I’ve been before and was expecting good. I got what I expected. A thoroughly pleasant experience with a really lovely waitress. Very good service in a really nice country retreat. Impossible to fault.

We had the winter wine and dine offer arriving at 1:30. The food was at best ok but then for £20pp including a glass of wine we were not expecting Michelin std cuisine. What we did expect was something that was well presented and edible. The Black Forest gateau would have mopped up a lot a lot liquid it was so dry BUT worst was the attitude of the staff when this was pointed out ‘I’ll tell the chef...’ but no feed back and then when queried after asking for the bill being told they said ‘Chef Said that’s the way it is because it’s gluten free’ was not what was expected but worst after complaining and asking for a reduction to cover the dessert being told ‘that was not possible as it was a fixed price menu’ and the waitress now dealing with us ( the original one had “gone home” ) was again not a great example of customer service : note I was asking for the £3 extra charged for one of the mains to be taken off the total bill of £83 in compensation for the inedible dessert. After asking for the manager and being told ‘she was busy upstairs with 98 other guests’ by the young waitress eventually another young waiter did call someone who did indeed reduce our bill by the £3 requested. We had high hopes for our lunch but as an experience to be repeated i fear it would only happen by accident. Rarely have we had such a disappointing experience and I cannot but think ‘ I wonder if our experience explains why we were virtually the only people eating lunch ? I can only hope that others who go do not have the experience we did as the Chateau has many fond memories for us from past visits years ago and as I sit looking back at the many events I hosted there it makes my heart sink thinking about our experience today.

There were 4 of us (plus a baby) taking afternoon tea, on a table we had reserved for my mother in laws birthday, which was nicely decorated with table glitter. The drinks consisted of unlimited tea / coffee and we had a jug of water on the table. We were given a nice assortment of 5 sandwiches each, on tasty fresh bread (ham, smoked salmon, egg, cheese, cucumber), a large fruit scone (with jam & cream), and a pretty, and tasty assortment of cakes, all decorated with fresh strawberries. We worked our way up from the bottom tier, but were beaten after the scone, so we were provided with cake boxes to take the rest home with us. The service was good with the staff friendly and attentive. (our lovely waitress even asked if the baby wanted some fruit and brought a sliced up banana, which he really enjoyed). I agree with a previous review regarding the situation of the restaurant, especially for afternoon tea in such a spectacular looking venue, but everything was pleasant and clean. My rating is on the service and quality of the afternoon tea, and also the price as they are offering a 241 afternoon tea during January-February, but even without that offer it was worth the full price. We all agreed we would do it again, and my mother in law loved it. I very rarely give 5/5 as I am very fussy, so this 4/5 is a good score from me!

Romantic hotel set in rolling grounds with quite a collection of wildlife. Rooms in the Impney are unique and individual not so keen on the Annex part which is rather Basic. Bar downstairs has a good atmosphere and prices are as expected. Plenty of on site parking. Ideal for couples. Also appears to host various events from car shows to bridal events. Staff all very pleasant and rooms spotless

We had our Christmas do here again and were delighted by the improvements over the previous year. The food was excellent, delicious, well seasoned and attractively presented, swiftly, by attentive staff. The Christmas decorations were very tasteful, the music loud and we had a marvelous evening all round.

Tea was nice, service excellent but the venue was so disappointing. I had expected a hotel of such grandeur to serve afternoon tea in an equally grand room, but for me sitting in a room with no windows doesn’t fill that criteria. The restaurant was empty and we were sat right in the corner, looking at a wall, it was disappointing.

Reception welcome was excellent. Informed of forthcoming events, even next years Hillclimb which was of particular interest. Hotel room was fabulous, including the view. Bistro service was friendly and incredibly efficient. Staff were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. Food impeccable, and we love good quality so had not expected the standard to be so high. Rack of Lamb was awesome, full of flavour and tender. Breakfast the next morning again not a disappointment, perfect. Hope to visit again.

I booked table for 4 people at 1:00 pm for the 8 September 2019 for the Sunday Carvery in the Grand Ballroom at Chateau Impney by telephone on the 20 August 2019. We arrived at the Chateau Impney to find that there was a Wedding Planning Event on in the Ballroom and were directed downstairs to the Impney Restaurant and Bar a soulless basement with no windows. I was promptly advised that there was no table reservation for our party of four, not a good start. All of the tables were empty but we were grudgingly given a table in a corner by the entrance to the bar. Within minutes we were surrounded by people attending the wedding events queing for drinks not very nice when you are entertaining old friends to lunch. The table was not laid correctly the butter knives and knives for the starter were not on the table when this was pointed out to our waitress she was very rude and actually argued with me. The starters were okay but the Roast Meats, not a Carvery but served on plates with all the vegetables and gravy piled on the too small plates, was absolutely disgusting the meat was fatty the minute Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes bore a remarkable likeness to Aunt Bessie's frozen products the uniformity of size was a giveaway. The vegatables were overcooked and virtually mush and disgusting we all agreed this had to go down as probably the worst Sunday lunch we had ever had. This was not the Sunday Carvery in the Grand Ballroom that we had gone to Chateau Impney for very disappointing terrible food even worse service and a total waste of money. Do not go to this restaurant not worth your time or your money.

Booked a Traditional Afternoon Tea to celebrate my mother's 91st birthday as we had done the year previously when she was 90. A venue always enjoyed by my mother although service in the past has not always been attentive. How different this visit was. Although there had been a misunderstanding at the time of booking this was soon resolved by Pam who appeared to be in charge in the restaurant. Pam is a real asset to the Chateau - she was attentive, extremely efficient and treated my mother like a queen - she certainly made it a most memorable afternoon for my her and my sister and I. The tea was excellent value for money and if it could not all be eaten then a box was provided to take leftovers home. I would have liked to write to the management and compliment them on the service delivered by Pam but unfortunaltely could not find a contact on the Chateau Impney website.

Friday evening supper was not a pleasant experience. Although we had booked we stood for nearly 10 minutes before we were welcomed. The tables for two are very close together so having a private conversation was almost impossible, and the acoustics in the restaurant made it defeating and not at all relaxing. The service was very poor, we had to ask a total of three times for drinks/water we had ordered. Between main courses we waited nearly 25 minutes before someone came to ask us about dessert, then the bill was plonked on the table without being asked if we wanted coffee. The food was average st best. Perhaps we were unlucky but I would say a place to avoid for evening (cream teas on the terrace have been much better).

My first visit to the Chateau for many years. Dined here last night for their Celebration of Restoration menu. 2 x 2 course meals and a bottle of house wine for £39. Restaurant is very modern, but does not have a comfortable feel about the place, also it was very noisy. Good choice on the menu, but items way over priced. If it had not been for the offer, I would not have paid the prices being asked. Portion sizes mediocre. For a starter we had chicken wings, menu price £8.50. The dish consisted of 5 tiny pieces of very over over cooked wing portions (not full wings), a dip and some salad. I had steak & ale pudding for a main which was nice, but the accompanying 3 new roast potatoes and carrots had the appearance of being cooked a long time before serving. My partner had the salmon meal, which again was very small. House wine at £21.95 a bottle wasn't the best I've tried. Service was friendly, but a bit slap happy. All in all a disappointing visit to their newly refurbished restaurant. Can't see us returning.

My partner and I booked a meal in this beautiful and interesting building and we were both really looking forward to a great evening out. We were sadly disappointed. The restaurant was nothing like the beautiful surroundings we had anticipated, it could have been a travel lodge. The staff serving were friendly and helpful which was the best thing about the evening. The starter of prawn had little taste of anything, the main of cod fillet with rustic chips was similar. There was nothing fresh, it was all frozen food. The dessert of sticky toffee pud was Ok, and Ok was about the best we could muster. Quite disappointed, we left and when paying did say we were disappointed as though we don't often say we felt we should in this instance. The maitre 'd made us feel as though it was our problem, not particularly interested in what we had to say. Won't be going back.

I was looking forward to afternoon tea at the Chateau Impney for my birthday. I’d never been there before, but had long heard of its reputation as the perfect example of traditional English elegance, so when I walked in and was greeted by sumptuous panelled hall and stairway with colourful stained glass, I really thought that I was in for a treat. In fairness, the selection of home-made cakes were delicious, as was the warm scone with preserves and jam, but the selection of sandwiches was banal: egg, cheese and pickle, salmon and cream cheese, poor quality ham, cheese and cucumber, and the bread on some of them had gone dry, suggesting that they had been made some time since and had been left out. We were not offered a menu, but when I asked for Darjeeling tea – my favourite – the waitress had no idea what I meant, had never heard of it (kept calling it “darling” tea!) and brought me English Breakfast in a coffee pot, with no additional hot water. Moreover, rather than a refined experience, we were pushed into a corner of the busy main restaurant where carvery lunch was being served, and people were milling about.

What started with a lovely day with afternoon tea with friends and family for my friends 60th Birthday turned into a disastrous evening meal for my friend and myself, we had booked a room at the hotel also and booked a meal in the restaurant for 8 pm, on arriving at the restaurant at 7.45 we we shown to our table, we ordered drinks which took 20 minutes to arrive, then after an hour and 20 minutes our food arrived, my food was ok but my friends food was cold so she asked for it to be taken away and to receive a new one, which meant I had to eat my meal without my friend having hers, 20 minutes later her meal arrived, still not cooked, her chips were hard and meal was still cold, during all this going on people were complaint as to where there food was, one table of six were delivered one meal and 10 minutes later the other 5 still had not had food, so they got up and walked out, no one came to ask my friend if her second meal was ok and on paying the bill we complained about the food and service to be told we are sorry about that, but the attitude was you still have to pay the bill, no refund was offered and we paid the bill, but considering throughout the whole day over £500 was spent in afternoon tea, a room for the night and evening meal I was disgusted that no Management seemed to be available to deal with all the complaints in the restaurant that night in the Raven Suite, the only staff available was young ladies and men, who did not seem to know what to do about all the complaints, my friend and I were also going to book for breakfast next morning but decided against this due to the terrible experience from the night, we would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

The Chateau is an extremely beautiful looking hotel, expectations were high. We arrived at the bar ordered beer, tonic, one sweet sherry and one dry. "Erm we don't have sherry" after much looking a bottle was found it was put into a small sherry glass but filled right to the top so it slipped over. It was suggested I lean over and drink from the glass on the bar to get the level down. my husband asked for Tio Pepe a very dry sherry. The barman said "now you are having a laugh" an old bottle was found in the basement and a glass also filled to overflowing. I used a tissue to wipe the bases of the glasses as nothing was offered from the bar staff. We were shown inside the ballroom (beautiful) to our table. The waiter, when asked what the soup of the day was said " it sounds like Matilda" it was in fact Minestrone. Although the staff were friendly there was no finesse when lowering the plates on the the table, they were just plonked. The wine when it arrived was put on the table unopened, with no offer to pour. The food (a carvery) was well cooked, not a complaint there, but at £27 per head it was nothing exceptional. Pubs in Ombersley and surrounding areas are better. We did not stay for coffee etc. It was disappointing and sadly, we shall not be returning again. An hotel of this standard needs to up its game. Staff training for one should be obligatory.

I booked this restaurant expecting an environment and service to match the grandness of the hotel/Chateu for my husbands birthday this Saturday night. The tiled clinical stairs at the entrance take you down into a space reminiscent of a three star Spanish hotel, a small lobby area and a canteen style square room with no windows, this was the ‘restaurant’. We were told our table was reserved in the lounge area which was the small lobby/hallway area immediate outside by the lift and stairs. A table was pointed out with arm chairs and a table designed for drinks and not eating food from positioned coffee directly in front of the lift. We eventually chose a table in the canteen and after asking for the table wedged so it stopped wobbling, we ordered our food (good news we were told, my husband had secured the last Haddock his favourite). We had to subsequently chase the waitress to order our drinks and the sparkling water was flat and had to be returned. We had to request ice, and a reminder. Waitress then reappeared to say the one Haddock that they had left had been sold to someone else and he made do with curry (no fish at 7 pm !). Starters arrived which were tepid and mediocre. We waited for our mains which we could see plated up unattended. Waving at another waitrres again we pointed out if those were beef curry they were likely to be ours....they were bought over apologies as they had the wrong table number, that didn’t surprise me! We ate our Luke warm curry, paid our bill and could wait to leave. Total visit time 1 hour, I am so upset how let down I feel about my husbands birthday meal. Please NEVER consider this restaurant for any special occasions, we have had a truly disappointing poor experience which has ruined what should have been a much better quality (service and quality) celebration meal on the day of his birthday! The restaurant manager did ask before we left “everything alright with your meals “guys””, his brisk informal manner sums this canteen up. I did not stop to explain, please read this written from the comfort of my home!

Six of us had a mid week light lunch in the bar area of the Chateau to break our journey. Nice modern surroundings, clean and tidy. Stunning location. Very pleasant waitress, the food was enjoyable but the staff don't appear to be trained to the standards of days gone by at the Chateau, half orders, no milk served with the tea, no finger bowl with shell on prawns, long wait for food and particularly ling wait for tea and coffees. As this is our second visit in a month (previously went for Sunday lunch). On both occasions had noticeable lack of service (we are not demanding) so general conclusion of our party was that we would probably not go again, which is a shame, particularly because the food at Sunday lunch was delicious.

Had Sunday lunchtime carvery. Starters and deserts are served at table. Nice light dining room with views over parkland. Good table service. Food was very good and sufficient variety to suit all tastes. Asked for coffee to be served in lounge bar after the meal. This was disappointing and partly spoiled the day. Lounge bar seemed to be a thoroughfare for people coming into the hotel and up to bedrooms. Cleaners came through with mops and buckets. Beer had been spilt on the table which we had to ask to be wiped. Coffee came without mints which we also had to ask for. However, restaurant and food made up for it so we will visit again.

We chose this place as the sign on the A38 clearly states no booking required. However, 6 of us turned up and were told by staff that if we had not booked or were not a resident we could not have food. We explained that the website and the sign out side the hotel said no booking was required. We also explained one of our party was disabled so had stopped at the top of the stairs while we sorted this out. The manager arrived and said it was no problem just find a table on the terrace. We told the rest of our party and they came down the stairs. There is a stair lift for access to the bar area. However, there are then narrow steps up to the terrace, no stair lift or stair rail to hold. With difficulty we got to the terrace and found a table. We then realised the terrace is easily accessed from the car park to the front of the hotel. There are fewer steps, they are wider so more accessible.

Booked AfternoonTea at the Chateau Impney for a treat and a catch up with a friend. The building is beautiful, the room where it was served was ok. What a HUGE disappointment. The sandwiches were made with cheap white bread, sparsely filled, the scone was dry and the cakes were inedible and returned practically untouched and I was charged £19.95 for the pleasure. When I mentioned to a member of staff how disappointing the cakes were, I received an embarrassed looking shrug. I have to say the staff generally were pleasant and efficient. I tried to speak to the manager when I returned home only to be told that both the manager and assistant had gone home. I was given a generic email to contact, which I did. I received a call the next day by someone who was more concerned about the member of staff who served me rather than acknowledging how dreadful the food was ... And they still haven't come back to me - very disappointing.

The food is good quality and there is a fairly good choice. The service was a little slow, had to remind the waiter a few times that we wanted a jug of water on the table. There were a couple of private functions on there on the same night and we felt that maybe the staff were spread too thin for the amount of diners they had in. We also found the restaurant very cold, a couple of us had to put coats on to eat our food. Would we go back , yes but they do need to improve the table service and improve the restaurant temperature.

Afternoon tea quite pricey at £19.95 per head. Boxes are supplied to take uneaten cakes home. It looked very pretty but cakes were overly sweet and pastry tarts had soggy bottoms. Sandwiches were average. Warm scones were good. They may do better with better quality than quantity. Plenty of nice tea.Dinner was fine, we were a party of 14 and the food came out reasonably quickly. I think everyone was surprised at the dining room which resembled a canteen. Complete with vacuum cleaner in the corner. Very chilly everywhere. Service was quite haphazard and most requests seemed to be answered with " I will go and ask someone". The waitresses had little or no knowledge of what they were serving. The menu was quite varied and had good veggie option.

Visit the restaurant after receiving a voucher as a present for a special occasion. Prices are reasonable at £30 for 3 courses.A little disappointed that the restaurant is fairly modern and not a reflection of the beautiful Chateau. It felt relaxed but lacked a little atmosphere. It felt very much like a hotel restaurant and not a venue for a special occasion.Food was lovely and served quickly. Service was generally good but had to ask for a second bottle of wine 3 times. When it did arrive, it was the wrong wine! Not sure we would go again as it's a little far from home to justify the taxi cost, if wanting to drink.

This is a review of the restaurant, not the hotel, we visited tonite for a special meal, but were very disappointed, very average food, average service, and not interested in negative comments, and no attempt to make amends, over priced, batting way above their capabilities ! I would not recommend this restaurant, or visit again.

I expected the Dining Room to be packed after being told I couldn't have a 1pm slot for a table of 6. The receptionist only offering me the 12:30 slot.We arrived at noon, because we didn't want to be ushered to the table without having time to relax after our drive, ordered drinks from the friendly bar lady. 2 soft drinks, 2 G&T's and 2 pints = £27, which were good. The Bombay gin is the same price as the Gordon's, so please ensure you ask for the better gin, because it is not offered.Arriving early was not relaxing, the staff were obviously under pressure because they were cleaning and vacuuming the dining area, plus as we closed in on our 12:30 slot it became quite apparent that we (the 6 of us) were the only ones booked in on that time slot.Dining in a very large empty room/restaurant, with staff busy prepping the dining area around us while we ordered and later ate our starters was incredibly annoying, but not the staffs fault, just poor management because they are obviously not given enough time to perform their duties prior to guests arriving.A young waitress delivered our starters with a forceful and ear piercing drop of the plates on the table for the first 2 plates, then corrected it to a very slow and steady placing. The starters were fine, but the bread accompanying 3 of the meals was hard as rock (obviously reheated). The main course would have been more acceptable if the food was warmer than the plates it was presented on. The carrots were al dente and cooked as they should be, but the other vegetables were close to being raw, stringy and inedible. The lamb was awful and the staff did not think to ask if we required any sauces (mint sauce for the lamb or cranberry for the turkey). The stuffing was tasty, but the texture resembled a paste, gravy was good. The other waitress who served us the mains, handled the plates by hand and complained that they were hot, but saw no problem in handing that plate to one of the ladies in our group because she could not serve the centre of the table against the wall.As 1pm slot we originally wanted came and went, I couldn't understand why our request was declined, because only 2 other tables were used by the time we left at 2pm.The last time we visited the Chateau was 8 years ago for the Al La Carte dining experience. At that time it was the very best service complimented by the very best food and drink. This time it seemed rather pointless being well dressed as the few people who could be bothered to eat there, turned up in Jeans. Also the food was below a standard that many smaller pubs achieve these days and the surroundings with dead spiders adorning the floor in the bar and cobwebs on the walls and window, the bistro chair sets and cheap wall pictures all fused together to create a cold and clinical atmosphere.A 2 course menu was £19 and 3 course a little more, after 2 courses we simply couldn't wait to leave and 4 left the table instantly while we waited 15 minutes after asking for the Bill. Tips were optional and after the very poor service I felt that the tip should be a verbal one and not a monetary reward for making our experience of what should be the best restaurant in Worcestershire so poor. However, as we could be bothered to wait for the change for the £114.00 bill, they had a £6 tip.We visited several pubs that day to scout a new venue for our next sunday lunch venture, so after seeing the service and food at the Abberley Arms in Abberley and the Baiting House is Upper Sapey, we will be trying those soon. The reason why customers offer these reviews is not to stop others from visiting the restaurant/hotel/pub etc, it is to provide an accurate and honest feedback of their visit to the business so that if there were problems the managers can address any issues and ensure that it does not affect other customers experience. You should definitely try the Chateau and let us all know if things improve and we will happily try it again.

I wrote a poor review of a family meal at the Chateaux in June 2014. I returned in June 2016 as part of a school end of year celebration. While this was a large event and not fine dining, the staff were friendly and efficient, the food was tasty and well cooked and the venue perfect for our event. It was all reasonably priced. I would think that this venue would be excellent for a wedding especially as it has many rooms with a range of prices.

It must be 10 years since my previous dining experience at the Chateau Impney. In those days the restaurant was a little dark and dingy, but the food was good. 10 years on, and I expected a difference, but the changes were definitely for the worse. They call it a 'restaurant' but I call it a cafe. It is bright and clean but totally out of character with the rest of the 'chateau' and lacking atmosphere. A restaurant in such a building and location should have dining tables and tablecloths, not a small round table, next to the bar. After initial impressions failed to impress, the food was just as disappointing. My friend ordered a starter with Parma ham. It came with no ham. The main courses were equally uninspiring. Edible, but boring, just made from frozen ingredients - not hand-created. It will be at least another 10 years before I go back again.

Visited to attend the Wedding Fayre and went to the terrace bar/restaurant for afternoon tea. We had looked beforehand and it stated no booking was required and that it was served between 2.00pm and 5.00pm. We arrived at ten to two, expecting we may have to wait until after two to be served, to be told the wait would be half an hour for the chef to prepare this? Knowing you have a wedding fayre on site, I feel you should be prepared to expect increased customer numbers with such an event on site. I would also like to comment on the quality of the cakes we recieved, which I feel for the price and the location, were not to standard. I do belive these were shop bought and not made on site. If this is the case, these are not cakes I would expect to receive from a french chateau! Overall staff were very delightful and very pleasant and quick to keep our coffee flowing.

So we celebrated our wedding anniversary yesterday evening with drinks and a reservation and was really disappointed with the unfriendly, unprofessional nature of the bar staff. When I ordered a Bloody Mary and asked for a stirrer the response was a shrug, 'We've ran out you'll have to use a straw'. No sorry. And just the nature of this particular bar lady was not inviting. The waitress in charge yawned her head off most of the night (although seemed to disappear after our main course) but was slightly better. Even though there were more than enough waitresses, I ended up having to approach the bar several times for drinks because noone came over. And to top it off, one of the waitresses proceeded to mop the floor as though packing up for the evening whilst we were still eating! There was also another party dining at this point, around 10pm ish. The food was OK, expensive, as were the drinks: £5 for a Peroni. Whilst I don't begrudge the prices considering the venue, I do the poor service. Simply not good enough. Although we only live down the road, we will not be returning anytime soon.

We LOVED our meal here. The restaurant has a lovely feel. We were here on a sticky hot evening in June but because the restaurant is below ground level it felt cool and the decor and furnishings are really lovely. The young staff who served us were great ambassadors for the restaurant and for their generation. They were friendly, professional, efficiently and helpful. The food we ate was really top class. Not cheap but not expensive and fabulous quality. We ate 3 courses of superb food for £25 a head and it was super value. We look forward to eating here again soon.

Prawn and crayfish starter, followed by the most enjoyable fillet sirloin steak (cooked perfectly) chased down by a toffee and caramel cheesecake all washed away will water and red wine (just one glass as was driving). To be honest it was much much better than i was expecting and the lady who served us was great fun whilst still working hard..sadly cannot recall her name (began with an M) but she needs paying more and promotion.

Three of us went for afternoon tea in April 2016. It was a birthday treat so we went for the ambiance as much as the tea. We were in a downstairs basement area which has been modernised and was bright and airy but it gave gave no feeling of being in such a glorious old building. We were squashed around a rather small table. The sandwiches were not freshly made. Whilst the fillings were OK the bread was soft due to being chilled. We had one scone each which was nice but had been heated in a microwave and the clotted cream was hard to spread. We had three cakes each which were a total disappointment and tasted and looked like they came out of a packet. For £20 per person this was extortionate and we can get better quality in many places for half the price. There is plenty of competition nowadays for afternoon teas so save your money.

Four years since I was last here and the new owners have lifted the hotel back to its earlier quality with careful restoration and decoration. Our afternoon tea came with a tour and a talk. The 'Salt Baron' who built it was a fascinating, local, self made man who never forgot his origins and gave back generously. The accompanying afternoon tea was sumptuous, and GF for us too! A real treat. The waiting staff were smart, efficient and friendly which made for a lovely atmosphere. Well worth coming again.

Invited to a family wedding at the Chateau, we really were looking forward to the event having heard about the recent change of ownership and its refurbishment. The Chateau itself is a spectacular looking building that oozes character and charm, set in extensive grounds that form part of a much larger and far more modern hotel/event complex. The reception was held in the old dining room, with access to an adjacent ante-room, bar and terrace. Everything about the event and venue was first class. The dining room itself is a grand space and seems perfect for weddings. The food served was fantastic, being well balanced, packed full of flavour and taste. The service on the day was also excellent - the waiting staff being quite a young group, but clearly well trained and managed.Plus, with the benefit of gorgeous sunny weather on the day, we really were able to make the most of the terrace and the views over the recently improved grounds - fantastic day, fantastic venue.

It was some years since we had visited the Chateau Impney. We chose the Impney for a celebratory lunch on a Saturday. The Hotel's setting is beautiful and very impressive as you approach. On arrival, Reception directed us downstairs to the newly refurbished Impney Restaurant, which is open plan, slick and contemporary. It is very bright and airy, though quite cold, due to the door to the terrace being propped open.We were offered a choice of tables, all rather small and round, for our party of four. There was only one other table booked. It was disappointing to see that there were no tablecloths! We chose from the set menu - varied starters and 4 steaks. The starters were good. Our steaks then arrived - they looked poor and were almost impossible to cut and difficult to chew. Our daughter sent hers back for being over done despite having ordered medium. Her replacement stake was a bit better. When the waitress noticed that we all left a fair amount of our meal, she offered us complementary deserts. It was a shame really, as we will never return and the staff were lovely.

We used to visit the restaurant in the hotel a few years ago and it was classy. We booked a table in the new restaurant for 4 people and ended up on a small round table which is an ideal size for 2!!! in a room that has no atmosphere. It was a few days before Christmas but there were no decorations of any note. The 2 or 3 course set menu was varied but 3 of us ordered turkey which turned out to be a big mistake. It was dry and tough to eat. The service was just about ok, but nowhere near as good as it should have been for the standard of the hotel. We will never go to this restaurant again.

Having noticed the sign outside that gave a set price for a 2 or 3 course lunch decided to give it a try.As you drive up you can't help but be impressed by the setting and the Chateau itself but as you head to the car park you see the various add on buildings/conference suites etc which tend to spoil the effect somewhat. As to the meal itself this was very good - had the 3 course and as the visit was in December we had the Festive menu (slightly more expensive £23 rather than £20 for 3 courses). All the food was hot and very well presented and there was no rush in between courses. Would certainly recommend for lunch.

Booked a table with my wife Glenys to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary. It was a great disappointment. A few things came as surprise especially the very bright lighting which may be a matter of taste but for us it was a bad start for what we hoped would be a romantic evening. The real disaster came with Glenys's starter when she nearly chocked on a strip of plastic that had fallen off a container which was in her soup. We where amazed and complained immediately. The staff and manager where very apologetic and as you would expect deducted the cost of the started and a glass of wine off our final bill. But the damage was done. The rest of the meal was reasonable although this episode had left a shadow hanging over it. My rib eye was pleasant but the chips where far too salty. In this health conscious age you would think that salt use would be contained a bit. The staff where very helpful but nothing can take away from the damage caused by the piece of plastic which you wouldn't expect to happen in a greasy dinner never mind what appertains to be a fine eating venue. All round the approach to the Chateau is excellent as is the building itself bit the general ambience is of a place where upper class sales people stop and dine. Never again.

My husband and I were staying at the Impney Chateau for a return visit. The previous stay we had eaten out and only sampled their buffet breakfast ( which surprisingly enough was excellent for this kind of service - I prefer cooked to order). So this time we decided to sample exactly what the Impney had to offer. When we arrived we had a light lunch of sandwiches, crisps and salad. I ordered a prawn baguette and my husband had steak and horseradish bloomer. When they arrived mine was bloomer bread instead of a baguette. They were very apologetic and immediately hurried to redo the order. I said it didn't matter but they would have none of it. Even the bar manager came over and apologised, explaining they were prepared to order and so would be a small delay. (to be honest in some places I would have expected them to just scrape it into a baguette, but I really didn't get the impression that that was what they had done.) Cracking value too at only £6Later that evening we enjoyed our return visit very much. As it was a Sunday evening the usual a la carte menu was not available instead was a set menu for £19 for 2 courses. Amazing value! There were around 3 to 4 choices for each course. I can't recall what we had for starters but I do remember being very impressed. For mains, my husband had the beef dinner and I the lamb both came with delicious vegetables, new potatoes and yorkshire pudding.Breakfast the next day as I said was a buffet. Very good choice of cereals and dried fruit to make your own museli. The cooked station did not have fried eggs (maybe because they can get a bit rubberry in the bain maries), instead was scrambled eggs which were a tad watery. Still a good breakfast though. Before leaving that day we also had the Afternoon High Tea (£17 per person). Very fresh sandwiches - 3 each, as well as lots of cakes and a beautifully warm scone with lots of fresh cream and jam. We struggled to finish as it was a bit of a sugar overload for us, but if you have a sweet tooth you will love this - highly recommended. So, after sampling 4 different meals at the Impney, I think I'm qualified to leave a fair an accurate review of the food here........excellent!

Chateau Impney, a magnificent building in mind-blowing grounds, is under new ownership, so I thought I would give the restaurant a try for a business meeting. I had not visited the Chateau Impney for a number of years, despite living nearby, as it had gotten really quite bad -- badly in need of refurbishment, poor service. The new owners have clearly been working hard to improve the facilities and the grounds. There has been quite a bit of restoration work. The restaurant has been moved from the main level to a lower level. The old restaurant was a grand sort of place, but totally worn out. I had thought we would be dining in that area -- refurbished. Instead, we found the restaurant and bar on the lower level. It appears that the new restaurant will eventually be the breakfast room. The decor is not up to dining room standards -- small, inexpensive tables of a style inconsistent with fine dining, Hopefully they are restoring the original dining room (the staff had no idea), and the lower level will be the breakfast facility. The food was not bad, not great. It was institutional food, I think of the pre-packaged sort. I do not think a chef was actually creating the dishes. This sort of food is fine in a middle grade restaurant. I had hoped for better at Chateau Impney. The worst aspect of our visit was the service -- uncaring staff who treated guests as a bother. The place was almost empty when we arrived. The receptionist asked if we had booked. When I said no, she said "if you want to eat here, there is a 30 minute wait for the food." Wow -- not the way to greet a group looking to spend money! I almost turned around to go elsewhere -- but I carried on to see what would happen. We were directed to the bar and told menus would be brought to us at the bar while a table was prepared. Menus never materialized, and neither did the staff. I eventually had to remind someone we were hoping to dine that evening! We were then seated, handed menus and then left alone. I had to attract attention to order! The food came in about 15 minutes -- not the 30 minutes that almost frightened us away. As I said at the outset, the food was OK -- but the uncaring, lethargic service killed the atmosphere.Hopefully the new owners will come to grips with the situation and turn this into the first class restaurant that should be in this beautiful hotel. Hopefully the place we dined will just be the breakfast room and the original dining room will be brought back to its old grandeur. And, hopefully, the new owners will hire far better staff. We could use a really first class restaurant in Droitwich. This should be the place.

The historic aspect of this hotel is very special. It has charming areas of the lobby to sit and relax. We had some room issues and the maintenance staff was prompt and very accommodating. However, the service in the bar and restaurant for tea and dinner were disappointing and not at all what I expect from a 4star venue. The breakfast waitresses were very kind and did a good job, but the afternoon and evening team could use some training. All the employees wear their street clothes, so it is difficult to tell the difference between guests and staff. With all the awards Lygon Arms received, I was expecting so much more.

We had a lovely night away in this beautiful hotel, with an extremely comfortable bed in a room in the main house. We had drinks in the bar before exploring the gorgeous gardens and meeting Charlie the kitten amongst the roses. Our evening meal was wonderful. We were offered complimentary Prosecco each (it was our fortieth wedding anniversary) and we started with homemade sourdough and pate which was delicious. For the mains, I chose the lamb which fell apart under my fork and my husband chose the chicken which was moist and delicious. Breakfast was equally fabulous, with a choice of cereals/juices/toast and we had the full English - one with poached egg and one with scrambled - all cooked to perfection. Great place, great food, great service from lovely, helpful and smiley staff - we will return…
