The George in Maidstone

Perfect - and such a wide choice on the menu - we will be back (this was our second recent visit anyway)

For a while the George lost its way. Now it is back with a very friendly and laid back "sports bar" vibe which we as a a family love!

Service and setting were good. Outside seating for a hot day! Drinks were good. Decent menu. Food was adequate.

What a great place, picked at random for lunch with friends and not disappointed by our choice. Friendly and welcoming, with staff who could not do enough for you. Even the chef, who had great sense of humour, put in an appearance to check on customer satisfaction. Great choice of menu, very reasonably priced with premium quality food which could not be faulted. Would definitely visit again and happy to recommend to anyone.

As we were in lock down I ordered a delivery of fish and chips. Wow! fresh cod,lovely chips,mushy peas and tartar sauce. The free delivery was on time and the food was delicious. Huge portions and a fair price.

So friendly and food was wonderful, lovely real fire, gem of a pub. All restrictions adhered to making us confident to be there in the current environment

Fantastic food and service,Pizza and ribs top marks, It's just sad we only found this place on our last night of our stay.

We ate here this evening and the service was so friendly and accommodating. They bought water for our dog, went out of their way to cater for our vegan daughter and the food was amazing. We were expecting pub food but got exceptional service and fine dining quality food. Thank you George staff and compliments to your amazing chef.

They are back as a pizza restaurant with an extended menu and it is bloody good great food and welcoming as ever

Take away pizza the George is boing a brilliant job not only the best pizza in town (the town is pretty small) I would go as far as the best in Kent. Good price great quality Thank you

We popped in here today on the strength of the previous Tripadvisor reviews. VERY disappointed. The starters were very good. I had the Bruschetta with parma ham, and my wife had the mushrooms in a cream sauce. The salted bread that came with the mushrooms was pretty much inedible though because of the sheer amount of salt on it. The cod is a piece of drab, frozen fish in a pre-cut shape with a thin batter on it. Peas were frozen, as were the chips, despite them being described as hand made. I had the burger, which was as normal a burger as any I have ever tasted. Once again, frozen skinny chips and a very vinegary, bought by the gallon coleslaw. I would never go back, even if it meant going hungry. Although I must say that I did enjoy the bruschetta.

First visit ever to this pub for a Family Birthday lunch in the middle of December. The service was very good, as were the food and Real Ales! Would definitely go back.

Good food and a great Sunday roast would recommend it a nice area for children to play in Tony'@ July put on entertainment in the summer

This was our third visit to the George and every time it’s been top food and service all reasonably priced, very good for families, the menu has a great range of options and the portions are big, even the kids meals are big!, All the staff here are very friendly and helpful and there’s a nice atmosphere in the pub. Will definitely be revisiting.

My wife and I went to The George with a Groupon voucher, with our daughter and dog in tow. The staff and the locals were really friendly and the food was great. Huge choice and big portions. Even if we hadn't used a Groupon voucher the prices were very reasonable for both food and drink. The interior is understated, and... er... a pub! If you want pretentious overpriced food with a false "ambience" you'll be disappointed. If you want a friendly place with good food and good prices you will be very pleased. I only wish I'd discovered it sooner so we could have enjoyed a meal outside overlooking the river in the sunny weather! We'll be back

Good old fashioned pub grub. Large portions and staff really friendly. Well worth a visit as not many pubs like this left.

Everytime we visit, we have a relaxing time, staff friendly, locals will actually be friendly and chat, never any bad vibes here. Fantastic music played, wonderful, peaceful garden, nice decor, clean toilet, don't mind if you are too ill to consume alcohol or food, so sorry can't review the food, although a couple opposite seemed to really enjoy their pizza, the fish and chips looked good too. Atmosphere almost like being on holiday abroad, relaxing, friendly, but full of life. Don't mind serving soft drinks.

Went on a groupon offer, and I must say it was a most enjoyable evening. A very warm reception and great waiting staff. We were shown to our table and drinks order was taken immediately and drinks delivered timely whilst we looked at the menu. The food was well cooked and very good portions. Great atmosphere and well run pub. I would highly recommend and will be returning soon.

Me and my partner booked this restaurant via Groupon, we bought it and as stipulated by Groupon and the George we then booked it through their online system, easy, booked, and ready to go

A very beautiful place to be but the staff are unable to cope with the pressure of customer turnover and start becoming rude in reply’s and the hospitality totally runs out of the Backdoor.

4 of us visited the George on 3 occasions while on a week away in Yalding, Kent. We recived good bar service, the drinks were reasonably priced and there was plenty of places to sit, including in the large outside garden.

We went to 'The George' on a 'Groupon' voucher for lunch. It was absolutely superb! It was a lovely sunny day and as we had our dog with us we sat in the garden. My Husband had the Sirloin steak, egg and chips and I had the George chicken and bacon salad. We were both bowled over by the size of the portions! we were not disappointed by the quality of the food, it was lovely. The Landlady (we think she was, apologizes if not!) is very nice and friendly as was the man behind the bar. We had a relaxing lunch in nice surroundings with gorgeous food. What more could you want on a BH weekend? We will definitely be back and also recommend to friends. Thank you.

Lunch with friends. We all had a fish dish and they were all lovely. Battered haddock and Dover sole especially. Larger portions much better than last time. Still a bit pricey.

Visited today with my mum for lunch. Lovely food, great service. Well done to the staff, very friendly even let me use their telephone! Will definitely be returning :)

I was taken to the George by a local couple.It is a very straight forward,unpretentious place and most of the menu looks the same. But at weekends there is fresh fish cooked in a variety of ways to a very high standard by the owner manager. On Easter Monday he had wild salmon,dover sole and cod available, I had freshly battered cod which was the best I have tasted in decades. The wine list is basic but priced to sell.

Decided to visit on a very rainy bank holiday for lunch. The owner saw us in the car park and came out with an umbrella because he saw we had a little one in toe - how thoughtful.

A warm welcome although it was busy. One roast beef and one roast pork - both delicious! With Yorkshire puds and a variety of vegetables we were too full for dessert this time but will be back!

An hour and a half to gill on a Tuesday evening - impromptu visit - great plate of omelette ,chips and salad and a nicely kept pint.

I took my family to lunch here 5 adults and 2 kids. 7 meals with drinks came to £67ish and all were great, my sirloin steak egg and chip was perfect and for £12.95 I was impressed with the amount of steak. My dad's chicken salad was the first one I've seen that tempted me. Good surroundings even a screen for football only problem is parking was a bit tight. Will be going back soon x

I had the pork chop and it was divine; simple english pork well cooked with a great sauce and vegs. Pub food as it should be!

We were camping nearby at Still Acres and went out for a drive to find our dinner and found The George with its lovely décor, staff who couldn't do enough for you and were very friendly. Our steak dinners were very reasonably priced and huge and what with ample parking and lovely ambience, we came back twice more. The regulars were all very pleasant and chatty and made us feel welcome.

Had a lovely afternoon in the riverside gardens with neighbours and their children. Lovely play area. Nice lagers and ales. Recommend the Wolf Rock.

We went to the George today ( Friday 28th)

A reasonable roadside pub with a Czechoslovakian landlady. The beer was served well but the white wine was not cold. Cost for a pint of beer and large white wine £8.30.

Had lunch again. Enjoyable time. Friend had nice scampi and chips, I asked for the salmon fillet. The salmon was nice, accompanied by 2 spoons of rice, also flavoured nice, and 3 salad leaves. Together with a large white wine and a pint of the guest ale. No starter, no pudding. We were charged £32,=.

Today, a group of 8 cyclists called in for lunch at The George.

So much fun. Lovely friendly people even though dressed up with faces unzipped and machetes in the head. Very loud but excellent band absolutely brilliant night thank u xx danced all eve had gr8 time xx

This pub has been re vamped by new owners. They are really lovely people. Can't do enough for you,the food is good and the chef who is the landlord does an excellent bruschetta ,if you ask for. Something different he will try to accomodate you. There is a lovely safe garden for children,and fishing in the river is £10 this also includes a lunch. Reasonable prices. They have a barbecue at times and have pork on the spit which is lovely. Worth a look as yalding quite a lovely village to visit. They also have live music at weekends.

Our youngest son took my husband and I for lunch last week with his two children aged 8 and 4. The inside restaurant looked very nice and Comfortable but, we sat outside as the kids wanted to play on the newly constructed play area. Th food was very tasty and plentiful whilst, there was quite a good choice to pick from with plenty suitable for children. Most pleasant lunch out and good value

This public house has a very family environment the publician and his family can't do enough for you the area is very child friendly I haven't in years visited a public where they are looking after their customer's so well the menu is for both adults and children and they speak to children hoping that they are also enjoying the experience this is rare family run public house go enjoy the relaxed family atmosphere

The George has been transformed into a delightful family friendly place to enjoy drinks and exceptional food. Tony, Julie, Chris and Lenka always makes everyone welcome and gives 110% to ensure their customers are well catered for and looked after; all with a friendly smile and happy banter! With a lovely play area for children in a beautiful riverside setting, it is a wonderful way to while away an hour or so on a sunny afternoon. There is also live music every other weekend with an eclectic range of artistes to suit all tastes in a warm and and inviting way. They make a great team and go the extra mile to make sure their establishment is the best that it can be.

This is a superb friendly pub, spotless inside, with a nice decor. We were made to feel welcome and comfortable in a local pub. food was on point

We were walking in the area and popped in for a sandwich. The food was average but all our orders were mixed up and presented with little aplomb! My tuna sandwich was just half a tin of tuna between 2 slices of bread. Coffee was good. Prices were a bit steep. Cutlery didn't match.

Was passing through and stopped for something to eat ....pub grub at its best ....friendly service nothing was too much trouble food great and service better definitely worth a visit ....free wifi as well all in all a lovely visit
