Had an excellent meal for 10 of us here. Highly recommend the scotch egg, was wrapped in black pudding and was an amazing bite. Fish and chips for main, chips were the signature triple cooked - woof. Was drinking vodka lime, the vodka was Black Cow i think? Great flavour and the freshly squeezed lime juice was superb.

[UPDATE: WENT A YEAR LATER ON 4/10/24 ... STILL AWESOME! ] ................... Fantastic Michelin starred gastropub in Bray. Stones throw away from Heston's Fat Duck. You can actually just come here and have a drink - which is fantastic! Limited selection of what's on Tap; but decent. The bar snacks are amazing... had Scotch egg, sausage rolls and triple cooked chips. DELIGHTFUL! service was great - nice guy called Massimo. Would definitely come back! RECOMMEND.

Took my Dad for lunch today. Fantastic place to visit. Service was on point. Drinks and starters of sourdough bread and scotch egg were superb. Cooked to perfection. We had fish and chips (our favourite) and they did not disappoint- the best chips I’ve ever tasted, haddock was amazing with a great crunch, the minted peas were exceptional. Worth every penny. The team and service were on top of their game. Loved the whole experience- thank you

It’s quite a small menu but everything on it is cooked to perfection and of very high quality. Got to mention the lemon tart. Staggeringly good. Wine is a bit pricey but of course there are some very good wines to be had. Service was very friendly. Not super slick but nobody was in a rush including us. Kind of London 1* prices so maybe a bit strong but ballpark. Very quaint and pleasant building. Atmosphere a bit flat. Still very good though.

We had the best experience tonight. It was our 5th Wedding anniversary and the staff hand wrote a card for us. We asked to move table and staff obliged with no hassle. Our waitress Ella was amazing. Not only did she attend to our every need she also engaged in conversation when prompted and was funny. Her funny met our funny and suited the vibe of the restaurant. That was just the staff. The food was amazing. Definitely recommend the Beef Wellington. Second booking coming up

A superb Sunday lunch, at a reasonable price. Certainly not a budget option, although a Michelin star at a price many will find appropriate, it is unpretentious which was great for what we wanted. Service was exceptional, and every similar to Dinner by Heston at the Mandarin. Staff were incredibly well versed, making even great recommendations of non alcoholic option, the “sparkles” which were non alcoholic were great! Food was superb as expected, the only slight issue was our gravy and veg arrived cold, although was swiftly fixed.

We were impressed with the location of the Hind's Head in Bray but not once inside. We were completely disappointed and felt the lack of friendliness let the Hind's Head down. Upon walking through the door the lady standing at the desk scurried off mumbling something as she went. We were then greeted by what I can only assume was a manager who did the formalities of name of reservation but no friendly conversation and this pretty much continued for the rest of the meal. We were shown to our table and left with menus to choose our food. After 15 minutes of waiting time, we headed to the bar to order our drinks. This appeared not to go down well but to be honest waiting 15 minutes for someone to come and take a drinks order is not acceptable. The fixed menu of £55.00 for two courses was the only option, no A La Carte was available. We ordered the Lemon Salad and the Beef Roast. Lemon salad was very well presented and tasted delicious. Beef Roast, came with all the trimmings and was very nice. Although the food was very good and of excellent quality, the service really let it down. At this price range and the service charge of 12.5% we expected a better service than the one we received. We knew when we booked our table we had a two hour window but as we got to 1 hr 40 minutes in, we were asked if we wanted coffee and if we did could they move us to the terrace as our table was needed in the the next 5 minutes. The restaurant had empty tables available, so seemed odd to move on the dining guests. All in all the food is very good quality but the service really does let it down and it is overpriced.

We could only get in on Tuesday which was the bar snacks & a small choice of mains rather than the full menu but I would highly recommend visiting if you are in the area. We had four of the bar snacks & a steak for mains. The scotch egg was a highlight along with the sauce that accompanied the steak but all of the food was delicious. If you choose to visit you won’t be disappointed.

We ate in the restaurant, second time of visiting, my gluten-free diet was very limited to choose on the menu, service wasn’t great maybe because it was mid week but having dined in a French restaurant the night before in poole. in comparison the restaurant has slipped since we visited a year ago, a shame as I will not return based on that experience, the food itself was delicious, just limited menu, not the best table service, I hope the constructive criticism will help you improve

The food was very nice. Mushroom parfait and Devils on horseback were fantastic. In the same time, the cocktails were so poor. Cooling Cucumber with gin and vermouth was like water with acid cucumber, looks like zero alcohol. Then I ordered Negroni. Actually it was really like without gin also. Been here several times in the course of 8 years and this time it was simply disappointing. Staff: friendly but we needed to chase them and no proactivity, their training is not even close to what you should offer in a Michelin starred venue. Food okay but does not match expectations or price. Especially: no triple cooked chips (although advertised in the booklet on the table) which was one of the reasons we went and the sweets offered in the desert bag did not match the description in the booklet that came with it. We love Heston’s restaurants and cookbooks but we will definitely not return to his pub we have loved for many years.

Let me start by saying that I have been to The Fat Duck twice (albeit over a long period of time) and I have seen the Hinds Head with it's 1 Michelin Star. I went with my son on Sunday 11th August to Hinds Head with a table booked for 2pm. This was for a Sunday Lunch at £70 per head plus service and excluding drinks Booking online was easy and it felt "special" - can we have a photo to recognise you, why are you coming etc. To be honest I had booked originally the week after providing a photo and a reason for coming, however I managed to get a booking on 11th so cancelled my original booking and quickly "nabbed" the booking I wanted in the first place without putting in a photo and reason. On arrival, they were busy and there was a queue - I see this as a positive, not a negative. When I got to the hostess lecturn at the front, the hostess did not acknowledge me and chatted (about work) behind her. No "I'll just be a moment" or putting me first. This was not a good start. I appreciate conversations need to happen, but at an expensive restaurant where you pay for the food and service this was not acceptable. After chatting, she asked for my name and took a while to find the info. I was directed to the first table in the corner and told I need to "skoot" in to get in properly. No question asking if the table was suitable, I even looked a little unhappy, but this was not acknowledged. My son could see I was irritated and asked if we could move. The lady said I needed to look and make my mind up as they are very busy. I do appreciate this is the case, but it was the way I was dealt with. I feel fussy saying this, but at a restaurant such as Hinds Head this is not how I wanted to be treated. I paid for the Sunday roast and ordered the lamb of which I got 2 small slices, with the usual roast on the side (e.g. yorkshire pudding - tasted hard and bland, potatoes, vegetables) I do not eat a huge amount but easily finished the food, after starter (of Terrine which did not blow me away) The waiting staff were very good, helpful and even moved us upstairs happily when it got very hot downstairs. Overall, honestly I felt for a 1 Michelin starred restaurant/pub and the cost, this was not what patrons expect. I would not recommend this over other lovely pubs as it wasn't "special" in any way.

We were very much looking forward to the experience as it was our Anniversary celebration and had high expectations... we were slightly disappointed. We had to wait quite a long time for the food to arrive. There were long intervals between courses. The starters were quite small. I ordered a salad and was disappointed with the portion size. It tasted good though but could have been more. My lamb was very difficult to cut through. There was a lot of fat. My husband had to assist me in cutting it up. It took so long that it became cold. I did not enjoy it in the end. The meal we had was not worth the price we paid. The waitresses were very pleasant but the waiters appeared as if they did not want to be there. Considering the restaurant's reputation and reviews, we had anticipated a better experience. Apologies for the comments.

Tried to walk in for an evening dinner, on a Monday at about 8pm. We were ignored by the 3 people behind the bar, another at the desk and another walking around. After a few minutes I disturbed the waiter behind the desk and asked if we could eat outside, he said "no problem you can eat outside and order at the bar" - great, I thought. Then he quickly got our attention and said they can't serve food outside. No attempt to then sit inside, no attempt to book in at a later date, no effort at all. For a first visit to somewhere that's been recommended by many friends who have visited, I left with a feeling of never wanting to return. A shame as I live 10 minutes away and would likely have returned often.

Had wanted to try this pub for some time and this was our first visit. We had booked a table in the restaurant on a Saturday for lunch. Firstly, the service - we were served by 3 or 4 male and female staff and all of them were very attentive and friendly, could not ask for more from the service side of things. The food was as we had hoped for - wonderful. Party members had the scotch egg, the mushroom parfait and the popcorn chicken and all were deemed to be absolutely delicious - my son said the chicken was the best chicken he'd ever had in his life. We then all had the famous haddock and triple cooked chips. Quite possibly the best fish and chips I have ever had - amazing batter and the fish tasted super-fresh. For desserts we tried the Eton mess, the imperfect sweet shop (a mix of hand-made chocolates), lemon tart, and the millionaire shortbread - again, all very, very nice with top notch presentation, ingredients and taste. As a little extra when one of the team asked if our visit was for an occasion and we said yes it was to celebrate two birthdays, they brought us a couple of birthday cards - what a great little touch. Our only regret was that we did not get a chance to properly thank all of the serving staff, but hopefully they will see this review - thank you to the kitchen and serving team, we will be returning !

Thoroughly enjoyed my meal at this quaint little Heston B Inn, neighbour to the acclaimed Fat Duck. It’s a lovely little spot with bags of historic quirk & character. And who knew that Prince Philip held his stag do here in 1947?! The restaurant menu is fairly concise, an offer of poshed-up pub classics such as Cumberland pie & fish & chips as well as a selection of high end steaks. My visit was for lunch where you also have the option of a 3 course menu (including a glass of excellent Prosecco) for £50. Dishes were tasty & unfussed. The well heeled staff provided excellent, attentive service, they were all incredibly well drilled, knowing the menu & its finer components, inside out. A more casual menu is available in the bar.

The starters were tasty but cool and some slightly over cooked. The pea soup was very late arriving and much too salty. The mains were a disappointment- the steaks (£60) were overseasoned with salt and the sauce almost inedible and tasteless due to too much salt. The fish was tasty but the sauces were not - a horrible curry sauce and a bland unidentifiable potato sauce. Some of the chips were over cooked, hard and inedible. On the plus side the, tiny, chicken pies were full of flavour and the sides of beans were tasty. The menu is not a feast of delights and has barely changed (only for the worst) since I was there 5 years ago. The pub is glorious but the food was not - added to which a member of our group was given an out of date drink - bergamot. Over priced and very poor quality.

After some time we went back today for lunch. We decided to come because we watched the Discovery series “Roux Down The River” when Michel Roux (ex 2* Le Gavroche) visited and we thought if he liked the food, why not? We went for the a la carte menu, initially ordering drinks, starters & mains. The starters were nice, but really bizarrely the main courses arrived literally fifteen minutes later as we were still working on the starters. When asked were we ready for the mains, we had to tell the server; err no! Why didn’t they work out the kitchen clearly made a mistake in their timing? To be fair the server then apologised and took them away. After an appropriate intermission, newly cooked mains arrived; they were nice. The service was friendly, if a little eccentric. So when compared to say either the Hand & Flowers or The Coach (both in Marlow) do we anticipate returning anytime soon. Sadly, I don’t think so. In summary versus other Michelin restaurants it’s good, but not a standout.

First, this is a beautiful, historic pub and restaurant. I would kill for this to be my local! Second, staff were all great! Now, the review of the meal. We had the Scotch Egg and Devils on Horseback. Both were solid. The claim to fame for the Scotch Egg is the runny yolk, and it was as advertised. The Devils were essentially rumaki with a date. Good, yes, out of the park? Eh. Next we had the Pea and ham soup. This was also solid, but for some reason served just warm and not hot. And the herb chosen to season was mint, of which I am not a big fan. The ham was excellent and the peas tasted like they had just been hand picked from the garden, so props for that bit of excellence! (And I like some kind of bread with soup, but none was offered.) We also had the Ham Hock terrine. This was also very good, if a bit on the salty side. But it is ham, so how can I quibble. It was delicious. This did come with a bit of toast, also good! My wife had the Duck entree, and it was top notch. Seasoned to perfection, but the star with the veg underneath: peas, again, super fresh, with grilled or sauteed greens, and no mint! So really terrific! I had the famous fish and chips. The fish was as advertised, crispy and tender. But no sauces on offer, and I am a tartar or remoulade fan, so I thought that was a miss. Fish and especially fish sandwiches are a thing in Pittsburgh, so I have high expectations, and this may have been the best prepared fried fish I have had, but the lack of sauce hurt the effort. Finally, the chips. These are famous, and thy=ey were excellent. The best bite was the one with nothing on it. The "sauces" were all big misses. First was the curry sauce. Never understood this and never will, and I make curries at home at least once a week. Second, mushy peas with an overload of mint. Don't understand this choice, either, as there are so many herbs that would complement the chips and fish better. Third, pureed potatoes with salt and vinegar. This was very good, but why you'd want that on a chip is beyond me. Finally they had a spray bottle of onion flavored vinegar. This was pretty good, but lets face it, the Belgians have the correct answer to dipping chips and it is a fresh mayonnaise, preferably with garlic or some other infusion. And, being from the home of H. J. Heinz, plain old ketchup beats everything that was offered. This all, plus a beer came to around 150 quid, so for a Michelin experience, very reasonable! Overall, a good, if not great experience. As a bonus, it was only 25 minutes from the auto rental pickup at Heathrow. So wherever you are headed after arrival, this is a quick and easy detour. And Bray itself was very scenic and worth a stroll.

We’ve just had the worst service at a bar since I can remember. We ordered 3 drinks received no greeting, no eye contact which was a bad start. Then asked if they had a beer garden and received a blunt ‘no’ as an answer. He passed the card machine across not looking or talking - wow this is someone who should not be in food service. Well done to the rest of the team who all smiled, said hi and asked us if we wanted more drinks - a shame he trashed the start of the night. Each meal clearly is carefully curated, with the waiting staff being able to explain any queries of allergens or flavours etc. From bar, to waiting staff, we were taken care of. Second time, even better! A ‘do not miss’! I was impressed with this place in October, 2023, so having returned to the area I wanted to see if it was as good as I thought that first time. Consistency is a mark of a great restaurant, and a great chef, kitchen staff., and wait staff. I was not disappointed. The staff was as friendly and engaged as before. Obviously well-trained, they ask diners if they have any allergies, and take responses back to the kitchen. Then they report on the chef’s offers to tweak the menu, or on the exact quantities of the allergens in various dishes. And, like last time, the staff all seem really happy to be at work! The venue itself is a stunning 17 th century pub (i believe i have recalled that correctly) so the atmosphere is great, with exposed beams, original fireplaces, quirky staircases, and leaded casement windows. Luckily, the food served here meets the amazing standard set by the venue. I had a glass of the pinot grigio, which was excellent. Just puckery enough to set off the food i planned to order. First up were Devils on Horseback: warm prunes soaked in Armagnac, stuffed with mango chutney, and wrapped in pancetta. Served warm, they are almost orgasmically delish! Next, the Crabbucino, which is an espresso cup of crab bisque topped with coffee powder no doubt made by grinding coffee beans into a powder. Alongside there is a cold shredded crab open face sandwich topped with shaved lightly pickled fennel. Extremely yummy! I found the soup just a tiny shade too salty…maybe the chef felt it needed it to stand up to the coffee powder, but a little less salt would have worked just as well, and i would have preferred it. But that is just me. The sandwich was great, but i tasted more fennel than crab. But overall pretty good. For the main i had fish and chips…the classic triple cooked chips, and three accompaniments including minted green peas, chippie sauce and curry sauce. Cleverly, the malt vinegar is served in a small spray bottle so you can get exactly how much you want. This was possibly the best fish and chips i have ever had. Having said that, the remarkably crispy batter was almost too crispy, as it was difficult to eat neatly LOL. Also, the ratio of fish to batter seemed a bit off to me. I woukd have liked a larger fish to be paired with such a robust batter. The peas were fantastic, and the only thing wrong with them was that the serving was too small. Maybe people typically don’ t eat their peas, or not all of them, so the serving has been sized down. I scraped the little ramekin, which was the size of a small mis en place container, to get every last bite. The two sauces were served in the same size containers. The curry sauce was remarkable: not very spicy, but multi layered, with a depth and an umame flavor that really made it sing. Heston’s chippy sauce is meant to taste like the bottom of a chip container: buttery, lemony, and potato-ey. And it did taste like the chips at the bottom of the fish and chip bag. But i wondered if this sauce was maybe overshadowed by the actual fish and chips, which made the sauce, with a similar flavor profile, a little much of a muchness. I could, however, see it served with roasted broccolini or a similar veg. Even brussels sprouts. It would be a great contrast to the strong, sharpish flavors of those veg and have a chance to really be appreciated. The triple cooked chips were good. How could triple cooked chips be anything else? You could taste the actual potato, which was lovely. It wasnt just a bland vehicle for the fried exterior. I noticed the food was served on a piece of printed paper, meant to echo the iconic newspaper wrapping for fish and chips. Nice touch, but it became soggy and shredded a little bit as i progressed through the meal. I would omit this. Maybe invest in oval platters with a newspaper design printed on them, to be used exclusively for the fish and chips. Too full for dessert, i was nonetheless pleased to see a little goodie from the kitchen presented to me, to finsh off. My server, who was engaging and knowledgeable, called it a petit four. Technically, these must be square, and this was not. But I digress. This was a choux bun the size of a donut hole, dusted with sugar…possibly vanilla sugar…and filled with blood orange whipped cream. Delicious! I would call this a mignardise, as these do not have to be square. I have heard of half moon shaped petits fours, but these still have sponge and layers, so that would be a petit four as far as that is concerned. But the filled choux i think would be more properly a mignardise. Oversll, a place not to be missed if you are in the area. Seriously delicious food, served by happy, knowledgable people, in gorgeous historic surroundings. What’s not to love?

The prices have gone through the roof. Over £300 for a Sunday lunch is a lot even for a Michelin star restaurant. The quality of the food on the whole was good, though the lamb was rather fatty. Service was excellent and very attentive. Unfortunately won’t be visiting as often as it’s now too expensive.

Beautiful food and very relaxed service. Food very much worthy of its michelin star. We're just annoyed that we're not local enough to pop in here regularly. Highly reccomended

We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Hinds Head. We had been around 7 or 8 years ago and loved it then. We were curious whether anything had changed or if the high standards back then had carried forward. We were not disappointed in what we discovered. Everything was, and still is, top notch. From the welcome at the door to the last friendly goodbye, everything was superb. The food was outstanding. I could not resist getting the pea soup (I had it on my last trip and had been thinking about it ever since) and it was every bit as delicious as I remembered. If you have nothing else besides that and their triple cooked chips (literally the best outside of Belgium) - you will leave completely satisfied. Thanks for another memorable night! We look forward to the next and will be sure it is not another 8 years before returning.

Fantastic evening in this wonderful restaurant. The ambience and character of the very old building make this a very special place. Then comes the food which is world class (the crab soup to name but one thing was incredible). The service is friendly and relaxed yet still very efficient. Huge thank you to the friends who invited us - we will definitely go again when we want a special treat!

We have been to the Hinds Head in Bray many times over the years, and we have never had a bad element to the experience. Most recently we went for sunday lunch and as we expected it was everything sunday lunch should be. Perfectly cooked meat, delicious vegetables, utterly amazing roast potatoes, Staff who pay just the right amount of attention and never intrude, a deightfully warm atmosphere, and marvellous wine. We left smiling and happy, and probably needing an afternoon nap..

We went with high expectations and unfortunately had a pretty average experience for food. Snacks were the highlight, though the scotch egg wasnt as good as the ham croquettes. We've had much better chips at the old bell in Wooburn. Pork belly again pretty average, with a nice pearl barley risotto. Warm chocolate pudding was nice but couldn't make up for the rest. Service was exemplary.

We spent £250 on lunch and on our way out, none of the staff could be bothered to say goodbye. It was our second and last time at the Hinds Head, unfortunately it wasn’t a Michelin star level experience. Shame as it used to be wonderful.

I really rate the hinds head, food was amazing (a tad salty), ambience was good and staff were attentive. I loved the quirky nature of the food and fun touches. The pea and ham soup, macha trifle and the legendary triple cooked chips. I've been yo loads of starred restaurants and for me on value beats the hand and flowers which is over priced.

Wonderful night out for those wishing to dip their toe into the Michelin starred dining experience without breaking the bank. Everything was outstanding, we all had a taste of each others starters and meals and it was all considered, balanced and well… perfect. It really was one of my best dining experiences in my life to date.

Really enjoyed the food. Scotch egg brilliant, fillet steak and chips yum yum. We were celebrating my daughter’s 17th and all six of us enjoyed our meal. The downside was the service was slow on drinks and one waitress was curt and seemed annoyed when she was asked anything - she was definitely in the wrong trousers and that slightly killed our mood. Meal for six just under £500 with no dessert and little booze. So I would say - lovely food, overall good atmosphere but some service providers need to raise their game.

Booked a dinner for two for 4pm on a Sunday (only slot available). Due to traffic incidents we were running late 15 minutes, so we informed the staff well in advance and were told that if we do not arrive within 4:15 we are unable to order food. We knew what we wanted so phoned ahead to place a food order if necessary but were told this was not possible. In the end we made it by 4:13, but our table was not even ready yet and we didn't have the chance to even place a food order before 4:40, so why all the nonsense on the phone? Given that there is an expensive cancellation fee and the stress of trying to make it there with terrible unpredictable traffic (I drove over 3 hours to make it here) I would have hoped to have some accommodation from the restaurant. Regarding the food, I ordered fish and chips. The fish was excellent, however half of the chips didn't keep their structure so were burnt into pure crunchy oil (no softness left at all, see attached photo). It's a shame since the other portion of chips we had was great, and I am surprised a Michelin restaurant can serve chips like this on a plate! Personally I also found them too salty but your taste may vary.

Although we didn’t book, we were told that we could eat in the bar area, we were more than happy. A fire was lit and it created an atmosphere perfect for an English pub. Well versed staff told us all about the food and my fish and chips was pretty amazing. Fresh cod inside very crispy batter, with some tasty dips. Could eat this everyday, all excellent.

Short version, as I have a hangover.... Scotch egg, not as wonderful as it used to be, but still great. Fish and Chips, amazing. Crab sandwich and soup, stunning. Stone bass, delicious. Rib Eye with Reform sauce. Incredible flavour, spoiled by overly fatty rib eye....

I'm often on the fence when it comes to Michelin restaurants. On the face of it, the food should be amazing, and leave you with a sense of indulgence. Instead, you leave hungry, with a heavy dent on your credit card. I'm not sure what the attraction to these types of restaurants are. Maybe we're all too pompous to know when we're being fooled. Our portions were ridiculously small. The crab sandwich and broth was quite literally half a slice of toast with crab paste, and, no kidding, an espresso cup half filled with over salted soup, that tasted like brine. The steak pudding was so heavily salted (they call it rich) that I couldn't eat it, which was a shame because I was starving. I'm sure loads of people will see this review and think "but it's Heston Blumenthal. It's supposed to be rich, tiny portions that cost a fortune. That's how we keep the regular people out." To them I say, yes, you are right, and you are welcome to it. Top tip...eat before you go.

The food was absolutely amazing, we had a 4 course set menu, with 2 options per course. Being 2 people we managed to try all the food and it was all so good. Even the house wine was amazing! The ingredients were extremely fresh and that was reflected in the taste. We were also given complimentary fresh bread with butter and a couple of cherry and chocolate "balls" after dessert. We had a voucher from Buy a Gift and for the 2 was 160£ (without tip), for the 4 courses and a glass of wine each, a lot less than I expected for a Michelin star place. Staff and atmosphere were nice too. Recommend 100%!

First time to the The Hinds Head last night no occasion just fancied somewhere different. The food was superb even though one of the dishes I ordered was not to my taste that was my fault for stepping outside what I would normally order but everything else was superb! I read the reviews before I went and saw a few people moaning about the staff ! I think the people that said the staff was not up to standard are people that will always have to moan about something because that is what they like doing ! We was had a fantastic service and Dovile was so lovely she really made experience a lovely one! Will 100% be returning soon loved it top marks all round ! Thanks Hinds Head!

I've had the pleasure of dining at The Hind's Head on multiple occasions, and each visit has been nothing short of fantastic. The food here consistently impresses with its amazing flavours and beautifully presented dishes, truly showcasing the best of British cuisine. What really stands out, aside from the exceptional culinary experience, is the staff's willingness to accommodate us, even on short notice. Their friendly and efficient service makes every visit feel special and appreciated. The Hind's Head is more than just a restaurant; it's a testament to superb dining and excellent customer service. My friend and I booked a table for Dinner last Saturday, hoping for a lovely quiet relaxed meal. The food was great but upon arrival there was a very loud drunken party going on so the noise in the bar was appalling. We asked for a quiet corner but our evening was spoilt. Surely if they have a party booked, wouldn't it be better to put them in a private room ? We will never go back there again.
