Masala Bay in Isle of Wight

What an excellent meal. I had chicken Nizami, a dish I had never heard of before. It was absolutely delicious. Very spicy (vindaloo hot) but extremely tasty with lots of flavour. The vegetable rice was also lovely and almost a meal in itself. The staff were very attentive and accommodating, the chef even made my husband a dish he requested that wasn’t even in n the menu. We will definitely return next time we are in Ventnor, which I hope will be soon.

First night In Ventnor fancied a curry. A very pleasing ambiance, we were greeted when we entered. Started with popadum and pickles. Mains were a chicken curry and mixed tandoori both excellent, impressive portions in fact too much for us. The staff were very friendly and attentive, served the mains at the right time and made us feel valued…… The cost, reasonable. Recommended

Had a really enjoyable curry. I asked for my curry to be mild and they did exactly that. It was really tasty. Good portions. Friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.

Absolutely first class curry. We actually had takeaway which was delivered to us. Variety of curries.Full of flavours and cooked perfectly. The owner even rang me up and checked if I preferred non-spicy mango chutney and he made it specially for me. Thank you 😊 🩵 Annabelle and family x

Visited while on holiday in ventnor. We are curry enthusiasts and always have one wherever we go. We loved the masala Bay. Very tasty and rich with huge portions , so much we couldn’t eat it all. We had a chicken tikka main meal with separate vindaloo sauce as this is how the hubby likes it. A lamb Balti, and sagaloo on the side. My lamb was lovely and soft. I had read some reviews saying the food was bland. We did not find this at all with what we had. Staff were friendly and the service was quick and good. Would definitely return

Firstly. I have read a lot of the reviews on here. Some verging on a racist slant. Customers can be of any colour or creed. We are on the Isle of Wight which is mainly ‘white folk’. I have eaten curries from brick lane, Bangalore through Bangladesh/Daka. The worst curry I ever had was in Bangalore. EVER. Also most intelligent people know that an ‘Indian’ restaurant will have Bangladeshi cooks. We won’t go in to the history of it. However the food here is always good. The staff are nice and if you go anywhere during summer season the staff will be rushed and perhaps not as on the ball/polite as they could be. I have eaten here 5 times whilst visiting family and this is the go to Indian for us. Not had one bad meal the people are friendly. Reasonably priced too. Come and visit with an open mind and enjoy a nice curry. We really like it. Not bland at all is ‘white roll’ quite like it 😊

The curry served in this restaurant was surprisingly devoid of flavour, both our meals were bland and very disappointing.

Excellent restaurant with a great variety on the menu.

We went as a party of 25. After eating English food for most evenings fancied a change. Variety of dishes were many however each lacked flavour and the lamb was very chewy. We made a point about the mix grill which had no taste at all. It's a bit pricey to.

The food was loved so much by the whole family that we ordered twice in one week whilst on holiday.

We were a family group of 17 of varying ages and we thought the food was very fresh and tasty. The service was ok but the food felt a bit flung out at us (maybe because of the size of the group and how busy the restaurant was). Also we could have been asked if we wanted drinks, and a couple of times felt o had to get up to find someone. Overall a very good experience that could easily be excellent with a bit more attentiveness and air con (it was very hot in the restaurant).

Not bad. Food was tasty and decent sizes. Let down by being extremely hot inside (the floor fans don't help much) and a slightly odd ordering system where one person one takes drinks orders then next person only takes food orders.

Chicken, salmon and lamb very dry. Very oily and sweet. Not spicy at all.

Possibly the worst Indian takeaway I’ve ever had. We had it whilst on holiday in Ventnor. The quality of the food, meat, ingredients were just not very good. We actually couldn’t finish our meals it was so bad

Absolutely stunning. This may be the best Indian meal I have ever eaten! Portion sizes fantastic...food quality....10/10....taste....superb...really can't fault one single thing. Service was very helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend. We had Tandoori starter x 1 Onion bahji x 1 portion (4) Poppadoms x 4 Lamb korma x 2 Special fried rice x 2 Garlic naan x2 And I have to say....both me and my husband were defeated. Thoroughly enjoyed it though

A nice curry house catered for vegan and vegetarian not too bady price and a good selection service was good without being too intrusive

Staff wasn’t welcoming at all. Cutlery was dirty. Didn’t replace even after asked to change. No serving spoons provided, upon asking , we have been told to use the once on the table!!! Food was floating in oil. Will not recommend it.

Food is delicious, freshly prepared and full of flavour. Service is excellent, staff are friendly and attentive. Celebrated my husband's birthday here and they brought out a birthday cake without being asked to do this! First time in an Indian restaurant for our children and they loved trying all of the dishes. Will definitely be returning and would recommend to others.

Happily spoiled our evening today. First of all a bad thing to mention is only attending white people. On the name of Indian restaurant it is a bangladeshi restaurant so, if you’re looking for Authentic Indian restaurants than this is not the place for you. No professional staff, no welcoming nature. Definitely not going back here. Thank you.

We thought we may check this Asian restaurant but as always it’s a Bangladeshi restaurant serving bland indian dishes. The staff were polite friendly and courteous. We ordered Daal Tadka and Channa Masala and also requested to make it Desi hot. The food was presentable but not tasty at all. It was the blandest of all. Indians looking for authentic taste then this is not the place. The ambience is nice and it’s busy with white folks. Apart from food, everything else is top class.

Great curry and starters for the wife and I. All the classic dishes on offer but we tried 2 different Nepalese dishes which were both excellent. If you fancy a curry while you’re in Ventnor, I can highly recommend 👍🏻

Had a lovely belated birthday meal here with my partner, staff were very welcoming and adhered to my partners dietary needs as she's non gluten and non dairy. The food was lovely, very filling neither of us could finish all of our meals. One downside is that they literally only do one beer. I'm a non drinker so a non alcoholic lager would've been nice. Would visit again

We needed a delivery to a remote campsite and the guys could not have been more helpful and friendly. Very patient with our requests and very quick.

A warm welcome, great service & a have a great evening, see you again soon. The meal during our early evening visit was full of flavours, rather a large potion that we could not finish, but an excellent dining experience that we could not fault. We will return again when we can get back to the island.

Whilst the service was good the three different curries we had were all over sweetened and we ended up leaving a lot of it.

We had a good takeaway meal from here, plenty of food in the portions, and the sauces were tasty. The chicken in my masala was a bit tough & chewy though. and I do wish they would have more paneer mains options, so you could select a korma or masala and then paneer instead of just meat options and "vegetables". Bhajis were the best part of the meal.

Average food and price not my top 30% Indian restaurants just gets below my top 50% for takeaways.

Really delicious food, strong bold flavours and lovely service, we were celebrating a friend's birthday and they really went above and beyond thankyou so much Masala Bay! Only thing I feel could be improved is for the music to be a little louder, bit of ambient music is always nice to have but can understand that some people like it more quiet. But a minor critique on what was a lovely evening

Atmosphere and decor good but the service was way too fast. The food lacked flavour and spice and was totally bland. Also, the chicken was overcooked and tough.

Excellent food and service. Very good food would recommend garlic chilli chicken curry. Perfect for friends or family to come and have a great meal.

First time eating at masala bay and what a fabulous dinner I had here! Service was 10/10 food also matched the service 10/10. Waiter was called Sayed has such a friendly approached with a friendly smile :)

Reading the reviews - I am seeing quite a lot of criticism on food. Few suggestions for those people. Yes this is a Bangladeshi Restaraunt. You need to set your expectations right. You cannot expect delhi taste here. Like you won’t get the taste of Dhaka in a Delhi Durbar Restaraunt. Another suggestions - ask more generic dishes if you are visiting once as a tourist. Personally for me - was a good experience. Ordered dal tarka and chana masala with naan bread. Staff asked us if we would like it India style spicy to which we said yes. It was tasty and cooked well and spicy enough for our taste buds. Staff was courteous and came thrice after serving to ask if we needed anything. Water was also served without asking. Would recommend this place if you are on the island as a tourist and craving Indian food.

Zero stars for people working at the reception. Service is worst never had I ever encountered such rude person. We are tourist visiting the restaurant to have some food. But the audacity of the servers shouting at us just because they want to close the kitchen at 10pm but it’s only 7 pm. There are so many seats available but he was giving them to other people and was racist towards us. Started yelling get out and order no seats available for you. There is something wrong with that person and this is not the way to behave when there was literally no need to make a scene . We had just asked if seats are available or not.

Unfortunately originally coming from west london the food is very much for the English palate. Not what I am used to from an Indian restaurant.

The best Indian meal ever! Lovely staff, everything top rate! The staff were really sweet and smiley. I had a dish I had never tried before and hubby had a delicious Vindaloo! Can't recommend the place highly enough!

Both main meals were so tasteless we could not eat them. Wrong naan bread served but we were told it was what we had ordered. My starter was at best Luke warm so all in all not good at all and very expensive. So unless this was just a bad day for them I would avoid.

Bland food, expensive (£74 for two). Starters came before poppadom was completed. Mains very bland ( chicken tikka masala and lamb rogan) . Naan bread had cheese in ( ordered peshwari) When waiter finally appeared he said it was definitely peshwari and was not interested. Poor service. So disappointed, couldn’t wait to leave.

Upon entering, we were greeted very warmly and seated efficiently despite not having a booking. The food arrived via a wooden-carved ornate trolley, which was visually pleasant before the dishes being placed before us. I ordered what I would usually order via takeaway back at home from another business, and I was not disappointed; the flavour and quantity left me feeling full and satisfied, with enough to takeaway at the end. A lovely experience had and well worth visiting/ordering from. Thank you!

Excellent curry one of the best

Great choice of food nicely presented. Not the cheapest but the pleasant waiter and quality of the food made it a very enjoyable meal for both of us. We have dined there on previous holidays on the Isle of Wight and not been disappointed. Very tasty and adequate.

We booked a table for 24 as a pre birthday party meal. The restaurant was very accommodating and sat us on a long table. Service was brilliant and all 24 said their food was really good and hot. Thank you for making it a brilliant evening for us all !

Average food but not cheap. Bill had extra items that we did not have. There must be better in the area.

My husband and I had the lamb Korai which was tough and chewy and I had to leave most of mine. The waiter explained it by saying it was a supplier issue. A real pity as the flavour was good. Also, to be charged an extra £1 for a tiny flavour of chutney left a bad taste, on top of all the other extras that got charged for.

The customer service was brilliant and the food was well priced for the quality. They had some of the best lamb and mint sauce that my wife and I have ever tried! Unfortunately they let themselves down with their chicken tikka massala being undercooked. Apart from that mistake, it's definitely worth a visit for a nice curry.

Right little gem stumbled upon this place after looking around and every where being fully book. Food was absolutely amazing full of flavour all 3 of us could not have been more happy with our food give it a try 5 star

Food was very good specifically Indian i would say as good as i've had anywhere, also slightly more to chose from given the classics the chef specials and Nepalese menu. Service was good also.

Unfortunately my food wasn't great. Chicken was dry to the bone, I had chicken tikka and did not except dish to be so dry. On the plus side your signature red sauce and mint sauce are lovely

We had a great meal here recently. It is a very smart restaurant with friendly staff and the portions are quite large but the food is beautifully cooked and we thoroughly recommend it.

Food was 10/10. Service was brilliant.

On a dark Sunday evening when nearly everywhere else was closed, this was buzzing with life and serving delicious food :-)

Excellent, authentic and reliable takeaways. Advise against eating here on a hot summer's day, though. The food though, is superb, both in intrinsic quality and (crucially) judicious spicing. Not cheap!!

We had a delicious takeaway from here last night, the highlight was the lamb shank special dish and the mixed starter! Food was ready ten mins earlier than the email confirmation but that wasn't a problem for us. Would highly recommend if you're in the area!

Two of the staff were rude and unhelpful. One of them slammed my glass of wine on the table. We walked out without eating and found another Indian restaurant in Ventnor which was very welcoming and served good food

The Lamb Vindaloo blew our heads off to the extent that it was inedible. We have never experienced a Vindaloo like it despite eating the same regularly in other Indian restaurants across Europe/Asia. I politely phoned the restaurant to inform them but the manager denied any problem and just said well it is normally spicy. So I said I wouldn’t be coming back again! “Fine” he said!

Worst Experience ever, won’t recommend. Staff is too rude as well as food is bad. Would give 0 if that was an option.

I would give 6 stars if possible! Delicious and perfectly cooked food, and the service simply outstanding! I went in with two small children and the staff was very attentive and friendly, we were all so pleasantly surprised about everything, we all left super happy and super full XD

We were looking for Indian restaurant nearby and was suggested by someone but was very bad experience as the staff was very very very rude and as i come from the same background. I was expecting a good hospitality as this restaurant has name but was very poor service as staff were laughing after we left without any food and felt disrespectful. I feel restaurants are made for experience but this was worst experience we ever had and will never come back and won’t recommend any one to go as well. Thank you very much for this kind of hospitality to your guests.

Really attentive service and a superb meal. And they’re open on Sundays! ( so many restaurants in the area seem to think that people don’t need to eat on a Sunday or a Monday).

Good meal and friendly service. We didn't need to book when we went but it is advisable.

If you are English and want 'english' indian food, then the food us ok!!! (or there is a good kebab takeaway opposite) But if you appreciate indian food with real Indian flavors then go elsewhere. Asked how the biryani was made? Was it made with saffron? the reply give "its made with rice!!!!!" (Think that should have been the alarm bell) We ordered a veg curry that arrived cold and tasteless (see photo) asked for it to be taken away as was cold and not my taste!!! The manager thought it was right to laugh at me and said "that's how it is served" walked away (with the veg curry) 'sneering' !!!!! The keema nan arrived with a lump of 'keema' tucked into one end, the other 2 dishes just tasted of coconut, the Pudina Dahi and Aam ki chutney was equally tastless, sadly for us it was all very bland and English tasting. We did not complain about the food because the English holiday makers were eating it. What we made comment about was the veg curry was cold and sadly for us it was not to our taste or liking. I really appreciate that places like this think holiday makers are just till fodder, and there is always more waiting round the corner. But!!!! Sometimes someone just want what is advertised and really does know what they are talking about.

If you are craving some Indian cuisine in Ventnor or IoW, this is the place to come. Beautiful ambience, Cooperative staff and Tasty good. Would recommend their Garlic Chicken Curry and chitney platter 😋

Incredibly overpriced for very mediocre curry. Butter chicken cloyingly sweet. Charged us neck end of £4 for small bottles of sparkling water which they went out and bought from Co-op next door. Robbery

Always a worry when you’re on holiday will the food be good well I highly recommend you try this restaurant I had a chef special mixed masala and it was amazing you could taste all the different spices definitely go again when we’re back on holiday

Lovely curry with the wife. I had a lamb bhuna and the wife had a lamb korma. Food was served quickly and was piping hot. Staff were polite and attentive. Some pieces of the lamb were chewy but the flavours were beautiful. Will definitely return again.

First visit and we think their curries are very tasty. We have tried a lot of curry houses. The chicken was so tender.

Staff attitude was pathetic. We entered around 9:00 PM, the restaurant was very empty, we were given a table and we requested different one (with same number if seats, just little away from a big group), we were refused and were made faces on instead of just a polite refusal. We decided not to eat and walk out. Think there is lot to do with basic manners. (We later got to know that the restaurant was not actually run by an Indian but someone from south asia outside of India, so was not sure if that unwelcoming behaviour was subtle racism?!

My compliment to the chef and the owner. Food was amazing and we appreciate the fact the owner was apologetic about our waiting time. Happy with the lady who welcomed us and deeply unhappy with the waiters (they sounded pushy and rude to me). And that is why we are not going to come back.

(Group of 11 of us) Great experience up until the bill came. Good food. The older gentleman and Lady were great and very attentive. The young guy who brought the bill suddenly told us we owed another £100. Took everybody’s amounts down and calculated we had actually overpaid (to include a generous tip), were told rudely that we still owed £100, then proved (again) that we didn’t. The guy then decided that ‘as long as you pay for the poppadoms’ you can go. We’d already paid but it was worth the £20 just to get out. Won’t ever go there again.

Phenomenal food, absolutely delicious, quick to make, and they made it vegan for us too on request. Good value also. Made our last holiday dinner v special!

Lovely place to eat and beautiful food

Had a lovely meal with the family. Main courses were particularly good, slight gripe is that their sauces with the starters (subjective I know), are not quite as tasty as I would have liked. However the starter and main course we had were lovely. Would be great to have a kids menu as otherwise it makes ordering a little pricey. But only small issues on what was a lovely meal, with really nice staff, we will certainly eat there again.

Excellent food...good friendly service.. served fery quickly after poppadoms to start.. went early just after 6pm and we were the only two until 7.. have eaten here 6tines now and not had a bad meal.. highly recommended 😊👍
