The Hiltonbury Farmhouse in Eastleigh

The food here is amazing! Tbh I struggle with hampshire area in finding a good restaurant- this place works for me. Don't be phased by its location- the housing estate was obviously built up around the original farmhouse. Lucky residents to have this place as their local! This is my 2nd visit & I returned for their steak & ale pie- tastiest ever. The service was great. Don't skip desserts- omg so filling & flavoursome. We tried the mascapone cheesecake & chocolate brownie. I've been lucky enough to eat in many high end & celebrated chefs restaurants, and the food here is excellent and comparable. I'm looking forward to my next visit!

Went to the Hiltonbury Farmhouse on Saturday 5th October, my wife and I and 2 friends. We ordered 2 starters. Mine was French onion soup. It was a case of find the onion if you can. There were very small slivers of onion in a dark liquid. I took one spoonful which tasted of hot very salty water. It was completely inedible and I was unable to eat it and returned it to the bar. My friend had Calamari as a starter. Looked like shrunken prawns. Few in number, dry and tasteless. For the main course I had chicken and ham pie. A small pie.The chicken was acceptable but the pastry was thick and brittle and non_edible. The broccoli was uncooked and cold.I couldn't cut it with a knife.The chips were lukewarm. The meal was awful and I returned it to the bar. My wife had the trout which was just about O.K. Our friends had shepherds pie just about O.K. but again the vegetables were only lukewarm and the broccoli cold and undercooked. The pastry was thick and brittle. The chicken pie was the same as the shepherds pie. The only good thing about the evening was the male waiter. He was extremely apologetic and attentive and deducted my entire meal from the bill.We will never return.

I don't believe in 1* review but I couldn't have been more disappointed. We were a group of 13 which, I appreciate, can be overwhelming for a very young lad who obviously just started as he was unable to answer our questions. No-one stepped in to help him despite him going back and forth to ask questions. The food arrived. Mine was only defrosted but not cooked. I had a goat cheese tart. so annoyed, one person from the group didn't get any food at all so we had to point it out and he had it take away. And another one's meal was not as described but they made no real attempt at making it better for us. The manager refused to come to our table to discuss. He kept sending that poor young bloke who was out of his depth with us. I physically had to get the manager myself. Then, they offered a tiny discount which we accepted despite being disproportionate to the issue. then the bill wouldn't arrive. We had to poke them to get it and then, no-one would come and take payment. Again, we had to let them know we were ready. Terrible service, terrible managerial support, terrible food. I do not recommend

Stopped in on the way past. First time going there. Simply the best pub roast dinner we have ever had. It was amazing. Staff are really friendly and welcoming

The food here was great, the steak and ale pie was perfect and the mash was to die for! The staff were all lovely and attentive and all made the effort to say bye when we left. Forgot to take a pic - was too hungry! Lovely place very glad we found it ☺️

Arrived to the sounds of loud music coming from the kitchen - you immediately wonder what type of business allows this, is it a welcoming environment to hear thumping music from the kitchen in a restaurant?! Onto the drinks and ordering... service was pretty good and friendly but staff should know draught drinks (there aren't that many)... that's a management issue as they should be trained. The food itself tasted OK but was not great... portions were tiny and the menu misleading. The chicken "schnitzel" was a fat old breast of chicken, didn't appear to be flattened like a schnitzel at all. The "crispy chicken burger" had the exact same piece of chicken in it as the schnitzel (?!), and the menu stated "Crispy chicken burger, pickled red cabbage slaw, skin-on chips" - I asked where the slaw was and was told it was in the burger! Come on really, a teaspoon of slaw in the burger? You might as well add "lettuce leaf" to the description then. Ridiculous. (I don't care about calories but apparently a small knob of butter is 80 more calories than a bun and slaw according to the menu!) Fries portions were tiny (in a silly bucket), suitable for a child. The tender stem broccoli (?) was rock hard like it wasn't cooked. When the staff asked how our meals were and we mentioned the broccoli the staff member was like a rabbit in headlights and clearly didn't know what to say or do. Again, basic training? Are there managers controlling anything? As for atmosphere, the generally nice atmosphere with quiet background music was ruined every time staff went in or out of the kitchen as loud music blasted out. I just get the impression that management run the pub for their own enjoyment, rather than customers. Assuming there is management. It wasn't terrible but for the prices they charge they are really under-delivering on all fronts.

Parking easy, but entrance was down a slope and steps, so no use if you’re disabled at all. A struggle using a walking stick even. Restaurant looked reasonable at first glance, windows very dirty though, the gentlemen serving/waiting/attending bar was pleasant, although rather unhelpful. Drinks menu on the table had fallen apart and was filthy. If front of house has poor cleanliness standards it makes one wonder what state the kitchen is in. Steak on bruschetta had salad on top, which had unfortunately either seen much better days or had been put under a heat lamp to keep hot. Nobody likes hot soggy wilted salad! Fish and chips was very disappointing. The peas were rather hard, undercooked. The ‘skin on’ chips had horrible rotten bits in them, nicely hidden by the potato skin! The tartare sauce with it was dreadful, from a jar obviously, more like 90% mayonnaise. The fish, had either been refried, or badly overcooked. The fish itself was dry and tasteless, the batter was like bullets, rock hard, had a horrible old/dirty oil taste, and shattered on touching. I let the gentleman serving us know how bad the fish was, he just said ‘oh’. No offer of another dish, and it wasn’t removed from the bill, despite me leaving over half of it on my plate! Dreadful customer care! We were offered desserts, but declined because of how awful our main courses were. Very annoying, as our visit was for a celebration! Wasted nearly £40 at this dive! Plenty of good places to eat in the area, so we certainly won’t bother returning here! This place obviously just cares about ripping off customers. Lunch deals are inexpensive for a reason, they’re inedible and horrible! I presume anyone giving this place a good review doesn’t get out much, has no tastebuds, and is probably a member of staff or related to the owner.

As a family we want give a massive shout out to the fantastic birthday experience that we had for my mother in law on her 80th birthday at the Hiltingbury Farmhouse - everything about the occasion was top notch! The hot food and desserts provided by Gareth and Briony were superb, the table service by Nikki and Ellie and bar service from Joe and Tina catered for all of our needs! The birthday girl was treated by the pub which she loved and the extra desserts were a lovely touch! The day was made special by the way everyone paid attention to detail and went that extra mile - this was very much appreciated by us all - thanks again guys!!

If you're looking for a gastro pub with a great atmosphere, good food and excellent service, then look no further! Our most recent visit being Sunday lunch, sat outside in the garden and shared a few small plates and desserts which they kindly split for us! A young team of great staff and the service was second to none! I will definitely be back.

Well we kinda stumbled upon this place .really welcoming lovely staff jess was a little gem and could not do enough for us. ended up have a bite to eat to food was lovely and hot chocolate were amazing come with a tiny pudding.. sat out door even tho was a chilly and raining had little heated shelted areas that was lovely a cozy. 👌

Superb Sunday lunch Wow - what a fantastic place! So so cosy and warm. Roaring log fire, fab background music and good vibes. We had Sunday lunch - roast chicken & roast beef and two kids menu options -sausages & mash and fish & chips, followed by two delicious chocolate brownies and ice cream. Hats off to the chefs Gareth & Nikki and the fab friendly bar staff, we had Naomi serving us - really friendly and helpful. The Christmas decorations are also lovely! Thanks - we shall we back - lots of Christmas events coming up looking at their boards, so we will definitely be back.

Really great lively, welcoming atmosphere at the Farmhouse last night. Even though it was really busy and every table was occupied, both the food and service were faultless. The roaring fire and music contributed to a great evening and and we are very glad we have another visit booked in over the festive season. Would highly recommend to anyone.

The roast was tasty but small and overpriced for what it was. The potatoes were not crispy and were hidden under a bed of cabbage. The dessert (ice cream sundae) was not as described as there was no waffle.

Gareth and the team really looked after us and provided a fantastic dining experience for the whole family. Highly recommended, especially the peppercorn source that came with the sirloin.

Unlikely spot for a good pub but it is excellent. What made the visit excellent was, firstly, the barman/waiter who was engaging and had a good sense of humour, and the food. I will certainly go again.

The best Sunday roast I've had in a long time. Family of 12 celebration and we all agreed that we couldn't fault their roasts no matter which one we chose. Service from Jess and Issy was great and so friendly. All the staff there were lovely. We will definitely be going back soon.

We had dinner about a year ago which was superb, excellent menu and food. We were really excited to go back but the menu has changed so were quite disappointed. I have been back twice since the first visit in September 2022. Once around June this year and another September. The chicken burger and vegan burger we loved had been taken off the menu and there wasn’t a lot of options for vegans/allergies. I ordered a tomato salad which turned out just to be a huge bowl of tomatoes. The chips seemed like oven chips and both meals were quite average. We had such high expectations seeing as it was so excellent the year before, such a shame the menu has changed. Also, the waiter cleared the plates of my friends whilst I was still eating which made me feel quite rushed. As a previous waitress, it was made clear we don’t clear plates until every person has finished their meal. Not awful, just quite disappointing due to menu change. Bring back the old menu! Staff friendly though. Lovely place for drinks but food quite average.

We were guests of friends of ours and we were a party of six. The table was booked for Thursday evening the 7th September. We sat in a lovely covered area opposite the patio door. The atmosphere was pleasant and being a warm evening too. The service we had from our two waiters was above and beyond and nothing was no trouble. The food was good and the my pudding... Eton Mess was the perfect tonic for a warm sumers evening! We all enjoyed our food and as I said before, the service was good, nothing was no trouble and made our evening perfect. We will be back!!

Drinks are expensive and don’t match the experience. For example only one ladies toilet locks, and toilet roll should be in container but is left on the windowsill. Condiments (including mayonnaise) are left outside in the full sun! And tables not cleared from precious occupants.
