The Herbalist in Maidstone

Many different dishes, good quality and excellent service by Chloe. We ate here two days at a row with a group of 10 people. Greeting from Holland!

Great service by Chloe, who was the only server for the whole restaurant, but she did a great job nonetheless! Well done Chloe!

19/04/2024. We were out celebrating our colleague’s birthday. Amy our waitress was just superb. She was able to answer all questions re the food and remembered what everyone had ordered. Everything arrived hot and in a timely manner. Amy was very friendly knowledgeable and we felt she looked after our group really well. Thank you!

The atmosphere was vibrant, the food and service was excellent. Paul did a great job ensuring our dining experience was tip top. Would definitely dine again.

We were very kindly welcomed and served by Jarvie. The chefs cooked a smashing meal and we could not fault it ! The beef shin ragu and king prawns on toast were our faves. Would highly recommend.

This is my regular pub. Such a lovely atmosphere. My fav Pragues Staropramen served with huge smile by Chloe and jarvis. Will be back again

Great food. Interesting menu Kye was charming and very helpful. Loved the cocktails. Only suggestion was to have a lttle more distance between the diners and the slightly louder after work drinkers

Paul was excellent and meal was lovely but be aware you have to pay a deposit to book the table. The £80 was not taken off our bill and we were charged £10 due to one of our party unable to attend due to illness, which I think was unfair

I enjoyed it and I would go again but it was pricey so it would have to be a treat. The person who invited me asked for private dining so we were disappointed when we were first offered a space in the main dining area and then moved to an annexe that was a bit tight for the numbers. When I pre ordered I asked for sorbet for dessert and was given ice cream which was very nice but not what I asked for. The service was very good and the young lady who attended to us was excellent.

Great place ,I really enjoyed the cocktails! The food was delicious and delivered in good time ,I didn't feel we was waiting too long. We couldn't fit in a pudding (which is surprising for me because I'm a pig !) ,but they did look delicious! They have a great selection of cocktails 🍸, the only downfall for me was it was very noisy ,but that's what you get in a large restaurant....I just find it quite alot and of you are someone who struggles with that you may want to request a quieter spot in the corner or something

I was worried about going to Maidstone town centre on a Saturday night, and the Herbalist confirmed my fears. Deafening noise, impossible to talk without shouting. The service was ok, but the food was just - not good. My daughter's steak was burned - unfortunately...

A little expensive for a pub chain but it was worth it. Very tasty food, none of your boil in the bag, microwave rubbish.

The venue is really nice, a little on the chilly side when we visited, but I guess that's the state of current energy costs. Service was good and friendly. Unfortunately I thought the food was underwhelming for the cost.

A superb experience, great atmosphere, great decor, welcoming staff, super-helpful servers. A really interesting menu too, and the food was fantastic. We’re definitely coming back.

Enjoyed a very nice meal at The Herbalist, a venue I haven't visited before. Good food and nice environment; the experience was enhanced by our server Ella, who made us feel like we were the only table that she was serving despite being a busy night. I'd also like to give a nod to the door personnel who were very welcoming.

Nice, varied menu - king prawn linguini was excellent. Everyone’s food looked great. Good staff, nice atmosphere. Tarquin’s gin is my favourite and it was a nice surprise to see it listed on the drinks menu.

Great evening. Ellie was fantastic. She was very welcoming and made the time to engage and ensure we had all we needed. Great service that you don’t see very often nowadays.

My partner and I have always previously been to the Potting Shed, however, the menu looked better at the Herbalist so as a treat I took her there! And what a treat it was! Firstly, I had an amaretto sours, and it was by far the best I've ever had! Considering it's my favourite drink anyway, its quite the achievement to make it taste even better! Then on to starters, I got the halloumi fries and my partner got the katsu croquettes, I was jealous as the croquettes tasted delicious! Mains I had a fillet steak, my partner the Kyiv, the steak was perfectly cooked and melted in my mouth, it was better than steaks from the likes of M and Gaucho! However the Kyiv... So tasty and yet again I find myself slightly jealous!! For dessert, we both had the crème brûlée, the biscuit on the side had some nice subtle spices and the Crème Brûlée was as expected. The atmosphere was great and to finish it off the service was stop on thanks to AmyR. The Herbalist is now my new favourite restaurant, keep up the excellent work!

Very poor quality of the food. The service and coctails ware awful 😖 I will never come back.

Our birthday girl wanted coctails. however, after some research, most places in Kent say they are a coktail bar, but offer less than 10 cocktails, and they are the same old ones everyone has. I came across the Juniper that had over 30, with some really wonky ones she really wanted to try, however the Birthday girl is disabled and not able to go down the stairs (no other disabled access). I called the Herbalist and explained, they offered an alternative. there was some confusion when we got there as originally I was told that as long as it was discrete and not constant I could pop down and grab some cocktails, however when we arrived we were told this couldn't happen. It was all sorted in the end and they offered to make any that we wanted if they had the ingredients. Most were the same between the two menus, apart from the bartenders flare section (fire, dry ice, candy floss). They did offer to stop people coming up and down the stairs for a couple of minutes to see if she could make it (able to hobble a little), but she declined as she was more worried about getting up! In the end we stayed where we were. Have to say the lady from the bar was amazing very attentive! She even popped downstairs and grabbed a dry ice wand (put in a cocktail it makes bubbles and fog) We ordered cocktails and food, just randomly as we fancied it as we were there for cocktails and not the restaurant. In the end we had the scallops, french onion soup, cheese board, cremebrulee, seasonal veg, bread and they were lovely. We did have the halloumi fries, but they were not right for us. 12 cocktails later (all different) and we were very happy. Lovely atmosphere, we got there at 17:00, at around 17:30 they dimmed the lights, at about 18:00 they turned up the music. I assume this is to coincide with Junipers opening at 17:30. If you are wanting to go to the Junipers but can't make it downstairs, call the Herbalist and explain!!!

Great atmosphere and decor with lovely food, as is expected with any of the Elite pub group. Chloe and Ella were very friendly and attentive and added to our lunch experience!

Excellent service from Chloe for my daughters Hen Party Food was fab as was the service. Nothing was too much trouble. Will return again soon

The herbalist is a great pub, part of the elite pub chain which from the ones I have been to have all been similar. Food was fairly big portions and they cater for vegans if that is required (dairy, gluten free)

Been twice, once for Sunday lunch and as a result of how tasty that was, I booked our work Christmas meal there. Tasty food, good drink selection, everyone had a good time

Certainly pricier than your average pub but you get what you pay for. Top notch food & drink. The staff are well looked after too in comparison to competition which makes it all the better. I can't endorse the elite pubs chain more than I currently do. Pay them a visit!

Very good service and food, lively location.

Staff were friendly and accommodating, the atmosphere was busy enough for it to feel like being out but there was enough space for it not to feel claustrophobic. Food was excellent as was the wine, not overcomplicated but interesting, whole place nicely decorated and clean. We would definitely consider going back and trying some other courses. They seem to have got the balance right in every part of the operation.

We had a great night, the food was very good and we received lovely service from Ella who was friendly and efficient - a real credit to your team. Thoroughly recommended.

Absolutely fantastic meal with my family today. Wonderful food and Jarvis was an absolute star of a host! Always recommend here. Maidstone doesn't have many good places but this is definitely at the top!

Nice location in Maidstone Town Centre. Average drink prices with a fair choice. Didn't eat on this occasion so unable to comment on food. Only downfall is I find is its freezing cold in the winter, especially if you are sitting in the bar area near the door!

Absolutely brilliant food, although a bit over priced (in my opinion). Good vibe, but tables a bit too close together. Very friendly and helpful wait staff; however, they are a bit overworked (too few servers) so we had to ask more than once for table water. When water did arrive, one of the jugs contained dust in the water.

Loved the different flavours of the food. Great service and a large range of cocktails, gins and everything really.

We had a lovely time at the herbalist. The interior was beautiful and the food was amazing! I had the prawn linguini. The staff were attentive and polite, Paul was our server and he was really friendly. Service was super quick and they even did a birthday desert for my friend. Had a delightful meal out just my fiancé and myself. What made the visit was the waitress Ella, as neither of us had been before we didn’t know what was good on the menu, but Ella gave us her favourites and they were bob on ! Nice food good atmosphere where I was sat a little cold and drafty but I’d highly recommend a meal out there, and we will be going back.
