So I've stopped here for coffees a few times, but today myself and my daughter were hungry and decided to sit outside in the sun and have brunch!!! Well - what an absolute delight!!! I had avocado, scrambled eggs and feta on soughdough and an iced cofee, and my daughter had the vegan breakfast. They were both beautifully presented, hot, tasty and such reasonable prices.. There is so much more on the menu that we still want to try so we'll definitely be back.... Lovely, friendly service too.... just try for yourself!! x

First, the good points; The front of house staff were delightful and the breakfast tea was superb. Unfortunately however the kitchen and food were hopeless. We waited close to an hour for our food to arrive, and then it was average at best. Meals described in the menu as including two eggs, arrived with one. Welsh Rarebit on toast had solidified. Baked beans were a small pot of mainly juice. Disappointed we wasted a valuable hour of our bank holiday. There are many better places to eat in Hove.

Me and my wife wanted to have a breakfast out (as our kids were being looked after) and decided to come here after reading the reviews. My wife is dairy and gluten free, as well as trying to avoid meat, so this cafe seemed a good place to try. We are so glad we did!! The menu offers a good variety of vegans options and gluten free options. I had a sausage sandwich with red onions and my wife had potato rosti with mushrooms and spinach. Both were delicious. They also offer a wonderful array of teas and our server Carla was wonderfully attentive helpful. My wife and I will definitely come here again - maybe next time we will even bring the kids.

We were in the area and spotted this cafe, inside warm and cosy with a retro feel. Lots of choice from the naughty to the nice! Freshly made and just what we wanted. I had a lovely falafel and haloumi cheese wrap while my companion had the fish finger sandwich (I counted six), accompanied with chips.

Having lived in Hove, I have always walked past the Hidden Pantry and considered going in. I now regret not visiting sooner and have been there twice this bank holiday weekend for brunch! The service are efficient and friendly, we were seated right away and took great delight in meeting the chef, who even cleared our table for us! Coffee is very nice, we both ordered the Halloumi breakfast and it was delicious! First time I had the tarragon mushrooms on toast, equally as yummy! All the elements were so tasty and fresh. I was especially impressed with the amount of vegetarian and vegan options. The cakes looked great, we didn’t try this time but I am sure we will be back now we have discovered this gem!

Visited on a recommendation from 2 friends who visited Hove and found this café. We were given a very warm welcome on arrival by the young man at the counter. We ordered the Halloumi breakfast & the pantry breakfast. Both were beautifully presented and delivered by very friendly waiting staff. The flavours & combinations were exciting & delicious. I haven't had rarebit for many years & it fully lived up to my expectations & the sausage was fantastic. My companion said the halloumi, mushrooms & houmous were amazing. We both agreed the poached eggs were cooked to perfection. It wasn't very busy (it should be), but that made the ambience cosy & very pleasant. They have nice prints & paintings on the walls & just the right lighting. we really could have stayed for hours. As a Hove native, I'm excited to have discovered this wonderful little gem with it's super helpful & friendly staff. I will definitley be coming back with more friends to introduce them to your fantastic food & fabulouscustomer service. Thank you.

My partner and I visited for coffee and cakes one Thursday afternoon. I had a single shot flat white, she had green tea. We wanted a cake, but there were none listed on the menu. The waitress went through a range of what they had and we went for a slice of pistachio, lime and raspberry cake. True the cake was nice but the price of £14 was ridiculous for what we had and I would consider it a rip off at £4.40 a slice. Worst of all it was my turn to pay!!! There are plenty of other cafes in the area and next time they will be getting my custom.

I don't why we're obliged to suffer from "wipe around grey skies" in July, less why persistent fret and squally wind arrived the day my Mum came down from Yorkshire to celebrate my birthday. We decided to raise our spirits by heading down to eat at The Pantry on Blatchington Road, Hove with the rest of the familyLove The Pantry. Myself and my Wife often visit to take their dreamy cakes & Bluebird Tea Company Gunpowder tea. You can also get Bluebird teas from the good guys at Speakers Corner. Worth knowing if you happen to be closer to KemptownAlas, what we'd failed to check was their policy on dogs. Perhaps we'd got a bit blasé given the critical acclaim Bert is usually greeted with by the good folk of Brighton and Hove, most recently at Talk of Tea on Spring Street and The Longhouse on London RoadSo, we can now report: The Pantry definitely don't take dogs. Whippets which eat, run, then make like cats and curl up and sleep ain't gonna get in. The lady behind the counter was both sweet and conciliatory as she delivered news of the cafe's policy. And I felt kinda bad putting her in what was clearly an awkward position. She even rushed after us to return my Brother's left behind brolly as we shuffled off despondently into the non-day. Bless you cafe lady!Of course, we could have sat outside The Pantry, but given the weather it'd've turned the whole afternoon into an extreme sportWe have a happy ending however: Trudging home we popped our heads around the door of The Revival Coffee Company. They do leaf tea, cakes and-dogs are welcomed both by the staff and patrons -who are really friendly bunchNow we have two good places to go in Hove. I'd still go to The Pantry if I was sans Bert, which is infrequently these days. Generally it makes more sense to head out, exercise la chien, then eat, rather than drop the dog off and then take him out again when you get back, y'know....If a member of your family happens to be four-legged, check out Revival coffee. If not have a bit of the beetroot and chocolate cake at The Pantry for me ;-)

Rarely am I compelled to come straight home and leave a review on Trip Advisor but thats how impressed I was/am.We were in a group of 3, my friend, his daughter and I, and he recommended that we eat here. Its a lovely quaint setting and I was immediately intrigued. We ordered two veggie breakfasts and a halloumi salad and I was instantly impressed with the lovely and beautifully attentive waitress and how easy she made the process for our notoriously fussy young companion to make her choices.Since turning vegetarian a few years ago I have sampled many breakfasts around Brighton and Hove and I can honestly say this was the best. Incredibly flavoursome and filling with quality ingredients. Worth every penny.I could gush about this place all day but unfortunately I'm meant to be working right now so will have to leave it there. It's got a quaint olde worlde feel about it indoors and there are also tables outside if you want to enjoy what sunshine there is. Today I chose soup of the day (veggie and sweet potato) served with a slice of Welsh Rarebit (£6.95) with an Earl Grey tea to finish. Service was prompt and the food did not disappoint - in fact the only thing that disappointed me was that I had no room left for a cake. Shame, they're usually delicious!

I've been here quite a bit lately to meet for a catch up with various different friends. The coffee is very good as are the pots of speciality teas and the almond croissants are probably the best I've ever come across.

Lovely clean cafe. We all enjoyed our brunch here and the cakes were delicious! Staff were very polite and helpful. Accommodating my five year old daughter and my new born grandchild. We will be visiting this cafe every time we visit Hove now!

Went here for a celebratory birthday breakfast with my mother. The waitress was so rude and unwelcoming it upset my mother and ruined her day. To top it all the so called apology was just as rude and aggressive. Used to be a great place when it was Ethel's with wonderful friendly staff and excellent food. Unfortunately it is now over priced mediocre food with unfriendly staff. Save your money and go elsewhere.

I have eaten here quite frequently over the past year or so. Previously known as Ethels kitchen. I haven't been dissappointed. The staff turnover seems quite high, but all staff very polite and attentive. The cafe can be very busy at times so i would suggest getting there early to avoid disappointment. There are tables outside which are lovely on a nice day. The yummy mummys tend to be downstairs, usually i would opt 'not' to sit downstairs but the occasions where i have all children have been well behaved, although it can get very noisy. It's a small cafe so can feel a little crowded when full but i like that. It adds a buzz to the place. Country decor and delicious homemade cakes! The hallumi breakfast is delicious, organic tasting. Good portion sizes at a reasonable price. Recommend a visit! ;)

I saw the positive reviews for this cafe here on TA under the old name, Ethel's Kitchen? So decided to pay a visit today for a mid-afternoon all day breakfast. Blatchington Road is a bit of a dump, so I didn't expect to find this little gem of a cafe!A nice smiley welcome from staff, and my coffee was brought out, with a pot of warm milk. It was good coffee, better than most places. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic - sooooo tasty! The sausages were delicious, and I also really liked the potato balls - which had a super herby flavour. Loads of mushrooms too, which pleased me. The cherry tomatoes seemed to have an olive oil & herb dressing on them, which was lovely. All in all, easily the best cooked breakfast I've had in Brighton/Hove since moving here in 2008.For the quality, I thought price was reasonable - came to £10.40 for the breakfast + coffee, so I left £12 as I was so happy. Will definitely be returning regularly. Am going to try some cake next time - I was pleased to see that the cakes are stored under glass domes, which keeps germs off them & probably also keeps them moist.Highly recommended.

Last time I was here it was Ethel's Cafe. The service is still good but the menu is less diverse. I would be happy if they still did scrambled eggs. The cakes are good and the drinks good.

First brunch here & it won't be our last. Delicious combinations of flavours perfectly cooked. I had the halloumi breakfast, which was lovely. My husband says the sausages are wonderful & the rosemary cubed potatoes were something special. I could have eaten a plate of those on their own. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Nice decor. The only shame is that their isn't much space, but that's also part of its charm i guess. Heartily recommended for those who like the extra homemade touch.Viks

My first visit with my daughter, I was pleasantly surprised by the nice atmosphere and lovely choice of breakfast and light lunch. Everything looked nicely presented and delicious. Wonderful freshly pressed juices as well. On leaving i was tempted to get a couple of slices of cake, for tea later. I will definitely be back

I ate here too when it was called Ethel's Place and not a lot has changed except the name. It has a lovely vibe and sweet decorations and the staff are friendly if a little distracted at times. The food is very nice and I tend to try things off the specials board. I had a lovely soup with welsh rarebit toast on the side the time before and I had the Fish stew this time. It was very tasty and I really enjoyed it. Do not go if you are pressed for time though. I've been probably 4-5 times and regardless of whether there are 1 or 10 tables occupied, the food takes a long time. The food is not as spectacular as the decor, but it is good and worth trying.

this is by far my most favourite place to go and drink coffee! I went for breakfast last week and was sadly very disappointed. I ordered the granola breakfast with yoghurt and fruit and what was presented was a handful of granola, a few blueberries, and maybe one or two strawberries cut up very small and a spoon of yoghurt for the sum of £4.50!!! I think it probably would have cost less than 10p to make up! The whole breakfast for two with coffee and extra toast and butter ( you had to pay extra for jams etc ) was over £17 i was shocked and let down!

Another of those shabby-chic / nostalgic attempts to attract Hipsters and Dinky types. Staff try hard but the overpriced dishes and drinks let it down....£5 for a bowl of what was essentially "Tomato Soup" playing on the "Organic" theme for example. Okay for tea and maybe a cake but don't expect value for money from the rest of the menu. Been twice will possibly give it one more chance before avoiding altogether.

I go to this cafe regularly as is it is quite literally just around the corner from where I live. My one abiding impression of it is that it clearly likes to think of itself as being far better than it actually is. I'm not intent to slate the place (if I did that, why would I keep coming back?), but the quality of the food is fairly average as opposed to superb and one doesn't have to go far at all in Hove to enjoy excellent food.Their coffee is really pretty bad as they simply don't know how to make a decent macchiato or cappuccino. Also, there are some very odd sounding dishes on the menu. Something called a "breakfast banana split" for example. The cakes are lovely but as I said, there are better cafés available nearby.

The Classic Breakfast was really good. The food was cooked fresh, hot, and very well presented. Fresh orange juice and lovely coffee & tea. The staff were very welcoming, accommodating and friendly. The rest of the menu looks very interesting with a long list of available sandwiches and baguettes. Would very much recommend this cafe and will definitely return when visiting Brighton again. Thanks very much !!
