I visited the Crown with family and friends although I didn't eat I was told that the food was nice, the staff were really friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was really good so personally I would definitely recommend.

Stopped at the pub for a drink after going for a walk. The staff were very friendly. Plenty of beer, wine and spirit choices. Wonderfully big garden with plenty of shaded area if needed If in the area again will try to pop in for food next time.

Enjoyed my food at this place, well worth a visit if you are in the area and looking for somewhere to dine

Historic public house. Butch as pubs come. Welcome to everyone though. Good vibe and always warm in the winter. Decent tunes and well used darts area. Smoking quarters and substantial car parking, sense of humour too, there's a tented (non smoking) outdoor area for polite summer meet ups. Good Guinness and ordinary prices. The village would certainly be poorer without it.

Popped in for a Guinness and seemed a popular pub. Nice pint of Guinness shame I couldn't spend a bit longer in there.

Cozy little place, beer was good. Seven of us went and nobody had any issues with their orders.

Rating this pub based on how amazing the staff were, to give our friends an incredible experience for their wedding reception last September. They were let down by another pub and The Crown stepped in at only 1 week's notice. They produced wonderful food and helped us plan and decorate the garden and decking area. Everything was perfect. Thank you so much!

We went there for lunch. The food was tasty and the staff were polite.

Closed when we got there but soon opened and the barman was thrilled to see us and was very welcoming! Lovely start to the day.

Clive at The Crown stepped in and organised our wedding reception, a week before the wedding( when our previous venue let us down). He and the team were amazing, they couldn’t do enough for us and we are so grateful. The venue has a lovely outside area with a tipi and festoon lighting. The band they recommended were wonderful, food was great, plentiful and catered extremely well to veggies, gluten-free and even an onion free. We had a perfect day, thank you all for doing so much to make our special day, even more special.

A friendly local, with a mix of cask ales and keg lagers. The Otter Ale was in condition and the staff were very friendly.

Our friends held their wedding event here yesterday and it really was a great place, lovely decking canopy area and garden, excellent grub and such attentive conscientious hard working staff. Well done guys thumbs up from many of us.

Wonderful what they have done with the refurb, however, it's gown from Theale's most affordable to most expensive pub. Many of the regulars no longer drink there. Good beers and staff.

Good old fashioned village pub, plenty of free parking, outdoor seated space undercover with heaters, cosy interior and plenty of selection at the bar. We visited with a few friends this week and the bar staff were quick and efficient and the 23:30 closing time was made aware in a friendly way.

At the Crown at Theale I exchanged money for food and alcholic beverages and I enjoyed both the food and the alcoholic beverages very much

Had a fantastic time with friends sitting outside under the stretched canopy - like sitting indoors. Currently table service due to the pandemic, but such brilliant service from the waiters and waitresses. Orders are taken on PDAs and processed at the bar. Great selection of ales and lagers, great ambience, didn't try the food but will be back. Refurbished throughout and as always Mark and his team were fantastic. Totally recommend.

Really friendly people and staff. Nice selection of bitters and lagers. I had an 'old rosie', it tasted beautiful and was full bodied. The proprietor was named, Tom who was both friendly and informative. It was truly a very pleasant experience and atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

Food was good, but service was slow. Kitchen struggled with only a few meals to process.

Great place to go now the new staff and landlord are there. Thank God for a NO drama atmosphere once again. Update. August 2019. Returning to the Crown for a nice quiet drink only to find yet another landlord has taken over obviously from Newcastle as there is a large in your face Newcastle United plate behind the bar! Cigarette ends in the gutter at front of pub ? Please tell me this is a one off? Not sure I'll return. Shame really.

Popped into the crown, was absolutely starving and ordered chill nachos... Wow they were amazing. Very tasty, came with salsa, sour cream and the portion size was massive. Great value for money, great staff, great service and a lovely welcome. Grata variety on the menu and the land lady Mel was so accommodating. Will defo be visiting again and can highly recommend the chilli nachos!!

Often visit in lunch hours as short walk from work, very friendly staff and decent prices for a nice lunch.

Alllfull beer staff not very helpful won't be going there again

A small pub, fairly empty (at least on a Friday lunchtime), making it a quiet lunch stop. Menu not the most varied but serves expected staples like burgers, jacked potatoes and such. Chilli con Carne was spicy and served in good amount.

Went into this pub before Christmas, bought a sandwich for my friend, it tasted a bit odd to her. I ate it and felt the same. The chef from this pub, it transpired later, had sprayed multi surface cleaner into the sandwich when he made it. The response of the management initially showed promise, but I have never really received any satisfactory response to my issues. I now have the chef sending me abusive messages. Time to notify the Police about the attempt to poison me, and Environmental Health about the lack of safety in the food preparation areas. Crown Inn, you had the chance to put it right - you failed.

Always been a good proper pub but such ashame that they no longer do any decent cider and are charging £4.50 for Strongbow.

Delightful pub with quant and clean outside deck and beer garden.New management starring mid- October 2018.Apparantly BBQ's and Hog Roasts on sport Saturdays coming up for the winter season with new menu and open for functions.

They have new people there running it . It is still a very good pub with real ales and all sports channels but the food side is very ,very limited.

The pub had really nice outdoor seating, perfect for a pheasant summer afternoon's meal. I had the chicken Caesar salad and enjoyed it. Two of my colleagues had a very large, double-pattied burger. One of them took the top patty off and claimed he now had a burger and a steak, both at a decent size. The burgers were good, as well. All in all, a nice pub.

I always get the cheesey chilli chips.

I would highly recommend you do NOT go to this pub. Staff are disrespected by 1 manager in particular. Customers do not get apologies when things go wrong. Kitchen staff were paid well under minimum wage.

This is one of the worst pubs I have ever went to let alone worked in. I'm there latest chef. Call it slave labour if you want. Was working for way under minimum wage. Staff are expected just to work for no decent outcome. Anyone looking to go there, food and drink is over priced and existing staff are rude to he max. Going down hill now as no one wants to work for nothing no more

Went to the crown today for lunch, was very disappointed with the service we had to wait 40 minutes to get a burger and chips. No sorry or anything, had good experience at this pub in the past, but after today not going back.

Food is some of the best I've ever had from a pub. But unfortunately they only seem to offer it on a Friday afternoon when it's busy and they are all over the place!

Brilliant pub with a good selection of drinks, good mix of pop music and music was the right volume.

Nice simple old school pub, polite staff and good food

First experience of a pub in Theale and it made a good impression. Pleasant rustic olde worlde feel to the place made for an enjoyable visit, but most importantly the real ale available was clearly well-kept and well-served. Didn't sample the food myself but others seemed satisfied with their choices. All in all, a nice Berkshire pub. A return visit highly likely and may see if this warrants a 5 star rating.

Not been for a few weeks but food always good if occasionally a little hard to find a table.

Not a good place to go since the current owners took over. The service is poor and they let a lot of unsavoury people in, doing things they shouldn't be.

Don't normally take the time to write reviews but felt the need after a visit to The Crown on Friday with the family. What a fantastic pub with a great atmosphere ! We all Loved the food, obviously they must have a great chief. Also very friendly staff (lovely waitress) They had a great selection of beers/ciders as, Enjoyed the 'Old Rosie' ! will be going back again, A good old well run British Pub ! The Hugill's
