We stayed at The River Camp at The Hub with a group of 11 mums and 17 children this weekend and had the most amazing time. The camp itself is absolutely stunning, located next to the river and surrounded by fields with a direct view of Bodiam Castle. The children (aged from 3 to 11) spent the weekend swimming, paddle boarding, playing football for hours, exploring the woods and bbqing, it really was idyllic. The huge communal table under a covered area with a large bbq was brilliant as were our own showers and loos, it felt like everything had been thought of. We also visited the cafe at The Hub for breakfast on the morning of our departure, and despite being busy, all of our meals came really quickly, were made with quality produce and well presented, mine was the best breakfast I’ve had in a long time. The whole party agreed that this is the best campsite we’ve been to so far and we can’t wait to return.

Was really looking forward eating here ( on the back of watching the hotel inspector) The food was a big disappointment. Poached eggs were hard boiled and toast loaded with too much spinach which made a complete soggy mess. The cooked breakfast was lukewarm and tasteless. Good coffee.

We came across this lovely place while walking the Bodiam 5 mile circular route. The directions didn't mention it so it was a welcome surprise. We had perfect cappuccino, coffee n walnut cake which was dairy free but totally delicious and a fresh home made flapjack. Staff were welcoming, lovely atmosphere, lots of shade and in door seating if needed. Coffee n cake done well is aways a bonus.

I visited the Hub several times last summer for meet ups with friends and found it to be friendly and chilled even when busy. Today was my first visit since last year and something has definitely changed. The staff are still very friendly and kind and helpful, but they seemed quite overwhelmed and were very busy. The menu is foody and not overly simple food which is fine but then it has the price tag associated. We waited quite a long time for our food (over half an hour for a sausage roll) but it was nice; didn't feel like a lot of food for the money, but maybe that's me having a wrong impression of value for money. My main concern was the flies inside the cafe. While I was waiting for my tea, there were several plates of cakes etc waiting for their coffees to join them before they were taken outside. And there were flies all over them. This really is horrid and they need to sort this aspect out asap. A combination of being a farm plus doors open for ventilation I imagine, but gross. Surely they should prep the drinks first then put the cakes on last..?Due to the rain we've had, the sandpit is muddy and wet in places which is fine but we weren't quite prepared for it! So puddlesuits and wellies required.

In the end we made a sound decision to have a light meal (beef hash) which was very tasty and, I would say, good value for money. By way of, hopefully, constructive feedback I would add that - despite the young lady that served us being excellent all round - in my opinion the staff did not seem to be particularly well led/organised with, perhaps, too much 'chatting' going on and not enough attention to the tables and the customers. Would also have been nice to see the cakes covered and not subject to fly and wasp attack. Nevertheless The Hub is in a delightful setting and I do feel it is worthy of a try - I would return again.

Beautiful location but food and handling of complaint very poor. 1 ploughman’s (items served different to those advertised ), 1 veggie platter ( very poor produce ) , and two dry and paper flat paninis and one drink each, (1 being a Smoothy), £46.00. The Hub is in a fantastic spot and is a great addition, in theory, to the very good Original Hut Company. However, the service is so slow and, on this occasion, the food was poor. Understaffing means that often one person is taking orders and dealing with serving, so if there are a few people in front of you, you have to wait until the member of staff has taken that order, made that orders drinks, served it to them and only then will they take your order, and the whole process starts again. The food was also poor and slow to arrive - eggs benedict (not cheap at £8.25) was served on an un-toasted (therefore soggy) muffin, cold, hard, poached grey eggs, and cold hollandaise sauce, then scattered bizarrely in chilli flakes (not what you really want at breakfast time). A real shame as it could be so much better.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

I had stopped visiting The Hub as each time we had been the service had been appalling, with a very long wait for such a simple menu. I revisited with a friend for, what was meant to be, a quick lunch. Our food took over half an hour to arrive, and then it was in dribs and drabs. The table next to us, had ordered before us and were still waiting for their food. It is safe to say they were not best pleased. The ham on the children’s mezze didn’t seem cooked all the way through, the dressing on the salad was far too sharp, and had rather unappetising lumps of raw fennel throughout. We weren’t asked how our food was at any point, and I didn’t want to complain on this occasion, so as not to offend my companion. It was also shocking and disappointing to hear all the staff complaining about the table next to us, after they had left. Not very professional, especially when it was the service in the wrong, not the customers. It makes you wonder what was said about us after we left. It’s such a shame as The Hub is in such a great position and there seems to be some good activities put on. It would be nice to keep locals happy, and people who could become regular customers, rather than relying on the tourist trade.

.....why am I not surprised to see other comments about slow service !!! It is a shame because it is a really nice venue and the food, when it arrives , is not badAll we ordered was a sandwich and a panini, my daughter queried our order after 30/45 minutes when we saw food going to tables who had arrived long after us ( it was not busy , four or five tables in use) First mistake by waitress, do not try and justify the delay by debating the issue . Second mistake, by another lady staff member who arrived at our table and thought it would be a good idea to start rubbing my daughter's arm . Same lady then arrived with my daughter's sandwich and again tries to debate the issue ....our simple polite response was " it is taking far too long" Once again same lady announces that she is not even supposed to be working ( no idea how this is relevant )After the eventual arrival of said panini, same lady ( who should not be working ) announced through gritted teeth " sorry for the delay there will be no charge"This was the least they could do and irrelevant because we had decided not to pay anywayIt's sad because this type of service will kill a good business, interestingly the lady at the next table who heard everything , said my friend did not want to come here because there have been issues here beforeIt will be interesting to see if The Hub even bothers to respond to such a damming review ( just as an aside I have recently spent six weeks in South Africa, amazing food, first class service, always with a smile and nothing is too much trouble )

We waited an hour for our food with two children under five who were extremely hungry. After politely enquiring after 45 minutes how much longer it might take, the chef came out and shouted at us that she was 'doing her best'. She also shouted at the manager. It was a busy day with a fair taking place next door, but the communication was non-existent. All that was required was an apology for the delay. We were grudgingly offered a refund which, surprisingly, never appeared.

What a gem. We are so lucky to have this delightful almost undiscovered cafe in our midst...lovely food lots to do for the ankle snappers, great staff and amazing cakes. Great selection of herbal teas and though they were almost overwhelmed with queues for their amazing food today all the staff had a smile and were still helpful after being the busiest their had ever been due to hosting a fantastical Vintage fayre - brilliant well done...you've got it just right - prepare for more days of being packed out now that everyone knows where you are. Veggie quiches, succulent cakes, specialist ciders, something for everyone and a wood burner to boot - all in very tasteful surroundings.

Called in after walking around Bodiam castle in the hope of a relaxing coffee break in the beautiful surroundings unfortunately this didn't happen as all I could hear all the time was a group of dogs barking and yelping in the next field. Not sure what event was going on but it ruined my Sunday morning coffee. Although coffee and cake was delicious will not be returning as the moment was ruined by these dogs.

We got off the steam train, spotted the sign to the Hub and took the gamble and pushed our buggy across the field. Pleased we did. So much better than eating in the National Trust cafe (which we had planned to do). Had a lovely (and well priced) lunch, the kids then played in the sandpit for a bit, before when headed back to the castle.

Drinks and cake while we waited to go kayaking. Service is great and cakes were amazing. Would have enjoyed eating anything from the lunch menu too. Small place with some nice quirks! Certainly a tad different from your usual coffee shop.

The Hub really is a home from home. Whether you want to cosy up by the wood burner, dig in the sand pit, feed the ducks, or just drop in for a take away, Anna and her team never fail to make you feel welcome. My 3 year old would live here if she could (even her teachers have become regular visitors after her recommendation!) The Hub offers a relaxing space to treat friends, entertain our children or retreat to after the school run. The food is freshly made to order and always delicious with an extensive range of scrumptious cakes too! We have had a Christmas party lunch for 10, breakfast, brunch, lunch and a cream tea with scones straight from the oven and we have never been disappointed. As a newcomer to Bodiam, The Hub has also been a great place to meet many other local families and take part in local events - the Christmas crafts were a particular favourite! Anna and Nick have a winning formula and we wish them every success for the future!

Great Cafe location; good views of iconic Bodiam Castle with the steam trains running in the valley. They have a strong ethical and local sourcing ethos. Cant wait to investigate further. And they rent Shepherd's huts so what's not to like.

It looks tiny from the outside but the restaurant stretches back inside. The food was excellent, reasonably priced and the service cheerful and efficient. The premises were clean and well designed. I was so pleased we found this place!

Last minute decision and so very glad we did! We met with the kids grandparents here and wow, loved it. - plenty of seating inside - seating outside - small play area for kids - the food can be snacks or a full meal - catered and understood really well re our daughters coeliac challenges with food and cross contamination - the breakfast was delicious, even at lunch time - we stayed even longer and then had cakes - the biggest slice of cake I’ve ever seen at the best price (had to box and take home) - lovely staff Of course there is also spa/food market, pots and plants, cards and gifts, furniture for sale and more. We had such a great time. Thank you so much Eve
