Awful! Booked for a birthday celebration. Bar man was miserable and no customer skills. Took ages to get a menu, missed food off the order which meant 2 of our party ate after everyone else had finished. Wasn't offered any money off. The waiter and waitress tried their absolute best in a poorly organised restaurant. The food was actually OK. Wouldn't go again.

Went this morning to try out the new breakfast menu. Lots of great options, including a build your own breakfast for £10.50, where you could choose 10 items! The staff at the Horseshoe are always lovely, as is the food. Really recommend going for the breakfast, the rest of the menu is great too. Always enjoy our meals at the Horsehow!

We went into The Horseshoe Inn for a family meal. We were given a warm friendly welcome and shown to our table . The starters were all very nice and so were the desserts. The main meal of which we all had the carvery - roast beef , roast ham and d roast Turkey were just ok . They all had a Yorkshire pudding on top of a good selection of vegetables- broccoli, green beans, parsnips, potatoes etc . The problem was, that there was such an excessive amount of gravy , so much so, that you could not taste the vegetables and the roast meat! The roast meat was in very small portions - the smallest I have experienced. The same gravy was used on all the different meats . I thought it would better if they had provided the gravy in a gravy boat so one could have it as an option Everything else was fine, it was just a pity about the main meal Car parking was fine with two disabled spaces . Access was very good with flat access for wheelchair users Toilets were clean with a wheelchair accessible toilet We would go again but not have the carvery unless the gravy was presented as an option

Amazing food and service from staff, very friendly and welcoming, would definitely recommend for families and couples wanting a nice meal out :)

Upon arriving we waited 20 minutes and no drinks ordered placed, we had to find a waitress who then came and we ordered drinks and food at the same time. We then waited 60 minutes and asked how long our food was likely to be and we were told it was being plated up, a further 15 minutes and two plates were put on our table one of which we had put pepper on, only for the manager to rush out and remove our plates as they were for a different table! So again after 75 minutes we waited for the correct food to come out. Two roast beef dinners had 2 very thin see through pieces on and the chicken dinner had only one small piece and the stuffing was no more than a tea spoon. Our party had 2 children and my elderly mum who certainly don’t want to wait over 75 minutes for food, we were a table of only 7 so this wait was very poor. We had been here previously with a larger group and the waiting time was very poor then but thought we would give them the benefit of the doubt. More fool us. Needless to say we certainly won’t be going there again. Totally spoilt what should have been a lovely relaxing Mother’s Day meal. Again as in other reviews it’s the waitress who apologised and it is the owners place to do this not his staff, and the excuse of being busy is not good enough. They should only cater for as many tables as they can manage, which they obviously don’t.

Honestly appalling!!! On a long drive to see my sick grandma and needed to stop for the toilet! Saw this pub and went in side, was prepared to buy a drink or some crisps so we could use their facilities but no one in site apart from one man in the dark who didn't look like he worked there as he wasn't in work attire (clearly very unprofessional) so we navigated the toilet and was going to leave a tenner on the bar as we left until one woman comes in glaring at us and immediately walks out (unprofesslonal again). Then a MAN walks in and asks what we were doing and explained the situation. He was very rude when I noted we didn't see him and he kicked us out without being polite or showing any human decency! We were prepared to pay but shows how unprofessional as they wouldn't listen to us. One of my relatives actually slipped while entering the bathroom due to wet marks over the floor which is a danger hazard! Very appalled!!! As we were leaving their staff proved to be even more unprofessional as there was a gaggle of them who came from no where standing at the bar glaring us down and clearly saying how ill mannered we were when all we tried to do was use their facilities at the pub. I personally think it's ill mannered that they didn't hear us out when we didn't see anyone when walking into the pub! Very disappointing

Misleading menu free meal pushed through door for one person until you go in and pay and not honored by the owner feel ripped off 80.00 bill even when leaflet drop says one free with no times or meals that you have to eat the owner knew about this misprint two days ago and is still ripping people off even the staff know its a rip off customers even said not another one the owner tried to talk us out of it as he knew all about it even before we went in he even said to me this is why we are not busy no wonder ripping local business off

Had a leaflet through my door offering one free meal, no terms and conditions added to it. When presented at the time of paying the ownner took the leaflet away and told us it was only for the menu printed inside the leaflet ( obviously we should have been mind readers)! The leaflet was then thrown in the bin and the owner refused to give it us back.. When we argued our point he offered to give us our money back .......too late , we shouldnt have had to argue our point. It left a sour taste in our mouth, especially as locals told us they pointed out his mistake two days ago.......he denied knowing about it. We have an original leaflet from our neighbours , will be taking it to trading standards. Shame this has put a sour taste to some lovely food and great staff.

We hoped for a pleasant break from cooking after a busy day. Such a let down. The chicken pie with chips was the worst restaurant meal I have had in a very long time. The chips had a very unpleasant aftertaste which has stayed with me for the rest of the evening. The "chicken pie" was clearly a compilation of a too-wet filling spooned onto the plate (some of it covered a portion of the chips...a give away) with a puff pastry put on top. The chicken filling was wet and bland. The chips were left on the plate and the pieces of chicken came home for the dog. My wife had the supposed vegetarian risotto. This was equally bland and much of it was left uneaten too. We will not be visiting again.

Went with family yesterday for a birthday meal. The owner took our order but was very miserable when doing so. I asked for a couple of chips instead of my salad and was rudely told no changes to what was on the menu. He continued to take the order with absolutely no customer service skills or politeness whatsoever. When the food came he had missed 3 meals off the order and sent a young waitress to apologise for his mistake. We ordered seperate chips as we weren't allowed to make amendments to the plate, wish I'd not bothered they were disgusting and mostly raw! Also there was a small child going in and out of the kitchen which is not safe or hygienic where food is being prepared.

Sunday lunch for three and an excellent experience all round, with a warm welcome and wonderful serving staff, all of whom were efficient and friendly. Our drinks arrived quickly as did our food, with delicious starters, mains and desserts, all of which more than lived up to our expectations. Our friend said the gammon steak was the best he’d ever had, cooked to perfection and with two delicious runny-yoked fried eggs on top. We’ll definitely be back again soon.

First time here and wanted to try it out as we have booked xmas dinner here and we was not disappointed, the food was great and the atmosphere and surroundings were nice . The staff were very helpful but not in your face as in other pubs . Looking forward now for a great xmas day here but having been here today shall be visiting a bit more often

Gorgeous Sunday roast Beef was awesome and plenty of veg too. The service was quick ans very pleasant. The chef even came put to say hello. We will be back. Thank you Jo and Anne

We had a lovely lunch, food was amazing and staff were very helpful and attentive. Due to one of our party having a vision problem, we asked to move to a different table (in the window so more daylight) which would assist her. The staff were very obliging and moved us without question. We had a lovely time and wouldn't hesitate in recommending The Horseshoe.

Boiled rice with mushrooms and onions. Should have been Mushroom Risotto with a creamy white wine and garlic sauce. Will not visit again.

AN AWFUL & EMBARRASSING EXPERIENCE Don’t even bother…terrible service, virtually just cursory apologies from young staff staff with limited interpersonal conversation skills..…had already waited 1 Hour 15 minutes for food to start arriving at table. Then only two meals out of eight meals ordered arrived at table now waiting more than 5 minutes for next meals to arrive and so far no food for the youngest child in our group who by this time was extremely hungry & fractious. Vegetarian meal ordered for one of our party was pretty poor verging on terrible, both taste and presentation. I blame much of the problems here on this occasion on the management/owners who simply failed to plan failed to recognise their maximum capacity and act accordingly and failed to maintain their standards. Instead their argument was they didn’t expect to be so busy. However instead of saying NO to further arriving unbooked customers, their greed compromised their ability to match expectations to the resources they had available. Staff were unnecessarily stressed, kitchens were over stretched, quality of food and service declined. I have to admit we ate there two weeks ago to check out the place for this important family gathering. On the back of that we then booked for this weekend gone and being comfortably satisfied it would meet expectations. At that time they were not so busy. How wrong I was…it was embarrassing and uncomfortable for front of house staff as well as ourselves who had to chase up or complain no less than four times before eventually speaking to the owner at point of departure and paying the bill. Over all we spent £194 in their establishment. The initial order food bill was £139.80 of which after complaint was reduced by £20 to £120. Had service been better we would probably all have ordered deserts. As it was all we wanted to do is eat and leave. Children needed to go to bed and family guests had travelled from Surrey.

A lovely evening at the horseshoe with good friends. Food as always was excellent. Bar and waitress were friendly and attentive. Highly recommend

I loved the food (ordered gluten free mushroom starter and steak for main) they were delicious! I would definitely come back again. I read bad reviews I'm surprised really as I didn't see any rude staff or the bad food

Walked here with a friend and arrived early, not a problem. Choice of table but were happy to go with the manager's recommendation, near the fire. The young girls serving were really friendly and efficient. House Red was really good and excellent value. We had the garlic mushrooms as a starter and both enjoyed them immensely. I had the roast beef and there was a lot of it, sliced thinly from the bone, no homogonous pieces shipped in. The veg were a bit sloppy, but the roasted potatoes and parsnips were just right. A perfect Sunday lunch experience.

It’s gone to the dogs...we visited for family birthday and oh my what a let down, three of us had steaks all went back to be replaced or revoked..On receiving my second steak I wish I hadn’t eaten it, but as I’d waited for so long and the rest of our group had finished I had no option.. it was probably the worst steak I have ever eaten!!..Others in our group were also unhappy about the food they had received..We have visited several times before but God knows what’s gone on since lock down...We won’t be revisiting even though I didn’t have to pay for my meal. I would not recommend you visit unless there are some big changes made with the quality of produce used and a new chef...Very poor rating

Went here for a meal, as we've been before, and were very disappointed, the starters were poor and not upto there usual standards, calamari was a very small portion and soggy not crispy. the special of chicken kebabs with salad and greek tadziki sauce was terrible, the chicken was smothered in what seemed like bolognese sauce, completely wrong. One of The steak was way overcooked and should have been 8oz , my 5oz one on my mixed grill was bigger, the steaks just tasted burnt, my medium cooked steak was cooked to cremation. And also full of gristle. We had only just finished the starters when they brought the main meals out. Will definitely not be using this place again

Came today for what was suppose to be a nice meal. Service was awful. The manager was rude and the staff were over worked. Constant door bell going off in the background too? I mean, I don’t want to tuck in to me steak thinking my ring doorbell is going off. Came to ‘eat out to help out’ .. clearly isn’t a thing here. Whilst £30 was taken off for three heads, a further £9.26 service charge was added at the end? If I wanted to tip I would do, but If you can’t even crack a smile to your customers you deserve a penny.Lastly- COVID? COVID isn’t a thing at the horseshoe inn. Wasn’t sure if they were passing the drinks of coming in for a kiss. Won’t be back.

Went tonight with some friends to support the eat out to help out. Food was average, main come very fast after our main, we didn’t even have chance to breathe. Felt like they just wanted us to eat and go everything was very rushed! NONE of the staff have ppe on, as the meal went on it was clear that social distancing was in place everyone was very close!When the bill came we should have had £30.00 off £10.00 per head to then find out there was a £10.00 service charge added! Very crafty, I won’t be supporting here again

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner the other night. The food was very overpriced for the quality but since there was a 50% offer on with the “eat out to help out” scheme, it wasn’t too unreasonable. However, I wouldn’t pay that price again for the average food we were served. We also both noticed the disrespect that the manager had towards the waitresses, who all seemed very stressed and over worked. It was not very relaxing to see those young girls being talked to in a rude way. The young girls who served us seemed fed up with the manager. All in all, the food was average and the general customer service wasn’t great either so I wouldn’t rush to come back anytime soon.

We went on the Government offer. We were shown to the table by the man I guessed was the owner/manager - he was so miserable it was untrue. He talked to his staff like they were on the bottom of his shoe. We sat for about 15 minutes before we got up ourselves and went to the bar to ask how we ordered a drink - we were sat right next to the bar. The staff were rushed off their feet and we had to get up and go to the bar each time we wanted a drink. My husband was drinking so he had to buy his beers on the card each time and my soft drinks went onto the bill. I dont know why we had to do it this way as other restaurants seem to cope with putting the alcohol separate. There were no PPE at all. The only thing there was was a piece of perspex around the till. They shouldnt have bothered as they had been in our faces all night.On saying that the food was lovely.

So we arrived at the horseshoe and were taking to a table, we were then told if we choose any of the meal deals you can't claim the government £10 off, which i though was wrong as I had heard on the news that the government max £10 off per head was after any deals or special offers. So we order food from the main menu. When I got the bill I was surprised at the amount, they had put a hidden 10% service charge on the bill, had only taken £20 off a £92 bill, when I questioned the bill they said I was wrong. So when I went to school £92 - £30 =£62 NOT £72. I won't be supporting the horseshoe inn again. On a covid 19 note none of the staff had face masks or visors, people were ordering drinks from the bar, i could not see any signs of a one way system, so compared to other pubs & restaurants i have visited during the inn social distancing & precautions are very poor

Had my dad down from Scotland for a few days so we booked a meal here as we have been here before a few times before we had the table booked for 7.30 at 8.30 the meals just arrived some with stuff on we had not even ordered the lady who was taking the booking at the front of desk and showing us to are table looked like she was chewing a wasp and we where not the only ones who was saying this about her if she cant manage a smile then she should not be in this industry so all in all me and my family will never be going back here the place as gone to the dogs

Great venue for outdoor lunch and play area for children is great. Food reasonable to good.Main concern is the lack of visors or face mask wearing by the landlord and staff, and their lack of social distancing with customers. We will not be returning for this reason.

Arrived at 620pm not too busy ordered drinks which arrived after 20 minutes , ordered starter and main, it’s now 8pm and still waiting for the main to arrive and it’s just two steaks .Must admit the starter was lovey but was it worth the wait mmmm not sure Need to sort out the kitchen wait times before I recommend and come again

I came here with my boyfriend, we both had a main each. I ordered a cajun chicken burger and fries and asked for no cheese, the burger came with cheese on so I sent it back. I was going to send it back again because the fries were also not fries at all, they were more like oven chips, but id already sent it back once and just wanted to eat at this point. The chips were like they were still frozen, very cold on the inside so I only ate a couple. The menu said ‘chips or fries’, I ordered fries and my boyfriends ordered chips and they were exactly the same when they came out. The chicken burger wasn’t nice either and my boyfriends meal also wasn’t. After we started eating he ended up feeling sick and had to go outside for some fresh air. The staff were pleasant, one lady was nice enough to take money off my meal but that doesn’t take anything away from how disappointing the meal was, but that’s down to the chefs. Definitely won’t be returning again, the money taken off the bill as an apology was probably the best thing to come out of the night.None of the staff seemed to be wearing protective masks either which is strange as most restaurants ensure they wear them due to the virus, even the chefs seemed to not be wearing them which was a bit concerning, especially as they’re working with food.

Food is amazing, prices are reasonable and as expected for the quality of food. Service is average - could be improved. Beer was flat (this was a one off I think)

The roast beef was nice, but £10.95 for 2 slices of beef is rather expensive. The two men that were there, am assuming they were managers were rude also very miserable, first visit never again

Pleasant surroundings with a range of well cooked food and reasonable prices. A good range of drinks available with some tasty beers on offer.

Although there are different chefs on a rota (understandable) the food is always “Bob on”. The Cask Ale offering is impressive and of high quality - Ant sees to that! Our “go to” place.

Visited while on a break in Alsager. This was a fantastic find, quite by accident as its not in the main town centre. The welcome was very friendly, ambience nice and relaxing with lovely staff and one in particular Miki, was just delightful. She chatted away and recommended we try one of the specials. The menu is quite varied and plenty of choice. We both opted for the Chef specials, Seabass with a dill sauce and dauphinois potatoes, with seasonal veg. £16,95 Very very good, all fresh, high quality. We had cheese and biscuits to share, 4 cheeses, chutney, grapes, celery and lots of crackers £5,95. We finished with liqueur coffee"s. Super evening, very good home cooked food.

This place is fantastic if you are Gluten free. They have lots and lots to choose from. I had the Homemade Pare and Chicken & Mushroom Risotto. Both delicious. Very friendly welcome. Definitely go again. Highly recommend.

Staff awful, so miserable and unhelpful. Service really slow- after waiting with the menus manager came to the table to take our order and when we tried to order food, he responded that ‘I’m here for your drinks only’. Mains inedible and unfortunately had to send back to the kitchen with improper compensation of a cheap dessert. Only visit if you love everything covered in black pepper. Would definitely not recommend.

I used to drink in this pub before it was upgraded so I have an affinity with it. We have been here several times since and the food is fabulous and the service outstanding.And it was the same this Sunday. Great food, great service and a good atmosphere. Also met some ‘old’ friends from when we had karaoke on a Friday and drinks after Football on Sunday ( 1990’s) Come and have a meal here and u won’t be disappointed.

Went Boxing Day with 3 children having checked that a children’s menu was available which it states on the menu Phoned beforehand because no children’s menu was available on the website specifically for Boxing Day I was told they could choose off the menu published but with smaller portions which we did On paying we were charged full adult price for three kids a £36 increase Queried but then they pulled out the kids Boxing Day menu from under the counter! Scammed!

Very disappointing visit.We went this lunchtime at 12 o clock for a family Boxing Day meal.Booked in November and filled in meals as required.Six adults & 1 child’s , the service was poor, after waiting for about 1/2 hr we finally received our starters of which one was wrong so yet another wait for the right one after which the waitress came and apologised & said that we would have yet another wait for the main course as they had a large party in , however everyone else in our part of the pub had been served there meals & left ,some of which arrived after us .Eventually after another longer wait the meals started to arrive, of which again 2 were wrong not as ordered , when these 2 did finally arrive most of our party had nearly finished there’s . One meal in particular, the veggie sausage & mash was very poor ( what little there was of it ) tasted like packet mash . The desserts however were very nice & best part of the meal . We then went up to pay the bill and were given a bill for £166.60 , which we knew was wrong as should have been £128.65 . This was put right after checking , but with no apology given for error .All in All not as expected , disappointing .

Went here last week for lunch 8 of us. Couldn’t fault it. We ordered a variety of dishes off the menu between us and everyone was happy. Good value and good service. The food was beautifully cooked XX

We have been here many times and had fabulous meals but I don't know if the chef has changed our Xmas meal was terrible a few of us had the salmon which was the smallest tail end with potatoes and no veg when we asked for more veg another bowl of boiled potatoes came with no veg the pie had no meat and was poor quality aswell the dessert was very small and not good at all. We complained but we felt we were not listened to, very disappointed.

Weve been here many times,food always very good. Service however this tim,was poor,with only one waitress on.

Four of us went for a meal, lovely decor inside. All of us ordered a different meal, i had the battered fish and it was very greasy and there was no crisp to the batter it was horrible, the extra portion of onion rings purchased were the same. The other meals were fine but I'd stay away from anything battered shame as it's put me off going back now.

Had Sunday Lunch here with our family group, 8 of us. We hadn't booked until an hour before we wanted to go, but when I rang they said no problem. Tge restaurant was very busy with a lovely ambience. We were seated at a lovely table where our drinks were served promptly. One of our party is Gluten Intolorant but this was fine as they have load of Gluten free options on the menu. Our starters came out quickly, I recommend the chicken gougons, obviously home made, 3 large breast gougons with side salad, really generous portions. Most of the party opted for a roast dinner, I myself had the beef.. It was awesome! Again big portion and the beef was beautiful and tender. Desserts are plentiful too.. Sticky toffee pudding was fab too. Lovely meal. Smashing waitresses and I definitely will visit again in the near future. On another note its great if you have little ones, there is a large play area with chickens and ducks to amuse the kids too.

The only good thing was how easy it was to book a table. There was eight of us eating, three of us unfortunately had the roast beef dinner. The beef was tough and very chewy, yorkshires were tasteless, roasters undercooked. We were given one bowl of veg between four and this wasn’t very warm. Garlic bread was really hard. There was a four year old in the party and her meal was brought out last the mashed potatoes were inedible! The manager/owner was very rude. He complained when we wanted to split the bill usually the norm everywhere. When we mentioned the quality of the food again he was rude and said he had just eaten it. At no point during the meal were we asked if everything was okay. The plastic seat not high chair is inadequate for any child under one. I did say I wouldn’t be returning the owner didn’t care. I certainly wouldn’t go back and will spread the word of this poor service.

Not visited here for a while so thought we’d try it for a bank holiday lunch. Front of house lady is the rudest person I have ever come across, no manners at all, for example answering the phone while already serving a customer. I understand bank holidays are busy, but that’s just plain rude.

Booked in very easily by phone. Lovely greeting on arrival and made to feel very welcome. Offered for us to change table to a more suitable table which was nice. Lovely food and table service was very good. Couldn't finish the whole meal so couldn't fit a dessert in ! Really enjoyed the evening and the cost for three people was very good. Will return soon for sure. We are contemplating booking for New Years Eve.

Came for lunch with my dad midweek, and it’s always been quite average. And same again really just alright. It’s in a nice spot and convenient. The waitress needs to learn how to smile... Don’t order the steak baguette it’s so bad.
