We called Samlesbury Hall to book an afternoon tea - We were under the impression that we would be eating within the grounds in a historical location. As it turns out, we were in the corner of a carpark in a garden-centre style building. From the minute we walked in we were overwhelmed by the smell of sewage (though the toilets were very clean) and lack of heating. The afternoon tea itself was much smaller than expected and the cakes were very disappointing - Considering the hefty price we paid of £24 per person and having to pay days in advance, we were not happy with what we received. The service was friendly and welcoming but we thought it rather cheeky that one member of the group who had neither tea nor coffee was asked to pay for their single orange juice. Quite disappointed and will not return. 2/5

Five of us had lunch here today. Manageress Nicky very welcoming. We all had different dishes with no disappointments. Homemade pie of the day highly rated especially as it came with mash & jug of gravy, also batter on fish (with chips) declared outstanding. & a Buddha bowl fresh & tasty. Waitresses Libby & Beth were friendly & efficient. A very pleasant place to visit & lots of free parking outside.

My husband and I visited yesterday for lunch and we will certainly be visiting again soon. I had the homemade cheese pie with fresh chunky chips and fresh vegetables(choice of mash too, I was torn which to have….sorry I let you down Nicky !) hubby had traditional fish and chips oh my goodness they were good, our compliments to the chef. What a beautiful place to eat in so clean and wonderfully rustic in beautiful surroundings. The food was excellent and what made it most pleasurable was the service, nothing was too much trouble, Nicky was our server and she was a tonic, chatty, friendly, so personable and smiley (the world at present needs a few more like Nicky!) The other young lasses serving were all equally as lovely all pleasant and helpful. Thank you for a wonderful experience see you again soon.

Me and a friend came here for lunch on a Friday. We'd never been before, and while I agree with a previous review that the signage to the correct car park was inadequate, it was only a minor inconvenience which can be easily rectified! The venue itself was beautiful. Light and airy with fairy lights dotted about giving it a touch of whimsy. Plenty of seating available, I noticed several tables had been reserved. I appreciated that we were sat a reasonable distance from other diners which we were told is standard practice here when there is the capacity to do so! I ordered the hot beef and gravy sandwich on ciabatta, and I swapped the crisps for chips. My only real complaint is that I feel £4 is a bit of a steep price tag to attach to a portion of chips on an £11.50 sandwich. "Cheap as chips" certainly doesn't apply here. That said, they were tasty, and I was offered an extra jug of gravy, much to my delight! Staff were all friendly and service was fairly quick. With better signage in the first carpark and an adjustment to the price of the chip-swap I'd say this place would be perfect!

My first visit to The Garden Room and I'll definitely be going back. Our server Nicky was incredibly personable and bent over backwards to ensure our dietary requirements were met. Lovely atmosphere which made for a very relaxed experience. Food was delicious, although perhaps slightly over priced (but I am no food expert), but it wouldn't put me off going again. The Garden Room isn't signposted when driving into Samlesbury Hall, but it was easy to spot.

Booked Sunday lunch for 12:45pm in The Garden Room Eatery, Salmesbury Hall. Celebration birthday for 9 people. We booked early as one had a train to catch whilst others were interested in the Ghost Tour at 2pm. The signage to the Eatry was inadequate requiring a long walk from the two buildings. Still arrived on time but the table wasn't ready. Took the opportunity to look at the dessert on display and hoped that there would be alternatives. Once seated we had to wait a long time to order drinks and decided to order food at the same time. Drinks arrived and told no garden peas, only mushy. Getting a bit concerned about time and no food we ordered more drinks and had a quiet word with the waitress. Over one hour after sitting down it arrived. How disappointing it looked. The (small) pies were dried up, peas dried up with thin watery gravy. Kids chicken goujons overcooked and hard. Roast beef ok but some said again small portions. We noticed that another table sat before us was still waiting for food. As a couple had to leave straight after for the train, and now too late for the Ghost Tour. I went over to express my opinion and pay the bill. Didn't want to stay for dessert. The waitress said she would pass on my remarks to the chef regarding the quality of the food, but they were busy and had offered another table free drinks as they too had waited a long time for food. Having not wanted to spoil a special day anymore we left. I looked at reviews from diners and very shocked to find complaints going back a year. Only if I had checked first! The next morning I telephone and spoke to Sharon Jones, she was aware that there had been problems and sympathetically listened to my Issues. She promised to look into what went wrong and get back to me within two days. One week later Sharon Jones had not been in contact and then an email arrived from the Hamlet & Reception Manager “Please find attached a voucher for £20.00 which you can use at the Garden room, Wafflery or towards an overnight stay” Please accept this with our apologies and thank you so much for the feedback it is very important to us. Not good enough, and nobody really wants to know. But I thought that people who are spending their hard earned money may well do so.

The food looked very nice. Unfortunately we didn't get the chance to taste ours. It was 20 minutes before our order was taken, and after we had been there for an hour and 10 minutes, we still hadn't received any food. We were told there were still 3 ordrrs in front of ours. We therefore cancelled our order, paid for our coffees, and left. We had various explanations for the long wait, we're very busy, we're short staffed, one of the ovens isn't working etc. Maybe we were unlucky and picked a bad day, but I don't think we'll be visiting again.

Arrived at this glorified marquee and was disappointed by the limited but expensive breakfast menu. My English breakfast was okay but not worth £13.50 . My friend was disappointed and baffled that you can have Eggs Benedict at lunchtime but you can't have poached eggs on toast for breakfast!! We had pre-booked a table for 10 paying £100 deposit. We arrived at 12.45, 15mins early and were greeted and seated immediately. After 20mins we were told apologetically that they were short staffed and we would have to wait a further 30mins for food. It was a hot day and even sitting beside open doors we waited so long that I eventually started feeling ill and had to sit outside in the herb garden rather than inside under a glass roof. The food did not arrive until 2.10pm and although it was good, what had started out as a lovely family get together had been spoiled. The children were very hungry by the time everything arrived. I spoke to the manager afterwards and pointed out that they had been aware we were coming for some time. Surely knowing they had a large booking as well as walk-in customers should have promoted getting enough staff to work. The response was that we couldn’t have picked a more busy day and she couldn’t turn customers away. The point was that we were there in plenty of time, they knew we were coming and yet we still had to wait well over an hour. Not acceptable.

Dessert (choc brownie) was a disgrace: stale, dry, rock hard and arrived with a mouldy strawberry - absolutely no attention to detail. We did complain of course - the brownie could not be eaten. At a loose end on Bank Holiday Saturday and we were searching somewhere for lunch but wanted to avoid the usual queue for a table farm shops and pubs. The venue is very easy to find on the A677 Preston to Blackburn Road. A long sweeping drive takes you past the stunning main house of Samlesbury Hall (we couldn't go in due to a private function but will definitely return) into an ample parking area. The cafe is at the opposite end of the car park to the popular crazy golf (again we never knew existed) and we went inside and were shown to our table. Plenty of choice on the menu for lunch. A choice of nibbles, hot & cold sandwiches or main meals. We both opted for hot sandwiches, a posh fish finger butty with homemade slaw and homemade nachos (the best we've ever tasted). 3 generous potions of battered fish on a tasty bun. My other half had the vegetarian option of Mediterranean vegetables and pesto on a rather large toasted ciabatta, with a generous side salad and more very tasty nachos. The staff were very attentive, very well trained and all were kept busy by a good flow of diners. You had the choice to dine inside or out and I would imagine when the weather gets a little warmer then the Heritage Cafe is going to be very popular indeed. Infact we can't wait to visit again.

We hadn't booked a table but thought we would have a Wedding Anniversary lunch at the Heritage Cafe! Arrived at 1.45 and shown to a table and given the menu. We waited around 20 minutes for someone to take our order, my husband went to the bar to remind them we were still waiting for order to be taken, we were told someone would be straight over! 15.minutes later we were still waiting so called over waitress who was chatting to people on a near by table! She finally took our order, including drinks (no apologies for the wait)! 40/45 minutes later still no food, and no explaination or apology why! At this point we decided enough was enough and got up to leave, the drinks never turned up let alone the food! Ladies on another table said they didn't blame us and it was terrible service! As we left the young fella behind the bar, maybe the manager, seemed surprised that we still hadn't had our food and we were leaving but from where he was standing he had a perfect view of our table so had he bothered to keep a check on his customers he would have seen that we still hadn't been served! It would be a great place if only the staff were trained properly!

Perhaps just some additional training about not reaching across people when delivering food etc may prove helpful. 4 of us had roast dinner, there was plenty of it but the meat and Yorkshire puddings were cold which in turn, turned the once hot gravy, tepid. Desserts were excellent. I'd go back but probably on a day that wasn't as busy.

I did tell them this hadn't been made very clear on there website, but got no resonse to this. It was very very busy, which I understand with being mother's day, but quite cramped I'd say. However we did have a lovely seat next to the window and enjoyed watching the wild life. The young girl who greeted us asked for our party name about 3 times. Our starter arrived before our drinks and were sat on the bar for some time before brought over. We asked twice where the drinks were, but I think it was just so busy the girls forgot. The food we received was nice, but I'd say a little overpriced, especially the childrens set menu and £30 for a bottle of Chardonnay!! Overall we did have a nice time.

Visited today 29th Feb with my husband and our friend. This was our first visit to the new cafe. Bright airy reception with big sofas to have coffee and a chat. Greeted politely and shown to our table. Drinks quickly ordered. P ie of the day was mince and onion which two of us had both with chunky chips. I opted for tomato soup and a cheese and pickle sandwich with thick cut chips. The soup was utterly delicious. The best I have ever had! Served in a small cup, which was fine for me however others may have required a bigger portion. The sandwich was fresh with tasty bread. However quite a few of the chunky chips were very hard and virtually impossible to cut! This needs looking into please. I was very disappointed to find sugar cubes in a bowl. Not at all acceptable. God knows how many dirty hands have touched these sugar lumps or sneezed over them!! Not a hygienic way to present sugar at any time but more so than ever now!! Having ranted, the room is light and airy with large wooden tables. Staff polite and friendly. The food service was quite slow especially considering the place wasn't busy. Would we return Yes, we all agreed we would. In warmer weather this would be a fantastic place for lunch then a walk around the grounds or a visit to the hall. Please sort out the chips we don't want to break our teeth!!! Sort the sugar out think hygiene, please. I did express all my concerns on paying to a young man called Connor. He agreed with me about the sugar. He also said they were in between changing managers. Connor also said he was sorry about the chips and that he would inform the kitchen about the issue. If you have issues anywhere tell the staff or ask to speak to a manager just remember to be polite. Do not just rant on social media. Give venues the opportunity to correct issues as this is only fair.

The dining area has great seating, tables etc. The outside looked nice from the windows (too cold to eat out there today but I certainly would on a warmer day). The toilets were immaculate. No, the food isn't 'cheap' but where is nowadays and it's a truism that you get what you pay for. I thought what I had was delicious, nicely presented and well worth the money. Lovely homemade food - excellent fish and chips and turkey dinner in a bun. The warm scone and warm mince pie were lovely - can’t wait to return. Very good value for money

We visited today after winning the recent Facebook competition to win a festive 3 course Christmas lunch for 2. The food was absolutely gorgeous - everything was perfect. The atmosphere was suitably festive too and the staff were lovely and attentive. We will definitely be back again before Christmas!

The Flahaven’s porridge was a welcome warmer on a chilly autumn morning! My friend had pancakes with maple syrup and bacon, which she enjoyed and recommends. Attentive service and overall worth a visit if you are coming to Salmesbury Hall.

Don't take kids here! Such poor value. Adult sandwiches £8.50 including salad, crisps and Coleslaw. Kids menu £5.50 for sandwiches (billed as under 12's). My children (aged 5 and 3) received 1 sandwich and a small handful of crisps each (i.e 1 round of bread each). If a business is going to offer a kids menu and no extras ( drink or ice cream ) then, come on, I'd expect at least 2 rounds of bread OR the pricing to be cheaper. As it was, it cost £11 and both children were still hungry, with one asking 'where is the rest?' And the other saying, 'I want more.' This portion didn't fill a toddler let alone a 10 or 11 year old and even looked ridiculous on a medium sized tea plate. Our food was lovely but when you feel ripped off with the kids menu,it spoils the experience and puts you off spending more money on cakes. It's a nice cafe, and I imagine popular with other families / mums and kids but the kids menu pricing /value needs a rethink. Worth no more than £3.00 /£3.50 or something to add to £5.50. Understand that food prices have gone up but customers still want value and not to feel taken advantage of.

Great wee spot, second time visiting. If you are going to Wales from Scotland you really should be stopping here. Lots of parking which is free and reasonably priced food and drink. Staff are warm and welcoming with clean facilities.

This place is in a lovely setting in the Halls grounds. The building has been renovated and the gardens landscaped. This was my 2nd visit for the Sunday lunch. 1st visit approx 1 month ago was pleasant and the food was reasonable a a good potion………..Not this time. £17.95 for Sunday lunch in a cafe!! Bit steep but I thought it was quite pleasant on my 1st visit so give it another go. What a difference a few weeks makes. The meal came. Nicely presented however where was the meal!!! When broken down it was 1/2 undercooked carrot, 1/2 undercooked parsnip (both cut lenghways possibly to give the impression of volume) 1 medium potato cut into 4 and under roasted, 2 thin slices of very chewy and fatty roast beef. Not enough gravy. You really need to step up Heritage Cafe as these prices are comparable with decent pub grub in the area where the potions and quality is superior!

We went for a 75th Birthday celebration and there were 14 people involved. The staff were extremely friendly and efficient, the food was lovely especially the roast beef Sunday Lunch ( the gravy and meat were to die for) the fish and chips looked fabulous and it was a lovely relaxed atmosphere. This was the first time I had been and thought it is one on Lancashire's hidden gems. Well worth a visit, we will be going again.

Had a couple of bacon barms and they were simple and delicious. Lovely white bap with three slices of thick cut bacon. Tomato ketchup on request. Coffee each and that was it. Service is a bit slow and vague, but food was perfectly fine. Internet is good, but you have to ask for the password.

Too long getting served, the cost of the meal for the food we got was prohibitive £12:50 for a breakfast part of it was supposedly mushrooms, what we got was a wedge shaped piece of a flat mushroom we estimated that one mushroom was divided into six portions and we each got a portion. The bacon was two tiny pieces not even a full rasher, the eggs looked like they'd broken them before cooking and were just about warm. The sausages were ok, still trying to work out whether the slice of bread was supposed to be toast, or, fried bread either way it was only done on one side the other side was just plain bread, if it was toast we think they put two slices in each slot on the toaster so in fact only one side got toasted, or if it was supposedly fried bread the only fried one side. Not a meal I would recommend to anyone.
