All ok only the service was slow even though it was quite. Food was good, no complaints.

We go in for a carvery every now and then. The food is always good and it's never too busy. Edit... So, for the 2nd time in a row, the quality of the food was shocking. Before the quality issue, I just could clean my plate. Today, I had to leave most of it. We came for 12.00, hoping things would be a s fresh as they could. Food tasted like it was warmed up. It was hard, and the beef had a funny taste to it. My wifes food was the same except the potatoes were not edible as they were burnt. I've always had a rule, 1 bad meal happens, but 2 then I don't come back.

Good choice on the menu and at affordable prices. The place was clean and tidy. Had to order at the bar. The bar man didn’t know much about the menu, couldn’t find the skinny steak option at first, also didn’t know what sort of battered fish it was (cod? Haddock? Pollock?). When we ordered tea we were later informed they had run out of milk, (there was a Sainsbury’s 200yds away)

It was a table for 6 and served efficiently and food was lovely - will call again!

A fantastic venue for my Mums wake. Mike was brilliant and all the team couldn’t have done any more to make the event run smoothly.

Wow. What a resteraunt. In the past i have dined at some of the worlds greatest resteraunts in beautiful destinations such as Paris, Dubai & New York. But none of these compare to the spectacular food that has just passed my lips & graced my taste buds. The meer sight of the beautiful steak & ale pie that laid before me drew a tear to my eye and filled my heart with love and warmth, the likes of which I haven't felt since the birth of my child. I can honestly say that the food i had today was quite possibly the best meal I've ever had in my entire life. Not only will I recommend this establishment to my friends & family, but i will also tell the tail of the great Hitching Post that changed my life to my grand children and how it made me the man i am today...

It was amazing and great food and service

Had a great experience. Staff were so friendly and I especially love the fact they had taken note of the special request I had made as we were celebrating my daughter. They made a great effort and it was greatly appreciated. The food was great they all enjoyed the carvery and my salad was one of the nicest I've had. We will definitely be returning soon.

Great service despite it being a Sunday and busy. Carvery was the best I’ve had there yet and the kids loved it. Cater very well for coeliac and have a gluten free gravy as standard which was a big tick for me. Thanks

I've enjoyed every visit so far not a long queue for the carvery and staff are nice. Could do with more staff though as they look over worked and tired but they do an excellent job.

Food took a while to come but when it did it was fresh and hot. Really tasty food. We'll definitely be back for the food. Bathrooms are in dire need of an upgrade. Rest of the pub looks well kept and clean, bathrooms really let it down.

Excellent carvery this time. Last visit the food was dry and overcooked but this time everything has improved 100%. Tried all 4 meats which were mostly excellent, just the beef was a bit dry (plenty of hot gravy sorted it). Staff were extremely busy but were still polite and helpful. Definitely recommend another visit.

Hi the food was okay but mostly just about warm. Three of us had the carvery the meats were really nice and the rest would have been but the food is opposite the open doors to the outside space ,so again nothing is warm which is a shame because it was lovely apart from being cold and the tables needed clearing a bit quicker between courses. We did enjoy our afternoon but room for improvement.

Carvery - nice direction and good quality meats but the veg was cold. The steak in the steak and ale pie was fatty and editable!

Called in on the way from work it being my partners birthday so not wanting to cook. Now I realise that they are only “ ping meals” so I didn’t have the highest expectations . However the food was very poor. My partner and myself ordered scampi and chips with mushy peas. My Whitby ??? Scampi that was advertised as 12 pieces was infact 10 and an half, one piece being “ missing” the other had exploded so was an empty shell. The pieces were extremely small. The meal also contained a tiny portion of mushy peas that you could have done with a chisel to slice them with. The frozen chips were just about cooked but very pale an unappetising!!!. The staff came across and asked if the food was ok , I explained about the scampi , ie I was a piece missing and one piece had exploded , they thought that I was making a fuss about nothing but eventually made a point of bringing one piece across in a bowl. At the end of the day don’t advertise 12 pieces of Whitby Scampi if you aren’t prepared to provide it!!!. The scampi and chips cost £10.79 so not exactly cheap. Have had better scampi from the supermarket. All in all will stick to the carvery in future . If I want a ping meal will pop into Mac Donald’s . The meals are better.

Staff are always friendly when we come and go the extra effort to help host the children. The food was served in good time and the kids could enjoy the outdoor playground whilst waiting. Always a good family visit

Waited 45 minutes for table to be cleaned. I had to ask for it to be cleaned. Food eventually turned up 3 of our partys burgers were burnt. Ordered a wine at table had to go to bar after 15 minutes to ask where it was. Really poor

Was a massive improvement since we last visited in June 2023, last time the carvery area was dirty and full of dust. Was very clean today and the food was a lot better aswell

Food was passable Replenishing was slow as the sole Carvery Chef was overworked on his own, Was multi-tasking with No help from any other staff Service was not upfront you had to ask Wasn't sure if you ordered at the table or at the Bar Atmosphere was easygoing No loud music and No Rushing your Meal Improvement needed in the Carvery serving

Haven't been for a while, usually cheap and cheerful but my goodness, went this week and it was horrendous, super busy because they'd put 30% off vouchers through everyone's doors and not staffed for it, the guy who took our order genuinely seemed high, read it back to us twice and still put it through wrong, asked for a medium rare steak and it came well done, asked for it to be done again but they said they'd ran out and I could have something else, bearing in mind we'd already waited 70 minutes for our mains after waiting 40 minutes for starters which we had asked to come with the mains in the first place and we had a 5 month old baby with us so needed to get home. A quick tea became a night out. The chicken bites starter is nearly £6 and you get 2 tiny chicken strips and 3 popcorn chicken ridiculous. Definitely won't be back.

Went for a meal tonight .queued for ten mins to order food .no mixed grill no sirloin .think because it's 30 percent off all the expensive meals have been taken off .left and gone to Oddfellows instead

I love the food and so do my children the service was great, I often go to the hitching post its a favorite place to go.

Food was lovely staff friendly and helpful, was not too busy that you couldn't relax and enjoy yourself , we had a family meal for a birthday and the staff went above and beyond placing candles on a cake for our grandson.

Only one Real Ale on and it was like drinking flavoured water, this was a Marston's pub why not sell Pedigree?

Couldn't order food as it was going be a hour and a half,not ideal after a long day at work,very disappointed.

We visited as I had received two 30% off vouchers on main meals through my letterbox. I had the carvery and my partner had a cheeseburger and chips. I had a tomato juice and she had a tonic water. The bill came to about £20 which I thought was fair. We had booked a table in advance but there was no need as it was not busy. The service was friendly and efficient. The decor looked rather tired and there was a lack of ambience. The beef I had was excellent but the roast potatoes were too hard to eat probably having been left heated up for too long. My partner thought her meal was made up of mostly pre-frozen ingredients and was not impressed by the chips. On balance, we enjoyed our visit and will return.

The carvery was delicious! The service was good with pleasant and chatty staff. The toilets could do with a lick of paint though. All in all a nice place for our lunch.

Always love a Sunday carvery from here they are the best! 😋 Also good for burgers and other meals, it would be nice with more options though, maybe pizza and hotdogs options. Staff always polite and friendly. Good choice on drinks. Always a great atmosphere but the toilets could do with redecorating.

Great for mother's day carvery! Plenty of vegetables and sides and were cooked to great quality. A little disappointing with the amount of meat you get but that is what you pay for! Overall great food great price and great quality!

Food really poor!! Orderd sandwiches from the main menu. Very disappointing the hallumi sandwich was shocking!!

Always a very welcoming environment. Friendly staff and easy ordering process. Maybe a few more bar staff needed at busy times but appreciate that’s hard to manage sometimes. Food is always spot on however some support for the carvery server would be good, queues can get long when he is trying to replace veg/gravy etc and serve. We will be back as it’s by far the best carvery around!

Just had a lovely relax ing carvery lunch. Attentive young lady wItress who after describing each type of carvery came over to check the food was good and also when clearing the plates. The meal was excellent and great value for money

Family friendly pub and great food. They have an outdoor play area too, which is nice when its warm. Food is always on point and the prices are great for what you get. Staff are always friendly.

Very disappointed to find the gluten free menu is not actually adequate for someone who is celiac. Came here with my 12 year old son who has celiac disease, prior to enquiring about a GF menu. Placed our order for a mix grill with chips, to then be informed the order can not be fulfilled as the GF fryer had been used to fry non GF scampi. We decided to replace the chips with mash. Order placed and paid for, to then be informed the mix grill can only be cooked in the oven as the grills had been used to toast bread. Upon requesting the meat to be cooked in a frying pan, the reply was “we are unable to use a frying pan as it was already in use”. Very very disappointed. I will not be coming here again. Please do not offer GF menus if the staff are cross contaminating cooking equipment that is supposed to be used to provide a GF menu. This establishment clearly does not fully cater for customers with celiac disease. Response to your reply .. A piece of scampi accidentally fell in the GF fryer. If you are going to lie please come up with something that is actually believable. Pretty sure you said as I was placing the order “ let me just go check and make sure they haven’t cooked something else in the GF Fryer” that suggests to me it is a regular occurrence. But it is what it is.

Extremely poor portion size and poorly cooked food. The vegan tart was undercooked and translucent underneath, the carrots were drenched in an oily sweet syrup (which was disgusting), and the roast potatoes were saturated in oil. Not worth half the price they charge. I doubt anyone would believe it was prepped and cooked on-site. I suspect the tart is pre-bought frozen and the vegetables come pre-coated in syrup. Not worth the visit or the price.

Went in last Sunday, for a Sunday lunch , the food wasn't the best. Dry veg, and beef awful. Won't be returnning

Fab day. Food and staff great. 25 of us booked for mum and dad's 60 wedding anniversary and couldn't have gone any better. Majority chose the carvery but a couple chose from menu and couldn't fault any of the food. Nicola and Emily Joe looked after us along with Joanne, Ella and Mike and we weren't rushed in anyway and service was great. Shout out to the kitchen staff for fabulous food, jade, Glen, Stuart and Dylan. We will definitely be back again soon. Thanks xx

The service was excellent, very friendly. Food was really good had carvery, the leeks and cauliflower cheese was the best I’ve had. The cheese sauce tasted of cheese. Definitely recommend it.

Terrible experience, food was dry and beef wasn’t fresh tasted off also potato’s had black inside and my grandson had a black hair in his vegetable, no pictures as the lady removed and said she had witnessed other customers returning food

Saturday afternoon, went with a friend for food, was very disappointed, it has gone down hill from years ago, I had carvery and my friend had steak, my carvery, everything was dried out and not nice to eat,and my friends steak was over cooked and the mushrooms were so tiny and dry they looked like they were saved from breakfast. I will not be returning for food.

We have been coming here for the past 8 years when we fancied a roast and a drink. We've always been happy with the food and drink. HOWEVER, yesterdays visit was surprisingly disappointing. The carvery meat was covered with greaseproof paper which was unusual. We soon realised this is because the meat is being kept a lot longer than before and my gammon was dried out and practically inedible. The Kale was gritty and obviously unwashed and the rest of the veg was dried out and hard. My husband said his roast potatoes were so dried out they hardly weighed anything. My stuffing was rock hard and inedible. The beer tasted more and more sour so we both left half a drink. We are real ale drinkers and know a good pint. We will not be going there again.

We visited as a family get together of 12. We enjoyed the carvery. There were better vegetable options such as kale and leak. It was great and informal. We also took table games that we played rather than kids being on screens and we were not rushed.

The "Lunch Deal" part of your menu is totally misleading. There is NO wording on there to explain that only the dessert is £2.25. Therefore not only myself but other customers have been "gobsmacked" at the till. Will never eat at any of your establishments again!!😡

The customer service and atmosphere of the pub was brilliant and lively, and exceeded my expectations. The food was presented very nicely and tasted really good. I really enjoyed my food and my time there. I can't wait to go again.

Emily Jo and Jo looked after the 5 of us 4 adults and one child, nothing was too much trouble, food was perfect we had the Carvery the meat was cooked to perfection and child's meal from menu all perfect. Lovely atmosphere and plenty of space between tables so not crammed together with neighbouring tables.

Fantastic night, the pub provided a free New Year's Eve disco & we were able to bring kids until 10pm. Was lovely being able to celebrate New Year's outside of the house for a change. The atmosphere was fab & dj fun. All the family had a good time.

Christmas Dinner with our family, 12 of us altogether, age range from 5 to 82 and every one of us loved it. The food was lovely, the atmosphere was perfect. Not too casual, not too formal, it was just perfect for us. As soon as the Christmas tables are released for 2024 we will be booking again. Thank you to the staff who worked liked trojans - especially the guy on the carvery!

Had a carvery with my family and was pleasantly surprised at how unbelievably cheap the prices were. The food was good and tasty as you would expect from a Sunday roast and a generous portion given, (yummy pigs in blankets included) Would recommend the Hitching Post for the tasty food and 100% value for money
