The George on The Green in Windsor and Maidenhead

Excellent ambiance and food with a great atmosphere all round! Highly recommended. Felt very welcome and will definitely be returning! Super for family events.

We had a friendly welcome on arrival and were shown to our table. There was a large menu, a set menu and the “Daily specials” as well. My brother chose the liver and bacon. A very large portion arrived. The liver was cooked beautifully and the mashed potato accompanying it was nice and soft. I chose the seafood salad ( I always like to choose from their “ daily specials board), which included a very generous portion of smoked salmon, crab and mackerel along with slices of French bread and butter and an equally generous portion of salad. Although I have never bothered with a review before now, my brothers and I have been meeting here every 4-6 weeks for about 17 years. Rarely have we had any complaint. I think the price is reasonable for the freshly cooked meals they provide. There is also a truly delightful outside area for those warmer days!

We booked to bring friends. Not sure if this establishment is trying to be a good restaurant, or a pub for locals. Trying too hard to be something for everyone & it doesn’t work. We sat for ages between courses, while the young staff stood around looking at their phones & chatted. We were waiting 15 minutes b before it was noticed we had finished our dinners. The restaurant area only had two other couples in dining, so the staff didn’t have the excuse of being rushed off their feet. The food was ok, nothing special. On our visit there was a Rugby match being played on a tv, in the small bar area & the noise made our dining experience poor. If we had been told this was being shown, we wouldn’t have booked. I have noticed that this establishment are now trying to offer all sorts of events to pull clientele in. Maybe they need to to concentrate on doing one thing well, to build up a good reputation. At the moment it seems geared to being a pub for the local in crowd.

We come for a family breakfast at the pub every Saturday morning and it is delightful. The staff are friendly, the food is delicious and the green makes for a good outdoor option for kids.

This review is a bit late, but when we visited, we enjoyed it so much, I wanted to review it for others. We were passing through the beautiful area and stopped for Sunday lunch. Food was excellent and the pub was very cozy/inviting. We try to visit as many pubs as possible when we are in the UK, and this is one of our favorites. Would absolutely visit again and highly recommend it others.

We called in on a busy Sunday lunch time just for a snack and sat in the bar area with many locals. Service and food was excellent but when the staff offered out roast potatoes to each table that was just such a lovely touch during this festive season. Thank You :-)

Love this pub! Great food and staff.

Past its prime. This pub could be so lovely and the location is ideal but the environment is cramped, outdated and even a bit grungy. It needs to be gutted and completely refurbished—get those ceilings raised and let in some light! The service was pleasant enough but when my friend asked for a latte or cappuccino, they looked decidedly worried. They could only give her a cup of black coffee with a bit of cream on the side. What proper eating establishment doesn’t have a modern coffee machine? Can’t speak to the food but we will never return to this pub. For the price of eating or drinking out these days, we need a much nicer, cleaner, more inviting ambiance.

Went there with the Lions club of Maidenhead for our Christmas meal. Fantastic food and the staff were amazing .

Todays world of expensive restaurants means you need to stand out to see customers return. But the welcome was average at 6pm and we’d not booked The food was definitely ok arriving very swiftly. But the staff were not experienced. Meal for 2 with two courses expensive. £80. So headline good food average service and better to buy and cook at home.

Excellent restart of operation. There were some good ales and the special menu had excellrnt starters at a good price. I hope the will welcomr morris dancers in the summer. I dance there more than once a year.

Food was lovely! But what was even more lovely was the customer service from Joel! Thank you! He accommodated our requests so kindly with a smile.

Fitted us in on a very busy Windsor Half Marathon Sunday, a lady even came out to the garden to say they had found us a table inside. All staff were very friendly and efficient, the food was excellent and served quickly.

Came for the Mac n cheese as advertised on website. Not available. Disappointed diner

After a morning spent in a ubiquitous cafe in Maidenhead( shall remain nameless!) it was refreshing to visit the George on the Green in Holyport. Lovely atmosphere, food and hospitality.. exactly what one is looking for on a dreary London day. Thanks to Dawid and Lucy. Plus Jay made us a great Irish Coffee.

Lovely old pub (mind your head) on the quintessential English Green at Holyport. Well presented and delicious lunch menu. Good value and generous portions. Good ales. Nice outside terrace.

Great food and drink with friendly staff, we will be back

Visited for lunch, lots of tables were reserved so worth making a booking. Enjoyed 2 course lunch for £17, I had thai green curry which was nice but could have been more spicy. Dessert was roulade. Other diner had mackerel pate followed by fish cakes. All well presented and staff were attentive and helpful.

Took four US clients here on Sunday. All expectations were met or exceeded. Holyport is a beautiful, quiet village.

What a wonderfull establishment. Excellent menu with different choices. The food was cooked and presented superbly. Staff were attentive without being overbearing and the final bill good value for money. Would defiantly recommend a visit.

Couldn’t be happier with this place and will definitely be going back. We arrived at 1pm on Father’s Day with no booking, having been let down by another restaurant. The staff here really turned our day around - they were all really welcoming and efficient and had a real nothing’s too much trouble attitude. Despite warnings service might be a bit slower because they’d squeezed us in, the food came quickly and was of a really high standard. We all really enjoyed our main meals and desserts. Definitely recommend!

Cosy pub with great food! We’ve come here for lunch and they have some really nice sandwiches and also dinner and the food options are varied. It’s a lovely setting too.

Sadly, a disappointing Sunday lunch with friends. The portions were big, but it didn't really seem to taste of what it should do. The gravy was very salty!! The payment machine broke down- nearly an hour to pay the bill, then to be told .... our till can't split a bill!!! Really!! Would we go back? Probably not. Not one of our better Sunday lunches. 😞

This venue was recommended to us by 2 different people neither which are local so their reputation is widely known, The atmosphere was fun and relaxed which is a great reflection on the attitude of the staff and management. Here for a quick drink Saturday afternoon. Food finished at 3pm

This was my first visit back to the George for a few years. On a Friday night it was very busy - a good sign. The food and service was excellent and there’s a good ambience too. We had prawns to start - delicious. My wife had the duck for main and I had venison from the specials. Good portions and really tasty. The super friendly and lovely waitress recommended the fudge cake for dessert and she twisted my arm. I’m glad she did! It was awesome. We will visit again. A lovely Friday night meal

First time visiting, although had driven past many times. Booked for lunch. Very good lunch specials (2 courses for £17), separate other menu which was very good. Good service -Rebellion and Fullers beers.

Lunchtime. Good menu. £17 for 2 courses. Great welcome and service. Good draft beer. But too noisy due to birthday party for 14 people.

Table booked by telephone prior to visit. Restaurant busy on arrival, very nice ambiance within made up by some locals and visitors to the village, made very welcome by staff. Drinks and menu quickly provided, I chose the Wholetail Breaded Scampi from the lunchtime menu and my partner chose the smoked salmon crostini from the two course menu. Both of our main courses were absolutely delicious, my partner had a beautifully presented berry cheesecake pudding. and I a coffee. The whole meal was presented by very attentive staff who were duely rewarded, we are not villagers but are local, will soon be back.

WOW! Christmas Dinner was amazing. Jen and her team did amazing their service was amazing food was tasty and fresh. Very accommodating and attentive, highly recommend and would go back again any day!!

Great atmosphere, the food was absolutely scrumptious. I had the calves liver, and it’s the nicest I have ever tasted, cut like butter. My partner had the fish n chips and again in was just Devine. Highly recommend the service ambiance and food were fabulous. My new favourite place to eat

It appears that the pub is well-liked by the locals. On the 9th of December, some regulars and their Korean friends came here for lunch. Due to the Christmas season, the place was bustling, and unfortunately, there were no available tables for us. However, the amiable pub owner kindly offered us a temporarily reserved table before relocating us to another spot. We opted for fish and chips along with a tasty Thai curry, both of which were delightful. We truly relished our meal at this charming establishment.

Excellent service and delicious meal. We all had the early bird menu and enjoyed every course. Busy with a good atmosphere.

We travelled from Maidstone to do a bungie jump. Stopping off here for lunch, made the perfect day. Good food fab atmosphere. Would definitely visit again

Lovely,warm restaurant/pub, lovely kind customer's and excellent atmosphere due to the friendly welcoming staff, as soon as you enter you are immediately felt like you are the only concern and you feel relaxed instantly, you are welcome to just have a drink and not pressurised to take a table for dinner or lunch, the specials and menu are tempting and is dog friendly, they serve traditional bitters and premium lagers with an excellent range of wines to suit all tastes, would recommend to everyone and anyone 😀 😊

On the one hand a couple of the waitresses tried quite hard. On the other they were ridiculously under staffed, got our order wrong twice, and the food was honestly very poor. I have no idea how others have rated it as good - maybe we were unlucky - but we had four different main courses between us and all were poor, for different reasons. The meat in the roasts was ok, but the potatoes and the Yorkshire’s awful. The duck salad has very little duck in it and what was there was over cooked and in a sickly sweet sauce. Overall - too much money for what it was, which was a crowded and disappointingly low quality Sunday lunch.

Visited for Sunday lunch . Such a lovely old fashioned pub with a good, varied menu. Food is well cooked, plentiful and tasty and the staff were kind, cheerful and attentive.

Booked a lunch here to celebrate my son's birthday. Unfortunately the staff were unable to find our booking made only 4 days previously by phone and the person who took the booking asked us 3 times to spell our name so it wasn't a forgettable conversation. They did find us a table but didn't explain that we only had the table for an hour so we didn't end up having quite the leisurely celebratory lunch we had expected. However, the food we had was very good, although the calves liver was not up to their usual high standard, and the staff are very friendly.

Came here for lunch on a Friday with our walking group. The place is obviously very popular, but they could accommodate 17 of us. Service was good, despite the fact we only had sandwiches and chips (both of which were very good). Had to pay a £10 per person booking deposit, which 3 of our members lost because they couldn't make it. Seems a bit much for a sandwich!

A great place to start our 4 week holiday in England. The food and service were outstanding. A wonderful, welcoming pub.

I would like to express my gratitude to Inder for making us feel so welcome in his pub. As newcomers to the area, we booked a table for 20 people and were impressed with the way he handled our request. His friendly approach and manner, along with the great food and atmosphere, encouraged us to return, which we did again yesterday. We are looking forward to our next visit. Thank you, Inder. We went as a large group to have dinner with some friends and were absolutely blown away with the excellent customer service provided by their manager, Inder. Inder was cheerful, warm, accommodating and ensured we had an enjoyable evening whilst relishing the amazing food served. As a result, we’ve decided to go again and have made the pub our hangout spot following the excellent customer service by Inder. 😊

We came here as a bit of a last-minute decision and glad we did. It's only just up the road but not been here for years. We had a wonderful welcoming, and the service throughout our stay was great. There's a good choice on the menu, and prices were pretty good. Our meals came quickly and we're absolutely delicious. The desserts were also beautiful. I'm definitely going to be back!

Disaster evening. Waited ages for starters before being told that there was only 1 scallops left (ordered 2) so choose something else. Then tried to serve us another table’s starters. Left 1 soup with us which meant the other table was a soup short! Then they served a mushroom starter which was barely warm. Finally the scallops & alternative fish choice was served - after the soup and mushrooms had been consumed! Mains - swordfish steak was inedible & unpleasant. Got told that some steaks are like that -just tough? Table booked for 7.00pm. Finally got mains at 9.30! (No wine list was on offer, just choose a type!) The only plus was the manager’s quick & satisfactory offer re compensation. Explanation: The chef was having a night off! So why open?

We had the lunch time menu the soup of the day was very tasty , I had the ham hock terrine, and we both had the hunters chicken with chips , there were people coming in the pub all the time, I was told it does get busy overall nice menu with specials on the board .

Pleasant 'Local' pub in Holyport. Staff nice; full of friendly locals... food looked great - so tempted to come back again for a pub lunch! Bit limited with what's on tap, and mind you don't bang your head walking about... but otherwise, nice pub! RECOMMEND.

Went to the George for my 70th birthday with 6 friends and family, could not have been better, the food was excellent the service was great. A big thank you to Inder, Lucy, Tracy and the two chef's, sorry didn't get your names for making our evening a great time. Would really recommend it. Ps the beer was good too.

Delish dishes, different from you usual pub. Extra hearty and healthy food. Highly recommend if you are in the area. Also the servers are very friendly and helpful. They care about the place.

Had the lunch menu, 2 couses for £16. Very poor. Crab cakes for starter okay. Salmon Nicoise….good if you want to play spot the salmon! Smallest piece of salmon ever, spoke to waitress, she went to see if she could get more salmon! Only had smoked salmon. Looked like they had divided one portion into two. Very poor!!!!! Will look for somewhere else to meet up with friends in future!

Had the 2 course set lunch for £16.95. The nicoise salmon salad arrived with smallest piece of salmon ever. Looked like they had run out so had cut the last piece in half and that is being generous. The waitress asked if all ok and we told her. She reported back to the kitchen and the response was we could have a bit more for a supplement! We declined. Not impressed.

Reasonable pricing Staff were very attentive and the restaurant manager came to chat with us as he recognised a friend who had been previously visited. We randomly stopped here on our travels for a quick tea and to use the toilet and we loved it and ended up staying for a couple of hours and getting a roast! It was lovely. Special shout out to Polly who looked after us and was super friendly. We hope to come back one day :)

Absolutely fantastic…..as soon as we arrived we were greeted by a lovely young member of staff, didn’t get her name! My friend had been on several occasions before and the restaurant manager Inder instantly recognised her! He was amazing as were his staff! They couldn’t do enough! The food, drinks and service were great! I would definitely recommend this beautiful pub to anyone looking for great food, service and atmosphere! Thank you Inder!

Just managed to catch lunchtime last orders when we visited. Updated and extended interior with a nice selection of beers. Food menu looked good with plenty of internal seating. Two smallish outdoor areas. Friendly staff.

Extremely disappointed so much so I would never go again, I had just came out of Hospital after surgery and my son decided to book us into the George on the Green for Fathers Day, and I was soo looking forward to it, we arrived on the Sunday and I struggled through the bar on my Crutches to announce ourselves, as it was a lovely Day we asked for a table outside and sat down, we chose our starters and ordered our drinks, When they arrived at the table we were asked for a credit card, my son replied we are paying cash so the waiter left, this is when it all went wrong, he came back and asked us for some money to secure our table, so we gave him £40, he then came back and asked for more money, so I asked why, he then replied to my astonishment, “just in case you do a runner” because we have people who have done that, (on crutches by the way) I then complained and said that was extremely rude, he then said before he brings out our main meal he wanted us to pay for the whole lot, so we handed over £140 cash, I could not believe this was happening and we all felt really uncomfortable as other people were outside listening, I asked to see the manager, a very polite young lady came to our table very apologetic, she then said the same as the waiter, people have run off without paying, she then noticed my foot heavily strapped and my crutches beside the table and apologised again, we then changed our minds and asked to cancel our main meal and just pay for the starters and drinks, then the owner came out to see us and apologised, but too late the damage was done, we left and had a beautiful meal in the Belgian opposite beside a lovely pond (Highly recommend superb food), So to conclude The George on the green May as well of Called us Thieves, so instead of intimidating, upsetting and not being able to trust any customers, maybe you should look at your own staff and ask them to be more vigilant instead of flirting with each other inside the bar, maybe one of them could pop in and out of the garden to keep an eye, Rank over but we’ll never eat there again,

Jenny deserves a raise. Our table and all the other around us were served promptly, in a friendly manner, with the right level of attentiveness. The food was great and the green is beautiful.

What a discover. I mean… it’s an historic place to visit. it’s a 16th century pub! The old man waiter was incredibly lovely with us, but above all with my baby girl. I was there with my hubby and my 3yo girl 2 times. The place it’s incredibly comfy and warmy, specially in rainy days. They have a good wine selection and terrific home made food. I’m a mushroom soup lover, and they serve a good one there. BUT the golden pass goes to the ciabatta with sundried tomatoes and basil butter served with roasted garlic. It’s a must have you need to try. Trust me. PS MOMS: kids menu, high chair, toys, colors and books are availables 😜♥️

Friendly staff and nice meal,but sadly, we got the bill and I questioned the optional service charge on the bill,which was £15.I said I would opt out of the optional service charge,but give them a 10 pounds tip instead. The lady told me the service charge was not optional, so we paid it.I went back to the bar and asked again about the service charge and they then said it was optional,but it had already been put through the till.I gave up and walked out. How many people have been ripped off like this. Will never go there again.
