Beach - Fayre & Square in Rochdale

Visited as a family of 4 on a Sunday afternoon. Booked online beforehand and was seated fairly quickly. My partner went to the bar to order when a rather rude waitress came over to my table and told me the table was actually reserved. She pointed at the reserve sign and told me I can't just walk in and sit where I want. I replied I had reserved online and another member of staff seated us at this table. To which she replied 'well these tables are hard to find especially on a sunday'. I'm not entirely sure what she meant but I shrugged it off and carried on. All four of us 2 children and 2 adults ordered the carvery which was okay at best. My 8 year old daughter realised she had forgotten to put broccoli on her plate when she got back to the table. I told her to nip back and get some. She came back with a bright red face and on the verge of tears with no broccoli on her plate. A lovely lady sat near the carvery told me what had happened. The same waitress as mentioned above had told my 8 year old to go and sit back down and she isn't allowed to get any broccoli because it's 'not an all you can eat buffet'. This happened infront of everyone waiting in the carvery que and clearly left my daughter feeling humiliated. Speaking to the waitress in question got us nowhere. She proceeded to tell me she couldn't get any more veg because all the food gets weighed at the end of the day. I told her it's exactly the same amount of food because my daughter would have added it to her plate had she not forgotten. She responded with 'there is nothing I can do'. How utterly ridiculous after spending almost £100. I'm appalled any waitress thinks it's acceptable to speak to any child in that manner. How humiliating for her. Safe to say we will not be returning and certain staff members need lessons on how to respectfully speak to people including children.

Went in at 5pm and had carvery which was disgusting. Food kept on hot plate since lunchtime. Roast potatoes, vegetables dried out and just warm. The only fresh thing was mashed potato. To top it all got a £60 parking fine. .

One hell of a day,scoffing, walking, chatting,bright blinding sun and wind to power 100 windmills,but very enjoyable, place was absolutely rammed with people, It wo like Bradford on a Sunday afternoon.

Came here after a beautiful walk round the lake. We were recommended for the carvery. Everywhere was busy, kids everywhere crying and shouting and dogs allowed in. I nearly fell after a dog went infront of me and after just recovering from my hospital stint was very scary. Toilets basic. No loo paper in some & quite run down. The carvery was ok - just ok. It might be better in the week but weekend and school holidays very noisy and feels like a kids club. So if you are a couple looking for a quiet meal go in the week. Views beautiful though !!

What can I say that's good?....I parked the car, ok!! Service from the moment we went in was dreadful. Waiting so long to be seated, only to be told,'sit where you want'. Went to the bar for a drink.....waited ages!! Young barman kept appearing and disappearing. Eventually, I was served, and I returned to the table. We decided to have a carvery, went the bar again to order and pay, a small queue was in front, so we waited and waited. There was, at this time, two people behind the bar. The thing is, only one person was serving this side of the bar, the young lad, was serving the other part of the bar, but he was just sitting around, as no one needed serving there. Went through to the carvery, and again, nobody was serving, and after waiting so long again, and seeing the food, we decided to get a full refund and leave. May I also add that the place was not busy.

Cheap and cheerful. Both the bar staff and the man on the carvery counter were polite and friendly. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, perfect for an affordable bite or a pint after a walk around the lake. The portions from the carvery were a large size and I left very full. I would recommend the cheese and onion pie that comes with the vegetarian carvery! There is lots of seating and a pool room too! However, toilets and tables could have done with a bit more of a thorough clean which is why I have left one less star.

Excellent lunch out with my daughter - the staff always make sure she is well looked after. We had a lovely burger each, and the kids deal is great value!

Nice location and good for standard family chain style pub meals. it's ok, not the best but acceptable. The staff are really nice with a great local warmth.

We came in to eat but missed breakfast and an hour wait for dinner menu. Sat down and ordered from the app .. 30 minutes later we checked with the bar and nobody had checked the system. Another 20 minutes later and we are still waiting ..

Would definitely recommend it, the only let down this time, was we were on a table near the rear doors that the kids run on and out of, it was cold when they opened the door. Food, service and staff was 5 star. FREE PARKING when you enter your reg inside, we paid!

We really fancied a carvery so went in and was told we’d just missed it because it ended. Didn’t see any times online or on the menu so a bit disappointed. The carvery was still all out and they still wouldn’t just let us quickly grab a plate. Regular menu is pricy in comparison and took almost an hour to get to the table. Poor food quality too. Seemed like it was all frozen and microwaved. Just like a worse version of spoons tbh.

We visited yesterday whilst visiting family from Stoke. We do not know the area well and The Beach was recommended by a local as a lovely scenic pub with a fantastic carvery. So we arrived, it was very busy and we had a short wait for a parking space. Inside you are greeted by the stunning views of the reservoir. We hadn’t booked but luckily we were seated within minutes by a lovely lady, we later learned was named Debbie. We didn’t go for the carvery because we have plans for a Sunday roast the next day, but we will definitely come back here for a carvery another time. The bar staff were lovely, informed us we would have a wait of about 30-40 mins for food, understandable as it was Saturday lunch time. We waited about 60 mins but the food was nice, good value for money. Then we had a walk around the reservoir after which was beautiful. Debbie was exceptionally friendly and polite, a real ray of sunshine! Good luck on the sponsored walk Debbie!

The food was delicious and the staff were very accommodating and friendly. Can recommend the fish and the burgers. All very tasty. We will definitely be back again.

Great big friendly pub on the lake friendly staff. Lost a point on the meal. Roast potatoes were tasteless. Tasted like they were cooked to many times in the same oil but,the meal itself was great value for the money. Less than £10.00 for a Sunday Roast

I Would not recommend this place I arrived 15 mins before opening but the door was open I asked could I please be allowed to sit down just to breastfeed my 2 week old baby as he was crying rather than taking him back into the cold for the sake of 15 minutes and was told no as if he let me in would have to let others in it is deffinetly not a family freindly pub

Nice clean eatery. Pleasant helpful staff. Visited on a quiet morning. I had finished my coffee before the breakfast arrived 15 minuites later.

Great little pub with really decent food! You can park for free if you eat there so it's a win win. I would say a minor tweak on service is needed - when trying to order our food the woman behind the bar said "Sorry I've finished" and walked off. No one else noticed us for a while - when they did the service was good and the chap serving that carvery was lovely and chatty and definitely made up for it. Was a horrible wet day but spotted the large garden out back and will definitely return in summer. Would recommend the carvery and carvery sandwiches - they were great.

Came in for a spot of lunch before our walk, the what I assume “manager”( blonde hair and blue shirt) left my partner standing for at least 10 minutes at the bar waiting to order while he was busy chatting with his work pals…once my partner had managed to get his attention to order he barely got through our order before rudely returning to conversation with one of his colleagues what was clearly more important, once we had got our carvery its was barely edible the meat was dry then potato’s was dry not even the runny gravy was enough to take away from the dryness, not the 1st time I’ve had a rubbish food from this place and I’ll make sure it’s the last after the staffs rude attitudes…a gossip is clearly more important than doing your jobs !

First time visiting here. We decided to de-stress and take the dog to the Hollingworth Lake. When we arrived we decided to have some lunch before our walk. I decided to try the burger in the picture and told the barman this. My friend had the carvery and we both had soft drinks. This came to £29.23. I thought this was great value until the burger meal arrived. The carvery was delicious my friend informed me and was hot. My burger was the exact opposite. All of it was flat cold and the burger tasted frozen and was well overcooked. The chips that came with the meal were fries and again flat cold and hardly any. I think I must have paid for the novelty of having a hole in the top of my crusty roll as nothing was worth the £11.75 I paid for it. There were no prices on the soft drinks on the menu either.I tried to complain but there was no one around and the poor lad behind the bar was swamped with customers and he was on his own. I was told after ordering, for a table with no number that there was a 30-minute wait on anything other than the carvery. I had already paid by this point so said fine. Our first table was given to someone else when I went out to get my friend from the car even though I told the barman and he said that was our table. This burger meal was sadly lacking in every way and the kitchen must have been solely concentrating on the carvery and shocked when another order came in for something other than the carvery. Green King I found out is the company that owns this establishment and should be ashamed of themselves. I have tried other Green King establishments and if I had known this I would have gone to the pizzeria or chip shop over the road.

Booked a table tonight for 8 (dining) but when we got there they stopped food. Food is meant to stop at 9pm....and we booked ! gutted as little one was anticipating the family meal..

I can't fault this place. Friendly service, delicious breakfast. I had the eggs benedict. Nice cuppa to go with it too. Great for family visits.

Warm welcome by really attentive staff New Years Eve lunchtime, we (family) enjoyed the carvery after a cold showery walk round the lake, will definitely visit in the future and do the same again! (Maybe enjoy a pud next time!)

Food was very delayed. Some of the meals were cold, we could tell they just heated them up.

Best quality and value carvery around. Consistently great every time we visit. Staff are always cheerful and helpful. Plus it’s free parking and a great location for the rest of Hollingworth lake.

It's a good pub and the atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming. The staff were very accommodating of our dog and seated us quickly. The menu options are good and the quality of the food for the price is pretty good. I look forward to returning to enjoy a pint and some peanuts after a walk around the Lake in the spring and summer.

Ordered on the app, food and drinks took an eternity. The only food we ordered was a child's pizza which was pretty much just a Chicago town Pizza that takes 10 minutes in the oven.

We were a party of 10 for Christmas Dinner. It was the best Christmas Dinner we have had at a restaurant. Thanks to all the staff and chef's.

We had Christmas lunch there yesterday. The service, atmosphere and food was excellent. It was well organised, just the perfect pause between courses. All staff were very friendly and efficient. Several times, different members of staff came to the table to check if we were happy with our food or needed any drinks.All three courses were delicious and cooked beautifully. It was also my step-dad's 80th birthday. One lovely member of the staff arrived at the table bearing a slice of cheesecake with a candle in it, then after singing Happy Birthday, volunteered to take a photo for us. We all had an absolutely wonderful time. Huge thanks and very well done to all the staff.

We have just had a wonderful Christmas dinner for 10 on Christmas day. Fabulous service and friendly helpful staff. A lovely meal and great value.

Just a flying visit late one evening whilst waiting for a lift. Only had a glass of pop and a bag of crisps.

Booked the function room upstairs for a family event. The staff were absolutely fantastic and guided us through the process leading to a great buffet, private bar, slide show of photos and music. I can't thank the staff enough for showing empathy and understanding at a difficult time whilst making us feel welcome and accomodated. The function room is a good size with stunning views overlooking the lake. I will definitely be using again for other family events.

Visited today with my little girl for a carvery and was very impressed, food was great and very fresh, but the friendly and helpful staff were what really made our afternoon. Especially the lady doing the carvery and the lady who I assume was management. We’ll definitely be back

I came in on Friday for a carvery the customer service was great by callum at the bar and Carl at carvery, They was very welcoming and well mannered. Will definitely be coming back!!

A delicious carvery mid week with very tasty meat and a super array of vegetables. Staff very pleasant and efficient nothing too much trouble. Shame about the tired dated appearance of the pub interior.

It's a lovely place to visit but I will not be going there again the chef was miserable and unfriendly and rude the food out of the carvery was disgusting never again will I visit this place let alone waiting half an hour to get served don't recommend at all a no show trust me

Our meals were fine. However,being asked on a number of occasions whether we wanted extra food or drinks wasn't appreciated. We felt pressured on an occasion that should've been a relaxing meal. If we'd have wanted extra,we knew where the bar was.

Firstly nice staff who did their best to put things right. However not great for veggie. Ordered a cheese and onion pie and carvery vegetables. Ordered at the bar, the pie was never put in the oven to be cooked so long wait between courses. No veggie roast potatoes and the one’s hurriedly cooked were raw on serving and needed to be recooked. None of the gravies/labelled as veggie friendly or not. Sadly unlikely to return.

Had such a lovely meal with breathtaking view. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. Especially Charlotte on the bar. So nice to see a member of staff enjoying their job nothing was to much to ask. Served with a smile. Will be back.

Had an excellent carvery. Was really impressed. The place was pretty quite but all the food was still piping hot and looked appetising. It was delicious 😋

Cannot fault the service here. Cole, Chris, Peaches, Sophie and Brad were amazing. I came in today for a meal with my family and they were so accommodating and so lovely. Would highly recommend a Texas Jack Burger, Chris did an amazing job. 10/10 for food and service, would come again.

Came in for a drink with family (all adults) and a dog on a Sunday. Super dog friendly, Debbie was a very attentive and friendly waitress, we did not eat but the food looked and smelled great and is very affordable. Gave water bowls and food bowls for dog. Sat in corner near toilets, chilled environment, nice and quiet.

Been at the beech many times for the carvery and had no problem everything spot on .calls for breakfast on Sunday and very disappointed nobody was in only hand full took ages to get some service only 1 staff on the man with fair hair or ginger was about as happy as a bear with a sore bum .breakfast was not very hot my wifes sausage .bacon was burnt and mine looked like it had been warmed up .so won't call again for breakfast .only lunchtime ???

Ate there today for the first time. Ordered the all day breakfast and my partner ordered the chicken and bacon salad. It was the worst salad I've ever seen. Dry chicken with burnt bacon bits and a few lettuce leaves. Absolutely shocking . Coffee's weren't bad though. Seems to mainly cater for the carvery which didn't look bad. If coming here do not order the salad

Awesome carvery tonight after a hard afternoon on the bike, didn’t need to book as it was gone 8pm. Excellent selection of food and was lovely and hot. Will definitely be going back at Christmas with the whole family and a dog 🤣

Today I went to pick up my too good to go back, I never been here before and let me tell you I was so surprised how nice the staff was especially older lady with short hair omg she was the nicest lady ever, I asked if I could have extra gravy bare in mind they don’t have to give u anything else other than ur too good to go back but she brought it to me in a cup all wrapped up so it doesn’t spill and then I was being cheeky and asked for any fork and she brought me fork knife salt and pepper with napkins, this was the best too good to go experience, I will definitely come back there and book a table to have a meal because I never seen such a lovely staff member in my life. thought we would stop in for a carvery today after a walk round the lake, two of us plus a little one and a doggo. The lady on the front desk was lovely and found us a table in around 10 minutes. Given how busy it looked the carvery was hot and fresh and the chefs seemed to be putting out fresh food all the time. ordered pasta for the little one with peas and chips. by the time my partner returned with her carvery the little ones meal was already on the table. was quite impressed with the service given how busy it was and they even do a whole menu for the dog! would definitely give it another go but maybe when its not so busy

The meal was very good but the guy behind the bar is excellent and attentive.

Lovely place, polite staff,nice food over all at reasonable price, although the beef on the cavery can be quite chewy and full of gristle so I have stopped having this. It's has disabled access and toilets, There is a lovely outdoor part suitable for kids when the weather is nice. Nice views overlooking hollingworth lake. Lovely place for a walk round hollingworth lake to walk your lunch off.

I can honestly say this is the worst meal we have ever had. It was so bad. Had the mixed grill and the chicken was like leather extra dry. Sausages burnt all the way through, have these been saved from the breakfast menu as that's the only reason a sausage would be cooked so bad, as for the egg white was completely raw running all over the plate this was clearly not cooked and would never have reached the temperature required to serve to a customer so im taking it that basic food hygiene is definatley not bieng followed in this kitchen and definatley need looking into . Side of gravy just tasted like very strong Worcestershire sauce it was discussing. Also on to website to order to your table there was no childrens menu. So I went to the bar and asked why and they said that they had switch it off because of a half an hour wait on food. This is totally wrong and should not be done. I usually visit greenkings all the time cause of their dog friendly atmosphere. This has changed our minds and think i will be looking elsewhere in future.

My mother in law came for carvery and they couldn't inform her on any allergens in the food only could help if ordering off the main menu.

Absolutely disgusted, got there at 2pm today and was stood at the bar for 15 minutes waiting to be served. We was with our daughter and grandchild. The staff totally ignored us, more bothered about serving the regulars that kept coming to the bar, looked straight through me and my husband, left the bar and walked straight past us with no acknowledgement. More bothered about the city game, than customers. I'm not happy at all, we just wanted a nice family meal together with children. We have been going there for years, and we're not the ones to complain.

Nice selection of small plates (tapas-ish) for £11 was good value. The ones we chose were very good. Rather limited real ale selection but again the one I drank was a great brown ale. Overall I was impressed and would go again.

A greene king pub with a carvery and you can take a dog in if you want.

Carvery had plenty of veggie options, made roasties in oil rather than beef dripping when I asked. Can’t beat the price, and space outside for the kids. 10/10

Came to watch the rugby,the staff,Izzy especially were perlite, professional and curtious. Wasn't going to have food but gave in and had the carvery.Loved it..... Overall I would come back again no problem.

Went for a quiet meal with my wife We decided on the all day carvery which was £7 each which I thought was a bargain. We had the turkey which was lovely. Plenty of choice for the potatoes and Veg also a big Yorkshire pudding

Visited today after finding out from a friend about the offer on carvery. We got a table pretty much straight away. That view is fantastic! 4 of us, 3 adults and a little one. We ordered fish fingers for the child that arrived relatively quickly. When going for our carveries there was a queue of about 5 people but didn’t mind as we could see it was being refreshed all the time. Food was really nice and staff are lovely and very attentive. Definitely worth the value for money

Good value, food, and lovely location. However, the staff were not very friendly. I had to wait almost 10 minutes to be attended to whilst stood at the bar. There was only one customer in front of me. All the other staff just walked past me as though I was invisible. Shame because the place has great potential!

I have been here before and it was lovely. Came today. Service was slow and poor. Tables full of empty plates. We waited 20 mins for drinks. Ordered 5 plates and beef, nachos and chicken was cold. Children's meal was good. Had to ask twice for deserts and wait 25 mins. Disappointed on this visit. Seemed short staffed.

Called here a month ago if you are disabled please don’t call here, you get treated like a second class citizen, we will squeeze you into the corner out of the way we got told, no where near the disabled toilet I would have had to ask lots of other diners to get past while they was eating, we just turned around and got out of the place as fast as we could

The service was poor at the bar as the there was the only person serving drinks and food. Worse was to come as when at the front of the queue, I was told there is a different menu outside, a menu not on display on the outside tables. We opted for the carvery which was then served in a polystyrene container.

Went for tea with my Niece and her Dad we asked for 2 carvery and 1 fish and chips. 3 times we were told the fish and chips would be about 25 mins, so we got the carvery, after having to ask for the tickets which the server didn't initially give us, we were more than half way through the carveries and more than half an hour after ordering the food when I looked at the receipt only to find that the fish and chips had not been ordered or payment for them taken. When asked the staff member said "no she hasn't taken it down do you want me to order it now" we declined. No apology no offer of a complimentary drink nothing. We went across the road for fish and chips which he ate whilst sat by the lake ☹ Drinks were £12.50 for 1 coke, 1 lemonade and a peroni larger

The food, service and atmosphere were good. The only things that it down for me were the awfully sticky floors and the terribly dated toilets. Other than that good 👍🏼
