) was just chick peas in a creamy sweet sauce with red food colouring added - nothing authentic at all. About an hour after the meal I started feeling uncomfortable, this continued into the night with a gaseous bloating feeling that woke me up lots, culminating of a horrendous 'emergency rapid bowel evacuation' early this morning. I won't be visiting again, shame as it's a nice place and the service was very good (my other dining guests also said their food was bland, I haven't asked about any dreadful toilet events yet).

I have regular takeaway from calcutta 16 and am constantly amazed by the quality of food. Me and my partner had another fantastic meal, one vegan and one chicken,...... sooooo tasty. Looking forward to the next one x

Eat here a lot. Food is always good, cooked to order, perfectly spiced, tweaked as you like it. Service is great. Not hurried, not left waiting. Tables spaced to reflect current Covid situation. Clean and safe. Always a pleasure to eat out here.
