My wife’s aunt and cousin enthused about this pub so we decided to have lunch with them on a Thursday in November. The pub is signposted from the main road and is down a narrow lane to Chidham with passing places at intervals. The car park at the back is not so large so many visitors seem to park in the village. Virtually every table was taken which is always a good sign for mid week dining. The four of us had a variety off of dishes and my seafood tagliatelle was delicious. We were very impressed with the speed of service from the two lovely ladies and lively atmosphere of the pub. The portions are quite large so if you have a smaller appetite we would recommend their small portion menu. My wife’s cousin recommended the mussels which were not on the menu the day we visited so we must return to try them. A very enjoyable lunch catching up with old friends too.

The food and drink was nice enough, the evening was only spoiled by one of the older staff members objectionable, rude attitude that was evident as soon as we walked in and reading through the comments other people have made , this seems to happen regularly. Disappointing.

Really friendly staff, large enough to groups but also small enough to feel cosy and friendly, nice options on the menu and the specials were also great. The food was spot on and couldn’t faulted. My comment from my partner was there is no syrup for coffee was the only bad point !

We arrived on the off chance of a table for lunch, wonderful welcome. Show to our table and given the menus …wow too much choice. We chose our meals and drinks and sat and watched the place fill up really quickly. Our food arrived fairly quickly and it was delicious, service was excellent and the pub very clean and tidy. We look forward to our return when next in the area.

Firstly , my husband and parents food was fine .I am a vegetarian , was very limited choice , no vegan option at all , which in this day and age , I can not believe. I ordered the quiche .It arrived , with very under cooked pastry .The waitress apologised snd said she would get me another .Next one came , pastry was burnt on top underneath still unfortunately still raw . They took my meal off of the bill .At £18 I expected a lot more I must say . Sorry to say , we will not eat here again .We are local so would come for a drink as lovely pub and garden Would definitely not recommend for Vegetarians or Vegans !

So glad we popped in today - were passing on a hot walk and on a whim tried our luck. It is such a lovely pub and in a gorgeous, quiet country setting. Managed to get a table for lunch and the food was excellent - brilliant specials and great portions. Service was fab, friendly and super quick - nothing was too much trouble even for dairy-free and a walk in! Gemma and Sarah in particular were just brilliant. Will definitely be back!

Great location and outdoors beer garden, been there a number of times and food was good even if a bit pricey. Latest visit however was my last, within a minute of walking in and at the first suggestion we were after some food was immediately and sternly refused being served food as too busy and understaffed. The only offer was to wait 30-45 minutes and then they would see if they could serve us, no guarantees they would. Can't say I noticed the place particularly packed with customers and finding a table was not the problem. I always find it hard to stomach being treated in this manner when as a paying customer I'm made to feel like being such a burden and I'm the one who should be grateful for being served, seems to be completely the wrong way around. I took my money and custom elsewhere nearby where I felt much more welcomed and had a lovely meal, and that's where I will go in the future.

First class food, good service, great value. We visited for a birthday lunch and were really happy with the whole experience. Chosen almost at random, for its good reviews, sample menu and location. Definitely a place to revisit. Even on a Tuesday lunchtime the pub was busy so booking is highly recommended.

Great food excellent service make sure you book just in case, you don’t want to miss out on this. We popped in for coffee lunchtime and booked for the evening. Pint of Sussex Best 👍 I had the battered Haddock, mushy peas , tartare sauce, chips. Perfect! Then Apple and blackberry crumble with custard again perfect. Service impeccable, quick service attentive not intuitive and great value. This is how you should run a restaurant/pub. Very welcoming.

A lovely old pub in a cute village in a beautiful unspoilt part of the Sussex coastline. I have been a few times with my husband, following a nature walk by the sea. This is since I discovered Chidham by starting work in the area. I have always struggled a little with their menu. I have been vegetarian for a long time, but I also have an intolerance to cheese, so I am seeking out the usual vegan option. I have also previously asked about milk alternatives in coffee - they had none. This time, as previously, I decided to request the gammon/egg/chips (& peas) without the gammon. Last time, this was done with quite good grace, an extra egg but no price reduction - but everything was cheerful. This time, my husband possibly over-explained my nutritional requirements when ordering. He was met with an icy stare from the chef. My food came, an extra egg and some chips. No peas. My husband went in to try to get vinegar, was promised some would be brought out. None came. The plates were cleared without a word of asking how our meal had been. Clearly this pub doesn't want or need my business. They won't get it again.

Visited as a couple for Sunday lunch. The pub itself is just lovely - a proper old pub tastefully decorated. Ordered the nut roast and roast chicken. The portions were very generous. The food was very good -not outstanding - but very good and the service was excellent. The meal was served quickly and requests for extra gravy accommodated without fuss. A good pub lovely atmosphere. Enjoyed very much.

Oh dear. What a massive disappointment. The Old House has always been our go to pub for a reliably good meal, ultra friendly, professional staff and great atmosphere. Yesterday it failed on all three, I’m sad to say. Roast beef looked lovely, but was tough and chewy. Plaice arrive with pats of butter, but was virtually cold so the butter couldn’t melt! Uneven cooking made some parts under and some over. All very unsatisfactory. We’d ordered some olives to start, and after ten minutes asked if we could have them, and we’re abruptly told…they’ll be here when they’re ready… The staff were busy but seemed out of their depth. So far removed from the the chatty, sassy and efficient team we were used to. Last straw was our bill of £167 was plonked on the table with a request to move out within 5minutes to accommodate the next booking. A really poor show all round. I feel so sad for this previously wonderful pub. I hope it’s just a temporary blip.

We called in for a cup of coffee. When the first cup arrived, it was only around half full, asked if it could be topped up, and was told no, as it was made by the machine. The second cup arrived, a little more in the cup, but not a full cup, by any standards. When we tried our coffee, it was COLD. When we returned the cups of coffee to the bar, we were told, they would top them up with hot water. Coffee was weak as it was, so we declined. No offer of another cup being made.

Came here with friends for dinner and a catch up. Seated at our pre-booked table, wedged in a corner, with the neighbouring tables occupants almost sharing the same table! Ordered our starters and mains. It was only just after our mains had been served, that we noticed the table next to us had been given boards detailing the specials. When we asked the waitress why we hadn't been offered the specials, furthermore that we would have had some of the specials had we known, all we got was 'ah, never mind' and other meaningless statements. It was only on her fourth sentence she muttered the word sorry. That should have been the first thing out of her mouth! Suffice to say, our friends who had been before, said they would not return and neither will we. Rude, surly staff, with bad attitudes!

Tonight we were disappointed by The Old House at Home, after being customers for the past ten years. Firstly we were not offered the specials board, so thought there were not being served this evening, but I struggled to find anything I really wanted to eat from the main menu, and when the food came much was uninspiring and mediocre. When I saw that other tables had been offered the specials I asked why we had not, and it took three sentences before our server apologised. Eventually I was offered a chance to change my dish, but after we’d all be served and started our food: we all should have done so since the only person happy with his meal was the person who chose the steak. The scampi was a very small serving, the plate filled with limp salad and lots of chips. One of us chose the vegetarian curry which appeared to have been made with left-over vegetables, and he has been unwell this evening. After recommending the place over the years, we shan’t be returning, especially since there was not even a small token such as a coffee to apologise for their failure.

Visited Sept 23 lovely pub in a rural location good selection of beers and wines and friendly polite service, ordered the roast beef dinner at £17.95 each, the food arrived hot and nicely presented, unfortunately we were both totally underwhelmed by the portion size two very small slices of beef a third of it was fat, two roast potatoes under done, Yorkshire pudding and a small seperate plate of vegatables to share consisting of a few carrots, small portion of cabbage, cauliflower, and two slices of leek, this is probably the poorest roast beef lunch I've ever had the misfortune to be served, I've paid a lot less at a local carvery and been served better food, if your thinking of visiting here please do but stay away from the roast beef lunch it's apauling

We dropped into The Old House at Home for lunch to break a long journey. We were very pleasantly surprised by the friendliness and helpfulness of the bar staff since we arrived close to their lunch cut off time. We enjoyed an excellent meal each. My husband went for the home made pie, which, even for him, was far too much to get through. I loved my hot smoked salmon and prawn salad. Washed down with some real ale. The full menu had plenty of yummy choices. Husband had an ice cream after, which he thought was the best he had tasted in a while. We will definitely go back. We were four adults and three children all from the same family, so in our bubble.. They didn't want to serve us and said I'd booked it wrong and the table was for six and they couldn't do it for seven. We shall be back! The pub is in a charming old building in a wonderful location, with tables outside at the front, and a pleasant garden at the back. We had done a long walk along the footpath that runs along the beach around the scenic Chidham peninsular, and arrived hungry and thirsty. There was a short wait to get in, but only because management had evidently taken their Covid-19 precautions seriously, with a one-way system etc. It was good to see that there was still an impressive range of beers. The menu is not as extensive as it was before (at least, that was my perception), but enough on it that we all found something we wanted. And the food was very good.It is reassuring to know that they can still deliver that authentic country-pub experience, with a fine selection of drinks, and food that just hits the spot. Well recommended.

Just arrived at the pub, knowing that it was going to be rammed, being a hot Saturday. Imagine our delight when, turning up after a long walk at 5 to 12, we found no queue and loads of seats inside and out. We had a seafood platter each and sat inside. Service was excellent as was the food. I think some people should give pubs a bit of slack before they weigh in with criticism. We didn't even expect to get a drink, let alone food.Toilets were extremely clean and all Covid measures were being implemented. We thought all the staff were extremely friendly and very reassuring.

My three guests and myself all had a very good meal but as it was so hot on Friday my guests wanted to get outside to cool off.So After asking after waiting quite a while for the bill, paid it and left with out checking correctness only to find two pints extra charged, when getting home.Normally service is very Good but on this occasion it lacked any real substance. If I visit again I will be sure to check each item on the bill before paying.

Lovely meal with friends felt a real effort had been made to keep both staff and customers safe. Good menu choice with interesting vegetarian choices. Food was perfect, I choose the Morrocan lamb and Peach Melba. They are offering the discount for eating Mon to Wed in August. The only criticism was that I'd phoned and changed the time of our booking and it hadn't been noted but no problem to accommodate us.

We were recommended to try this pub and we have been twice recently .The first time we just had a drink ,but the second time we had a lunch .It is a fairly small pub situated in a narrow road but there is parking behind and along the road in front of the pub. There is a lovely garden and a few tables at the front .The food was very good and was served by friendly staff and the menu is varied. There is a good one way system at the moment meaning you have to walk through the pub after ordering and walk through the garden if you are sitting at the front of the pub.It is a quaint pub and well worth a visit .

Lovely garden and good food as always. Marred only by a stressy manager when we visited for an early evening meal - setting a rather grumpy tone with regard to the service from several of the staff. Maybe they are all finding covid measures a strain but having booked for four and a baby we were not made to feel especially welcome. Another pub we visited the day after on our little break was managing things rather better. We will wait a while and give them another try as it is a great country pub.

Post lockdown, one is never sure how pubs are going to be. The Old House seems to have it right. Hand sanitiser on entry, a sign asking one to wait outside if there is a queue at the bar. Once in you can order as usual at he bar (staff are behind a perspex screen). We ordered a falafel salad (vegan) and two Hampshire steak burgers. The salad was lovely and very fresh and generous, the steak burgers were heaven! Full of wonderful juices, cooked just to perfection, clean dry chips and a decent garnish as well. A very decent supper in his light, clean country pub.

This was my first visit. The food was very good and the waiting staff friendly. I was very pleased to see good Covid practice with staff wearing masks and social distancing measures in place. The car park was packed (Tuesday lunch) so had to park in the road, but that was no problem.Thoroughly recommend esp If able to eat in the garden on a sunny day.

We ate at lunchtime. I had the seafood platter which was really tasty - the potted crab and anchovies were particularly nice - with plenty of seafood. So much so that I asked for extra ciabatta. My wife had the Caesar salad which she enjoyed very much. We shared the pecan pie and ice cream pudding which was really good. The pub has worked hard to ensure covid measures are implemented and we felt very comfortable with the environment. And the garden really is lovely. There are brilliant walks from the pub with nice views of Bosham and lots of birdlife

This pub is still up to scratch and worth a visit. I have called in once a year for the past 30 years. Well run, attentive staff, food choice immense from 3 different menu's, food served very good indeed. Pricey which is normal for this area. Real ale was £4-55 a pint, also way over the average but normal for this part of the affluent south-coast. I visited the the pub for a meal on a Wednesday evening in Mach, having pre-booked, and at 7pm, the car-park was full. It is popular. Especially with the pension-pot spending over 65's. Pie & pint night on a Wednesday represents good value and it was a pleasant and filling meal. Bar staff are very affable and helpful. No obtrusive music in the background either. Recommended but pre-booking for a table to eat is always essential.

Beautiful country pub with charming staff and nice menu - two course lunch very reasonably priced . Slightly spoilt by a couple with a very badly behaved dog - or should I say bad mannered owners who decided to sit next to us.

Been going to there for over 20 years every couple of months. Arrived at the time specified as we had a dog asked for a table away from the main door. Got a table next to the door! Luckily? The place was nearly empty (unusual) so we changed tables. Food ordered I asked for the lamb told sold out so my partner and I had the pork. Food duly arrived quantity was huge however, quality had long since departed. The roast potatoes seemed to be the pre frozen variety and the pork was a uniform shape and size even the thickness of each slice was exactly the same! Veggies were good with a great mini selection. Yorkshire puds were burnt. Did not enjoy the pork and potatoes tasted processed. Dessert wise OK although the pots the custard came in have been consigned to the skip it seems. Just a large dollop in the bowl. Paid our bill £45. Just then local couple came in asked for the lamb and lo and behold lamb was available.Staff were on the whole more interested in talking to the local builders/fishermen/farmworkers than actually paying attention. One shining light was a more mature lady who could not have been more helpful. Blond barmaid it seems was there to mainly chat to the locals.A once great pub and eating place sliding into obscurity

Visited today for Sunday lunch at 12 pm and a good catch up with friends, had a lovely roast lunch and great service,We had coffee and asked for the bill payed up,and about five ministers later was asked to leave as the table was wanted for other diners and this was only 2.15 pm,So I guess the answer is —when meeting friends eat slowly and chat so you don’t get shoved out as soon as you have paid!! Very disappointing and our bill was £150 so not cheap,

Chef Ravi rose magnificently to the curry challenge! I managed to down about half my venison and prawn curries, served with rice and condiments, but luckily my companion finished his grilled skewer and demolished the rest. Terrific to have authentic Indian food available in Graffham (on special request). Bravo to the the White Horse for extending its excellent range.

So disappointed by this place . First visit and won’t be returning! Ordered Avo on sourdough with poached eggs . Asked for the eggs to be well done . It wasn’t sourdough but cheap white bread . Eggs were runny so asked them to redo . 2nd attempt the eggs were still runny so my partner ate it . Large coffees ordered and just a normal sized cheap mug and not very hot . £17 totally wasted . We also ordered a croissant which was the only thing acceptable. Customer service - zero! Young staff who don’t care , smile or make u feel welcome . They need training asap or replacing . Us customers pay their wages - at least earn if . Doesn’t cost anything to be helpful or to smile . Will NOT be returning .

Visited here for afternoon tea. Welcome was ok, but then we waited for a while to see if there was a free table. Bizarrely no one else was in the cafe and the upstairs service where we were seated was almost unfriendly and you felt you were in the way. When we asked for a spoon for our tea we were greeted with a huff and puff… Gets good reviews elsewhere, but sadly not from us..
