The Head of Steam Quayside in Newcastle upon Tyne

I give this place 5 stars for it's Craft Beer selection in cans and bottles. A great selection of hazys, pales and lagers not to mention a really good selection of Belgium bottles. They even have a nice selection of drafts. Not overly adventurous but still better than the same ol stuff you find everywhere. I didn't eat here but I can whole heartedly recommend it for a place to relax and enjoy a pint. Be it Craft beers, Belgium triples, or drafts.

We regularly come here for lunch on nice days after a walk along the quayside. The only bit I don't like about it is that the tables, sauce bottles and menus are usually sticky to the touch. That aside, they have a really comprehensive beer menu (we enjoyed pineapple and grapefruit wheat beer shandies last time) and the food is pretty good. The lunch menu offers a good discount and we usually go for burgers or gyros.

Some unusual beers and ales here but pricing was a bit high. Nice decor and on the quayside but first chair my partner sat in was broken. Never tried the food but menu sounded nice.

Only across the river from our hotel so we decided to start the afternoon off here. Cracking pub, friendly locals and decent prices for a wide selection of beers.

Great craft beers available from all over the world. Chilled out and comfortable atmosphere at venue. Bit of a reek coming from the bathrooms though, 5* if that gets sorted.

Really lovely place on the quayside just off the river incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff. Give you a sample if you aren't sure of which of the range of new drinks they have on the pump. Great range of beers and ciders

Great beer and even greater staff!!!! If you like your ales and really good quality beer then this is a must! Loads of different beers to try and pretty good prices! The food prices are good as well ! Highly recommended!

Quick service, friendly staff, portions of food are large. If eating food, try to avoid the taller tables with chairs as the chairs are too short and you feel like a child when trying to eat

We only had drinks in here, but it was a nice cosy bar to be in while it was raining outside. The staff were nice and they had a good selection of drinks.

Staff are super friendly and helpful and the food is fresh and delicious (the Asian chicken flatbread is a taste sensation!). The only reason I’ve given 3 stars out of 5 is I went on a Wednesday lunchtime and I was the only one there. Is this place isn’t buzzing at night what is the world coming to!

Gluten free pizza base on request which has to be pre-ordered! Poor service for somewhere that has Gluten free beer on tap. Such a shame that this place can't deal with allergens

Head of Steam has always been a solid option for a great selection of drinks, and this one is no exception to that. Prices have always been a bit high but reasonable given the variety. Food quality, however, could be better. Especially for the price. Scrappy chips, sauce sparse giros, average pizzas. It's "fine," but one would hope for slightly better portions or quality given the prices and expectations suggested in the menu.

They didn't have hells on draft working but apart from that it was a good atmosphere and I loved that dogs were welcome. I am definitely going to come for pint with the dog next time I visit.

My wife and I went for dinner here as it is close to our hotel. The menu looked good and a bit different from your usual pub grub. We were pleasantly surprised, the pub is huge and has different seating areas where you can sit and have a chat with friends, play games or just chill, eat and listen to the music. We ordered beef gyros and seafood tacos and both were amazing. Yes the food costs a little more than a chain pub but the food was fresh and extremely tasty. Good selections of beer as well, including some that I have never seen before. Would highly recommend.

Excellent bar with lots of beer options. Had an enormous 15 page menu of speciality beers from all over the world. Good balance of stouts, lights, darks and then sours and lambic fruit beers as well. We had a pizza to eat which was delicious and felt hand made and rustic.

We only popped in to change our Little ones nappy as he'd had an accident, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.

Literally walking past and decided to call in! Lots of choice in real ale, menu looked good so we ordered. My hubby got the Bourbon Smoker Burger and fries, I got the vegan 'chicken ' gyros and fries- flippen lovely!!! 👌

Wonderful pub. The staff are incredibly charming and welcoming. The public areas are comfortably furnished and cosy. The selection of ale is very good. It's a dog friendly venue. Really nice customers too. I haven't eaten here but will do so in the future. My favourite pub in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Classy but simple place with an extensive range of craft ales . Had a burger with fries (which was gourmet class)and a pint of lager for £11. Themed bar based around music played 70s soul and funk which is all right by me .

Visited as a large group of adults and children with some friends who are from outside of Newcastle. We thought this would be a nice place to eat after a scenic walk along the quayside. The food was nice but the service left a lot to be desired. A very frosty reception from a lady with red hair who was apparently the manager. Needs to brush up on her customer service skills, definitively not the friendly geordie welcome you’d expect.

Great beer, music and atmosphere. But the toilets were absolutely disgusting. Looked liked they had not been cleaned in months.

Called in here for a drink on a cold day . Lovely, comfy seating areas and nice chilled atmosphere. Delicious hot chocolate (just needed to be piping hot )

Me and my partner always make sure we visit this place when coming up to visit family in Newcastle. Very friendly staff, fantastic atmosphere, great beers and more. We had a meal here not too long ago on a very busy Saturday, and still couldn’t fault the service or delicious food. I’ll make it my mission some day to have one of their sharing boards to myself.

Friendly staff, came here for pre theatre meal and we enjoyed it. Leaves on the line burger and the lamb shawarma. Great choice of beers and ales, pleasant atmosphere and good tunes.

Great ales, kept really well. Friday night, noisily boistrius, so not to everyone's taste. Attentive staff, polite, friendly and welcoming.

The food was very nice, just a shame the "background" music was so loud.

Really enjoyed our lunch trip here on Monday. £10.50 for a great gyros, side & a pint of lager. One of the best vegan ranges in Newcastle, a class selection of beer & friendly staff who are knowledgeable on their craft booze. Good music too! 🤘🏼

Nice, large pub in a nice location, on the Quayside in Newcastle. Lots of separate booths, seating well-spaced. Owned by Cameron's and I was impressed with their own lager - plenty of flavour. Food likewise. The place had a great buzz about it. Will go again.

Had our staff party last night and have to say it was above and beyond. Emily organised it and set out a table reservation for our rather large group and it was ideal. Joe and his bartenders that night were friendly, welcoming and made some amazing drinks especially the honey margarita I was told. We were quite close to the kitchens closing time and in most places this would be an issue but there were no qualms in the slightest and a couple members of the group got some meals and they looked delicious, nachos and loaded fries I had a bite of were delicious and our own chefs were impressed at the speed of service and quality. Absolutely planning to go there for our next one and will be recommending to others !

Came in with a group of my friends for drinks recently, really impressed at the range of beer and craft ales available. A few of my friends are sober and usually struggle to find good non alcoholic alternatives but there was quite a bit of choice !! All staff that were serving gave great service despite it being a busy night and rushing around everywhere. The winter cocktail menu was a lovely Christmassy touch - one of my friends got the After Eight espresso martini and said it was gorgeous and it looked so pretty !!

£14 for a veggie burger and fries, for food quality similar to Morrisons, who charge £5. Chips were nice. Came without any cutlery and a rack of sauces which were mostly empty. No serviettes. The shawarma was inedible so just left it

Long ginger male staff member and blonde female staff member couldn't tell the difference between vegan and real seafood when they brought them out. Turns out both meals were vegan but they'd said they were meat, meaning the meat eater ate the vegan meal. They eventually brought out a real meat one after the meat eater had eaten, leaving the vegan eater with nothing to eat. Chips came out cold and the rest of the food was cold by the time cutlery was brought out. Terrible experience and won't be returning. Teach your staff how to discern between vegan and meat food, especially considering the vegan could have easily gotten ill due to a seafood allergy.

Nice place for an easy drink! Nice atmosphere but gets rowdy on match days

Called in for food and drinks before a visit to the Glasshouse; a quiet Sunday teatime. We pre-booked a table in case it was busy. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly young man who served us a couple of Erdinger lagers, whilst calling on someone to show us to our table, we were given a choice of a couple so we chose a booth. Again, our food order was taken by a friendly bar member, very chatty and pleasant. Pizza (Hawaiian), fries and onion rings were all delicious; pipping hot, enough for us to share, all at a reasonable price. Second time we've been for food and certainly won't be the last. It's a lovely place to visit for food or drinks, comfortable seating, clean with great staff. Would definitely recommend. Hope to visit again soon.

Me, my wife, our teenager and our dog had come out for the day to take a look around Newcastle quayside. We needed somewhere that wasn't to overly priced and was dog friendly. we came across The Head of Steam by searching for dog friendly in Newcastle on the internet, and decided to give it a go. The pub was very clean and tidy inside (I would describe it as "hip" if i was still in my 20's lol) and it was on the quieter side of busy for a weekday afternoon. The menu had a lunchtime meal deal running that had a small, somewhat limited selection of food with Drinks for £8 as a meal deal. (think burgers, gyros, taco's) These come with nachos or for 50p you can upgrade to fries (and they were very good fries!) The young lady behind the bar was polite and attentive, and she cam over to ask us more about my sons burger and how he would want it making up (he is quite picky) - she was also very friendly to our dog, giving him lots of fuss that he very much appreciated. Overall if you want somewhere to grab a light lunch at a reasonable price, close to the quayside and with a nice atmosphere, this is deffo one to keep on the list of possibilities. The only think i would say is outside of the meal deal, the main menu was quite pricey, and that should be considered if eating outside of lunchtime or seeking the wider menu options.

Really enjoyed the shawarma fries !! Such a big portion for the price and also was really happy to see so many vegan/vegetarian options across the entire menu! Staff were super friendly and helpful, warm atmosphere and really enjoyed the music :) thank you!!

We were a large group (11ppl) , so had to book a table in advance. Most of us had burgers, and everyone enjoyed their food. A good atmosphere too.

Best Guinness I've ever had. Shuffle board tables. Wish there was darts but otherwise brilliant!
