Thank you to Ruth and all the staff at The Cricketers. My family hired the lovely function room, to have my mum's Memorial get together today. My family and I had a lovely afternoon, even though the weather could of been better. Your garden was so peaceful, and we all went out and looked at your chicken/hen coup. The food and service was great. The whole experience was just perfect. We are grateful. Kind regards, The Shine family. ❤❤❤

After a 30 mile ride on the South Downs in the glorious Autumn sunshine, you need sustenance, and. a comfortable seat for one’s derrière! The Cricketers provided this in spades, with a Steak, Ale and Mushroom pie (one of those proper ones with a thick pastry top and bottom (Not soggy!!) freshly cooked veggies and cheesy chips Yummy!! 🤤. Rounded off with Profiteroles and cream!! A perfect spot for a meal or a beer after a day out.

After a lovely walk in the countryside the 4 of us decided to have some refreshments here. What a beautiful garden this pub has. We shared two pizzas between the four of us which were obviously hand made, excellent oh and the Eton Mess was to die for. The staff are quite young but also very professional. Can't fault this place. Will definitely be returning in the future.

Superbly placed pub for exploring the South Downs National Park. Lovely ambience and atmosphere. Great food and drinks options. Expansive woodland garden at the rear with many individual tables/seating to choose from. There is plenty of off-road parking at the front. Accommodation is super clean and so relaxing. Private entrance, en suite. Very comfortable beds. Super quiet at night. Small fridge in room with fresh milk, water, fruit (oranges/apples). Also, cereals, bowls, cutlery. A lovely selection of teas, coffee sachets, etc, too. Even a fan, for a hot evening. Host Ruth is lovely, as are all the bar staff. Service is impeccable, too! And the breakfasts... well, they are really lovely 😍 👌 Perfect, in fact. Fresh coffee in a cafetiere, fresh juice too. Thank you, Ruth 👍 Excellent value for not just the accommodation with breakfast, but for the food and drink too. A testament to a thriving pub is that we stayed midweek, and it gets busy in the evenings, but in a good way. Pleasant atmosphere, nice people, relaxing and not so busy that you can't get good, attentive service. All in all, it is a great place to relax, unwind, and be brilliantly placed for exploring Petworth (and Petworth House) [10 minutes by car], or Arundel [20 minutes by car], or further afield into West Sussex and beyond. I can only highly recommend this destination. It is how a pub/accommodation provider should be run.

Absolute gem of an inn, with interesting sporting history - if you like cricket, anyway! The pub is very welcoming - every member of staff is friendly, courteous and helpful and the approach is to make a stay or visit relaxed and pleasant for guests. The location is ideal for access to much of West Sussex and is itself set in rolling hills. Beer on tap is good, properly priced too; evening food is the right menu for a pub and the main ingredients are locally sourced, including trout from the very nearby fishery. The sirloin steaks are high quality and cooked to perfection. Breakfast options include full English and it’s also really good food. Accommodation is slightly quirky with two rooms in a recently converted brew house - the standard is very high for an inn. Parking plentiful, access easy, plenty of tables with a nice garden to the back of the building. A great stay, nothing to dislike at all.

Chanced our luck when we were passing, without a booking, on a miserably wet evening. The lady behind the bar was very happy to serve us & offered us a table next to the fire- bliss! We were pleasantly surprised to see meals for £12/13. For pubs in this area, in the current climate, they were the best prices we've seen for a long while. They offered really good traditional English food. I love pie and I'm so often disappointed by a caserole a dish with a puff pastry lid on it. This was a slice of proper shortcrust homemade pie which was huge. It was delicious and came with generous helping of potatoes & fresh veg. My husband had sausages with bubble & squeak which was also excellent. Very pleased to find this pub & looking forward to coming back!

Booked a table night before turned up to be told by bartender that he would squeeze us in so not happy to start with. Ordered drinks and picked up a menu. Drinks delivered to table and we ordered. 10-15 minutes later waitress came over to ask if we would like to order. Explained we thought we already had. Bartender came over not once but twice to confirm our order. Seeing other people who had come in after us getting food questioned what was happening to be told the fish stew took longer to cook but food would be ready in 10 minutes. After 20 minutes still no food. Told bartender we were leaving, without paying for drinks, his attitude was that’s up to you but your food will be next. Left. Landlady came out to us in the car park and tried to persuade us to come back in eventually admit bartender had not put our order through when we ordered. Offered us the food as a takeaway. No charge .Accepted burger for my daughter who was upset. Just bad staff won’t be visiting again

Quite simply an excellent pub, probably my favourite one around! On previous occasions I've sat in the lovely garden but, as we did tonight, I especially enjoy sitting in the bar area during winter when there's a roaring fire going as it's so cosy and atmospheric feels like a 'proper' pub. This evening I popped in for dinner with a friend - the barman (I think I heard someone call him Alex) is an absolute credit to the pub, really friendly and attentive service. The food was delicious and the portions were large. No complaints at all (although I would like to request the return of the chicken and chorizo ciabatta you had on the lunch menu a few years ago!)

We hadn't booked and the staff said we were welcome to say IF we could find a table. We went out to the back garden and there were a family leaving so we settled down, brought drinks and watched as the one person who was bringing out food, walked past us several times - and the table was still full of the previous peoples' meals & drinks. We piled them up & made the person aware, but he seemed very rushed off his feet. We managed to get a menu after returning to the bar and were told it was going to be over an hour wait for food as they were too busy and as we hadn't booked - they weren't' expecting others to want to eat. Despite the seemingly negative attitude of the lady behind the bar - we ordered some food & enjoyed spending time with friends in the garden until our food arrived - which was very welcome after the wait! When our food was brought over, that was when the table was cleared - we did feel quite sorry for the young person as he seemed overwhelmed with it being just him, but he just kept going so should be given kudos for that. We will return but will book a garden table next time in advance. The garden is dog friendly, which was fantastic as brought 2 Newfoundlands who enjoyed the shade, the bowls of water left out for visiting dogs, and the attention from other adults & children.

Apologies but I cannot believe the comments about the food here. I ate here for dinner and then lunch and the food was of a very basic quality. The location is lovely and the staff were very friendly but this food is arguably £3/4 overpriced at least for what you get.

Took almost an hour to get food, no updates, apologies or explanations, charged for drinks we never had, again corrected with no apology, food mediocre at best (super watery sauce with mussels; tasteless seafood gratin). Staff were inattentive and we had to reach out to them almost every time, usually found them in the bar which was near empty, pub/restaurant was overall at perhaps 30% capacity, so being busy no excuse. Hopefully we just visited on a very slack day… Great garden and pub in itself, other customers main courses looked decent and arrived quicker.

Soup arrived containing sprigs of herb- choking risk. Croutons were soft. Main course just tasted like an experiment! Pork, Parsnip Pear with sprigs of herb and sliced lemon peel. The beef in the sandwich was impossible to eat because the 'topside' (I doubt it was) was so tough, you couldn't bite through it. And the chips are either oven chips (not acceptable) or very old chips that were cooked the day before and left somewhere to drain off.

Our meals were very good and came within a reasonable time. When it came to ordering desserts we were told could be a little wait, which they apologized. To be fair their was just the two serving at bar and waiting on tables so a busy time which I thought they coped with well.

Had lunch here. Five meals from blackboard. Very very average and over priced. Extremely small salad to accompany two underwhelming fish cakes. Two average fish and chips for high price. Two other meals also disappointing. Didn't complain as our guests from abroad first experience of fish and chips and would have embarrassing.

We have just spent the weekend at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and just by chance stopped on the first morning for breakfast and every other morning. The quality of the food and friendly owners really made it so much so that we stopped every evening for a meal and a few local beers.

A great pub with great food! Our walking group had lunch there recently, they had opened so that we could pre-order before our walk started which was great, so when we came back at lunch time all we had to do was pay for our food, confirm our order and wait for it to be served! Our food arrived together even though we were a large group with diverse orders, very nicely presented and generous portions. The sandwiches were well filled with garnish on the side and the cooked meals looked delicious. Lovely gardens to sit in and really nice and friendly staff - definitely well worth a visit.

A warm welcome when we arrived, great choice and quality of food, really well conditioned ale (Flower Pots), great service, great garden. We were a party of 8 adults and 1 child and everyone enjoyed their meal, not a single gripe - I don't think that has ever happened before!

We usually get great food and great service here, over the last 10 years it’s been fab. The other day we arrived to eat in the evening for 4 of us. The pub was half full but all the tables had reserved on them except the round table for 4 at the bar, which 2 staff where busy folding napkins. No smile or greeting from them just a no you will have to eat outside. I have spent a fortune with you over the years you even ordered 4 32 oz steaks 4 lobsters and a special champagne I wanted without a deposit, all cooked to perfection I might add, see previous reviews and pictures. Tonight We had to pay for our beer no tab, and then we had to pay in full for our food and sit outside because the staff wouldn’t give up there seat. It was so cold outside after 10 minutes we came in and as the staff had finally finished folding napkins we sat at the round table. We then enjoyed a most magnificent meal and left. Usually I leave between 15 %and 20 % as a tip, this time as we had to pay in advance nothing was left. £20 out of your pay because you couldn’t greet a customer or be servile to them. I hope this is just a one off as I rarely give less than 5 stars.

I took my elderly disabled father for pint and sandwich but arrived at 12.15 to be told no sandwiches were available given they advertise ‘brunch’ bacon or sausage sandwich til 12! My disabled dad is 84 and in wheelchair they said we needed to order off main menu! He is diabetic so had very expensive poor quality soup! Don’t bother with this pub their customer service is rubbish we were told we needed to leave table which is only one my dad could access which wasn’t booked by1.15pm as it was reserved!AVOID!!!

I was part of a large walking group visiting the area. We had preordered our meals, but were still delighted (and surprised) at how punctual the service was, and the really high quality of the food. Very friendly helpful staff too. Greatly recommended

The pub were kind enough to call me and offer a Mother’s Day booking after they had a cancellation. I hadn’t been to the Cricketers before so was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by such a friendly and welcoming bunch, with the lovely log burner warming up the bar area on a chilly day. The food we had was lovely, and with really good-sized portions we all left full to the brim! I had beef which was delicious and tender, and the coq au vin was also excellent. Desserts were equally superb, especially the affogato, and throughout the meal, service was spot on from lovely, attentive staff. I can’t wait to return and try some more of the food on offer. Great pub with excellent food, thoroughly deserving of 5 stars.

What a treat when travelling from London. Just been here for the second time and not disappointed. A lovely fresh ale to accompany the best ploughman’s lunch ever. Loads of it and a lovely variety of food on the plate, we sat outside overlooking the lovely gardens and were very lucky to have a warm sunny day. How many pubs do you go to where the staff would come out to the garden to ask if everything is ok. It’s cosy inside too with a real log fire, nice seating, prompt service and a good variety of ales. Parking is really easy as it is set well back from the road behind a grassy island. They keep chickens so you know the eggs are fresh.

This was my first visit to the pub having had it recommended by a friend. Lunching with three others: the menu was varied; the four different mains we ordered were substantial, well cooked and well presented; the staff were friendly and obliging. I can't fault it.

We popped in for lunch on one very very very wet and windy Wednesday in March. The fire was lit and the lady behind the bar had a beaming smile and made us feel so very welcome on such a horrid day outside.

What a lovely cozy place in a prime location in the Cotswolds. Affordable food and drinks. Excellent price-quality ratio. Room is cozy, just okay. The downside is a bit cramped and some noise from the pub, but that also has its charm. The area is beautiful, you can walk to Arlington row. We will definitely come back someday.

This is a super little pub, tucked away. Very popular, you really need to book. Staff are friendly Friends said the food is amazing and it looks lovely. Check the opening times as they only open certain days. My only issue is that like may other pubs they serve Fevertree which I hate with a passion as its sweet and has a particular taste which I find invasive.

We booked last minute on the day. When we arrived the place was very busy and I thought we would have a long wait to be served, but no we were served almost straight away and did not have long at all to wait for our food. We had roast dinners and they were very nice, the beef was tender and served with lovely fresh vegetables, roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding and tasty gravy.

Inexplicably cancelled our room booking and Booking.com refunded. No communication as to why. Irritating as it was for Goodwood and was only a few weeks’ notice and the room had been booked many months back. Luckily managed to find somewhere else at short notice. Don’t take bookings that you don’t honour.
