Eagle & Child in South Ribble

Phoned up day before. I was told I didn’t need to book just turn up. We arrived at 17:45. Ordered food it wasn’t busy at all took an hour for food to come. Only 4 people. Food was ok but the wait for it spoiled the experience as people were drinking on an empty stomach. We then tried to order dessert just to be told kitchen is closed. What a waste of time we won’t be going back the chef was still walking around the pub in his chef uniform. Why would a pub sell food then not check if you want desserts. By this time we had two other family members join us who wanted dessert at the same time as us. Two women behind the bar that didn’t seam to know how to use till system. Kept looking at till receipt like they were unsure of price and saying someone had been overcharged. I think more staff training is needed. Because you’re loosing customers. We always go out for dinner on a Thursday bill is usually £150 with drinks. They won’t be getting that again.

Never been inn before food was lovely and best thing didn't feel uncomfortable very welcoming staff

We had a wonderful time, very busy (so please book if you want food) we did go on st Patrick's days plus Manchester and Liverpool football match but that's two reason why we went, the third was a belated mothers day meal. when we arrived they had no table ready for us which we had booked the day before, but they worked so hard to get one ready for are party as we needed a high chair and not much room with so many people in the pub watching football. The food was fantastic like every time we have been in before ( we have been 3 times in the last 3 weeks )pleased to say we really like it each and every visit. Also I just want to say thank you for a wonderful delicious and hot meal and your very welcoming smiley staff .

It was a very good night we stayed till closed and staff are very friendly. The atmosphere was great and would definitely recommend

Went for tea and tried the mixed grill with a peppercorn sauce. Great value. Everything was cooked and presented well. Others tried the burgers, again tasty and fresh. Definitely returning. It has a nice chilled vibe and is dog friendly.

It has great varieties of food. The food is delicious. They have pool and darts to play. Dogs are allowed in. The staff are really nice. It's easy to get to.

Just enjoyed a lovely family lunch at the Eagle & Child. Food was amazing and exceptionally good value for money. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Lovely cosy atmosphere. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Took sons for lunch in their lunch hour having been assured the food would come out in good time. They had 15 to eat before the lunch hour was over. Saying that the food was very good.

Eagle & Child is one of the oldest pubs in Leyland & also one of the best family friendly local pubs you'll find if you've never been to this pub before. If this sounds like your kind of pub to drink in or have a meal then come on down to Leyland i can highly recommend this pub. i rate this pub 10/10 its excellent indeed.

It's really quite a tired building now, in need of some TLC. But the welcome you recieve is very warm and welcoming.

We attended the eagle for our annual over 65s Christmas lunch, The food was outstanding. The atmosphere and environment, the energy from the team made a lot of our local community very happy. Merry Christmas!

I'm sorry to say, this has been one of the worst pub meals we've had in the last few years. We've not been here for the last year or so after moving out of the area, but have had some decent food in the Eagle & Child in the past. Today 06/12/23 was absolutely awful. We waited over an hour for the food to arrive, but when it ( Hunters chicken for three of the meals) finally turned up, it was over cooked, unable to be cut with conventional knives, bacon was as black as the sole of your shoe (and just as tough). You need to do far better than this to tempt us back.

We recently came in for food , the food was lovelly a great variety on the menu for all requirements, really nice friendly relaxing atmosphere, polite friendly staff, and lovelly couple who run the pub, be back soon for christmas dinner 😁

Would rather drink in a s*** hole than experience the c*** customer service from the intoxicated land lord for walking through the door again.

I visited this pub tonight. On entry the owner screamed asking for my groups IDs , this was very embarrassing. I could tell the owner, Phil, was intoxicated. I believe this due to the state he was in and that he was acting like this infront of a full pub. Bare in mind 3/4 of the party have been here multiple times as they are locals. Due to sheer embarrassment we left the pub without showing our IDs.

Still a friendly pub but has lost alot of the regulars for some reason - not sure needs some more choice of decent ales (I know it's tied to Marstons)!

New to the area Been in a few times now for drinks, Good pint, not met landlady but the bar staff are very friendly an helpful on info I've asked for, will defo be going back regularly... Dave

My wife and I plus a daughter had lunch and the food was first class. In particular I have to say the chips were absolutely delicious - not chunky nor "skinny fries". Its a very, very long time since I enjoyed chips so much.

Best Pub in Leyland, always has been, always will be. Been my local for since the late 80's. Great food, Great Ale, Friendly people, Family friendly, nice garden, parking, great Sunday Roasts, all day breakfasts and steak n ale pie, not many people know how great the food his, so it's easy to get a walk in without booking 🍻 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A nice little friendly pub with great beer with a reasonable price also with a good Haunting history for all you ghost fans out there also with excellent quality of food with a short waiting time and friendly locals with a verity of drinks and meal including their house beers. It's also child friendly also has a good sized beer garden where you can some and/or vape and to drink and eat upside it really is a fantastic place for a night out or just for a quiet drink also the staff are very approachable and patient it's always been clean and tidy and also when you have a meal there the ale is fantastic in my opinion such a lovely draft also it's not really a good place for parking as it's in the middle of the town centre but it's close to plenty of takeaways which is always good. I have been going for years now and haven't had any trouble with any locals I really do suggest that you give the Eagle and child (the bird) visit also to toilets are always have been clean and tidy and easily to access and they have a down stairs toilet facilities for people when struggle to go upstairs and table services are pervided also including live bands pool and darts and did I mention the ghost history behind the the Eagle and child?? Then ask the locals they will tell you all about it and its also dog friendly.

Cold pub with doors open! Atmosphere during day poor. Music too low volume. Didn't feel comfortable. Shame, I used to go in all the time in the 90s, not as good now. Outside area ok to sit in Spring/ Summer. Prices a little high.

Only popped in for directions, were very helpful. Let us use the toilets too. Looked a lovely homely pub

Plate for my mixed grill was way to small nearly £15. Hardly any chips , because there was no room. 😔

Upon entering at the bar we were warmly greeted by cheerful staff and superbly looked after during our stay. Great selection of beers and larger. Buffet food was appreciated as were the chip barm

Ordered food here and am really sorry to say we were so disappointed. Party of 5 and the kids meals were awful. Everything deep fried i could literally squeeze the grease out of the chicken dipper! . Jacket potato was hard and chilli tasteless. Real shame as I haven't been for a while and sadly won't be returning.

Love going to the Eagle and Child our bike club meet every month , lovely coffee and excellent food most of us have a meal at the meeting .

Great local pub. Been going there since 1980's. Under great management with fab staff,very friendly. Superb value meals and excellent choices. Good selection of beers.

First time in years I've been back here. 4 well kept cask ales on, all from marstons range. I had the mixed grill excellent choice on the plate very reasonably priced too

Landlady has an appalling attitude. Not been in for a while so thought we would give it a go. Not many people in for a bank holiday weekend now I know why. Certainly won't go back in a hurry. Seriously need to change your attitude towards paying customers, so many other pub's in Leyland with welcoming hosts.

Lovely pub with a great atmosphere and friendly staff .There is a large menu with a wide variety of meals .Our meals were served piping hot and tasted delicious .We will definitely be back when we are in the area

Nice pub. Pros: good outside area, pub quiz, food, dog friendly, pub quiz, old fashioned aesthetic. cons: food stops very early, pub quiz goes on very late for a Thursday, not very good non-alcoholic beer options (just Heineken).

We came here for a Sunday lunch in early December of 2021 and covid measures as required at the time were in place and all good. We had the sunday roast which was good. The surroundings of the pub is really lovely as it is clearly very old and retains its character.

The pub was very quiet when we paid a visit to get food & drink. Barmaid advised us that they stopped serving food at 5.30pm - giving us just 25 minutes to order from the menu. Food was of average quality which probably explained why there were no other diners. Probably not going to bother with any revisit following this disappointing visit.

It was ok but nothing that stood out with pub. Had a weird smell due to the ales I think.

My local pub and the only go to pub in leyland. Lovley friendly staff ,landlord and landlady. Really tasty food my daughter will especially vouch for this. Great variety of lagers and real ales. Live music,quiz nights and the legendary chase the ace game with massive jackpots and best of all 8 FREE PINTS when you win the raffle. Play your cards right is.one of my favourite games which runs on quiz night. All in all this is a lovley traditional warm and welcoming establishment where if you visit you will most certainly come again.x

Absolutely the go to pub in Leyland. A proper community local with a decent selection of real ales. Every time we have ordered food it has been top quality. Quiz night and play your cards right on Thursdays which is always busy and full of laughs. I see that some decking has been built in the garden, hopefully there’s some live acts on this summer. That’s what I like about this management couple, always raising the bar, keep up the good work.

I had lunch today, and choose lasagne it was awful, burnt and hard stuck to the dish at both sides, it tasted like a cheap no frills supermarket one, the garlic bread dry and could not taste the garlic or butter. The savignon blanc was also very poor even at over£6 per glass, overall very poor

Came in yesterday for a drink around 6pm - lovely atmosphere and clean pub - very friendly young lady behind the bar who had a lovely conversation with us! Will be returning in the future and maybe have some food 😊

The lady behind the bar was very friendly and welcoming and served me throughout our stay. We came from Birmingham with our dog and was welcomed as a family with a dog. Food was very fresh and amazing taste. Pub was clean and very warm after a long walk around the park.

The vodka and coke was really nice, it has a cosy feel to it and it both times I was there, had really lovely company. In the future I might go for food and see what the food is like there because yeh drinks are decent and pretty good. I also had a really lovely strawberry and pomegranate cider when I was there September 27th too

Great little pub and the food there is great and really good value. Great little atmosphere, noticed they have quizzes and live music on all throughout the week as well.

We went for a family celebration, the food was amazing and the staff were fantastic, thank you for making our night a night to remember.

Lovely local pub with a friendly vibe and welcoming staff. great large beer garden. food menu is varied but with great pub classics, lots of vegan options including bbq cauliflower and pies.

Mixed grill : mixed emotions!! Tasted like everything was deep fried!! 4oz steak asked for medium rare, was tough and over cooked. 8oz steak asked for rare- was tougher than Mike Tyson!!! I took the plate with the aftermath and was greeted with "oh ok!! " Also had to ask for the tomato. When it came - had a distinct taste of being deep fried!!! No skin on it I think gave the game away!!! I expecpected then at least a conversation with the land lady - nope - nothing - no apology - no offer of free drink or desert. When a complaint is made, surely it should have been acknowledged in some manner. Absolutely no way will I frequent this pub again - not even to use the WC.

Humm, well not good. I ordered a mixed grill, oh boy what a disaster 95% deep fat fried, and the 4oz steak! Well must have been on the super weighwatcher diet. Dust would have weighted more. I guess I shouldn't have expected to much in the way of quality, but come on when you approach the bar staff with your complaint and your greeted with a look from Micheal Jackson Thriller video. I can but give a very very poor review. Never enter the place again.
