A splendid town centre pub. Two ales on tap which were well kept. Staff and locals friendly. A separate eating area is available in the opposite bar.

First time visit to The Plume. Not to be repeated I’m afraid. The food was incredibly disappointing. Where did they source those dreadful prawns for the starter ! Like little bits of rubber. Salmon overcooked. A very scrappy roast beef main . At no time did a member of staff check that all was well with our meals. It was most definitely a disappointing experience.

On a wonder around Hungerford we decided to stop for lunch. What a great find! Very friendly staff, excellent customer service. Great choice of menu , specials board , and sandwiches available. Nice beer and wine. Food was served to a high standard, and all our meals were beautifully cooked. Definitely recommend stopping here and we will return. Looks like a good local too!

We stopped here for lunch before having a walk around the town and canal. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and it's dog friendly. It's a pub of two halves - one side for drinking, playing pool and watching the TV and the other half for dining. My husband had the gammon and I had the rump steak which was cooked to perfection. Both came with a fried egg which was also cooked perfectly - I hate runny egg white - but there was none to be seen. We both agreed that we could easily eat our meals again as they were so, so good. We would definitely recommend this pub and look forward to visiting Hungerford again.

Met a good friend here half way between out homes. Had a great 2 hours dog walk then needed somewhere dog-friendly to eat. Despite the Plume being extremely well decorated etc, they welcome dogs! Came for lunch on a windy cold day and was immedialy made welcome by the staff. The good impression was continued by the friendly, efficient service and the quality of the food which was clearly cooked to order - Tapas type food which suited us well. Just what a pub should be. We would certainly return - an ideal place to show foreigners what English pubs are all about! We gathered that the place had been renovated a couple of years ago, so bear this in mind if you knew it in the past.

We dropped in for an early evening meal the first week after lockdown so we had to sit outside. The menu was scaled down and it wasn't very warm despite the blanket being offered to my wife. Service was attentive and quality of food was ok. Unfortunately as all the punters were outside there was no distinction between bar drinkers and lounge diners. So we were subjected to heavy and loud swearing from the gentlemen enjoying a post-work pint. Good job the kids weren't with us.

This is a great historic pub right on Hungerford High Street. The bar staff are very welcoming and friendly and service in the restaurant area is excellent. The menu is a combination of traditional pub food and a specialism in tapas and is of very good quality with huge portions. There are a couple of real ales on the bar and an extensive wine list in the restaurant. Efficient Covid secure measures are implemented throughout.

Hungerford was missing a 'local' for us until The Plume was re-established. It is now our firm favourite - both for a friendly chat and a drink with regulars and strangers on an evening or for tapas for a date night. A warm welcome is guaranteed from Fluey and Diggy. Visited the Plume as I was on the understanding it had had a facelift. There really was not much change apart from new menus some new signs and a bright yellow paint on the walls. We ordered the fish & chips £13.95 each. The service was good the food I will give 4/10. Basically the oil that the fish was cooked in clearly needed changing and the peas had been reheated and the chips where cold and soggy as they had placed a soggy piece of fish on top of them. I will not be eating their again but I would still pop in for a pint.

We are locals and very sad that this pub has declined so much. It was a lovely pub when it was The Plume of Feathers, great food, atmosphere & clean. Now it is dedicated to the horse racing community, horse racing on the TVs (if you close your eyes you could be in a bookies) and the bad language is inexcusable. The restaurant is usually empty, the place is soulless. Go elsewhere in the High St if you are visiting Hungerford. This place just feels rough now and no good for families or couples.

Very accommodating with my parents and two dogs. Typical British pub/restaurant. It is a sports bar (predominantly horse racing) but this is mostly on the “saloon” side of the bar. The staff were saying that they may partition the restaurant off in the near future. It was somewhat quiet for a Saturday night (apparently engineering works on the train main line is affecting trade in town) Please don’t let the laminated menus put you off, the food was of excellent quality. The soup of the day was superb and even enticed my mother to order after she tasted mine! Pie of the day was delicious, well crafted with a thin pastry casing coupled with a succulent and meaty filling. This is the first time I’ve been able to eat the whole pastry case in many, many years! Pleasantly surprised as slightly worried due to the quietness of the restaurant, friendly and welcoming staff.

We walked in on a Sunday lunchtime at 1.00pm after rummaging through the nearby antique shops. We wanted a simple Sunday roast with trimmings. Unfortunately, we waited nearly 40 minutes and watched another couple walk out in disgust. The roast beef was still alive and had to be retuned for a quick microwave. The Yorkshire was cold and dry having been cooked much earlier in the day. The roast potatoes had suffered a similar fate. And for this we were asked to pay over £15 each. Never again.

It was Christmas Eve and having just come of a cruise of The Kennet and Avon canal, needed a quick meal before returning to our hotel. Several places were closed so we entered The Hungerford Arms to see what was on offer. Firstly we had a very friendly greeting from two 'barmen' and were settled on a table on one side of the bar. The other being the public bar and well attended. As we only wanted a quick snack we settled for the Leek and potato soup. A few minutes later it arrived, piping hot with toast. It was delicious! The bill was brought to the table accompanied by mints-what service -and with a smile. Next to the public bar was a rest area with very comfortable looking easy chairs. Unfortunately no time to sample these and have a comfortable drink, but next time we are in the area we will give the restaurant a longer visit!

Visited this establishment with friends for a mid-week lunch and initially we were concerned as it was 'awfully quiet' (not a good sign) but we were pleasantly surprised as the food was really very good and it was good value-for-money. On this basis, I can only recommend. However, the environment internally and externally is 'dowdy' - the garden/courtyard areas are dreadful - wholly uninviting (and quite off-putting). In better weather, diners often prefer an outdoor environment but they wouldn't sit outside here!!With limited investment - new tables/chairs, some large brightly coloured pot-plants etc., the external environment could be made more inviting and encourage more summer use.Internally, although 'clean and fresh' is dark and dismal.....again, the introduction of some inexpensive decor (bright colours) could make a HUGE difference.Despite this - the food, as previously said, is very good so don't be put-off the book by its cover!!

After our last visit (Sept 2016) we have avoided the Hungerford Arms - despite the food being pretty good then it was let down by poor customer service. So 9 months on we thought it was time to try again. Our meals were excellent this time and there does now seem to be an improved attitude being shown to customer service so thank you for that.Last time I mentioned in my review the strange website link on TA to a shoe retailer - I see this hasn't been corrected. Also the website that you are apparently "working hard on" is still just a single dull page and your Facebook page hasn't had an update since November last year. Maybe if you attended to some or all of these you might have a few more tables occupied and build a more lively atmosphere in the restaurant side to compete with the racing bar opposite.

Called here this afternoon and ordered cooked meals. The fish and chips was good, but I ordered the beef stew and was initially served fish stew. This was changed for the correct order and once the dish came it was good. The staff seemed to be more interested in the horse racing on the television and appeared not to listen to customers. My partner ordered our meals and specified the beef stew with mash off the specials board. There should have been no mistake as I clearly heard what he ordered. Similarly a young woman came in and asked if she'd left her coat, the bar man poured her a lemonade and a coke! His attention was on the televised racing, rather than his customers' requests. Perhaps a good case for management to play a closer role.

Very disappointing! We visited the Hungerford Arms on a Saturday evening . I was surprised to see only one other table was taken On a Saturday night!!! I now know why. We ordered bread and olives to start for the table, the bread disintegrated when you picked it up it was that stale .The Olive Oil and balsamic vinegar had a very unsavoury taste and I put that down to it being A lower cost product . The starters and the main courses were poor to unremarkable! One of our table did have the burger and said that was nice ! The desert was laughable , shop bought meringues, shop bought fudge brownie topped off with squirted cream !! I feel insulted that places like this think they get away with it, and have the audacity to charge over the top prices for low quality food . The reason I gave it two was the waitress was very friendly and helpful .

Our only regret was that the two squashy sofas were taken when we arrived. Not a problem. We found a radiator next to a hot radiator and had a very welcoming lunch.

I have been here several times since it has been under new ownership as The Hungerford Arms.I love the menu here which is updated regularly, although small the menu offers a good variety suitable for most. The Hungerford Arms is one of the more pricier eateries in Hungerford but I do feel it is worth the money as the food is always of exceptional quality. The staff have always been very friendly and welcoming and I would highly recommend!Dogs are also welcome here in the bar area which is also a nice quality.

We dropped in en route to our meal to sample the beers. Only three on and their special brew still named the Plume beer. We tried two beers and had a half of Peaky Blinder. This one smelled like vinegar and I pushed it back to the girl serving and said it was off. She ignored me and went off to serve another customer.

Came for lunch. Ran out of coleslaw which was 1/3rd of our lunch. No offer of alternative either. Burgers were cold and they also forgot our drinks. Wouldn't recommend.

Christmas shopping in Hungerford lady in shop next door recommended, really busy got the last table for lunch. Even though staff rushed off their feet they were attentive and happy ! I was told there would be a little wait for food but it was packed. When food arrived it was excellent good quality ingredients used. Just had the house wine but it was very good. Will visit again next time in Hungerford.

We had a very pleasant window table for a party of six. Staff were friendly and efficient. Typical pub meals-e.g. fish and chips, ham egg and chips.

Early evening meal, checked with the young barman working that the advertised "Crispy belly pork" was actually belly pork and was available. He replied yes and we were served 3 quite dry pieces of griddled pork loin and when I questioned him he told me that was slices of belly pork, hardly!! He did not appear again, when we left the pub at 7.45pm it was empty!

Have been a few times and it’s been nice but today it seems the owner was around for the first time that I’ve seen him. His attitude was something I can’t explain, rude to say the least! Comes across very intimidating and only seems to favour his regulars… after speaking to other regulars they all said he’s not been around for a while and that he likes to push his weight around when he’s on site. Definitely will not be going again. Shame really….. typical Irish

Excellent service from a very enthusiastic young man. Unfortunately several dishes were not up to the usual standard. The pork rib eye and beef feather were very good and presented well. The tandoori prawns on Naan bread were a poor substitute for the old garlic prawns and more reminiscent of a TV dinner. The chicken schnitzel presentation was poor. It came without the coronation mayonnaise and there could be more imagination with the salad which was just little gem cut up. Flavour, however, was good. The hot drink with small pudding was a winner as usual and delicious.
