We stayed at The Hobbit for a couple of nights near the beginning of August after its reopening due to covid. The hotel is tucked away on a hillside overlooking Sowerby Bridge. The room was in an annexe very modern and clean. The views over the hills were a lovely sight especially as you could sit outside for a drink and chill as we were very lucky with the weather. Obviously at this time we had to follow guidelines and the staff seemed to cope really well as it was all new to them also as the hotel had only recently opened up for business again. Breakfast was good with enough to start you for the day. We did book dinner on the first night but wasn't overly impressed. The hotel is a good point to stay for local visits. We managed to travel to Hebden Bridge and Haworth in one day and take in some of the local culture. Would certainly use this hotel again.

...... after a long drive we really wanted a fairly quiet meal and have eaten here once before so we’re looking forward to it. Alas, group of locals in adjacent bar were making so much noise it was hard to have a decent conversation. Food and service good but spoilt by noisy drinkers! In fairness I should think locals spend a lot of money here but answer would be to separate bar and restaurant area.

Working up and around Hebden Bridge area, and was looking for a base to test while working away. The Rooms with breakfast were great value, clean and importantly a good bathroom. The location is ideal not just for working, but for tourists too as a beautiful area. Bar and restaurant bright, clean, nicely appointed and fair choice on the menu

It's an odd spot this one. I've known it since the heady days in 70s and 80s. We called in for a drink. It just seems a bit sterile now. Not a jolly pub atmosphere, more of a restaurant. Apparently food's good.

Just been to the hobbit as a last minute decision for our evening meal, staff were very welcoming, restaurant was busy with couples and families, had the carvery, food was lovely. My partner was offered two choices of meat. Veg was fresh and well cooked. Scenery is great and the outdoor seating area is great on such a lovely night. Will definitely be returning again.

Last minute decision to have a night away and chose here. Beautiful location and quality decor throughout! Very impressed with the food as they also had plenty of gluten free options for myself! The gluten free home made onion rings were delicious!! Unfortunately I was too full to try their gluten free sticky toffee pudding 😕we will just have to call again! My only disappointment was, that they only sold Smirnoff vodka and as I’m a vodka drinker I prefer grey goose or equal quality vodka. But other than that, food, service and accommodation was spot on!

If you want to get away from the usual stuff in a town or a city and see some magnificent country sights, then go here. It's a pub with accommodation in it and more outside in the car park area. We chose the latter and had a room with a small balcony which overlooked the car park and the beer garden. You can sit there with a drink and watch the sun go down over the valley beyond. The room was comfortable and the shower was great. It was one of those which is rectangular and is as long as bath. A nice tea tray with a good variety. There is wi fi in the pub and rooms. Our tv did not work at all well and most channels pixelated. Should have reported it on check out but forgot ( Room 33 ). Loads of parking. Very steep and at times narrow roads to get here. Breakfast was buffet style including the hot stuff. Never as good as ordering from fresh but nonetheless good.

We had an evening meal and stayed over having breakfast in the morning. The quality of the food was good and the pub/restaurant/rooms nicely decorated. There is also plenty of parking outside. HOWEVER the service let the place down badly. One young waitress was clearly not bothered taking the order but not coming back with what we asked for (another table got really anger after specially asking for brandy in brandy glasses but being service regardless in whiskey tumblers without anything being said) then the other waiter was a lovely young lad but had no idea what he should be doing. Basic training required. In our room the shower drain overflowed and flooded the bathroom - was this really the first time and not known about, I suspect not. We then tried to find our way to breakfast and found the door we had come in from the bar the night before locked even though it was marked as the fire exit - not good if we had been trying to escape. What really got to me was breakfast that should have been served from eight was not set out and the toaster didn’t work. Staff knew but it was still in use burning one side of the toast and not cooking the other. Shame because the food and decor are good and views great but not somewhere I recommend or would rush back to.

Went with family who have been there before to the carvery. This place is up a narrow steep wyndy road from mytholmroyd centre. The views once you get there are well worth the drive. I found the setout of the place quirky the entrance which we went in was at the top end from the car park...lots of step to go down before you got to the main eating place,so wouldn't be suitable for any wheelchair access ...unless I missed somewhere!? The food was average potatoes were a little too dry for me, the meats were cooked beautifully ,really tender . Good choice of vegetables ,sauces & gravy Overall I would say the food was as good as one would expect at a carvery. Treat yourself to a wonderful view, but make sure you wear your seatbelt !

We have had a carvery at the Hobbit quite a few times in the last 6 months or so. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to get the turn around with customers at the carvery and, therefore, the food is usually on the luke warm side rather than hot. There is always a nice choice of meats though and the gravy is always tasty and hot. The puddings are usually to die for, even though a tad on the small side, and are the best part of the meal. Sometimes I feel the serving staff could do with a bit of customer focused training. They bring your puddings and then realise they haven't brought any cutlery so then have to go and get some. Meanwhile, if you are having a hot pudding it's going cold. I just hope the service and food is a lot better when they have wedding functions booked! It's not the worst eating establishment but it could be a lot better.

Four of us came for the Sunday carvery (2 of us from 20 miles away). On arrival we looked at the carvery and commented to the chef about the Yorkshire Puddings looking poor and he said that they would be fresh before it was our turn to eat.We all had a starter (£4 each) and we did enjoy our starters of 3 x pate and 1 x Breaded Brie. Then came the carvery at £8.95 each. Both servers were wearing blue latex gloves - Fine for hygiene when carving the meat - BUT one of the servers placed the stuffing, the pigs in blankets and Yorkshire puddings with his gloved hand (very off putting) on to our plates. Why can't he use tongs or a fork???There was a choice of 3 meats, roast, mashed and new potatoes, parsnips, 6 vegetables, a good selection. However one of our party had the last of the ham, which was full of fat and should have been discarded and not served. Another member of the party had pork which was also the end and fatty although her ham was nice. All the Yorkshire puddings were inedible, burnt on the outside and uncooked in the middle and cold. On complaining, the waitress brought some fresh Yorkshires but these were just as bad - so a total of 8 were uneaten. The roast potatoes were burnt and hard, it was impossible to get your knife through them. There were maybe only 2 or 3 eaten. We did complain immediately but the manager was quite anxious that we spoke quietly and did not make other customers aware of our problems. When we were finally ready to leave, having left most of our meals, we had to go to the bar for our bill, where we were charged half price on the main meals plus the starter and the drinks of course and we paid and left. On reflection on arriving home, we really should not have had to pay for any of the main meals as we did not even eat half of them to warrant the half price!!The Hobbit is a really lovely restaurant with long distance views but this carvery was very disappointing.I do not normally complain on Trip Advisor but feel so strongly about this experience, I felt I needed to do this time.

Great location and comfortable interior, service good but food disappointing as everything was over seasoned. The more we ate the worse it tasted. The vegetables were fine but I had the shepherds pie which was really really salty, others had the classic burger ( which previously has been fantastic) but on this visit was poor. Be warned though if you order the children's toad in the hole, make sure they are starving as the portion size is enormous just like their Yorkshire puddings.

We visited late on on a Sunday and had the carvery meal, which was both generous and of excellent quality. A nice range of local and national beers all well presented and kept. This was a family occasion and our party of 7 were comfortably seated and attentively waited upon. While this is certainly not a 'themed' pub, it does give the feeling of the sort of place you'd expect to bump into Bilbo Baggins! The drive up from the valley bottom is not for the faint-hearted, but well worth it!

The food was excellent, atmosphere brilliant (pianist) accommodation clean but the room we were given must have been the smallest in the Hobbit. Drinks averagely priced but I'd stop there if I were you ....Had looked on line at the menu and already decided what I was going to haveSoup of the day - (roasted tomato) - served lukewarm with watery croutons ??????Warm bread roll though !!! ☺️My friend had some of the smallest mussels ever seen. No spoon offered and the warm crusty bread turned up half through the starterMain course : I had what I planned. Giant Yorkshire pudding with homemade stew ....... Came "well done" (being kind). Stew tasty but Yorkshire not to my taste at all. Left it !! The server asked if I'd enjoyed it. The first time I'd been approached about the food - explained it looked burnt and was burnt. I was offered something else but declined. My friend had finished eating. My friend enjoyed a fish dish - the risotto was lovely. Fish dry. Poached egg perfect.Pudding "shared". Massive piece of dry microwaved treacle tart and a pixie portion of half melted ice creamFinished off with a couple of lukewarm coffees and parted with £50 between usNot worth even a 10 minute drive out and certainly no recommendation from us ladies wot lunch .......... and it showed so much promise !!

The restaurant is lovely, the design, furniture and fab views, But, the food? Not sure. My tagliatelli were the thickest I have seen and the sauce tasteless, the seafood, chewy. The youngest grandson had gammon from the children's menu and the gammon ( if it was gammon) the size of a coaster and half fat. Now, why would you serve a chunk of fat on a child 's meal? This is the second visit to the Hobbit, the first before last Christmas, then the place was cold, the veg like rocks and the food very poor. But sometimes restaurants have a bad day, don't they? So we gave it another chance. Will not give it a third chance though.

We revisited this restaurant last night for the 2nd time. Our first visit a couple of weeks ago has not been great from a food point of view but the staff rectified the problem and couldn't have been more helpful, on the basis of great customer service we returned last night. The food was pretty dire to say the least. I really didn't want to complain as I had the first time so just went along with what we got: Chilli Nachos to share, generally OK but way overpriced for what we got. The Chilli was really just tomatoey with burnt bits, little meat and no kidney beans and no chilli. My main arrived and looked good - that's were it ended! I ordered Chicken Curry, which came in bowls on a wooden board, difficult to eat, the so called curry was hard pre-cooked pieces of chicken with a non-descript tomatoey, acidic sauce over it, not remotely like a curry. My husband had Pasta Arrabiata and had asked for it extra spicy. A mound on tagliatelle arrived, with a very dry tomatoey sauce and a few pieces of chorizo. There was not the heat kick he had been promised and once he had eaten the chorizo was just left with a dry, pile of pasta with bits of tomato. He left 2/3rds as it was unpalatable. The lovely waitress asked if all OK when she cleared and was most apologetic to hear we hadn't enjoyed our food. She offered a drink on the house as way of apology, which was fine and said I could have asked for a plate for the curry, which is what she does. We have no complaints whatsoever with the staff and the ambience of the restaurant, however, whilst this current "chef" is at the helm, we won't be returning.

We had dinner last evening in The New Hobbit; it was absolutely first class. We had been looking for a good local restaurant since having a bad experience at our regular place. I wanted to write a very positive review because we simply came away feeling very good about our evening. Our starters were the pate and the tempura prawns. The food was well presented and extremely good. The same thing applied to our main courses of sirloin steak and fish pie. We had some very nice wine from a short but well thought through list In particular, I wanted to say something about the staff; they were absolutely first class. They were all really attentive and knew what they were doing. The owners have hit the button here; good food and excellent service. The prices are very reasonable. I also wanted to mention how well appointed the premises are. The dining room and bar area are decorated very tastefully and the whole place has a very informal but efficient feel to it. The New Hobbit deserves to do very well; it will certainly get more business from me.

First time visit for a Sunday lunch. First impressions were the bar is very impressive and finished to a very high standard. We mentioned we'd booked when we ordered our drinks and were handed menus whilst our table was prepared. We ordered Sunday roasts and the food was ok. Only criticism would be the homemade potatoes highlighted in the menu were lacking in quantity! A couple of small ones on each plate was disappointing for us good old Yorkshire folk! Service was disappointing really. Waited a while for food given the bar was quiet and then we asked to see desserts menu. We waited 30 minutes for someone to come back by which time we'd waited enough. We asked for the bill instead and the bill came with a charge for the desserts we never ordered. Another 10 minutes for us to grab attention for the bill changing. Such a shame service doesn't match the decor.

We had to ask one of the waitresses who then tended to us. When the the waitress asked her about the booking she just shrugged her shoulders. One seated and orders placed only 1 order came out, the rest followed 10 mins later. Burgers were tasteless. Decided to have desserts and place order. Me and my wife visted with friends on a Saturday evening during august 2013. We have been before years ago and much has changed. The Decor is wonderful, amongst the best, if not the very best in the Halifax area. The menu is a souped up traditional pub menu with a few additions and was also fine. I ordered the "Grand Hobbit Burger" and my wife ordered gammon steak with eggs and chips. Our friends ordered steak and lasagne. The restaurant was relatively quiet and our meals took almot an hour to arrive. We didn't order starters . My burger was was spoiled by grissle. 5 pieces of grissle. It was far from grand. The chips weren't peeled properly, there was a distinctly small amount of cheese and the bacon was burnt black. The Gammon came with cherry tomatoes even though my wife asked for it not to, the eggs were hard, but worst of all the edge of the steak was a funny blueish colour. She did not eat it because of this. The lasagne was microwaved however the steak was cooked just how my friend likes it and he really enjoyed the giant mushroom and tomatoes on the vine. We did try to tell the waitress when she asked if everything was ok as she rushed passed but she never stopped for our response. Having paid up front when ordering at the bar we decided to make for the exit. When we went to our car we saw one of the chefs or kitchen staff outside in filthy chefs clothes smoking a cigarette. We wont be going back to the hobbit any time soon. The service we had made Fawlty Towers look like a five star establishment.

Refurbished in a beautiful manner, décor great, comfortable and by far, looking better than it has done in years. The present owner appears to be doing his/her utmost to turn this hotel into a comfortable, show stopping place for various functions, such as a wedding venue. The views are great, the setting is lovely. The only thing, for me, that lets this place down is its menu. It is unsophisticated and more in keeping with a quality pub than a country hotel. The portions are unnecessarily large and the menu seems to focus around a grill/burger theme. It really is a delightful place in a delightful setting, the staff are helpful, for me, the menu lets it down. However, I have never stayed there and may feel differently if I had.....

This has now opened as Gabriel’s Tapas Bar. The food is delicious , freshly made and very tasty. The owners are extremely friendly. Prices are reasonable. Definitely worth a visit.

Although it was very busy, the breakfast I had was spot on. It may have taken 30 minutes but I really enjoyed it. The coffee was very tasteful and it's of good quality. Definitely going again. Staff are very friendly

We had the small breakfast which included tea. Good size teapot full and used tea leaves which you never see nowadays. Breakfast was good, the sausage had never seen small lol. Very good value for money. We had one small issue which was addressed immediately which, in my view, is the main thing so I havent deducted anything. The pub has been in the family for years and years before that a different pub. Lovely friendly welcome. Hidden gem but worth hunting out.
