Fantastic ! New owner I believe, a lady called Cheryl ? First time anyone has ever spoken to me in this pub. Food was good before but it’s gone up a notch to excellent. Obviously you’ll get the odd moaner who doesn’t like change - just go in for yourself and find out - massive transformation

Popped into TJ on day 2 and 3 of a new landlady. First day made very welcome by the staff. Day 3 popped in for a a pint, new landlady comes out and gives everyone a little bowl of olives, thought how nice. However, me, older local chap stood at bar totally ignored. What an uncaring unobservervant person. Don't think she will last long. Have been using the pub for decades.

A real shame that service was extremely poor when the food was actually alright. Attitude of bar maid/waitress was appalling regardless of the wait on food which appeared to be near on 45 minutes to an hour, the waitress should not be so aggressive. Real shame she spoilt our first time experience at this oldie worldie pub. Will not be recommending or visiting in future.

So a group of four popped in for lunch today. The wait was ridiculous. One meal came out and was eaten then after that the 2nd meal was eaten. Waited another 20 mins and asked for the next two meals and was told plating up. One of our party went into to get a couple more drinks and waited 5 mins and had to call the pub to get someone out. When the bar maid came out she was polishing of some food. We then waited longer and asked for the food again and the bar maid was very aggressive and rude. If we were communicated too this would have defused the whole situation! What has happened to customer service these days!!

My daughter and I had the Sunday Roast which was very good and my young granddaughter had a burger from the kid’s menu. We all enjoyed our meals very much and I was really pleased to see that they had the option for a smaller portion. I think this is such a good idea as not everyone has a huge appetite and it saves unnecessary food waste. The staff were pleasant and obliging and the service was good too. All in all, a very good experience and I hope to visit again soon.

We're staying at the adjacent campsite & went into the pub restaurant last night for dinner. The service is attentive & the food was absolutely delicious. We shared a portion of brie for starters (which was more than enough for 2)... this starter was 'to die for'! I had a burger & chips main, & hubby had the lamb shank. Again, both were beautifully cooked. Needless to say, we've booked in for Saturday night dinner. Thanks, Anne & Marko

Had to take half home it was so big. The steak burger was the best I have ever had and came with a lot of chips and Mexican Chipotle sauce. I thought it was 1,000 island so found it a bit hot for me but very nice though. The garlic cheese bread was also fantastic and a good sized portion. Washed down with a lovely refreshing large glass of Pinot Grigio wine. We have been here a few times over the years and it never disappoints.

The Traveller's Joy is a lovely, traditional pub, popular with locals which is always a good sign as well as tourists. The young team are very friendly and efficient and the food whilst not fancy is good. What I would like to see is some investment by the brewery, Fullers. New glasses are needed as many in use are marked, as if not clean. i would defy anyone to balance a drink on the wonky picnic tables and dead hanging baskets are not a good look! Even so, we will continue visiting this lovely pub.

There was a warm welcome and attentive service. This pub appears to have regular customers. My partner had fish and chips and I had the fish pie. The fish pie didn't look much like any fish pie I've had in the past - there was a heavy layer of cheese across the top - but it was tasty and the spinach still had texture which I like (i.e. just wilted not soggy). My partner's fish and chips was not so good. It looked fabulous but the reality was very thin fish - so that was overcooked - and overly thick batter which was undercooked. Chips needed a lot more cooking. And a lack of seasoning for both dishes. So come here for a pint and a chat with friendly staff (although at least one of them had been drafted in from another pub) but perhaps go home for lunch. I note though that the 'restaurant' side of the pub (exact same food) was very busy so perhaps they all knew to avoid the fish and chips.

We were staying nearby and after checking the reviews we chose the Traveller's Joy. We had a friendly welcome and we're shown to a table, the server brought us menus and took a drink order, we ordered some food. I chose the sausage and mash and my wife decided to have fish and chips. So far so good, but then we had a long wait for the food, so long we thought about giving up and trying somewhere else. The food did arrive and I had no issues with the sausage and mash, good standard pub food, the fish and chips was almost ok, fish was cooked well but the batter was more soggy than crispy. The bill was a good price and had the food arrived in good time I would have been happy. As it was I paid the bill but didn't tip, something I almost always do.

I am so glad that I booked this pub when looking for somewhere near Emsworth for Sunday lunch today. There were 5 humans, a dog and a puppy and we could not have been made to feel more welcome. Our Sunday roasts were delivered in good time, and we all agreed that our food was delicious and good value for money. I am a very fussy veggie and I can honestly say that my homemade nut roast was the best I have had for ages; the roasties, veg and Yorkshire pudding, and stuffing were equally gorgeous! We followed up with tasty desserts and hot beverages. All the way through all the staff were cheerful and helpful; the fact that our dog and puppy were made to feel as welcome as we felt, was a very welcome bonus! What an absolute find - a wonderful time was had by us all. Looking forward to going back again already!

Thought long and hard about leaving this review and appreciate that they need more staff but when I go to an upmarket restaurant I want to be shown to my table and offered some menus but the young lad on greeting us pointed to a table in the corner and said “it’s that one over there” and we were left to get on with it. We then waited at least 15 mins for anyone to come over with a menu. I could go on, the food was lovely but not hot enough, the gravy was brought out in the smallest jug I have even seen in my life and lots of people were asking for more. We didn’t have a starter but had two mains and two puddings and then coffees. We were there for 2.5 hours! Also, they were unable to provide a liquor coffee but it was still added to the bill. It will be a while before I go back. Hoping things get a little more organised. The restaurant was really busy and because of past reputation is doing well but word gets around.

Lovely place with great staff but OMG the food prices are astronomical for a pub! Over £10 for most starters and often more than £24 for a main. At least the alcohol prices weren't too bad though. But won't be going back to eat any time soon, even though the quality of the food was pretty good. P.s. can't comment on the hotel part as only went for food and a drink.

A great location but sadly a very average experience. We went on a Wednesday night during half term and the menu was limited with none of the daily specials actually available but still on the board. I elected to go for the fish and chips and it was almost inedible, super dry and as if the fish had been reheated in an oven, the chips were terrible, dry and super crispy. My daughters had the chicken dippers and the chips had LOADS of salt on them. We were keen to stay for desserts but decided to skip it. I understand they have/had a new chef in so perhaps he was coming upto speed. Sadly I wouldn't return.
