Tamarind in Isle of Wight

This place is absolutely amazing. The staffs are wonderful and the food is out of this world . We came from Cornwall to the isle of wight for week holiday for my husbands birthday. Everyone wished my husband a happy birthday and surprised him with a slice of cake with a candle and music. This is by far the best Indian food we have ever had. I would like to thank all members of staff to have made my husband evening so special.

Recommend this restaurant highly. Food is always brilliant. We come here very frequently

The Tamarind is excellent. I’ve never been able to fault the food. Always a warm welcome and a nice atmosphere.

I ordered a take away and gave them 2 hours notice before delivering it. It was 30 minutes late, didn't have the mango chutney I ordered, had another component that wasn't asked for and poppadoms were smashed to pieces. Not very happy.

Not happy with my take away order. 30 minutes late, things missing other things included I didn't want and poppadoms smashed to pieces. They did send out the right items and extra poppadoms 30 minutes later but at this point it was too late. I was starving and ate what I had. Would be better offering a % refund.

Me & my husband visited Tamarind in Newport isle of wight..the wine & coke was lovely & chilled. The popperdoms & dips was very good . Lovely starters very good. Mains chicken spinach dish also boiled rice & sagga aloo also garlic naan. & Chicken Rogan was lovely.lovely evening for valentine's days. Are waiter easy was very good nothing to much trouble. Very clean restaurant & lovely table with valentine's balloon . The staff are very well dress & clean .would come here again for a date night

We order online for home delivery. Never have to wait long. Portions are a good size. Good vegetarian options and lovely Naan bread.

Just love this restaurant in Newport iow. Great menu and the buffet on Sundays is very good 👍. Only 4 stars for atmosphere because when they are busy and everyone is talking the acoustics makes it difficult to hear people on your table. Does not put us off though.

Went to Tamarind in Newport on Sunday for the buffet night.Lovely Greeting at the door.show us to r usual table. Ordered a bottle of rosé wine lovely & chilled. Also asked for water for the table. Very good poppadoms & dips . Easy brought are plates for the buffet. Nice & hot. Lovely buffet very good selection of things. Love the prawn dish . All dishes was nice & hot. Nothing to much trouble for are waiter easy. The Indian restaurant is nice & clean & the waiters are smart dress would recommend this place for a date night or big party's.

Before ordering we saw it had won awards on their website-must be good right? This is one of the worst curries we have had. Full of watery stuff from the rice/sauce which then spoilt everything else on the plate as it was swimming in watery stuff, the onion bhaji’s were rock solid and the chicken was so tough. This was not cheap either and feels like a total waste of money, which we cant afford to waste. So disappointing and wont ever use again. We also went to order on Uber eats but decided to pick up to save the delivery charge, ordered the exact same but was £3 more on collection!? Work that one out!

Nicest Indian meal I've had in a long time!

We ordered a set menu and some onion bhaji's The set menu was wonderful, The meat was tender and the dishes full of flavour. The only thing that let it down was the onion bahji's had hard bits of what looked like the dough that seeemed like they was not cooked properly.

Fabulous! Great atmosphere, faultless service and fantastic food. Certainly one our best Indian meals ever.

Wait time was good. Quantity was very good. Most dishes were tasty. Onion bhajis were not edible - so dry and tough they were impossible to eat. Massively overpriced. Service on arrival was rushed and rude. It’s a while since we’ve been here and definitely not what it used to be - very disappointing.

Large menu selection but the flavours just weren't there. This was my second time here. Short stay carpark nearby. There was 1 gentleman serving about 4-5 tables so it wasn't attentive.

Very competent professional service, brilliant staff, felt very welcome, for our party it felt like playing bingo...legendary ordering service. Spot on for resolving bill issues for large parties.

I went there without booking as I was on my own so I thought they could squeeze me in somewhere. The man who seemed to be the owner was reluctant as the tables were booked but he found a place for me It was around 6pm and he asked me to finish my meal by 7pm. Food was wonderful just a bit spoilt by the owner nervously pacing around . Made me feel on edge a bit. A bit pricey but I enjoyed the food . I’d go again but make sure to book.

Went to Tamarind Indian restaurant with my husband for Buffet night.it was good. Lovely choice of dips ,&, poppadoms.good chilled wine. The buffet was good good choice of starters & curry & rice. Are waiter Miran was lovely nothing to much trouble for him.The restaurant was lovely &, clean . Great restaurants for couples &, big party's. Will be visiting again .top notch food in a nice Indian restaurant .

Staff were very accommodating, attentive and friendly. The food was excellent and plenty of it.

We visited around 8.30pm because they were open and everywhere else was closed and were greeted and seated with a warm welcome. The food was delicious and we will definitely be back for our special beer glass!

I have, as a Brit, been brought up appreciating the best curry houses in the uk. My father a student doctor in the late 50s, lived with Asians and was taught to understand what ‘fine’ Asian cuisine tasted like. I have to say, my meal at Tamarind was the finest. Do not miss this place. You will not be disappointed.

Ordered a take away for delivery, waited well over an hour when it arrived it was only just warm so had to microwave it before I could eat it, some of the order was missing, some was wrong, rang to complain and was promised that they would partially refund me, no surprise there has been no refund, so I paid for an expensive, at best mediocre meal with some parts of the order missing and some parts wrong, will not be using Tamarind again, good luck if you order from here.

Ordered takeaway from this place and everything was sweet including tadka dal.

We visited the Tamarind on the 25 August. The food was excellent. Service was really good. The staff made us feel very welcome. I would highly recommend this restaurant to every one. We are going back for a meal shortly.

Extremely rude behaviour by the owner. We suggest to avoid this restaurant. I would request the relevant authority to keep an eye on the customer service.

It's gone down hill in the past year or so. Orded corma wich was vile looking. 5 large chunks of chicken per curry. Also lamb roman josh just not nice. The last couple of times it's been different and not nice no more.

We went on a buffet night and the food was delicious and there was a good selection to choose from and a great experience trying all the different food.

Very odd reservation system. On website it allowed me to pick a date and time of my choosing. It took my personal details - email and phone number. Then it rejected my reservation and asked me to call. When I called they said we are fully booked. If u r fully booked then why take my personal information? I dont want to share it if we are not using your service. Any other place would not allow u to book it if they are fully booked. Poor service

Went to Tamarind Indian restaurant for are wedding anniversary 18 years. Lovely selection of dips & poppadoms. It was Buffet night great selection of Currys & rice. Nice bottle of wine .nice & chilled. The restaurant was nice & clean & tidy .are waiter mirran was lovely well dressed & clean. Lovely Bailey's to end the evening. Thank you to Jimmy the owner & the others for a lovely night

We booked after reading good reviews and seeing they had won awards, but were very disappointed. I had the chicken Hundy which was acceptable but the other 3 main dishes were all incredibly sweet, despite none being described as sweet on the menu. We almost wondered if the chef had made a mistake and put sugar in them instead of salt. They and the side dishes were fairly mediocre with little flavour or spices. Won't be going again.

Don’t want to give even 1. If you are NOT white looking, don’t bother walking into this. We went at 8:55PM on a Monday evening and the guy rudely said they were fully booked while there were 6 empty tables. We passed by the restaurant after eating at nearby McDonald’s and tables were still empty. No words for this

We booked on line and did not receive a response, we then called and were talked to by a rude staff member, who was not at all helpful. We explained that we would like a table for three people, the restaurant was just opening for business as was not full or busy. Upon arrival, my family member was told they were full! Although there were no visitors in the place, my family member was then told to order a takeaway! Or rebook! I found this rude especially when there are no customers in the place they could have accommodated three people for an hour or so. Overall felt as an Asian, they were not very polite or courteous and preferred English customers. Poor customer service for a reward winning restaurant.

Went for the buffet. Started off OK but then the buffet kept being topped up with less and less meat, more and more vegetables and on one occasion the powder hadn't even been stirred in properly leaving a nice mush in your mouth when trying to eat it. I don't know if it was the owner of just staff but they went over to everyone continuously asking for tripadvisor reviews. It seemed all they were interested in. The couple at the next table were local and had already provided their review, good to see how they are treated once it is received as they were pretty much ignored the entire time they were sat. Not surprisingly they left quickly, and we weren't far behind. Gave it a go, we come across regularly to the island but we won't be going back here again. Not welcoming unless they want something and the food was not at all what we had hoped for or expected. Better off going to a restaurant and ordering what you want, at least you'll have some meat...

The food was amazing I order chicken jalfrezi and asked for a bit of Naga alongside lamb boona which were both very delicious I highly recommend ordering those 2 dishes and I got pileau rice and white rice both tasty as can be. I will visit again for sure. Only thing I advise is call in advance as they take a while to make the food but I'd rather wait and get delicious fresh food then get food fast and for it to taste reheated. Price £26 altogether roughly

Food was excellent. Tandoori chicken was cooked to perfection, allowing gobi was just how I like it,, very little oil. Keema naan and mixed grill was flawless...I took the takeaway so have not rated the atmosphere..

You have to try this restaurant, the food was excellent and reasonable priced. Only visit the island once a year. Will definitely eat there again.

Lovely experience at the Tamarin. Wonderful service and a lovely staff. An incredible waiter called Sam was very helpful and a great communication and ensured we had a good visit on our holiday. And the buffet on Sunday is incredible. Great day out for any tourist visiting the Isle of Wight. Stand out establishment.

Good halal food. Nice staff. Simple desi ambience. I would say it was one of the most authentic Indian food in the UK. Highly recommended to IOW tourists. Resturant is situated in a nice quite Newport (Isle of Wight) neighbourhood.

Had a chicken tikka, was very bland and watery. Very expensive for the quality. Had better at other places

Misleading name, given it is a Bangladeshi place. Secondly as soon as you enter there is a guy warning Indians and south east Asian look guys to enter if they can order mains and not to enter if you want sides. Leaves a terrible taste even before start to order. May not be a fine dining pla e but won't recommend esp for this behavior. Distasteful behavior on an otherwise very friendly island

We ordered the balti prawn and Lamb dish. Having lived in the 3 curry capitals before and being Asian heritage, what we received can only be described a mush of onions and the sporadic prawn. The lamb dish again was onion ridden with 4 pieces of lamb which resembled pieces of lamb tikka thrown into an onion broth. This was not a sizzling dish of what a balti should be. When the waitor asked how the food was, he could tell by my face I was not happy. Very quickly the owner came over and gave some excuse and obviously what we had got was not a balti . He told us he would knock the price of the prawn dish off the total bill. The food in my opinion was very poor and I would not go here again. I'm suprised at the good ratings. But perhaps caters to travelling tourists. But does not remotely reach our expectations.

The food given for take away was different than order. Lack of taste in the overall good and quality was very low.

Restaurant is a bit pricey now. Prices for take away are OK and a lot lower than eating in (they do not have an eating in menu on website). Food is very good as is the service and wel worth a visit.

Inedible lamb madras, Inedible special fried rice and Inedible pashwari nan. Where do i start. I ordered this from Uber Eats today and it arrived on time. The curry was inedible. it tasted like overcooked mush. the Pashwari nan were sugar coated and not very nice. the rice would have been OK, but it was also massively overcooked. To cut a long story short. I can only recommend that you avoid this dreadful restaurant. on a scale of 1 to 10, this is definitely -1. I had to throw the food away.

The best Indian sit down meal we have had in a long, long time. Service was really good and we were not rushed at all. Very welcoming which made our holiday break from Kent very worth while as weather wasn't the best. Everything had a personal touch. You must try.

The food was very good. However, the service was a bit disappointing. The waiter didn't seem to be very pleased to be serving us. Maybe he needs more customer service training or a different job. The other staff seemed cheerful and welcoming.

Visiting IOW and found recommendations for this place. Great food and service.

1hr 45m wait for a phone in delivery order. Called back twice to be told 15 mins, then 40m later to be told 5mins. Food arrived 15m after that. Was completely cold. Portion sized were not adequate for what they cost. It also cost more money than the website states when we paid for the delivery. Shame really, the flavours were nice, but that could have been the fact we were just hungry as anything by the time it got there and had to microwave it. Picture for concept of "adequate portion size"

Quite loud (maybe something to deaden the sound would have helped), otherwise the best Indian starter that I've ever had, followed by one of the best Currys I've ever had. Great service and amazing food

Never had a bad meal here! Takeaway delivery times can be a hit and miss though. Waited 2 hours on my last order, but when it did arrive everything was correct and piping hot as usual 👍🏻 Staff are friendly.

Staff are very welcoming and very polite, food was very nice! I would fully recommend anyone to give this place a try as the flavour is perfect. My only problem is I now want to get another, so will be back very soon.

Ordered a delivery using the website. Order received by Tamarind at 18:31 and an email confirming a 65min wait. At 20:00, no food. Rang and was told it would be 5 mins. At 20:20 my food finally turned up. Cold. Ate it anyway because I was soo hungry. They put 2 poppadoms in the bag which I didnt pay for.....nice gesture HOWEVER they were stale. 1 hour and 50 mins for cold food. Not impressed.

We ate on a Saturday evening having booked a table earlier in the day over the phone. When we turned up they had forgotten we had booked although a member of staff had overheard the booking being made, so they found a table for us. Drinks were fairly prompt, but we had to ask twice for poppadoms. They kept stalling on taking our order for food. There was a large party who arrived just before us and it seemed all the staff were focused on serving them. We eventually got our main meals 90 minutes after arriving, having only had poppadoms in the meantime. Takeaways were going out of the front door all the time. No complimentary drinks offered at the end. Very poor service.
