Brilliant place to go!! The food was lovely and the staff that work there are a wonderful bunch, so attentive, nothing was too much to ask for my friends birthday. Will definitely be back, thank you to everyone at the Hornet for such a brilliant night

Went here for a family birthday party for my mother in laws birthday about 16 of us very understaffed for a busy fri night food all came out staggered we were all eating at different times food was cold virtually inedible massive que for bar waiters tried hard but gotta be honest the menu is massive confusing and service was poor I would not go back was far from happy I was looking forward to our meal it was not good at all

Great food (curry), beautiful dessert (sticky toffee) and Tracy our waitress was the best - she told us to never wear our socks two days in a row haha.

Fish and chips were lovely and the staff work so hard they are marvellous. No matter how busy it gets they are always smiling and making everyone feel relaxed well done .

Fist visit to this place after an horrendous meal a few years ago. Pleasantly surprised. Food nice and hot and tasty - could do with a bit of garnish but great value for money. No frills. We had the southern fried chicken wrap and salt and pepper fries and ate every single mouthful. Service here has improved and Tracy who served our food was nice and pleasant. We will be back.

Brilliant breakfast food! We had the super special breakfast and my son had the waffles. Cannot complain if I tried, food was hot and tasty and presented lovely! The staff were so kind and friendly and really helpful with getting me a high chair etc Couldn’t thank you guys enough!

cold food and some of it not cooked , one meal came 10 minutes after first meal was served ,it would of never come if i did not ask the waitress it came cold, a little overpriced for the quality and quantity you get , wont be visiting again, the guy who took the order was a really helpful and nice, think he was the manager.

We had a table booked for 6.30pm on a Saturday night. Tried ordering on the app, saw fish and chips were greyed out so went to the bar to ask if they were available, to be told no. Ordered our food, a waitress came over to our table and said 2 of the dishes we ordered came with a salad, however they had no salad left so did we want something instead, we asked for onion rings. Then the manager came to our table to tell us the kitchen actually closed at 6.30 as they were a chef down and she said she will refund our money, we told her the waitress had just been over to us, so the manager went to the kitchen and they were plating up our meals. She came and told us this and then our obviously microwaved vegetable lasagne and beef lasagne came with the onion rings which were absolutely disgusting and she brought an extra portion of chips. This is the worst meal we have ever had and will not return to a Hungry Horse again.

Great experience. The manager If I remember (harry) glasses and short hair was amazing, dealt with a small issue we had very swiftly along with all the staff members. They was great and I will eat here again due to my experience with the staff at this place. Thank you all & specially the manager on the night.

Went there after going to gordon rigg and was really happy with everything, staff were welcoming, food was yummy (even nicer than Wetherspoons) and everything was reasonably priced. We decided we going to start going there instead of Wetherspoons. Will be back soon!!

Quick tea Travelled from Cheshire as a couple, on way to Todmorden. Booked online, place was heaving when we arrived (on time) and our table was already occupied. Finally found empty table near to bar, queued to order food at bar, paid immediately and food arrived 40 minutes later. Staff were apologetic about the wait and it did not impact our evening too much. Good value for money (2 for 1) on burgers. Remember to use your 15% discount if you are members of the AA.

First time eating out since last year, I must admit I was very impressed! Greeted at the door and shown to our table, a lot of safety measures in place. Received our drinks rather quickly! Had a little wait on for food but we didn’t mind as we could see the staff going above and beyond to make sure everyone was having a good meal. My steak came cooked exactly how I like it and kids meals very good potions. Overall we enjoyed our visit and definitely won’t be the last, thanks for a lovely visit ☺️

First meal out since lifting of lock down. It was not what I expected after such a long lay off. No sanitiser at the door (empty) table allocated was sticky. Nevertheless, the burger was good but the chips were cold. More worryingly NEVER GO THERE IF YOU ARE GLUTEN FREE. Whilst they have a GF menu they tell you they cannot confirm there will be no cross contamination and it is our risk. My wife is coeliac, try risking this advice at your peril ! No adverse affects after meal but be warned. No one asked if meal was ok, no one said goodbye. Come on Hornet up your game please.

The entire experience was dismal from start to finish. Very poor service, table dirty, food below standard. There only 3 other covers so it wasn't even moderately busy. Took 25 minutes to get a menu and able to order drinks. Salt and ketchup all over the two tables we were sat at. I had fish and chips. The fish was soggy and looked like it had been reheated rather than freshly made. To say it is only 3 days since the lockdown ended it doesn't bode well. 1st and last time I go there. Ruined my first visit to a restaurant since February 2020. VERY DISAPPOINTING!!

Fantastic service by a young barman called Jack. we wasn't ordering off the app, but shouted Jack and went out of his way to bring us drinks as soon as was possible. Great service Jack, you need a payrise. x

So easy to book via Greene King app and order food whilst sat at the table. Hygiene standards are excellent, always feel so Covid safe. Food is lovely and so fast to arrive. Staff service great, always check on you and nothing is too much trouble.

Met at the door by Colin and his staff and was taken through all the very easy to understand safety rules. The staff are very friendly and attentive. A very relaxed, enjoyable visit. Will be back.

Me and my daughter came for breakfast after a walk. We were more than impressed with the full day breakfast with a drink for £6.19. Thank you will be visiting for breakfast again.

This was my first time here, I came with my Nan she and my family live locally so have been before. It was quite a busy Saturday and when we arrived we told the wait for food was 40 mins we agreed to that we didn’t mind waiting, when I when to the bar to order the waiting time had gone upto 1 hour again I agreed. The food came arrived within 40 mins and was really nice and great value for money. It’s a nice pub I would go there again.

Great food for great value... the pubsafe - Codie And Charlotte did an amazing job at welcoming us back for our first night out post lockdown explaining to us the safety measures in place and reassuring us that they were doing everything to the best The food came quickly and was more than we expected for the prices. Will definitely be going back again!!

Blonde girl on the door was very polite and explained the social distancing rules very clearly, a young girl with pink hair (didn’t catch her name) was very polite making sure we had everything we need and that everything was ok for us, the bar staff where very efficient and polite would recommend 10/10

The food was ordered and I was informed of the wait which I was happy with. When the food came the girls were polite and made sure we had everything we needed. Louis and Sean behind the bar are lovely and made service at the bar a pleasure. Well done The Hornet.

Absolutely horrendous and I will never step foot in this pub/restaurant again. Where do I even begin. Staff were unruly, food was horrendous and the atmosphere was uncomfortable. Our food arrived over an hour after we ordered which is fair due to coronavirus. However, the portion was supposed to be a big plate, yet was absolutely tiny and the chicken was slimy. The staff never asked us how the food was and there was clearly no care. Now where do we start with the staff... please excuse my language but the bar staff kept swearing and referring to each other as 'f***ing tw**s'. One barmaid (blond) kept doing her hair in the mirror instead of serving customers. They then had someone who clearly worked here who was so drunk, he smashed a glass and again, the swearing continued. Finally, the bar staff were giving out drugs to one another. Literally handing a JOINT from one to another and asking each other if they had 'baccy' so they could roll a joint. To say this is supposed to be a family restaurant/pub, I would suggest anyone who had little ones not to come because the things they will see is shocking. Something needs to be done about the people behind the bar.I will NEVER come back here and will deter people off coming at any given chance.

Went the last 3 Thursday night's since the pubs reopened and the staff have clearly put great efforts in to insure the safety and comfort of its customers during the pandemic. Test and trace is fully in place and all staff wearing PPE, along with logistical rearrangements to make the place Covid-safe. Highly recommended for a quality and lively pub quiz on a Thursday.

Ordered food on app to be told they ran out of food, why accept a booking when you have no food, wasted £30 on taxis and drinks to have to go home without food.

I've been one of the people worrying a lot about going out during the pandemic. That said, I've been to the Hornet twice in recent weeks due to the start up of their Thursday night pub quiz. So far, so good!The needing to book a table before visiting is great as it ensures that they aren't crowded. The pub have put measures in to keep everyone separated (removal of tables, alternating tables kept empty, etc.)They have a one way in / one way out system using the front and back doors which seems to work and avoids crowding at just one entrance.We've mostly used the app when orderring food and drinks, and that's been issue-free. When we visited yesterday, they were short on a number of food items, but these were greyed out on the app so you knew before trying to order what was / wasn't available.Food has been fresh & hot both times we have been, and staff are working really well to keep everything running smoothly.Thanks!

First time out as a family couldnt feel more safe during these times very well organised by the staff hand sanitiser every where floor markings great table service you can pay at the bar if using cash but i opted to pay via the app the food was delicious we will be back

First time we have eaten out in a long time was a little apprehensive however every thing perfect staff friendly explained the system and everywhere was spotless. The food was lovely and we didn't wait long really really lovely visit out thank you tl all the staff at The Hornet

Visited today with my Mum and children for breakfast. Social distancing measures all in place, clean and food was brilliant.... and everyone enjoyed their brekkie! Staff friendly and big thanks to Liam and Jack for helping out with everything we needed. Lovely place!

Ordered food via the app at 18:32 recieved our 1 single starter at 19:05,19:45 and our mains finally showed up after I was spoken to like pure crap from a member of staff about the mains. Our main plates where collected at 19:58 and it is now 20:25 and we have just been told they don't have the dessert I ordered. All of these where ordered at 18:32.Wouldn't mind having a bit of a wait but to be spoken to like crap when we asked for an update just makes the situation worse.

I came in for food this evening and let me tell you I am gobsmacked at the service I got… I understand the kitchen being busy and them being understaffed but waiting almost an hour for a pizza is quite outrageous! I was served the Pizza and to be fair it looked rather nice but I was that hungry I would have eaten anything, I wasn’t offered any condiments or anything to wipe my hands with I was just passed a fork with no napkin! I believe the girl that served me was called Charlotte if I remember rightly, I was told they had no steak knifes to cut it with! What do they expect me to do ???

During these horrible times due to the pandemic the staff were amazing, so helpful and chatty.Codie could not do enough for us, Janette on door duty but still going round and checking everyone is okay and Steve going round with cleaning supplies. Purposely asked their names so i could write the review.Really enjoyed the food,prices are great, cant wait to go back.

You know what to expect from a Hungry Horse and this one ticked the box, bar the lecture on pre-booking on arrival...I did try on the app but as it was a late idea it wouldn't let us! Social distancing measures in place are excellent.My battered halloumi ciabatta was minus a sauce and onions but was HUGE! I did actually leave the bread as I couldn't manage it.As said ticks the boxes for a pub lunch and the app is very easy to use.

Lovely staff, especially liked that they had a cleaning monitor, very tidy and neat, amazing breakfast and great prices

I love to call this place my local pub, the staff are brilliant and even when i go in on my own you never feel alone, it's a great pint and great food and I've made alot of new friends through coming Here, would definitely recommend to anyone.

Food ok although I did feel slighly robbed as my sizzler came out not sizzling. The table next to us however have the grandeur of their sizzler cracking and spitting as it came to the table. Desert was ok.

Tables grubby. Menus stained with food. Whole place was freezing cold. No Coca Cola to drink as they had run out.Cutlery dirty. Food average, chicken and mushroom pie was like a house brick. Only good thing was a lovely polite and friendly waitress. Place needs a good clean and some maintenance to improve standards.

What can I say? This place has more ups and downs than a roller-coasterThe most recent visit was the nail in the coffin for me... Not busy, but took my partner 20 minutes to order food and drinks, having only one person on the bar to do everything. Told there was a 30 minute wait on food, but not usually an issue. 5 minutes after ordering, a girl came and told us they didn't do the steak sandwich we'd ordered, but we could have a chicken one instead... Chicken one is cheaper, but conveniently, we weren't offered a refund of the difference in price.Starters came after around 20 minutes and to be fair, they were decent... But we sat waiting for the mains for nearly 45 minutes after our starters... With the starter dishes STILL on the table.The pot that the sauce came out with was chipped. The mains weren't the best, but nobody could be bothered to check on us to find out.Probably won't be back again, they've had enough chances and nothing seems to change for the better. If you want decent food and decent service, go to Subway

Better pubs out there, nice location went for a meal before I started work it is what you expect from a greene king. Went today and it was curry Wednesday pretty sure I got ripped off as I’m sure a chicken sub and a curry on the deal and 2 drinks don’t cost 30 quid. Service is slow and non exsistent. Got told 30 minutes wait on food that’s fine brought starters out never came back when finished starters. Came out with mains and took starters plates away never did any checkbacks. Staff look like they don’t care would not go back.

Had a pleasant family meal, good for the grandchildren as well. Go regularly as a large family group and are always accommodated.

Tried the big breakfast and must say it was brill. Service and drinks top as well must say the place does look a bit run down might be due a lick of paint. A good range of food and drink is the best reason for a visit.

There's no fancy dining here but it's got a large choice on the menu.Burgers, pizza, grills, salads, a typical Hungry Horse chain. The atmosphere is nice, lively & bright.I'm not going to say I was overwhelmed by the food but it wasn't bad. The mixed grill that one of the party had was excellent value. To get out of the house & have someone else cook for you it's a decent enough place to go.Got to say though dessert was amazing!! I must have eaten so quick I didn't get a photo!!Good prices and lots of choice.

The Hornet has a nice decor is clean and tidy and has a good menu. Unfortunately the customer service was very poor during our visit. We had to wait 15 mins to place an order, we had not received our drinks after 10 mins and were then told our food would be delayed. This was hard to fathom as the place was empty only one other table occupied in the whole restaurant. Very poor customer service, we asked for a refund and left. We had a similar experience a few months ago and nothing has improved, we will not return here again. We have left feedback with HH and await their response, if any.

Absolutely terrible experience today and will never eat here again!! Waited 15minutes just for my food order to be paid for, only one person on till making all drinks and taking them to tables. Whilst waiting for my drinks manager came over to tell me that there was only one chef dealing with all food orders so would have a longer WAIT! Surely this could have been mentioned at the time of ordering food. When challenged the manager about the situation, he said it's usually quiet on Saturday mornings, yet there were 2 other staff members clearing a few tables or just wandering. Couldn't answer why they didn't take food orders ,as the queue was about 4 adults behind me. Got my money back but definitely wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

Called and reserved a table which was dealt with very easy. Table was ready when we arrived very friendly staff and nice atmosphere. A good choice of food on the menu. Food was great value and tasty would recommend to anyone will be returning.

You can not get served for food or beer when its busy only ever 1 COLLEAGUE serving 4 customers at once, the wait time is unbelievable if you just pop in for a quick drink

Visited on Friday afternoon with my husband and children. Was impressed! After a short wait at the bar out order was put through and then our food arrived quickly and was piping hot, didn’t get gravy I ordered but the friendly staff couldn’t be more helpful, quickly resolved this and brought it straight out, deserts good size aswell! Overall lovely visit and will definitely be back

Well where do I begin, ordered burger meal (Friday buy one, get one free) great value, waitress really friendly and cheerful, missing items from burgers such as onion rings, she went back to get these, then we noticed no pulled pork so we just let that slide, son went up with his dad to order desserts, then decided we needed a break so I went with my daughter and son to have some fresh air, I asked at the bar what the wooden spoon was for, told if no one has checked if everything is OK with the meal we get a free dessert, explained no one came, then the waitress said that the brown haired waitress had asked if all was OK, they didn't. They made out I was lying... I asked to speak to the lovely blond haired waitress and they both marched over staring they checked cctv and was lying... No, I was not lying. I'm disgusted by them, I asked to see the manager, told there isn't one. Then they literally threw a dessert at me... Sorry don't come here if you want to be treated like a human.

Visited at tea time with our grandson, we asked for the children's pizza and garlic bread all one set menu. They had no children pizza so we had to order a full sized one. Then we had to pay for his garlic bread has an extra. I questioned why but was told there was nothing they could do. I was then told there was a 40min wait OK. Meals arrived 1hr 10mins later. I ordered the sizzling steak, ( not sizzling)it came in a full piece and I couldn't chew it. My wife ordered the chicken baguette and had to send it back because it was cold. Came back after a quick blast in the microwave. The bread baguette was doughy so didn't get eaten and the crust on the pizza was that hard we couldn't even cut it with a steak knife.

Absolutely beautiful food brilliant service the place was so busy and the staff was run off there feet and still provided excellent food and an excellent service highly recommended xx

Great find as I was on my way home last night... first time visit and I’ll definitely be back with my family... had the burger and fries and a lovely pint of Greene King IPA... all for under £10!!

Came to visit family that were eating here and decided to join them to save the hassle of cooking and cleaning, but turns out it would've been alot easier and quicker! The staff on the floor I couldnt really fault but the manager looks like he has more of an idea of what's going on in North Korea than what's going on in the kitchen and on the floor. There was no more than 6 tables in and for a steak (that was overcooked) and 10 chicken wings it took 40 mins. Joke. I've been to many Hungry horses before and they have never been as much of a disaster as this place!!

We visited here in November before going to the Panto with the kids, having waited in the queue for the bar for 10 minutes we decided to order via the Greene King App as the only barman was making a lot of coffee's. After waiting an hour for our food I went to the bar and was then told my order hadn't been started yet as it had been missed - Although I could clearly see my table number on the order screen behind the bar with 56 minutes next to it..... Completely unacceptable considering it wasn't very busy. As we had tickets I had no option but to request a refund as we couldn't afford the 40 minute additional wait. Nearly 2 weeks later my refund still hasn't been processed into my account, although Greene King head office assure me of an urgent response i'm still waiting......

This place has improved over the years but seemingly made a huge jump backwards since introducing the App. Theres always queues at the bar so the app in theory is convenient. However they dont seem to be able to handle the service around it. You're lucky if your drink turns up. You're lucky if your food turns up in the hour and dont ever order a starter as a side dish, even after telling the waitress to bring the food out together we got 2 starters and the mains came 40 minutes later. Terrible.

Very clean and tidy and good value for money. The choice of meals is very good and different offers every day makes it very easy on the pocket.

I've always had great experience at this restaurant but today for some reason the bar staff appear to be very sleepy. I've just waited nearly 40 minutes. Only 1 customer in front of me. 2 bar staff, 1 had a mountain of brews to make, the other thought was a great idea to complain about a customer complaining to another customer at the bar. I eventually got served off the nice lady who had a mountain of brews to make. The food was great and our server was great. Just a shame about the bar letting them down.

Great place to go with kids, good outside play area. Excellent value for money especially with vouchers. Very good and helpful service too.

Well were do I start !! Reserved the conservatory area for 18 people to celebrate my grandsons 1st birthday each family ordered their meals and we was told they'd all be brought out together. As everyone's meals were arriving myself my husband and 3 kids were left waiting for ours bare in mind the kids were getting hungry ! Gave it 10 mins or so before I asked at the bar were our food was the young waiter said he would go find out 15 mins later still no food for my party of 5 by this point everybody had finished their meal and my children were eating leftovers as they were so hungry I again asked were my food was to be told I hadn't placed an order and it hadnt gone through to the kitchen so here we was starving hungry and myself left so angry it actually spoilt our evening luckily I'd kept my receipt wich showed I had ordered and paid for 5 meals so after 1 and half hours after 13 other people from our party had finished and was ready for home our meals were just arriving couldn't fault the food but the service,lack of staff and the way the manager somhow manages the restraunt was diabolical!!!,

Firstly I ordered the fried steak sandwich and I was told they didn’t have it so I ordered a burger combo ..... a cold mixed grill arrived ! I tried to eat it after sitting and waiting for 50Mins but it was absolutely shocking and I left most of it . To add insult to injury around 10 kids decided to run around and scream . Definitely give this place a miss and go McDonald’s instead !
