Amazing food. Fish with sag rice was delicious and biriyani lovely. Friendly staff. Reasonable prices. We will be visiting again.

We booked this during our holiday having eaten here before, I was shocked to see a few bad reviews recently and some food hygiene issues. Upon arriving I checked the food hygiene sticker in the door and it is now 3-star. The food was incredible, the staff were friendly, and everything was clean/as it should be hygiene wise. I would definitely eat here again. The service was fast, the staff were attentive and frequently checked back on if the food was ok. The prices are reasonable for the quality and overall the atmosphere inside is lovely.

We’ve been to The House of Spice twice now whilst on holiday in Shanklin. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. Can’t fault it at all - Irish cream on the house at the end of the meal was an excellent touch. Thankyou.

Jalfreizi . Lamb was melt in the mouth. Always a worry. Plenty of chillies which I like to cut up small and mix in but infused in dish so you can put them on the side if you don't want a very hot experience (still hot with these on the side) /lovely correct consistency of sauce.Service as you would expect. Polite and prompt. Proper sag aloo slow cooked for a long time. Large portions could not eat all and I was hungry. I read the bad reviews and I have no idea where their expectations lie. As this was a lovely surprise in a strange town .

The best Indian meal on the island. By far. Nan bread was brushed with Ghee. Perfect. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Very friendly staff and perfect service

We had the most magnificent takeaway from this amazing restaurant on Saturday night to celebrate my 60th birthday. The food was perfect and the delivery service is excellent. We are now looking forward to being able to sit in the restaurant and enjoy a meal enjoying the comfort and ambience in what we believe to be the best Indian restaurant on the Isle of Wight.

Eaten in the restaurant last year but had first takeaway this evening. Excellent food, tasted very fresh and good quality. Would recommend this place for takeaway. Ordered food at 17.10 and was delivered local in Shanklin within 20 mins.

Great experience management and staff are welcoming, courteous and helpful and food is divine! And you always get the same great service whether eating in or out.

We ordered a takeaway from House of Spice for my mum’s birthday last night, and I can honestly say that it was flawless.Every dish was fresh and packed with flavour, and I’ve found favourites in the honey naan, saag mushroom and chicken passanda. The quality of the food was so high, the whole family liked every single dish, and that takes some doing. Not only that, but the service was exceptional - it’s hard to make an impact with your service when it’s a takeaway but House of Spice did it! We will be back, without a doubt - thank-you, House of Spice! If you’re looking for a varied menu, fantastic food, and a treat for your tastebuds then look no further.

This restaurant is absolutely fantastic. The food is gorgeous and the staff are very friendly. Even the delivery is lovely food which is rare. Better than anywhere else on the island by far...

I have eaten here a few times and had many takeaways as well.. The staff are friendly, polite and helpful. The restaurant is a pleasant space and always clean. The food is good value and really delicious. I enjoy the special pilau rice with all the dishes i have had over the years. For takeaways, the service is prompt and efficient. Lovely food - an extensive menu with lots of tasty choices. Being a vegetarian I was a little wary however the menu has a full section of veggie dishes (i’d highly recommend the mushroom masala!) Staff are very accommodating, helpful and friendly.

We enjoyed a perfect family curry at the House of Spice. We visited during a half term break and booked on the strength of the reviews. We were glad we did as the food was superb. The staff were welcoming and child friendly. The curries were varied and very tasty. My lamb Sally was perfect and my son tried the chefs special Khadija Mix which was excellent. The only improvement would be to serve the popadoms fresh, ours were cold and pre prepared / waiting to go out. The Owner was very happy when we complimented the dishes and offered free Bailey's and some soft drinks for the children.

After travelling for most of the day to get to the Isle of Wight, we headed out to find somewhere to eat. The House of Spice were able to accommodate our family of four despite not booking ahead. The food was very good and the staff were very good with our kids. I had the Chicken Madras which was a little tame compared to what I am used to, but was still very tasty.The only thing that I would have added to improve our experience would have been some background music.

My partner and I spent five nights in Shanklin and decided to book an Indian Restaurant for our usual Saturday night curry. Chose this restaurant on the strength of Tripadvisor reviews. Booking was necessary partly because of the Covid 10p.m curfew . Social distancing inside the restaurant wasn't great. We both had a starter and then a main course and thoroughly enjoyed the food but what upset us both was that the moment we had finished our main, a waiter put our bill on the table. No offer of desert or Coffee etc. It was just gone 9p.m when this happened and there simply wasn't enough time for another diner to have our table before the curfew. Put a sour end to the evening.

Managed to get a last minute table on a Sunday night and were not disappointed. Food was delicious and service excellent.

The family and I are absolutely satisfied with the food and service. Came here for my gran’s 80th and she loved it! The food was spectacular, her favourite was ‘lamb modu minty’, it had a good tender taste to it. Definitely coming back here! Thank you to the main man Rashid, we are so honoured to eat here.

every visit i make to this restaurant, it just gets better and better! covid-19 guidelines are set in place, employees cater so much to our needs, it’s unreal! this place never fails to impress me as usual. the food came piping hot and it was delicious! amazing service guys, i appreciate it!

The lamp was clearly several days old was not cooked with the sauce. The meat was just put in. The rice was fine, the nan bread dripping in butter, too much, The Bombay potatoes were also ok but pretty cold. The staff switched off the lights whilst I was still eating and started clearing up. It was 9pm! The moment I finished they were hurrying me off. The only highlight was the Italian waiter, unusual for an Asian restaurant but a nice a friendly fellow.

Fancied an Indian meal, saw House of Spice had some good reviews on FB. Well we weren’t disappointed. Lovely light and airy restaurant. Really wide menu and reasonably priced. Best mixed special Biryani I’ve had for years. My hubby.skorma and daughters veggie masala also superb and all the trimmings also lovely and hot and fresh. Staff were attentive but not over the top. This Indian restaurant in High Street, Shanklin was excellent. During these trying times of COVID the restaurant felt very safe. All the staff wore masks. Tables well spaced. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and attentive especially the manager Rashid who looked after us.

This excellent restaurant is situated in the town centre. The tables were well organised, the food was plentiful and tasty and the service was friendly and entertaining. My prawn madras was the best I have had in a long while. Very good value.

Fantastic meal!Modern venue in a town without many (if any), and following all the government guidelines. We felt safe, secure and very well looked after. Food was lovely, both of us enjoyed our mains from a Korma to a madras. Tasty sauce and succulent meat. Bread and extras were tasty too. Service was friendly and struck that excellent balance between being friendly but not annoying. When we come back to Shanklin we’d not hesitate to come back to the house of spice for a meal. We’ll certainly be suggesting it too!

Very tasty indeed. Almost worth getting the ferry from the mainland for. The chef knows what he is doing with the superb flavours.

Quick delivery good value for money and the quality was very good for a takeaway. Good sized portions and delivered to the door in under 20 minutes.

I thought i have to do this review on other people interest, Phoned in to book a table, he wouldn't book table or saying fully booked, he said you can try about 8.30, went to the restaurant about 8,30 i had to wait about 45min he goes there is people in front of you that one thing,Then the food quality was very poor, i have ordered Chicken Tawa which is normally dry curry dish severed on sizzler, and i asked to be a bit spicy. what they served Chicken Tikka Massala on a sizzler with crushed chilli on top.I think the Chef needs training on dishes and the management on customer srvice.i would not recommend anyone to this place.

We visited here whilst staying in the area. The decor was modern and atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. We were greeted at the door and shown straight to our table. All the staff were wearing masks. A drinks order was taken immediately and we were brought popadoms and the pickle tray shortly afterwards. We could not fault the service throughout the evening. All the staff were friendly and efficient. The menu had several interesting choices and we both tried main courses which we had never tried before. The food was excellent and portions generous. We would definitely recommend this restaurant.

As an ex Midlands girl who now lives in Devon, it’s been a while since I’ve eaten a good curry. I visited this restaurant whilst on a short break and wasn’t expecting much, but i was absolutely blown away. The starters were fresh and tasty, the mains (chicken balti and chicken tikka masala) were THE BEST I’ve ever eaten, and that takes some doing. Amazing flavours and quality ingredients. The place was spotless and the service was brilliant. The restaurant owner, Rashid, is a top man, and I was not surprised to find out he’s from Birmingham. Ha! Do not hesitate to visit. You won’t regret it.

The food was extremely bland. There was simply no flavour whatsoever, from any of the dishes we had ordered. We had jalfrezi, passanda, pilau rice, Bombay potatoes and tarka daal. There was no smell or taste from it, we were very disappointed as we love curry! Slightly over priced and the staff are hurrying you up to finish that they didn’t even offer the dessert menu. Although we arrived a good 30 minutes before the time we had booked. It’s all about money, money, money.

Managed to get a table on a busy Friday night and glad we did. Food was great and we got a really friendly welcome and good service. Would recommend.

Last visited this place about 15 years ago when it was called Purple Mango - they still have the old name on the ceiling! So we were curious to see what it was like now.The answer is very good indeed! Great selection and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. One of the best Indians we have had.Definitely worth a visit but quite small so booking essentiol.

Had a lovely meal here on a busy Saturday night. The food was lovely and although it was small inside they made every effort to manage the social distancing - we were given a table at the back and placed next to each other rather than facing. They also kept one table empty to ensure it wasn’t too crowded - this seemed to upset one or two waiting diners who had to stand outside. We too had to wait outside and we’re quite happy to as we understood the need for this. The service was lovely although you could see they were very busy and had to wait at times but patience is worth it. Thank you for a lovely meal.

Small Indian restaurant so booking essential. Was busy, but Covid-19 safe, the night we visited but the service was excellent and so was the food. Highly recommended.

Ate at the House of Spice on 10 Sept after booking as I was unable to walk in on 9th Sept. Food was really good except for the Peshwari Naan which did not have sufficient fruit.Everyone was friendly enough.The downside was the owner outside touting for business, coming in continually and demanding staff change allocated tables to cater for the unbooked diners. At the end of our meal, we were virtually turned out to make way for others, even though we had booked. I had to finish my drink in a rush to get out of the way.Summary: food good, experience not good.

our third visit to the house of spice .fantastic food and reasonable prices .we stayed on the island for 8 days and yet again this was the best meal of the week.i recommend the sally curry.we will back next september.

Good menu with several main dishes which I hadn’t previously heard of. All the basics, (naan bread, rice, chutneys) competently cooked and served etc.

1st night in isle of wight wasn't sure where to eat and most places we found you needed to book now, however we managed to get in this Indian restaurant and thd food was amazing my husband had chicken jalfrezi and I had one of the specials, Sally which was beautiful. Our chicken and lamb was so tender not fatty at all. Would definately visit again and a shame its not one of our locals at home.

The 5 of us were in the Isle of Wight for a weekend riding our Harleys around IOW for the first time. Our B and B recommended the House of Spice. The restaurant was very busy and our 8pm table was a little delayed with apologies. To be honest that was fine as people shouldn't be hurried to finish their meal and no problem as there was a bar next door. A person from the restaurant popped in to tell us our table was ready. The restaurant is comfortable, welcoming and with a pleasant modern decor. We ordered popadoms and starters along with a bottle of white wine, Draught Kingfisher and bottled Magners. The drinks and popadoms arrived quickly and 2 trays of assorted pickles etc came as well.We had various dishes from Baltis to Lamb Captain Patil, Chicken Tawa, Jalfrezi.... with several rice options, nan breads, Tarka Dall and Saag Paneer. All the food arrived promptly and was hot, super fresh and well presented. All five of us are curryholics and voted the food as superb and ranked it as amongst the very best we had ever had. Service was fast, welcoming and friendly. After we had finished as much of the food we could we were offered a liquer on the house by way of a further (unnecessary) apologies for the delayed table. The manager and staff were very good people, the service,food and drink first class and Was excellent value. Curryholics were very pleased!Very highly recommended.... worth going to the Isle of Wight for the evening... just to enjoy again.Thanks to the manager and staff for a really good experience 10 out of 10!

Fab meal, hubbie wanted to try the Phal so they bought out a side dish for him. Very polite and attentive staff, nothing too much trouble. Delicious food, the only complaint was there was too much for us to handle! We are local so will be back.

But sounds daft but it's English Indian food, very different. I've already text mates whilst I was in there to try it.

Went here for our 1st curry on the Isle of Wight last night. My partners chicken was very chewy and my curry was very tasteless. Wouldn’t rush back here. Portion sizes was average. Lemonade was flat think it was served out of a big bottle that had been opened a while.

Absolutely disgusted,when we arrived Tables on top of each other with a serious lack of discipline and distancing.We were made to wait inside the front door almost standing on top of other diners. Our table finally became available after being wiped down by the waiter, with what looked like a 3 week old dish cloth.After watching these developments unfold,our party decided that we didn't want to endure this environment and left immediately. Cannot comment on the food as we never got that far!!

Rang on the off chance as it was Tues eve, table available at 5:30.Social distancing and Covid measures in place.Kids ordered nuggets and chips - their portions were huge! I had Minty lamb- totally reminded me of Sunday dinner Delish!Husband had a the chicken special, we both had a side and shared naan. Everything was amazing! I can’t remember the last time I had 2nds at an Indian, even the children’s food was lush! I would say drinks slightly £££ and they are not participating in the gov eat out scheme.

We didn’t book as we’d just arrived, the manager accommodated us without a fuss. There was social distancing, given that the restaurant wasn’t massive they did what they were able to do! We filled in the track and trace book. The food came quickly and was hot and delicious, they were particularly generous on the onion baghis. It was value for money. The toilets were clean, with plenty of cleaning products in there if you were particularly worried about COVID you could clean them yourself before use (although that was not necessary!) hand sanitizers were available around the restaurant. The service was efficient and the owner/head waiter was friendly and comical. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Ordered king prawn butterfly Horrible omelette type coating could barely find the prawn ! Chicken korma thought I would play it safe ! Horrible bland stringy strange chicken ! Tasted of nothing Trying to eat this whilst constant stream of people without masks coming in to get takeaway and standing on top of us ! Bad experience! Will never return

This is a typical Indian restaurant. Prices are good and the food is of a good standard. The jovial manager oversaw things in his own unique manner, characterised by constant use of the word, "Lovely!" If you like Indian food, you can't go far wrong with this place. My wife has a requirement for gluten-free food and this was fully understood and met. As with most restaurants in Shanklin, there is no on-site parking, but there is a nearby pay and display public car park (which gets pretty full in season).

We ate here last night. The best Indian we have had ever. Well worth visiting! The menu choices were amazing. Everyone was friendly and atmosphere relaxed.

I ordered a vegetarian curry from the menu and there was no mention of meat anywhere in the description. After finishing my meal, I noticed some chicken like pieces within the sauce at the bottom and after checking with everyone on my table we all agreed this was definitely chicken, and when searching the bowl we found many more chicken pieces. This was awful for me having been a vegetarian for a very long time and it was clear that the chef had mixed up dishes from different bowls. Although they didn't charge us for the meal and apologised, this was still unforgivable for me and I would not come back here.

Huge poppadoms and an immaculately clean chutney and pickle tray were a good start! Great menu - we tried some new dishes. A curry with chicken and ginger was excellent. Sizzling chicken tikka was enormous. Staff were very friendly and courteous. Really good management. We were made to feel very welcome from start to finish. The food was extremely reasonably priced with good portion sizes. A restaurant that has adapted well to the new social distancing measures - everywhere looked clean and all staff wore masks. Hand sanitiser provided. We had a very nice evening at the House of Spice.

Enjoyed our recent meal, tried a new dish and thoroughly enjoyed Jaypuri chicken, just the right amount of spice. Everyone else had a good meal too.Comfortable, air conditioned, tables spaced, very busy so would suggest booking - certainly at the moment - as we did. Staff all had gloves and were masked, few slip ups but who hasn't had a problem keeping them up. Good service, great food and, judging by the people queuing outside (presumably for takeaways) very popular. Pity they haven't signed up for govt initiative.

The House of Spice is a good Curry House serving traditional Indian food. The menu is varied, good value & my Tandoori Chicken dish was very tasty, washed down with excellent cold Cobra beer. My only complaint was being charged £2:00 for the pickle tray, which as a solo diner i hardly touched, however the bill was rectified without fuss.

Booked at the last minute as other restaurants were booked fast. What a great find. Attentive and friendly staff who are working hard during covid 19 restrictions. The food was superb. My mum very much enjoyed the chicken passanda if you like mild curries and I enjoyed the rogan and one of the specialities then name of which escapes me! We enjoyed our experience here so much we returned again during our five night stay in Shanklin. If you enjoy Indian food you cannot go wrong here!

We booked a table for 7 at this wonderful restaurant. Every dish was exquisite and the portions were more than adequate. I had the chicken shaslik which was very succulent and flavoursome. The staff were very warm, welcoming and attentive. We will definitely visit this gem of a restaurant when we next visit the beautiful Isle of Wight.

My husband and I love our Indian food and whilst on holiday on the IOW decided to try The House Of Spice in Shanklin. Well what a treat! The food was cooked with care and attention to detail. The flavours of the curries were absolutely heavenly. The menu has so much to offer we were spoiled for choice. The restaurant itself is very classy and the staff very polite. Would definitely recommend! Five stars

We didn't plan to go for a curry but ended up here as other restaurants were fully booked. What a great find, lovely food, milder than our usual Yorkshire Currie's so if you prefer hot I would specify that, I prefer mild so was really happy! Service excellent, prices very reasonable. Would definitely return.

This is a Indian restaurant with good food, good service and reasonable priced. I am always skeptical with Indian restaurants and would recommend this if you fancy Indian food. Good selection on the menu for starters and main course with a limited desserts.

The house of spice was an amazing experience and was a tasty dinner for all of us. The waiters in there were friendly and chatty, service was quick and the food was hot and delicious. I would recommend this to whoever is thinking of going to the Isle of Wight and having an Indian. Very tasty

We visited on the 23rd of July for an early evening meal and were warmly greeted by the staff and owner. Not too busy as it wa only about 5.30 but even so the service was attentive without being intrusive and the menu extensive.We both decided to have a spice hit and order a prawn vindaloo and a chicken vindaloo with associated chili rice and nan and I can honestly say it was the best vindaloo I have ever had (and I've had a few) If you are ever in Shanklin and want a real good Indian visit these guys,absolutely spot on !

Visited For the first time. Very clean and comfortable. COVID-19 precautions in affect.ordered a Rashmi kebab for staters and then a king prawn madras with keema and onion rice. I eat a fair bit of Indian food but have to admit that this place has blown all the rest away. Amazing flavours. Delicious! Highly recommended. Not for the faint hearted. Hottest Madras Iv come across. Did I mention. Delicious!

What can I say, came here with my boyfriend a few days ago and was not expecting such an incredible meal. Popadoms for us to graze on, incredible samosa’s for starters and the curry, rice and naan bread was to die for. I wish I had room for more. Service was also fab, efficient and personal. My husband and I went to this restaurant twice in our 4 night stay in Shanklin (it was that good!). We ordered the tadka dal and jeera rice, which were both delicious. Also the paneer dishes were lovely, I would highly recommend the PALAK PANEER. The garlic naan was also scrumptious. One of the best TADKA DAAL and JEERA RICE I have had! Excellent quality. Great staff and also very good covid19 precautions. Felt safe from a social distancing perspective.

We have been visiting the Isle of Wight every summer since 2013, and this restaurant is one of our must visit places. The range of dishes is very impressive and the quality of food is top notch. We live between Blackburn and Preston where there are countless Indian restaurants and the standard is high - but this place serves some of the best Bangladeshi style food we have had anywhere in the world . If you get the chance, give it a try .

We had a delicious meal tonight at the very friendly and welcoming House of Spice. The restaurant is extremely clean and all precautions were in place for the current situation. Will definitely be returning on our next visit. Highly recommended.

Our first visit and it won’t be our last 😀 I rang up for a delivery, from start to finish excellent service. Lovely pleasant man on phone, a smiling friendly man delivered our food in the time they said, the food delicious highly recommend 👍

Just had an amazing takeaway from House of Spice. We were always regular customers before Covid 19. Fantastic food, great prices and wonderful personal punctual delivery by Rashid who when told it was our wedding anniversary meal he then returned with a complimentary bottle of wine. What else can I say but thankyou, it was absolutely delicious and as always will be returning and recommending the best Indian in Shanklin and the Isle of Wight. Terry & Jenny x
