Bay Leaf Indian Restaurant & Takeaway in Isle of Wight

We did book the table and went on time. but a long wait of more than an hour and a feeble response. Though they call it Indian food, it is a horrible food, there is no taste/flavour or quality or quantity. It is kind of very dry.. and very expensive. I wouldn't suggest you to go. You can very well choose to go to any English restaurant or pizza shop to have good food and save your time & money.

Came here on the strength of the online reviews and so glad we did!! Food was delicious with great portions. The staff were first class particularly Lewis who was so attentive, polite and efficient. Highly recommended!!!

Great service. huge plus for warm plates and homemade nan bread but... very plain mains with no taste and lack of meat inside... 5 times more sauce than meat... not recommending chutney trai... poor quality chutney ect. If I would ever get back then I would only get few starters and skip the main courses. it need someone to sort out main courses... then it will be top class Indian restaurant! in general 3/5

Just had the most gorgeous meal at the Bayleaf, cooked to perfection. Each dish was just beautiful. The best Indian food ever. To top it off, cooked, served, by lovely staff.

We found this place by chance and we’re luckily thrilled with the visit. We eat strictly vegetarian and spoke to the attendant in advance. The food was freshly prepared and excellent quality and very tasty. The naan bread were very soft and warm. Lot of parking at rear of restaurant. Would definitely recommend this place to any travellers.

There should be something lower than TERRIBLE. I would have give this place not a zero but a NEGATIVE marking. The food was way worse than TERRIBLE. Every dish was sweet, god knows why. Being a proud Indian I very well know my dishes and curries, and whatever this restaurant is making is defo not Indian. Every dish tastes like dessert, from Korma to lamb bhuna, prawn jalfrezi to chicken tikka. The worst food I have ever eaten in my entire life across the planet. They should be banned from making Indian food and would class their restaurant as a dessert parlour. TERRIBLE FOOD ! TERRIBLE FOOD ! TERRIBLE FOOD

So good . Live in London so spoilt with what you can get delivered. This place is superb. We have probably had about 15 meals from here. Always faultless . It’s a quality place

The restaurant staff is not friendly. We ordered food and waited for almost an hour. They served water only after I asked. Even they did not serve serviettes. Portions are very small and rice is not well cooked.

An excellent meal for two. Very tasty food, great service and good value for money. As has been mentioned before they don't serve alcohol but you can take your own.

We loved Bay leaf takeaways previously, something for all the family, reliable delivery service and we looked forward to ordering each time. Unfortunately we were very disappointed! Took over 90 mins to arrive to our short distance away location. We gave the postcode (same as previous times) but it seems that along with address is no longer of use for their deliveries. Can’t understand why! A number of follow up calls just frustrated us even more! Such a pity we won’t return! Even greater pity that we paid over 80 pounds for this!

Absolutely fabulous food, service very polite, a little wait for food to be ready, but worth the wait and served very hot. One little thing that did let it down, was we chose not to take any alcohol with us and was happy to buy there soft drinks, but they was quite expensive for a glass a lemonade which was not chilled, and quite warm which melted the ice immediately. So to be perfect please chill your soft drinks no one likes warm pop.

We were in Isle of Wight for about a week and ate from Bay Leaf four times. Tasty food, cooked with fresh ingredients, right amount of right spices and portions in sufficient quantity. Waiting for take away order was roughly 45 minutes but the taste and quality made the wait worth it. We also dined in once, and eating it hot from kitchen was so flavorsome good. Keep up the good work, chaps :)

One of the worst service.. We waited for almost 90 mins and nothing came in.. The portion size is also very less.. The worst part is we can see too much of take away orders are going out..

I've been to Bay Leaf 4 times now and every time the food as been delicious. The stand out dish for me was the Gujarati, I've tried both the lamb and the chicken and it tastes amazing, but to be honest all the dishes here are. The portion sizes are generous. The staff are very friendly. You can bring your own alcohol. Altogether one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to.

We have been visiting this restaurant for years as we live 10 mins away. In all that time we have never had a bad meal. The food is always excellent, the service is always good and being able to take your own alcaholic drinks makes it a very affordable night out. We have several family members who visit us and the first thing they ask is for us to book a table and we all have a great evening. This is an excellent restaurant and if you dont visit you are really missing out.

Ordered online about 4 o clock which was easy ,requested delivery for 6 o clock,we weren't disappointed it arrived on time and as always delicious.

Taste of the food was decent but the portion size wasn't the best. I found it too expensive for the size of the dish. If it was a fine dining restaurant I would understand but it's just a regular restaurant not sure why the price is so high for such a small portion. The entrance is abit Dodgey it has a open sign near a door but that's not the entrance it's sealed shut there another entrance at the side and that entrance looked like the entrance of another shop not Bay leaf Indian restaurant. The staff that took our order was not very receptive with criticism and feedback of the food size. I can see from other reviews as well complaining about the food portion size as well. The only good thing is that it's BYO (alcoholic drinks) and they don't charge you for it.

Ordered a take away, I think the meal had been left on the side a while ( though I had to wait for it when I went in) as it was not that hot and just not that exciting a dish compared to others I had had. My popadums tasted a bit stale but again I just think they had not been freshly cooked maybe. Staff pleasant enough. I wouldn’t say I’d never return as maybe it was just an off night. .. Adding to this as I did return months later, the chicken pieces were not tender, far to big chunks in the curry and the popadoms not that crispy. And it did not lay good on my stomach hours after. Sorry guys not for me.

Fantastic, turned up unexpectedly August Bank Holiday Monday and asked for a table for 2 the gentleman in charge made us both very welcome great food and pleasant staff.

Really excellent in all ways. Ordered a takeaway for a group of 9, it arrived on time, piping hot, and everything was there as ordered!. Every single dish was delicious. To please 9 individuals will no dissenters is some achievement! Thank you. A lovely way to end our week's holiday.

We tried this place first time on our holidays, food was amazing being Bengali can say the food was authentic and easily one of the best I’ve had in a long time, was enjoyed by my whole family and greatly appreciated the disposable plates, would definitely come back as food and service was 10/10

Home made style food made in warm, mild spices no over powering flavours..just the kind of dal and subji kids love after a long day trip. We would love to go back and have dinner again when we visit IOW.

My daughter thought that it had amazing service and the people where very polite and the food was scrumptious. We will be returning soon.

We had a takeaway last Friday evening, only waited 15 minutes. Staff were nice. Food was hot, fresh with large pieces of chicken. Saag allo had plenty of spinach. We will be returning.

Small but cozy restaurant with very close parking just behind it, amazingly delicious food and very attentive service by Lewis with smile throughout. Will definitely be back when down in Isle of Wight again.

Family takeaway delivered for family of 5, absolutely delicious all round! Kids loved their curries too! So good we ordered again during our second week and tried different curries! Highly recommend this, great quality, could order online and arrived in a timely manner. So good...

A very busy restaurant on the the night we visited. The service and food were excellent all round. We enjoyed not being rushed at all and everything was very tasty, one of the best curry's I have in a long time. No frills, bring your own booze, basic settings but a really enjoyable experience. Tesco down the road had chilled cobra beer on offer which was nice :)

Two of us had dinner on Jun 2nd 2022. Very good service in spite of busy night. Food was fresh, spicy as we requested and most importantly healthy. Felt like home cooked food. Throughly enjoyed it. As they don’t serve alcohol, we had our own bottle of wine.

Ordered at 19.10 was told food will be here in up to 45 minutes, phoned an hour later to ask where my food is, was told it's ready just waiting for a driver will be another 15-20 minutes! Food finally turned up at 20.40, Chips and rice were both cold and dry, the korma was Luke warm and I cut a bit of chicken in half to try it and it was pink! Don't even get me started about the nann bread was dryer then a nuns fanny!

Lemon rice and popadoms were fine but onion bhaji were very over cooked......Thought chicken tikka was meant to be creamy, was more like soup, watery and no flavour. Won't be supporting our local takeaway anymore. Waste of money.

Unable to cater for dietary requirements!! Asked for our food to be cooked in rapeseed oil rather than vegetable oil, and we even offered to provide the oil a few days before. This has never been a problem with other Indian restaurants in mainland England. So no curry for us here, when on holiday in a few weeks. Very disappointed

Amazing food. We collected a take away. Onion Bhaji, chicken puri, tandoori mixed grill & chicken tikka sag. No grease whatsoever, hot food and very tasty. Will definitely return. Best Indian meal in a long time.

Probably the worst Indian meal I have ever had. Chicken picked off the bone not a bit of breast in the whole meal. Under cooked vegetables rock hard tasteless onion baihji . Will definitely not be eating there in the future.

I have used these in the past and service and food has been OK, tonight though I don't know what went wrong, but waited 2hrs for my food and when it arrived half off it was missing!!! Rang them and they was not willing to deliver missing items, last time I use there service!!!!!

Placed order online shortly after opening time 6.15 received confirmation of order email. After 2 hours nothing arrived tried calling 20 times either engaged with people trying to get through and when it did ring no answer just rang out. No reply to messages sent. No food ever arrived. Evening ruined as too late to get an order from anywhere else. Definitely do not order and pay online. Infact avoid altogether.

Very lovely spot for very lovely Indian food. My parents like to come here regularly but I went for the first time last night. Can recommend that you go here. 5 stars all round!

Well the takeaway from here was faultless . King prawn dishes full of prawns . Best mushroom rice I’ve had. All fresh and hot and no oil floating on top. Live in London and better that 99 percent of what we get there.

Ordered online for delivery to Whitecliff Bay, took approx hour. Note £4 delivery fee not on website. Friendly scouse delivery driver rang when was outside. Food was tasty and great. Recommended.

First time ordering from this place after being on the island since June I can honestly it was the BEST Indian meal we have had since we came here,it was ordered for delivery so I phoned through our items.we were expecting to have to reheat some of it given where we are (lower Knighton) but no, it arrived nice and hot and was absolutely devoured by all! If you are in the area and you like Indian food look no further and you won’t be disappointed.

Food and service was to die for. I really mean that. A group of 6 of us, and not 1 person could find the slightest issue. That said considering you take your own alcoholic drinks as they have no licence, the food was expensive. So don't make the mistake of thinking it will be a cheap curry. Still well worth the money. 😊

This restaurant serves excellent food. Although it doesn't serve alcoholic drinks, you are free to bring your own in. The food is amazing, and the owners and staff are freindly and very welcoming, all you could wish for. I use the restaurant fairly frequently, and I think that it serves the best indian food on the island. Recommended.

friendly service, patient and understanding staff. I asked for food that was not spicy so that my 4 year old could manage. The person on the phone was very patient and friendly with my requests on both days, the guys who delivered were really nice, called ahead to confirm they had left the restaurant and would arrive in few mins and the food was excellent. Food was good. Our top pick from the food we ordered were Vegetable Biriyani, Naan & Egg Fried Rice. Only thing was we had to wait for a long time to get our food! Maybe it was a busy day, not sure!

After our local Indian closed down I searched reviews for a replacement. This restaurant had great reviews so I thought I'd give it a go. I'm so glad I did as it's now our go to on the Island. We have had several meals (takeaway)...

"INDIANS ARE NOT ALLOWED HERE AND DON'T COME HERE AGAIN“ this is what the receptionist told me over the phone. So, I booked a table for 12 on Saturday and reached there in approx 20 mins. She said you will have to order 1 main course each person, which was weird but it was fine for us as we were going to have dinner there. When we entered, it had a weird smell and the HYGIENE RATINGS DISPLAYED ON THE DOOR WAS '3', which explained the smell and it is very low for a good restaurant. This is why we all changed our mind and came back from the entrance hall. In 5 mins, received a call from this very rude lady... I apologised to her to change our decision but she replied very rudely, shouting at me for changing our decision saying she set up the table for us and we changed our mind and that's why Indians are not allowed there...don't come there again. Such a rude and racist comment... Just can't believe that they are running an Indian restaurant and don't want Indians to visit... (They still named it Bayleaf Indian restaurant) Very disappointed. We didn't come in because of your HYGIENE RATING AND DISGUSTING SMELL. If your restaurant was clean, you wouldn't have got that rating. I read other comments later and saw very rude replies to them. Will make sure, this gets reported. Completely Racist restaurant. If you like to eat in a clean restaurant and want to be served by friendly staff... DO NOT GO HERE. HYGIENE RATING - 3. And yes, I won't be visiting you guys ever. Edit- Can not believe owners reply here. Instead of apologising you called me Stupid and arrogant just because I said the truth about the smell and the hygiene rating. We did not even see the Menu. Didn't even sat down.. The smell was bad enough for us to return from reception and hygiene rating said it all. So stop blaming it on the cost. Also, attaching the hygiene rating here which clearly says Food hygine and safety as Fair. Council won't rate you Fair ’’3“ on Food Hygine for a broken door.. another excuse. Delicious local Indian food. Lovely staff, but note they Don’t sell alcohol!! It’s BYOB! Amazing peshwari naan and many curries to choose from. Nice portion of dips but bit pricey. Expensive prices, even charged for popadoms. Check the bill to ensure not over charged.

One of the worsts place I ever been manager was so rude to talk after placing my food order when I went to collect my food order they cancel my whole order there was little girl on the till she don't no how to talk to costumer naver seen manager and staff so arrogant and rude. Completely unprofessional place.

Very poor hygiene and manners of attendant. Stale food received. When complained, we were told reviews don't matter to him. Very sorry, but I could only imagine that our complaint is an exception.

And the food was just unexpected, very delicious, served very well and people there are also very friendly and sweet. I didn’t find any reason to not like this restaurant. Called in when on island for a day trip very obliging got us in very quickly when we phoned ,excellent food piping hot and very tasty suggest the young man serving us has a bit more training on how to speak and deal with customers he seemed to have been thrown in at the deep end and left to it not his fault at all .

If you love Indian curry, I would never suggest you to even try this place. Horrible curry, all sweetened. Overpriced. Well, who adds sugar in Kadahi Lamb, it seemed more sugar than lamb!!??? Butter chicken lacked creamy texture and was way too sweet. Horrible experience.

Staying on the Isle of Wight for a week decided to try out the Bay Leaf after reading TA reviews. Had five dishes including butter chicken, lamb passanda and mixed grill. The lamb melted in the mouth. Best I have ever had in an Indian....
