Lovely Quality Pub. Excellent choice of Beers. The restaurant is very good. My wife had the Fish Pie. She said it’s the best she has ever had! I had the Steak Bavette which was also very good. We Will definitely return.

I cannot rate this place highly enough. Four friends - stayed for one night over a weekend and it was just lovely. The rooms are beautiful and extremely comfortable with nice extra touches like Nespresso and pods. The bar is small but cosy, lovely open-fire and a good selection of ales, wines and spirits. The restaurant is lovely. The food is exceptional and reasonably priced, especially for the quality. It was the nicest gnocchi I’ve ever had! We all loved our meal. Breakfast the following morning was also delicious- nice choice and very nice quality. You can tell that the chef(s) have really thought about every aspect of dining here and it’s appreciated. The place was full! The staff are also really friendly and amenable. Highly recommend.

Beautiful and cosy country pub, which was friendly and welcoming. We had a superb meal in the evening, fresh and local produce cooked perfectly. The room we stayed in was lovely, very comfortable bed and nice little touches. Breakfast was excellent. This is a perfect base for walking in the South Downs and exploring the coast.

This is my first ever Trip Advisor review, that's how good this place is! We discovered this little gem driving on the back roads from Havant to Chichester and we were so glad we did. It was my Brother's 32nd birthday and the food and the service itself was exceptional before they even found out! I didn't think it could get any better, I was wrong. I asked if they would pop a candle in a dessert for me, they did this in a beautifully presented sticky toffee pudding. Any questions we had were met with a warm, friendly answer. The chap that served us (perhaps the manager?) Made myself a gorgeous mocktail that wasn't on the menu just because we asked. Honestly couldn't recommend this place enough. We will be returning many times in the future.

We had a very late last minute booking but our welcome could not have been better . Lovely warm establishment with very friendly helpful staff. Room very clean with good facilities and easy parking . Food at breakfast and in the evening was excellent . We would most certainly stay there again and would recommend it to anyone as a very good place to stay. Pat and John

I booked rooms and the restaurant for a family of 6 to celebrate my husband's special birthday. We had a great time, the food and wines were excellent and so were the rooms. We were greeted by really friendly bar staff and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be booking again sometime soon. A point to make, and it's not a criticism, the bathrooms are a little small but very clean and still functional. Thanks to everyone for making our stay feel special.

We were looking forward to our annual Christmas lunch as home workers and we chose the Horse and Groom this year as our venue. However, we were incredibly disappointed with the ambience and the food. Firstly, there were hardly any Christmas decorations inside the restaurant or bar area so it didn't feel Christmassy at all. Secondly, the table had a token gesture of a Xmas dec with a bit of holly and pine cone inside a glass bowl. There were no Xmas crackers. The food was overpriced although the portion sizes were good. We had a beetroot salmon starter which tasted okay but the salmon should have been cut into thinner, more elegant pieces; instead they were thick slices. The turkey special was a large portion but extremely salty to the point of being inedible. The turkey consisted of 3 rolled pieces in parma ham stuffed with stuffing - it was tough, dry and salty. The vegetables and roast potatoes were plentiful but all too salty. The Christmas pudding was tasty although there was a strong herbal aftertaste. On a positive note, unlike the last time we visited here when the waiter reeled off the specials before we had even sat down, the waitress was friendly and polite. Unfortunately, we will not be returning next year for our Xmas lunch because we preferred the venue we visited last year where the food was excellent, the service impeccable and the venue very festive.

Ambience, service and quality of food excellent. Our only criticism is that the Sunday roast was not the largest and could have done with some more vegetables especially as the cost of a roast is at the high end. But quality superb...

Had dinner last night with my wife and my son, the dining room is cosy , lots of beautiful paintings on the walls, the tables are large and comfortable . The service was friendly but professional and the food superb, this is the kind of Gastropub that I love…. You could see every single guests enjoying themselves. Perfect. Lovely beers and outstanding food. The bedroom was clean and comfortable; breakfast was also superb. 6 of us based ourselves here for a walking weekend, the location was perfect in a beautiful area, with Chichester on the doorstep too.

Stayed here for four nights, ate two nights. Rooms are beautiful and very fresh, excellent shower and Nespresso machine in room, All staff were very friendly and attentive. A group of us had food on the last night which was first class. Breakfast was first class. My second time to stay here and hope to return in the future.

The new manager and chef have refreshed the menu and service … both are outstanding. The dressed crab was perfect and the courgette fritters ideal as something to nibble at in the bar.

For the first 20 years of our lives this pub was bleak. Since Claudia and the team have taken over it’s been a game changer. What the team have achieved is unbelievable. The staff are wonderfully chatty and fun .The traditional locals bar is full of animated conversation with its open fire and scrubbed pine tables.This is such a traditional pub with a twist.The food is eorth travelling for - as well as the pub classics there is a constantly changing menu of delicious inventive dishes / my local venison was absolutely delicious.Interesting wine list and dome fine ales.We didnt stay but the rooms look fabulous.The pub is full of interesting original paintings- even in the gents loo and sn enormous bronze horse snd jockey greets you in thr rntrsnce hall.

We decided to revist this restaurant after our first experience, this time with friends. The welcome was very friendly and the staff throughout were very attentive. The food was freshly cooked including the pies, and all very well presented. We couldn't fault anything and will definitely go back again.

We went for lunch during half term following a long walk on West Wittering Beach. 3 of us had the steak and ale pie with chips and gravy with some broccoli and greens - tremendous. Highly recommend, stayed here for one night the room was fantastic, boutique style, very comfortable bed, very clean throughout. What a great Family Celebration we had yesterday. The staff at The Horse and Groom made us feel really welcome, as they had laid out 2 long tables for the 14 adults and 7 children that attended. The children were very well catered for and enjoyed their experience and the adult menu was varied and delicious. Thank you.

We stayed here for one night during the Qatar Goodwood festival. As we were driving from Kent we asked if we could arrive in the morning, have coffee, leave our car and take a taxi to the race course. "Of course, no problem" came the reply and that was pretty much the outstanding characteristics of our stay. Everyone was so positive, so engaging, and anything you wanted to happen, did happen. So having had our day at the races we returned about six o'clock. Check-in was swift and we we were shown to our room. which was on the ground floor (I think they all are) in the newer wing overlooking the garden. A delightful room - well presented (10 out of 10 to Housekeeping) and well equipped. Everything that should work did work. It was also very quiet. The bed was super, super comfy and a great shower room. Dinner was very good although I believe that owing to a shortage of chefs (seems to be a national problem right now) the menu was not as extensive as we would otherwise have seen. A good strategy though in my opinion. The wine list had a good range and was well priced. Breakfast the next morning was equally delightful. Although not racing the next day we would have stayed another night had they not been full. However, that gives us good reason to return - and we will. Well done Gary and Claudia. You're running a great place and I recommend it to anyone

What a wonderful friendly welcome to the Horse and Groom by Claudia and her attentive team on Saturday night when we had dinner there with friends. The new menu that Gary has created is super. Food was perfect (the scallops starter and strawberry cheesecake dessert are not to be missed)!!

We three chose from a fairly small menu (somehow you just know it's going to be good when the menu isn't vast). We all loved everything we had and the service was friendly, efficient and lively. Lovely to take my sister for the first time and to wow her.

Good drinks, amazing food, average service. Maybe was just a bad day for the waiting staff. But I’ve seen more life in a morgue attendant than the two that served us. Didn’t really think they liked the idea that we had kids with us. That is why we booked early at 8. I had one drink the whole meal that was offered at the start. I wasn’t offered again. Which for me is the most annoying thing when out for a meal. That first drink took a while too. But not a bad word to say about the food quality, so maybe just put it down to a bad day for the waiting staff. Def won’t return with kids though as don’t think they were welcome. As another person said, don’t expect a full all singing all dancing menu though, as very limited menu. And 3 of the 5 we’re fish options so if you’re not a fish person then beware. Look forward to a better experience next time as it’s one of my closest pubs

An impromptu visit following a shopping trip in Chichester for my daughters birthday. We were looked after superbly by Abbie who was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and had excellent customer service skills. After our delicious lunch, very unexpectedly staff members came out to my daughter with a birthday dessert and sang to her! It was such a personal touch, it made the visit extra special. We'll definitely be returning.

We visited for lunch with friends. Our food was excellent, everything made from scratch by Gary the chef. We all had the Best steak and Ale pie, everyone had a clean plate! The desserts were amazing and presentation exceptional, even the ice cream is homemade. We are looking forward to going again Abbey our waitress looked after us, as did all the staff. We went with friends and enjoyed a great meal with uniquely composed ingredients - the sweets were to die for and we will go there again. The Porter pie was freshly made and delicious. The pricing was not cheap but the food quality was good.

The outdoor eating area looked beautifully inviting with twinkly lights and overhead heaters. We ordered and all had very good two courses (couldn't manage a dessert). The cheese soufflés were gorgeous as was the chicken pate. The seabass main with mashed potato, samphire & salsa was really good. The spicy lamb pie with chick peas was unusual and the chicken caesar was not a disappointment. So lovely to be back and so local to us too!

If you’re expecting the fine dining experience pictured online and a menu including the likes of hand dived scallops and dexter beef carpaccio prepared to be in for a real shock! This venue serves standard pub food... a far cry from what’s advertised online. This was raised by myself as well as the table next to us - waitress response was that this was a “sample” menu online and simply the food they are striving to create! In terms of the pub food, nice fish & chips and variable starters!

Since the current Lockdown this hostelry has been raising money for Mental Health Charities by producing a remarkable arrangement of baked products available Thursdays to Saturday.Gary - the Chef- has a remarkable talent for producing THE most amazing pies. They're full of 'goodness' and the pastry is so light and flavoursome. His Sausage Rolls are beyond compare, and there's a great range of breads available.We are so lucky to have this team in our locality AND as of this posting they've raised more than £7000 for Charity whilst, deservedly, attracting a lot of local patronage who appreciate what they're doing and enjoy the safely distanced interaction.Congratulations to Gary, Claudia, Chris, and the rest of the great team that make this Hostelry such a wonderful place to visit (outdoors of course) and make a massive contribution to our wonderful community.

We had an excellent time. Food was exquisite and at a great price point. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The rooms were very well done, clean and beds extremely comfortable. Lovely owners and in a fabulous location. Really amazing stay and can't wait to come back again.

After a Winters walk over the South Downs, lunch at the Horse & Groom was just what we needed to rest our feet! What was supposed to be a quick bite to eat turned into a full three-course lunch complete with Gin cocktails as the Christmas Menu looked too good not to try! Our meal was delicious and we could tell everything is home made with fresh ingredients. The Stuffed Christmas Turkey was mouth watering... so good that I forgot to take a photo of it! An impromptu lunch intending to have a light lunch. Got tempted by the menu and ended up with gorgeous mains! So nice to be back eating in restaurant again and seeing the measures put in to creating a warm inviting outdoor area, I can’t wait to eat there again with friends. Well done to all the staff who are intent on making customers feel safe and content.

As always the restaurant was cosy with a lovely roaring fire in the bar. Our table in the restaurant was lovely and next to a radiator and the atmosphere was gorgeous. The new menu featured turkey breast wrapped with parma with stuffing and accompanying vegetables and roast parsnips and potatoes - not forgetting fresh cranberries - wow!!! Can't wait to return on Christmas Eve or before.Additionally, we noticed the garden had cover from the rain, twinkly lights and heaters - what more could you ask for.

We returned to the Horse & Groom with some friends and were able to eat outside on a table of six in their new heated garden in accordance with Tier 2 rules.Its very cosy but wear warm clothes.Great atmosphere,fabulous Christmas decorations and just what we needed after another month of lockdown.

We just spent three nights here. The accommodation is lovely, the food amazing and the bar welcoming. Claudia, Gary and their staff are doing a wonderful job, highly recommend you pay them a visit!

We received another friendly covid safe welcome and our booked table waited for us in the very bright and cosy restaurant at the back of the pub on a gloomy day for another family get together of 4. We all had starters and we all had trouble choosing which one as the menu was different from only a week or so again and every starter looked tempting. The twice baked soufflé, the chicken pate & onion relish and my mackerel starters were genuinely all equally gorgeous, beautifully presented and freshly cooked. For the second time I ordered the fishcakes as a main which are served in a lovely sauce with crispy hot freshly cooked chips, my son had the rib eye steak which he would have preferred a little less cooked as he had asked for rare but having said that he commented it was very juicy and tender nevertheless, my mother-in-law loved her sea bream dish and my husband raved about his chicken & leek pie on mashed potato with gravy - absolutely fantastic occasion, food and definitely our new favourite restaurant in Chichester which definitely equals Minnie's Kitchen in Southsea ... wow!!!

I had a hugely enjoyable Friday dinner with friends.Great food and an interesting (and good value) wine list. The Covid-19 regulations are difficult for staff and customers alike but I thought they did a great job. Love the decoration,atmosphere and warm welcome.

Quiet impressed with the entrance, and the area that we were seated. But my friends asked if they any cushions, to raise the seating on the high tables,. We were given, two black bags with cushions in them. We took the cushions out so we could sit on them, but were told by the waiter, that they wanted the cushions left in the black bags, as they did not like to have to keep washing the cushions. Now let's face it sitting on plastic makes you sweat profusely, ( what when your eating your lunch).This was not looking very promising,.We ordered, food came, portions not large, but over priced.Before I was able to finish my meal, which was a large steak pie, which I enjoyed, very tasty, I had to be excused. That was the end of my very expensive meal and lunch.Although this was very good venue. I dont think we will be going back

Popped in for a drink on the afternoon of Monday 5th October and was very surprised we had to go to the bar and no table service being offered.It is quite clear in the new regulations that table service is mandatory and not an option!!

Early dinner and all worked out very well. Food was delicious and very filling. Complete change from last time 10 +years ago, great refit, felt very relaxing and comfortable. I would highly recommend this pub/restaurant for a special meal out.

Whilst the food is excellent, if rather too expensive, please carefully check the flavour/ingredients of your ordered ice cream, especially if you have a nut allergy! The other day I ordered my favourite coffee ice cream. When I started to taste the ice cream it was clear it was a nutty, possibly Hazelnut, ice cream. I sent it back and over heard the chef saying they had run out of the coffee ice cream!! So why did he serve an alternative ice cream, especially a nut based, to the customer without mentioning? It then reminded me that 2 weeks ago I was dining at this pub when my friend also ordered coffee ice cream but remarked that it tasted nutty with no coffee flavour. I feel this is appalling of the chef considering quite a few people suffer from nut allergies. This must be rectified immediately by the Management!
