Grints of Brighton in Brighton and Hove

The Classic Breakfast was really good. The food was cooked fresh, hot, and very well presented. Fresh orange juice and lovely coffee & tea. The staff were very welcoming, accommodating and friendly. The rest of the menu looks very interesting with a long list of available sandwiches and baguettes. Would very much recommend this cafe and will definitely return when visiting Brighton again. Thanks very much !!

The food was so good. Cost the same as a Wetherspoons but was sooooooo much better. All day breakfast menus, best scones ever, and amazing poached eggs!

we always stop here for a bit of breakie before hitting the pubs n bars Allys a great laff if you interact with him , Top tip order at Allys nip over to the Crown oppo grab a couple beers and there happy to let you eat your breakie outside the pub , great for people watching

Was walking about Brighton and thinking about not to go for usual fish and chips this time, and to eat healthy - so decided for good old English breakfast:-) Found Ala's Cafe - great location, amazing breakfast and great warm and kind owner! Will be coming back soon:-)

We regularly go to the cafe when in Brighton you always get a friendly welcome from the staff. Sat outside yesterday in the lovely sunshine very attentive service even though they were busy. Yummy full English breakfast with coffee and a breakfast panini. Reasonable pricing. Back soon.

Dropped in for lunch and was greeted by friendly staff. The food was freshly prepared and cooked, my poached egg was perfectly cooked. The only criticism I have is the bacon was too crispy for me but this was minor.

The breakfast was ok, typical of a back street cafe. Sad to say however, no social distancing, no sanitiser, no track and trace. There is simply no concept of safety for either staff or customers. As well as this review I am reporting them.

La ubicación de la cafetería no podría ser mejor, y es el lugar perfecto para encontrar algo de paz y tranquilidad justo al lado de Churchill Square. Los cafés son geniales! We don’t live in Brighton, but we come down to visit family once a month and we love to visit Ala’s We are welcome like family, food is great proper chicken breast in bread crumbs, fab toasted cheese and onion sandwich and choice of bread, lovely hot chocolate and out of this world Banana milkshake the best I have ever tasted. Great little cafe for an English Breakfast. Good value, tasty food. Staff were also very friendly and obviously a hit with some locals.

Just popped into this place, only because we were walking by and it had started to rain. But how pleased we were. Very good coffee, and I do like a good coffee. Two sandwiches ordered. My salt beef, mustard and gherkin in some delicious thick sliced bread was very tasty. The Tuna also looked good. Stayed for a second tea and coffee and am so glad we discovered this place. Such a nice change from corporate, soulless coffee chain places. Of course we will be going back!

Mi dispiace dare una stella perché almeno l English breakfast è tanta roba ma la ragazza oggi è stata maleducata. Ho chiesto per avere extra uova chiedendo quante fossero, la signorina ha fatto notare con maleducazione che se leggo il menu c è scritto. Ok dopo aver ripetuto che avrei voluto anche un caffè americano. Infine mi arriva il piatto con sole 2 uova.. Chiedo per il mio extra e con estrema maleducazione dice che devo pagare. Mi dispiace molto ma serve un po di educazione e modo, io sono stata educata e ferma a chiedere. Non penso tornerò.

Uno de los mejores cafés en los que he estado también, los sándwiches son para morirse, especialmente el pollo del sur del sur. La porción es buena y tienen una variedad de alimentos que atraen a todos los tipos, así como el precio es razonable. Definitivamente un lugar para comer, así como el buen servicio al cliente ya que el personal es muy amable y agradable.

Fab Cafe, came in for breakfast New Years day morning, so pleased We*****spoons was so packed & noisy as we headed to look elsewhere, found this place, never been before but an oasis of proper cafe. Bacon sandwich, toasted teacake, tea & coffee, just fab.

Hands down best southern fried chicken I've ever had! The pricing is reasonable and the staff are so friendly and welcoming :) Hygiene is really important to me and it was comforting to see how clean they kept the cafe and how regularly they cleaned it. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this cafe as it has a variety of foods to meet almost everyone's standards!

Ich wollte mir ein British Cream Tea gönnen, das Angebot sah verlockend aus. Drinnen servierte eine Hilfskraft (Spanierin?) mit einigen sprachlichen Handicaps. Jeder Tisch war voll Krümel und Essensresten früherer Gäste, ich erwartete, dass diese beim Servieren weggewischt würden - weit gefehlt, meine Bestellung wurde einfach oben drauf gestellt. Ich bezweifle, dass das Scone (ja, Einzahl!!) selbst gebacken war - wohl eher aufgebacken. Eine Tasse Tee (kein Nachfüllen) usw.

This is honestly one of the most lovely finds in Brighton! The staff are attentive and happy and the food is 10 out of 10! Would 100% recommend!!!!

Gran café, inglés completo masivo más opciones vegetarianas. Mi tortilla de queso (que puede ser aburrida lo sé) estaba deliciosa y mis amigos florentino de huevo también era muy bueno. Una queja, el café loo es pequeño, y sube unas escaleras desvencijadas muy empinadas, así que hay que tener cuidado. Pero de lo contrario no me puedo quejar

Mi novio y yo visitamos la semana pasada de Ala y nos impresionó mucho el tamaño de las porciones, la comida y el personal cuando nada es demasiado. El signo de una gran cafetería es el servicio. ¡Las hamburguesas de pollo son tan deliciosas que no queríamos que terminaran! Gracias Equipo Ala nos vemos pronto! X

While the food is nothing to write home about, it is standard cafe food that is reasonably priced (which puts this cafe a good standing above a lot of others in Brighton). Staff were friendly and the coffee was very well made. Would come back again for a breakfast or lunch!

My girlfriend and I always visit Ala's when we get the chance. It's an excellent little spot with good coffee, the friendliest staff and a great range of food. There is a good selection of vegetarian and vegan options on offer, and it's a great place to sit and enjoy breakfast, lunch, or even just a drink with plenty on offer. Wholeheartedly recommend to anyone looking for an all-round good, clean cafe in the centre of Brighton.

I absolutely love this little cafe, and I would recommend it to anyone. The food is always delicious, and arrives quickly regardless of how busy it is. The staff are lovely, and go out of their way to have a chat and a laugh with the customers. The owner clearly knows what he is doing, the cafe is always clean, tidy and running smoothly. It’s made even better by the fact that he knows how to treat customers, which is made clear by the amount of regulars who are in there. Overall, this is a great little cafe, it’s affordable, friendly and fun!

Everyone is so lovely at Ala's and I spend most of my lunch time's there and whenever I have the time to go out I always end up having a coffee there! Such a lovely, clean café and they treat their customers so well! Also have vegetarian options which is always a bonus!!!

First visit to Ala's Cafe during our visit to Brighton. We were looking for a coffee and snack avoiding the usual chain coffee shops. The staff were very friendly and service was quick. Although we only had a coffee and lovely sausage roll, we couldn't fail to notice all the other cooked food being served. The cooked breakfast looked amazing and we shall be going back to order one ourselves. Highly recommend.

Been multiple times now and enjoyed every visit. Amazing choices for both lunch and breakfast. The burgers are super tasty and the chips are equally so. Great selection of baguettes especially for breakfast and the staff are really nice and welcoming.

I came here once for a quick pre-work snack 5 years ago.. and basically haven’t left since! I have gotten to know Ala and his team over the years and I have always been bowled over by how attentive he is and by how consistently great the food is! I 100% recommended Ala and his cafe!

They forgot our order and when the food did arrive 50mins later our poached eggs were hard and we just wanted our money back so we could leave. Manager/owner refused to give us our money back and said it wasn’t his problem. Not one single apology from him. His staff were so embarrassed they kept apologising to us behind his back. One of the customers even offered to pay for our meal because he felt so sorry for us. To cap things off the manager/owner smelt of B.O so bad we had to constantly step away from him. Dread to think what hygiene standards exist in this place. Eat at your own risk!

We had a classic and a vegetarian breakfast. Both were excellent. Food came out hot, everything cooked well and large portions. Value for money, would definitely recommend

Fuimos a desayunar el 16 de diciembre de 2018. Pedimos x 3 comidas. Nuestro primer vino fue el blanco (el blanco plano fue el café más pequeño que he tomado). Luego esperamos 20 minutos sin comida, pasaron otros 10 minutos y la camarera llevó los cubiertos a una mesa junto a nosotros que acababa de llegar y ordenó. En este punto, ni siquiera habíamos tenido cubiertos, sabíamos que nos habían olvidado. Cuando cuestionamos esto, la camarera comprobó y dijo que estaba en camino. Sin embargo, los tres desayunos estaban fríos, así que obviamente lo habían dejado sentado a un lado hasta que les avisamos que no lo habíamos tomado. Debieron haber pedido disculpas por el error y cocinado fresco. Estábamos todos tan hambrientos en este punto que comimos lo que pudimos y nos fuimos. No volvería a ir allí de nuevo.

It's a small but nice cafe serving a big breakfast portion. It also has vegan and vegetarian offers. The staff was kind and polite. With the outdoor seating just by the shopping centre it is a good place to start your day.

Blame JD Wetherspoon. It's their fault. Apparently 6.40pm is an unsuitable hour to think of having a family dinner, so we searched for another eatery which looked to provide balanced meals. On the main hill towards Brighton station, this is difficult as one is presented soley with noodle bars, kebab and fries chicken shops. Scarcely a vegetable in sight.

Esperamos unos 40 minutos para dos desayunos ingleses y un huevo florentino. Los desayunos estaban bien, justo por encima de la media, aunque el florentino de huevo lo que mi novia es terrible. Dos huevos en espinacas crudas con un panecillo de desayuno seco. Cuando se quejó de que el servidor no era muy útil y no podía entender el problema, comenzó a discutir con ella. Cuando regresó la comida, la espinaca estaba cocida, aunque el panecillo ni siquiera estaba tostado y le dieron solo un huevo, aparentemente porque había comido antes uno de los huevos. Una completa falta de cuidado para el cliente, nunca volvería a ir

Tuvimos un fantástico desayuno vegetariano que era lo suficientemente grande como para prepararnos para el día. Los batidos eran geniales y muy sabroso. Personal amable (aunque se apresuraron a sus pies). Pasteles parecía increíble. El único problema fue el inodoro, que era muy pequeña y subía una empinada escalera de vuelo. Vale la pena saber si tienes movilidad limitada.

My son and I popped in for lunch, food was reasonably priced, prompt and very friendly service. Staff were very good with children.

We stopped here on a beautiful sunny afternoon for a little spot of lunch. There is a fairly extensive menu with plenty of choice from light bites, main courses, or sandwiches. We were able to sit outside and it was lovely to sit in the sunshine. We were disappointed that, although fish fingers were offered as a children's meal, when we asked if we could have fish finger sandwiches we were refused "because we weren't children". We were not trying to order a child's meal for an adult and would've been more than happy to pay a full adult price for them, but unfortunately the establishment was frustratingly inflexible! However, once we did decide on what to eat, it arrived in great time and was utterly delicious - the bread and accompanying side salad garnish were both incredibly fresh, which is so important to us as is very often overlooked. We would most definitely eat here again and are looking forward already to our next visit. One small word of warning - the lavatory is shockingly awful!

We visited for a drink on a rainy Saturday afternoon. My partner ordered a sausage roll which took about 15 minutes to arrive because they were heating it up, it looked amazing once it had arrived though.

Stopped off in Grunts of Brighton for a coffee and a bit of breakfast on a solo visit. Nice little place, seating available outside as well. The coffee was really good here, had a latte. The food that I had was freshly cooked and tasty. Staff friendly as well. Highly recommend.

Not great to be honest. On a scale of one to ten, I would give 3. Or 4 on a good day. Maybe 2 on a bad day. I'm just rambling now.

Awful service. Asked for mushroom omelette with some grilled tomatoes on the side and got a very small omelette which was gritty and 2 slices of tomato next to it, probably wasn't even half a tomato. Very disappointing and expensive considering portion size. I would not visit this place again.

Menú de desayuno encantador. Tuvimos un desayuno y baguettes tortillas. Un hombre que sirve, y podía ver lo mucho que hizo. Y un crédito muy unflustered al negocio. Lo recomiendo sin duda.

Small, family run cafe with a huge selection of sandwiches,..also baked spuds, all the popular hot dishes plus veggie sausages and great carrot cake on offer. Very fair prices, lovely food, fab coffee and nice people who clearly care about their food and service. Just outside entrance to mall and down the steps..

Ordered dinner for seven people, was advised that they were short staffed and there was at least a forty minute delay. As we'd already been all around Brighton looking at various, we decided to risk the wait, and our party split up to do some last minute shopping, whilst the rest waited, and we were glad we did. We were advised when our meals were several minutes away from being served and, after being phoned, all our party managed to return in time. Service was excellent thoughout our meal, food was very hot, tasty and not too expensive. There didn't appear to be any free wifi here, but to be honest I was too focused on devouring my beer-battered fish to double-check this with staff. Whilst highly rate the staff for their care and attention, and the quality of food served to us, the ambiance is more greasy spoon than fine dining, so don't expet too much. Not suitable for a private, romantic date, but for a cheap meal after a busy day walking around town, I cannot fault this restaurant. Just be aware it can get busy!

although this is quite a small place the food is very good particularly the breakfast options. The light breakfast is very good for a smaller appetite but the breakfast baguette is perfect for the very hungry. Not expensive.

Visited on a quiet Tuesday afternoon. Ordered cream tea and milkshake. Scone had been frozen and microwaved to defrost to order! Was probably the worst scone I have ever had! Milkshake was advertised as being made with ice cream... well it's wasn't- it was milk. I don't mind milkshakes with milk but not when advertised as otherwise! Tea served without a teaspoon too so had to get tea bag out with fingers. Shame.

Went to Brighton and decided to have our lunch in Grints we were welcomed and seated and ordered coffee while we choose something to eat off the menu. There was a good choice of snacks, meals, cakes and breakfast. We decided to have a jacket potato and a Brie sandwich. The food was good value and tasty, and the coffee was excellent. Service was quick and the staff were very polite and accommodating.

After a bus ride from Eastbourne, this was just the place we needed. In a side street but thriving we decided to chance refreshment at Grints. A very wise decision, the coffee was just as we like it and the service was excellent.A very happy and fun atmostphere, so much so we went back again before we caught the bus back to Eastbourne. Try it you will be as surprised as we were.

I have been to Grint's several times for coffee whilst shopping in Brighton. You have the choice to eat/drink in or takeaway. I sat outside as it was a nice day & to people watch.It is a busy café & the service is pretty good. However, on my last visit the remains of someone's breakfast stayed on the table next to mine for the entire time I sat there. A bit off putting ! The waiter was in & out of the café serving tables, but not once did he clear the messy table. This is the reason for my average score on this occasion.

Amazing team and fast tasty food cant ask for more was in need of somewhere dry while it was raining and thu place looked good. Was a nice atmosphere and everyone in thier seemed like they where having a good time.
