Smashburger in Newcastle upon Tyne

Really enjoyed the food here, good quality burger but the staff are the best bit as very friendly and accommodating, especially when it was a busy match day. Just what we needed before heading to a gig & very filling too!

The restaurant is beautiful and excellent The best employee in the restaurant is kim 👏🏻

Foods are great and friendly staff.

If you have a toddler, don't get the children's meal It's basically an adult meal with a burger taken out far too much okay for a six or seven year old plus maybe in future we will just share our food the chicken burger is way too much

I was craving some fried chicken so I tried their chicken sandwich What I got was a what looks to be frozen chicken fillet between two buns and some under seasoned fries. I don't know if their beef burgers are any better, but considering this place is about the same price as five guys, there is no universe where I would choose this over five guys

as profoundly deaf and don’t have any confidence to communicate with strangers, i’ve typed on my phone notes to show the staff asking for a vegan burger and somehow i ended up with a meat burger instead. Like seriously how could he misread this???!!!!! still managed to change the food but still was really disappointed with the services as i felt forced to speak up the staff for their mistake.

Disappointing. The meat was incredibly dry.

I was hoping for something a bit better, I was even happy to pay the price for it. The menu was easy to navigate. The service was good, friendly and helpful. However the food was decidedly average. The burger was dry, the bun was nothing special and the fries were not good - super greasy & not an exaggeration. They appeared to be re-heats! The pricing and appearance of this place suggests that I'm buying a higher class of burger, cooked by people that know what they are doing. This is not the case.

First time visiting, my son and I both had the Bacon Double Cheeseburger, agreed this was delicious, skin on fries were a little disappointing, but ok, Good value for money, would definitely return.

Need to improve the service and taste to justify the price

As always great food. Only thing I would comment is that the displayed menu on the overhead display and the menu on the tables doesn’t have the vegetarian on and the printed menu has neither on, it wasn’t until we went onto the app in determination to find the vegetarian burger did we find it! May put those passing by off if its not on display. We always really enjoy our visits here- please don’t stop offering vegetarian options as not all of us want to be vegan and eat fake cheese:)

My daughters have visited today, staff were rude, shouted at them after leaving them waiting 15 minutes to be seated. Staff should be ashamed if how they've spoken to them told them "does it look like we've got mayo" when they asked for mayo. Just because they're teenagers doesn't give you the right to be rude. Their money is as good as anyone's. Whoever the woman was who served them, get a grip.

Wonderful food, great service, sanitised atmosphere more than made up for by the friendliness and service of the staff and quality of the food. Well done!

Terrible service staff stood around chatting slow to deliver food despite being ready had to repeatedly ask for cutlery condiments, where’s our drinks which we had to prompt them for even after food was served.

Ordered 2 smash burgers with smash fries and 2 drinks. Food was tasty until I cut into the burger half way through and noticed it was raw in the middle. Had to leave the majority of the food as it made me feel ill. My partners was still pink but cooked a lot better than mine. Definitely won’t be back.

Paid £61 for 3 burgers and fries. No options for side dishes or salad and the dips are tiny. NEVER AGAIN. Absolute rip off. Sort it out cos they aren't worth that at all

Extremely busy but didnt have to wait for a table . Nothing too much trouble . Staff friendly and helpful. Food amazing. Ordered bottom le drink and as they were changing machine they gave both myself and partner a 500ml bottle of pop each and told us to still us the machine when fixed. Food was really nice made to order . My new favorite food.

The waiters don’t know the table plan and juked us out at least 4 times by bringing us a burger that wasn’t ours. Took about 7,5 years for the food to come and in that time I could’ve payed off my mortgage and had 3 loving kids that are already in university. Overall very poor service.

V good burgers.....loads better than the fat hippo ...plenty of fries.. potato fries looked amazing...no salt or pepper....haway man ... No condiments on view ...

Been coming on & off for years. Place started off amazing but has steadily declined over the years. Had the Double Spicy Jalapeno Smash & the Double Oklahoma. Those use fresh jalapeno so it's pretty spicy but so lacking in flavour. Have these folks not heard of salt & pepper? The Double Oklahoma just suffers from poor quality meat. I assume by mixing in onions they're hoping they can use lower quality meat? Finally when did they stop smashing the burgers? Mine were perhaps vaguely slapped but definitely not smashed and hence very little charring on the burger. And again thereby reducing the flavour potential greatly. Chicken Smash got a thumbs up from my daughter so that saves this from a 1-star review. For higher-end burgers Five Guys down the street near Monument now exceeds this place in my humble opinion. Also would recommend Meat Stack down the hill in the Bigg Market area. It pains me to say this but recent experiences at Burger King even exceed Smashburger now. Also the advertised opening times are deceiving as they actually close the restaurant at 8pm. It's takeout only til 10pm. C'mon folks bring back the good old days.

Not only the best burger & fries I've had in the UK but anywhere! I asked for regular french fries well done and every single one was perfectly crisp & tasty. I ordered the Spicy Jalapeno Baja and it was near perfection. On top of it such friendly & lovely service even close to shutting time. This easily beats my former champion Five Guys, Shack Shack in London or Almost Famous over in Manchester. I had Smashburger in Philadelphia and this Newcastle branch was better. The only place that I can remember coming close to this is the Corner Bistro in New York City. BTW I'd suggest the regular french fries over the smashfries which seem overengineered to me. I very much look forward to my return to see if Smashburger UK is truly the new UK hamburger champ! Until then thank you to the Newcastle crew on Tuesday, 3 September for a fabulous and unexpected delight :-) Sadly would add the Oklahoma style burgers not that great; poor quality patties.

Should be more places like this to give McDonald's a run for its money

Very average burger joint at above average prices.

We ordered the meal deals there were 5 of us, and every meal came at different times, the wife's chips were cold and when we complained they said they would get her some more, I had to ask again about them by which time she ha finished her burger and they brought the chips just we were about to leave🤦‍♂️ when yo are paying nearly double what a McDonald's is you expect a little bit better.

First ever time trying smash burger order on Uber eats and I can say it was not the best burger had a soapy after taste and the fires were dripping in grease can say it’s not worth 44 pound

Ordered cheese and bacon beef burger, fries and loaded blue cheese and ranch fries. Bit pricey for what you get but reasonable portion size and also not bad quality, staff friendly and area clean as well as a canny atmosphere, wouldnt be my first choice of fast food but would come back 😛

Canny burger. Chips were great. On a downer, ne broon sauce, it took owa 10mins to get me bait.

Ordered spicy jalapeno smash burger. Till staff messed up, tried to tell chef..... Still got what I didn't order..... Ended up with a plain flavourless classic smash burger....

Terrible one big rip off. Had better at burger King and for a quater of the price. Staff were miserable took ages for the order. Will never waste another penny at this place. No wonder it was quite with staff and service like that.

I genuinely can't say if it was nice or not, the burger has no taste apart from the jalapeños. Bun not toasted. Chips seemed reheated. No salad and sauce as requested

Good ' kids eat free ' deal on Wednesday (not sure if this is every Wednesday or just random days. Although it was very quiet, we got told off for walking in the wrong entrance and finding our own table. You're actually supposed to wait at the stand, but this isn't terribly obvious and we saw two other parties get the same treatment, so obviously it wasn't just our mistake!

Look at the pictures 📸 Honestly, I don't know what happened to this restaurant, which was distinguished by its burger steaks, because recently it has become a dry burger patty that does not contain any liquids that have been grilled for a longer period, and there is no taste at all. The other dishes were honestly delicious and the staff needs to be more smiling and friendly with customers.

My partner and I went in after debating it for ages due to the higher price tag than other regular burger places. It has been voted best burger and while I agree it is a good burger I'm not sure about the best part. There was nothing specifically wrong with it but I believe based on the high expectations set by the award and price tag it resulted in us being a little bit underwhelmed. Service was friendly and efficient. If I could please suggest more options for non fizzy juice as currently there wasn't much to choose from unless you wanted fizzy pop, hot drinks or milkshakes. There was a squash version but only one flavour. I would appriciate seeing an extra flavour or two of that. The fries are perfect. Might come again to try other menu items but not sure yet.

I stopped by for some dinner at teatime after a busy Saturday in Newcastle. The restaurant was pretty quiet, and we were seated by a friendly lady immediately. We were told that we could order at the counter or use a QR code to order at the table. We chose to order at the counter, and again, we were met with a nice friendly man and served promptly. Our food was served hot not long after we ordered and was presented nicely in wire baskets. I had the Signature Crispy Chicken Smash Burger with a side of sweet potato fries. The burger was delicious. The chicken was tasty and perfectly crispy and cooked perfectly. The burger had lettuce,tomatoes,red onions, and pickles with mayo, but I could have done with more sauce on the bun. The bun was also very tasty. The fries were to die for... Enough said! Overall, the price was just about right, but I wouldn't pay any more than I did for the meal.

Asked for a plain bacon cheeseburger and i still got things i didnt ask for on my burger and when they took it back they still brought it back with the same things on

Burgers were delicious, one of the best burgers I’ve tasted. Staff took care of my mustard allergy and food was served quickly. I would love to see more aspect of the dining experience - for example waiters taking orders, doing check backs, asking if we’re finished etc as it’s all done by a QR code or counter service. But not going to mark them down on that as this is the way the company operates. Otherwise it’s spot on, definitely revisiting.

Had both versions of the loaded tater tots and the mac and cheese bites, fair to say i’m impressed :) love love loved them!!! don’t get me wrong it’s a little bit on the expensive side but still really enjoyed xx

Had the Truffle Mushroom Swiss burger which was superb! Fries were great too. Fancied a Banana Milkshake but couldn't see that as an option so went for an Irn-Bru instead!

Unbelievable food this! I have the Oklahoma Bacon Burger, Incredible… The Cheese and Bacon Potato Tots are the best of the best. Absolutely incredible.

I visited SmashBurger in Newcastle in early May! I had the Bacon Cheeseburger it was excellent 10/10. I also had the Blueberry Muffin shake which was absolutely incredible and the portion size you get is brilliant. The staff were really helpful as well.

RUBBISH, I can’t believe I paid 40 pounds for two chicken burgers, chips and two cokes and for it to be biggest disappointment ever. Burger came on a disgusting brown bun (which I didn’t order) and was missing sauces and our add ons. We didn’t get our drinks and the chips were cold and bland. So disappointed, wouldn’t even have paid 5 quid for that meal. I was starving so tried my best to enjoy my meal but was absolutely utterly gross UPDATE: still not received a refund after multiple emails. 40 pounds is a lot to spend, such a waste of money

Nice burgers and fries, which is more expensive than the likes of McDonald's but better quality. Staff were very friendly and milkshakes are highly recommended.

Food was served quickly. The burger was tasty and the milkshake was immense. There was no atmosphere, it felt just like your standard fast food restaurant but with better food.

Husband loved his burger as always, and the vegetarian Baja was nice, but I loved the chickpea Pattie! As a vege who doesn’t like meat texture the new pattie just wasn’t the same :(. Will try a salad next time.

Best burger I have ever had and the fries and milkshake and brownie/ ice cream dessert were amazing too. I was asking if Belfast would ever get a smash burger. The person who served us was brilliant and attentive to detail. Smash burger have thought of everything. Amazing!

Visited on Tuesday 21st march, first impressions very good, friendly staff, ordered 2 smash burgers, one with bacon, loaded fries with BBQ, cheddar and bacon and 2 freestyle coca Cola's, nicely presented and taste was sublime, totally recommend

Reasonable place, but totally dead- probably owing to it being the middle of the day and a Five Guys being across the road. The sides here are the key- don't miss the haystack onions (yes, they're also great if you add them yourself to your burger)

IF I COULD RATE LOWER THEN A 1 I would. The burger and fries are extremely over oiled, mac ds taste better. Save your money go to five guys or any cheaper fast food, you’ll end up sending £20 on shocking burger and fires

Great staff, nice welcome, quickly seated. Food came quick and was all tasty. Had the Oklahoma burger, sweet potato fries and Mac n cheese bites and can recommend them all. Maybe a few more caramelised onions are needed if i were to be picky as that was a key ingredient and lacked somewhat. Would revisit in the future.

I dont usually eat burgers but decided to give it a try and the food was amazing. I had the mushroom truffle chicken burger and it tasted great. I would definitely go again the next time I'm in Newcastle. The staff were lovely and welcoming

T’was a cold depressing Monday morning. I ordered my burger and took a massive chonk out of it.The juicy patty. The melted cheese. The colourful array of sauces. A large burst of flavour flooded my mouth. It truly was bliss it was enough to change my day for the better. The staff were super nice to me and I wish them the best. Hopefully they are payed more than minimum wage. If I owned the business I’d do my best to keep them around for sure.

Ok burgers are good, fries OK. Prices are high. Milk shakes good. Expensive. Service care about people. No disappointment. Nothing is cheap now the choice is yours.

food is shocking. literally paid £10 for the most rubbery chicken burger i’ve ever had, i can’t believe how expensive it was! the burger batter tasted odd and it didn’t even come with chips they had to be bought separately (£5 for a regular!!!!) i got the SMASH chips and they were okay but so incredibly oily. wouldn’t recommend at all. glasses were also incredibly dirty, which was very off putting as they were only water glasses, so absolutely no idea what all the dirt was from.

One of the best burger restaurants in Newcastle, with several branches throughout the UK, serves the best meals, particularly the chicken with avocado.

Perfect place for a luxury burger. Staff were brilliant especially Amber who served me with such lovely manners. The food was satisfactory and the place was very clean too. Will definitely be coming back when the timing is right.

We have been here quite a few times over the last year and my main point it it’s always the same. Always good quality. Love that the vegetarian isn’t a dry burger in a dry bun (TGIs I’m looking at you), but the simply offer the same types in vege and vegan burgers. Love the baja jalepeno.

Really liked this burger joint - better burgers and fries than 5Guys. Milkshake was lovely, not too many options to negotiate. Get the house fries...
