Lovely food. Nice choice of meats, vegetables and potatoes. Plenty of condiments to garnish your food too. Nice family atmosphere. Good beer garden space. And courteous and helpful staff.

Nice pub, great beer garden and amazing staff who can't do enough for you. The place has recently been refurbished too. There is a great beer garden with play area for kids

We booked for a early tea at 4pm. It was a hot day so it was busy at the bar. We ordered using the app for drinks which arrived quickly. We them ordered food which came in good time. Our daughter waited a short time for vegetables at the carvery but her cauliflower cheese was worth the wait. Our food was cooked perfectly the chips were fluffy and the chicken was good quality. We are never unhappy with the service or food when we go.

Our visit could have been a disaster from the start, as I had mistakenly booked for 2 adults and forgot the child. The staff were really helpful and were able to get us a table. Food and service were fantastic again. Cannot recommend this place high enough. Thank you.

What a fantastic spot! It’s not just a great place for dining, but also perfect for enjoying a few drinks. I’m so happy I stumbled upon this gem during my travels. The warm and friendly atmosphere makes it feel like home!

Arrived at around 6.45 pm. No Gammon or turkey left and not all vegetables available and the ones left were dried up and we were told they didn't have anymore. Also no gravy. Wait for other food was 1 hour. Unacceptable. Will not be going again.

Lovely pub, lovely staff but food really let's it down. We were a party of 7 and we all ate from the menu. Food quite tasteless and over cooked.

Amazing service, loved my visit

Waited 45 minutes for table to be cleaned. I had to ask for it to be cleaned. Food eventually turned up 3 of our partys burgers were burnt. Ordered a wine at table had to go to bar after 15 minutes to ask where it was. Really poor

Aunque en nuestra visita el personal estaba muy ocupado y bajo presión el servicio que recibimos de Jo y Stuart fue excelente como siempre estos 2 miembros del personal han trabajado aquí desde que comencé a ir y esto dice mucho en esta industria. Gracias por una maravillosa velada familiar para celebrar el cumpleaños de mi papá y el día de las madres volveremos pronto.

Excelentes miembros del personal, eran muy educados con un servicio sonriente rápido. Gran relación calidad-precio, buena comida limpia y se han convertido en habituales.

Been going here for over 20 years now but not been for over a year due to moving house was definitely worth the drive and it never fails great value for money, food and the service is excellent so good to see that Joanne & Stuart are still working here from when I started going this speaks volumes them 2 really make the place and Joanne bless her apologised last night that she had not been able to speak to our party as much as they were short staffed so were very busy but we will definitely be back again soon thank you so much!

Took my wife for mother's day meal waited over an hour for food and only because I ask where our food was ,no explanation why we waited that long

The food I have had in the last few weeks has been decidedly below average. Yesterday I had lasagna which was ok the flavour well there wasn’t any, the garlic bread was the stand out on the dish. A couple of weeks ago I had a jacket potato which again had no flavour and the chilli was below par, it did not have any heat to it at all. It apparently had a make over at the beginning of the year and this was not immediately noticeable the toilets have been given a make over but it is still the same toilets and wash basins, along with the same noisy extractor fan in the toilets although this does make a vast improvement it is still lack lustre, the furniture is the same which I am not sure when they last had a decent clean.

Came for 18th, no one was really in the pub was told would be 1 hr ok fine. Food came my burger was cremated ask if could change. Next time it came out for some bizarre reason it had a mountain of sauce and pulled pork, burgers were crap. As I said we were their for an 18th so was surprised when randomly a waitress came over while eating and demanded to see I.d for a drink the birthday girl had. Which she'd being nursing for over an hour so bizarre and embarrassing. Don't know her name but I called her Karen will not be coming back.

All ok only the service was slow even though it was quite. Food was good, no complaints.

It's not a bad place to go for a drink or meal great for families great value for money

Sorry but food served 50 minutes after it's ordered it's just not acceptable, nor is only having one person serving on the bar with a queue of a dozen people. My burger was perfectly ok but it would have been good if one of the patties have not been overcooked. Must do better.

My mum mentioned it was my birthday. I got a candle in my dessert. Was a shock for us both. Thank you Chelsea and Nicola. Was very much appreciated.

First time trying this pub, stood at the area waiting to be seated, must have waited a few minutes before a young girl putting cutlery away realised we were waiting, didnt apologise, just said "you gotta a booking?", great first impressions. the staff have not heard about customer service in here, served by a young lady chewing gum, which for me is a no no, especially when her mouth is opening whilst chewing, and then greeted by "you wanna order?" then when serving our drinks, she wipes her nose and put the hand on the glass. Food was basic, but just ok. Will defo not be back and will defo not recommend.

Nice comfort food, reasonably priced compared to alot of other places, warm and inviting, backgroud. music at a good level. Over zelous with the mint sauce! Well stocked i guess!

Vastly improved since my last visit.

Mike and Nicola were great tonight, so helpful, hardworking and friendly! It was really busy and it seemed to be just the two of them but nothing was too much trouble!

Came for a meal with partner and mum

It was my birthday and I decided to have a steak , bad move ,always have the carvery or Scampi which are lovely but the sirloin steak was dreadful couldn’t cut it and was absolutely full of big chunks of gristle I could have sent it back but my husband was half way through his fish and chips I won’t be ordering steak again , this was 4.30 4th March

I had a fantastic time during our visit! The food was absolutely delicious, and the vibe in the place was really nice. Chelsea and Brooke were incredible, providing top-notch service that made the experience even better.

Chelsea kenzi and Glen were amazing. Came for a birthday meal and couldn't be any nicer or helpful. Credit to the hitching post for employing happy and friendly staff.

Carvery Food was ok but nothing special, had to have carvery or wait for 45 mins, not enough people on so service was compromised putting staff under pressure.

We had the carvery which was excellent, the beef melted in my mouth. The staff were attentive especially Mike and Nicola. We will definitely be back.

Me and my partner started coming for drinks whilst we were charging the car. After a while we started to get to know the staff who are all so lovely and welcoming. We have eaten a number of times and the food is lovely. Thank you to Chelsea, Joe and Nicola for their kindness and hospitality we now have a new local thank you

The website says it serves food to 9 pm, but I went to order food at the bar around 8 pm with the servers saying they have stopped food. I was very disappointed as the tables were also covered in dirty plates that needed to be removed

Came here with my mum for lunch we had the carvery we had to find a table without food that was left from previous customers it was very unpleasant to have to eat my food next to food that had been sat there for hours but had no other choice as there was no other clean tables available staff also stood behind the bar on their phones in plan view of customers I find this very unprofessional and also very upsetting as I loved coming here in the past but will not be coming again

Had the carvery, was very nice, good value. Excellent desert menu and both Sherry Trifle Cheesecake and Sticky Toffee Pudding exceeded expectations.

Very unsatisfactory experience, food just edible and definitely overpriced, not worth what is charged, one member of the bar staff should not be dealing with customers, her attitude and approach was disgusting, plates practically thrown on the table, belittling one of her work colleagues in front of us, couldn't force a smile or polite remark to customers, very unprofessional and unapproachable, first and last visit for us.

The young lady who served us has a problem with customer service and needs some training, she was like Jekal and Hyde

Great improvement since the refurbishment

Me and my daughter came for a quick bite to eat after visiting the local soft play. We were greeted by friendly staff members and soon found a table. We ordered food via the QR code provided and it arrived quickly via another friendly staff member. The food was great and was just what we needed to carry on with our day! Would definitely recommend to friends and family

Love the new refurbishment brightens the place up nicely. Been coming here for years and the service is always friendly and done with a smile. The price of the food has gone up as everywhere else has but still good value for money and always tasty

Went for a carvery yesterday 17th Sep and was very disappointed looking at the carvery b4 I ordered.dried up new potatoes. Over cooked carrots.rock hard stuffing.manky roast potatoes.only decent thing meat.so ordered burger and chips.nice burger.with about 8 chips.what a waste of time. Won't go again

Overall our experience was very disappointing. Upon arrival there was no-one to greet us and we were just left hanging around. When we were eventually shown to our table, we were dismayed to find not even a paper table-cloth, and the crackers were unacceptable. The table was tacky to the touch. We fully appreciate how busy staff are and under pressure, however the table staff did not smile once and we felt that we were asking a huge favour, just to order drinks. An exception to this, were the 2 staff on the carvery (red chef coat and dicky bow) who were friendly and efficient. The food was below standard, roast potatoes and pigs in blankets were barely cooked. As a family we used to come to the Hitchin Post regularly and we were expecting a special Christmas experience but this did not happen. We will not be coming again or recommending. (Table 3, 14.30, Lingley).

Came here for Christmas. Terrible service. The service staff made us feel like an inconvenience when asking for the smallest thing. They were huffing about and clearly didn't want to be there. Wait times were terrible for everything. Ruined the atmosphere and our time. Table next to us were waiting ages and they didn't clear their table that was full after starters etc. Clearly needed more staffing.

Came here for Christmas dinner, it took us 30 mins to be sat down. Another 30 mins to get starters. Half the calvery wasnt there and we have now been waiting for an hour for puddings. You expect delays because its Christmas and busy but when you see other tables being served quicker than yours it gets ridiculous. Its so quiet normally and staff are nice but at Christmas it goes to pot.

Two of us have previously enjoyed meals here and thought it would be nice for our xmas get together. We ordered the festive meals. We were all in agreement the carvery should have been alot warmer!! Pork was a particular choice but told it is only offered on Sundays even though it was on the menu. One of our deserts was hard and inedible. Two of our party urgently needed a couple of visits to the toilet while there, they both had prawn cocktail so not sure if this was the cause. All in all we were all left disappointed.

Had our Xmas dinner here again. Food was good but service could have been better.

We had our works Christmas lunch at the Hitching Post and everyone thought the food was lovely. The service was great too and Emily, Nicola, Jamie and Mike looked after us and made us feel very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and we all had a great time.

We ordered our food and drink via the table service qr code our wait time was OK wasn't too long food was good at a fair price the only negative is there is no alcohol free beer on draught and is expensive in the bottle

Family meal. We booked a table for 12 people when we arrived we were given two tables not ideal. We sat down and ordered food after 15 minutes. Nearly an hour after we had arrived we had to go to the bar to ask where are food was. The staff then brought the food out, a lot of the food was cold having been left on the so called hot plate for a while. The carvery was great plentiful but I wonder why when there was only a teaspoon full of cauliflower left did they wait to replenish it. Finally we had a gift card that no one could work out how to use so we had to pay the full balance

I booked the table on line for 4 adults.in the additional info notes I said we needed 1 high chair. When I arrived the table has 3 chairs plus a highchair. When I said it was for 4 adults I was told something along the lines on " love it when people book tables wrong" I immediately explained how I booked online and was told " we see that as 3 adult's and 1 high chair, next time add 5 adults. Firstly this should never be a response to a customer query re a missing seat. Secondly how in earth can a 4 adults plus additional high chair booking even be considered as that's a table for 3 adults and a high chair?! Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. My feedback for your member of staff is do not say the first thing that comes into your head, take a minute and say "No problem will get you another chair." No need to even say what she did was godsmacked if i am honest. Feedback for bookings made on line, add something that allows customer to books adults, children and high chairs. Very poor service from this member of staff. As for the food it was average nothing stood out, did not have all 4 meats due to beef and turkey looking like they were cooked the week before. I do not normally leave bad reviews but this needed to be said. A very unforgettable experience and not for a good reason

Cracking place with a decent food selection my partner said the beef was the best beef she’s ever had , I got a burger that was great . Desert of a chocolate fudge cake was excellent too.
