Smashburger in Newcastle upon Tyne

Food was average, took longer than would expect to get the food. Not sure I’d rush back, and there is plenty of options in the immediate vicinity too.

Good burger with fresh ingredients and very good fries with Italian herb seasoning. But the problem is the waiting time, more than 30 minutes for two veggie burgers and fries; they were good but didn't deserve such a wait. And the prices are quite high for good budgets but ultimately quite simple.

Great food, helpful staff, loved the experience. Would prefer cutlery; delicious but messy burgers. Definitely come again!

Foods are great and friendly staff.

WHAT A SCAM!!! They promised free burgers until 5pm, but 'ran out' at 4pm. If they can't commit to their promise they shouldn't have said that the free burger voucher until 5pm. Absolutely horrible!

So I got a free burger reward at a student Freebie Fair. when i went to redeem it, it would only let me try get a Veggie Burger not the House Smash burger the offer detailed. Miffed i thought it was a tech issue. So I try again later today to find out the account I once had, with the offer doesn’t exist anymore. If you don’t want to give out free food, don’t. stop pretending to be a nice company if you’re not. update: manages to get into the account to find out the offer which i still don’t believe works properly is only available for 3 hours a day for 4 days. having to jump through hoops for a seemingly kind offer really tells you about how much the company actually cares

What a great combo! Burgers with churros! I always love pickles in my burger, along with lettuce and tomato. So yummy!

We had the best experience at smash burger! We arrived quite late but Steven was so nice and got us (a group of 7) our food very fast. The food was so tasty. The burgers were well prepared and the fries were so good and crunchy. I would truly recommend this place because of the good service (Steven is the nicest! He was so interested in us and we got some free fries as well) and the wonderful food as well!!

We came for a quick tea and the burgers were delicious and much nicer than other burger places. The ingredients were fresh and it was cooked to order, we’ll definitely go back. The staff were excellent and helped us through the whole process of ordering and provided a very friendly and helpful experience throughout.

My husband, daughter and myself came and had burgers today- the best burger ever! We were served/looked after by Donya who is a credit to the company. Very friendly, vibrant and bubbly personality who made our visit so enjoyable. Will definitely be back!

Meg and Emma(?) were very respectful and kind. Service was very quick. The food and milkshake were some of the best I've had.

Food was decent but only half the order was delivered. Really disappointing. One of us had Fries without the burger & the other had a burger but no fries. Won’t order from here again. Not worth the risk if they can’t ensure the correct order is being sent out!

Good food. Burgers were flavourful, with a large enough variety for everyone to enjoy, but small enough for everything to be high quality. Had the Truffle Oklahoma and it was very scrummy.

Great service and food. Plenty of choice and ways to customise your food, the refillable drinks machine also had lots of flavours. It's more expensive than the big fast food burger chains but the quality of the food and service justify it. We were served by Steven, who made us feel really welcome, talked us through the options and made it a dining experience rather than grabbing a quick burger.

Ordered two burgers and chips, one burger didn’t arrive, the burger that did arrive wasn’t very warm.

Ordered on Uber eats, the create your own burger. Awful experience no compensation or anything. The burger, paid for salad in, sauce in, bacon in. The bacon was piece was a scrap of bacon, shocking. No salad or sauce at all, practically a cheese burger plain. Then Uber do not refund any money for smash burgers incompetence. Ordered a ranch with tater tots. Ranch never came. I would never order from here again although the women on the phone when I called back was nice and said she would contact Uber to try and get a resolution. Will wait for an update if I get one. Update got £3 back what a joke.

It’s alarming how much I think of this place. Cannot beat a good smash burger and the smash fries (tossed in olive oil and rosemary) are amazing. Overall, the service was quick, the food was good quality and the price was very reasonable.. I’ll definitely be back again to try the rest of the amazing menu (and the shakes!!)

Such an amazing experience. The burgers came to us hot and very tasty, The fries were lovely and crunchy. My family was served by Steven and he did great with making us feel welcome and helped with any questions and any wants we could ask for. Will definitely be coming back again

I had the worst experience ever, i ordered 3 double cheeseburgers meals with free style drinks, there were no regular cola in the machine and the guy came to say there is no beef, we can give you chicken burgers instead, i told him i want to cancel my order and i am no longer want to eat here, he said the order can’t be cancelled because you already paid, i told him that i have the right to cancel since nothing i ordered was available. Then he said we can bring you beef burgers in 10 minutes, i said no i only want to cancel my order if you can make my order why would you offer me a chicken instead, the guy who was wearing black was very rude the way he was speaking to me, and asked me for my email to arrange a refund, he did not give me my money back. Please train your staff to be respectful towards the customers. Thank you

Absolutely amazing Food! Brand stands aswell always on point! Food is always FRESH AND EXTREMELY TASTY! They take care of their customers, they listen and deliver! Will definitely definitely be back and highly recommend!

I went today with my family before the womans england match , the food was lovely and very tasty but the atmosphere was very disturbing. I had my young children with me and a member of staff shouting at other members ( I only assume he was a manager on shift) a bald man with glasses . I didn't catch his name nor would I like to know it , his behaviour in front of customers was appalling and it really let the face of smashburger down . To think they allow management to shout at staff members in such a way is terrible . A young girl probably just left school or in school roughly 16 to 17 cleaning and serving the customers looked like she was about to cry , if this was my daughter or close friends daughter I would not stand for it . He then continued to shout in the back at the staff preparing the food . If it's a bit more busy than usual a good manager would help the staff not stand there shouting . In my experience, it is never appropriate for a manager to shout at an employee in front of others, regardless of the situation. Such behavior can be highly damaging to the employee's self-esteem, morale, and productivity, and can create a toxic work environment that negatively impacts the entire team. It's crucial for managers to maintain a professional demeanor at all times, and to address any issues or concerns with employees in a respectful and constructive manner which this manager failed to do . This not only fosters a positive and productive work culture, but also helps to build trust and rapport between managers and their team members. I suggest you retrain your mangers and show him how to approach the staff on shift . We come to your restaurant a lot and espically on match days but I think this abuse we witnessed has changed my mind about the restaurant and we will be dining else where on Monday for the next match . I hope when I do return the managers on shift act and treat the staff with a bit more respect . I have also emailed them but I'm sure they won't take any notice of my email or review

Food looked great but unfortunately was average at best and cost too much for what you get! £20 per person and it just wasn't worth it! The staff were decent but the atmosphere just felt like a quiet McDonalds! Probably won't go back!

Come with my son who is Coeliac I'm not. Staff very helpful and very understanding can't fault them. Made all customer feel welcoming when they entered. Wish more places for GF like here. Food 100% lovely and mouthwatering 🤤. Definitely will be back again.

Went here for the first time yesterday with my mother, and I will say the food was really good. I really enjoyed it and may have to consider visiting here again in the future. The staff also made us feel welcomed with excellent customer service.

Had a lovely meal at this place with my other half but whilst I do appreciate they specialise in burgers I wish there had been better cutlery for those of us that didn’t want to eat with our hands. The knife and fork I was offered were disposable and were about as sharp as a bath sponge

I didn't think the burgers were good value for money at all. Ok in terms of quality, although the meat was over cooked a little. Can't go higher than a 2 as I've had far better at more reasonable prices.

Really enjoyed the food here, good quality burger but the staff are the best bit as very friendly and accommodating, especially when it was a busy match day. Just what we needed before heading to a gig & very filling too!

Great vegan options, also do beef and chicken so there’s something for everyone. Staff were very accommodating and food was delicious. Fast and excellent service would recommend for a burger and fries!

Got a delivery. Awful tasteless burger. Under seasoned. Stale bun. Terrible chicken strips too. Over cooked and under seasoned.

We have a little one with allergies, the workers were all incredibly helpful. Any parent or person who suffers with allergies will know what a chore it is constantly going Through the spiel of I can’t have this or that. They were very kind and went above and beyond to make sure our son could have something to eat. The food itself was very good. Finding a vegan shake is tough man. These guys do four types and they were great. Definitely recommend it

Used to order from smash burger , one of my fav places to eat from - classic smash burger plus Baja fries. Drove in from Leeds to just to visit smash burger. The place has completely changed. Very rude staff and the menu has no baja fries. Couldn’t have been more disappointed. Burger is still ok still not the same though

If you have a toddler, don't get the children's meal It's basically an adult meal with a burger taken out far too much okay for a six or seven year old plus maybe in future we will just share our food the chicken burger is way too much

I was craving some fried chicken so I tried their chicken sandwich What I got was a what looks to be frozen chicken fillet between two buns and some under seasoned fries. I don't know if their beef burgers are any better, but considering this place is about the same price as five guys, there is no universe where I would choose this over five guys

as profoundly deaf and don’t have any confidence to communicate with strangers, i’ve typed on my phone notes to show the staff asking for a vegan burger and somehow i ended up with a meat burger instead. Like seriously how could he misread this???!!!!! still managed to change the food but still was really disappointed with the services as i felt forced to speak up the staff for their mistake.

I was hoping for something a bit better, I was even happy to pay the price for it. The menu was easy to navigate. The service was good, friendly and helpful. However the food was decidedly average. The burger was dry, the bun was nothing special and the fries were not good - super greasy & not an exaggeration. They appeared to be re-heats! The pricing and appearance of this place suggests that I'm buying a higher class of burger, cooked by people that know what they are doing. This is not the case.

First time visiting, my son and I both had the Bacon Double Cheeseburger, agreed this was delicious, skin on fries were a little disappointing, but ok, Good value for money, would definitely return.

Need to improve the service and taste to justify the price

As always great food. Only thing I would comment is that the displayed menu on the overhead display and the menu on the tables doesn’t have the vegetarian on and the printed menu has neither on, it wasn’t until we went onto the app in determination to find the vegetarian burger did we find it! May put those passing by off if its not on display. We always really enjoy our visits here- please don’t stop offering vegetarian options as not all of us want to be vegan and eat fake cheese:)

My daughters have visited today, staff were rude, shouted at them after leaving them waiting 15 minutes to be seated. Staff should be ashamed if how they've spoken to them told them "does it look like we've got mayo" when they asked for mayo. Just because they're teenagers doesn't give you the right to be rude. Their money is as good as anyone's. Whoever the woman was who served them, get a grip.

Wonderful food, great service, sanitised atmosphere more than made up for by the friendliness and service of the staff and quality of the food. Well done!

Terrible service staff stood around chatting slow to deliver food despite being ready had to repeatedly ask for cutlery condiments, where’s our drinks which we had to prompt them for even after food was served.

Ordered 2 smash burgers with smash fries and 2 drinks. Food was tasty until I cut into the burger half way through and noticed it was raw in the middle. Had to leave the majority of the food as it made me feel ill. My partners was still pink but cooked a lot better than mine. Definitely won’t be back.

Paid £61 for 3 burgers and fries. No options for side dishes or salad and the dips are tiny. NEVER AGAIN. Absolute rip off. Sort it out cos they aren't worth that at all

Extremely busy but didnt have to wait for a table . Nothing too much trouble . Staff friendly and helpful. Food amazing. Ordered bottom le drink and as they were changing machine they gave both myself and partner a 500ml bottle of pop each and told us to still us the machine when fixed. Food was really nice made to order . My new favorite food.

The waiters don’t know the table plan and juked us out at least 4 times by bringing us a burger that wasn’t ours. Took about 7,5 years for the food to come and in that time I could’ve payed off my mortgage and had 3 loving kids that are already in university. Overall very poor service.

Been coming on & off for years. Place started off amazing but has steadily declined over the years. Had the Double Spicy Jalapeno Smash & the Double Oklahoma. Those use fresh jalapeno so it's pretty spicy but so lacking in flavour. Have these folks not heard of salt & pepper? The Double Oklahoma just suffers from poor quality meat. I assume by mixing in onions they're hoping they can use lower quality meat? Finally when did they stop smashing the burgers? Mine were perhaps vaguely slapped but definitely not smashed and hence very little charring on the burger. And again thereby reducing the flavour potential greatly. Chicken Smash got a thumbs up from my daughter so that saves this from a 1-star review. For higher-end burgers Five Guys down the street near Monument now exceeds this place in my humble opinion. Also would recommend Meat Stack down the hill in the Bigg Market area. It pains me to say this but recent experiences at Burger King even exceed Smashburger now. Also the advertised opening times are deceiving as they actually close the restaurant at 8pm. It's takeout only til 10pm. C'mon folks bring back the good old days.

Not only the best burger & fries I've had in the UK but anywhere! I asked for regular french fries well done and every single one was perfectly crisp & tasty. I ordered the Spicy Jalapeno Baja and it was near perfection. On top of it such friendly & lovely service even close to shutting time. This easily beats my former champion Five Guys, Shack Shack in London or Almost Famous over in Manchester. I had Smashburger in Philadelphia and this Newcastle branch was better. The only place that I can remember coming close to this is the Corner Bistro in New York City. BTW I'd suggest the regular french fries over the smashfries which seem overengineered to me. I very much look forward to my return to see if Smashburger UK is truly the new UK hamburger champ! Until then thank you to the Newcastle crew on Tuesday, 3 September for a fabulous and unexpected delight :-) Sadly would add the Oklahoma style burgers not that great; poor quality patties.

Very average burger joint at above average prices.

We ordered the meal deals there were 5 of us, and every meal came at different times, the wife's chips were cold and when we complained they said they would get her some more, I had to ask again about them by which time she ha finished her burger and they brought the chips just we were about to leave🤦‍♂️ when yo are paying nearly double what a McDonald's is you expect a little bit better.

First ever time trying smash burger order on Uber eats and I can say it was not the best burger had a soapy after taste and the fires were dripping in grease can say it’s not worth 44 pound

Ordered cheese and bacon beef burger, fries and loaded blue cheese and ranch fries. Bit pricey for what you get but reasonable portion size and also not bad quality, staff friendly and area clean as well as a canny atmosphere, wouldnt be my first choice of fast food but would come back 😛

Terrible one big rip off. Had better at burger King and for a quater of the price. Staff were miserable took ages for the order. Will never waste another penny at this place. No wonder it was quite with staff and service like that.

I genuinely can't say if it was nice or not, the burger has no taste apart from the jalapeños. Bun not toasted. Chips seemed reheated. No salad and sauce as requested

Good ' kids eat free ' deal on Wednesday (not sure if this is every Wednesday or just random days. Although it was very quiet, we got told off for walking in the wrong entrance and finding our own table. You're actually supposed to wait at the stand, but this isn't terribly obvious and we saw two other parties get the same treatment, so obviously it wasn't just our mistake!

Look at the pictures 📸 Honestly, I don't know what happened to this restaurant, which was distinguished by its burger steaks, because recently it has become a dry burger patty that does not contain any liquids that have been grilled for a longer period, and there is no taste at all. The other dishes were honestly delicious and the staff needs to be more smiling and friendly with customers.

My partner and I went in after debating it for ages due to the higher price tag than other regular burger places. It has been voted best burger and while I agree it is a good burger I'm not sure about the best part. There was nothing specifically wrong with it but I believe based on the high expectations set by the award and price tag it resulted in us being a little bit underwhelmed. Service was friendly and efficient. If I could please suggest more options for non fizzy juice as currently there wasn't much to choose from unless you wanted fizzy pop, hot drinks or milkshakes. There was a squash version but only one flavour. I would appriciate seeing an extra flavour or two of that. The fries are perfect. Might come again to try other menu items but not sure yet.

I stopped by for some dinner at teatime after a busy Saturday in Newcastle. The restaurant was pretty quiet, and we were seated by a friendly lady immediately. We were told that we could order at the counter or use a QR code to order at the table. We chose to order at the counter, and again, we were met with a nice friendly man and served promptly. Our food was served hot not long after we ordered and was presented nicely in wire baskets. I had the Signature Crispy Chicken Smash Burger with a side of sweet potato fries. The burger was delicious. The chicken was tasty and perfectly crispy and cooked perfectly. The burger had lettuce,tomatoes,red onions, and pickles with mayo, but I could have done with more sauce on the bun. The bun was also very tasty. The fries were to die for... Enough said! Overall, the price was just about right, but I wouldn't pay any more than I did for the meal.

Asked for a plain bacon cheeseburger and i still got things i didnt ask for on my burger and when they took it back they still brought it back with the same things on

Burgers were delicious, one of the best burgers I’ve tasted. Staff took care of my mustard allergy and food was served quickly. I would love to see more aspect of the dining experience - for example waiters taking orders, doing check backs, asking if we’re finished etc as it’s all done by a QR code or counter service. But not going to mark them down on that as this is the way the company operates. Otherwise it’s spot on, definitely revisiting.

Had both versions of the loaded tater tots and the mac and cheese bites, fair to say i’m impressed :) love love loved them!!! don’t get me wrong it’s a little bit on the expensive side but still really enjoyed xx

Great location, excellent food and service

Had the Truffle Mushroom Swiss burger which was superb! Fries were great too. Fancied a Banana Milkshake but couldn't see that as an option so went for an Irn-Bru instead!

Unbelievable food this! I have the Oklahoma Bacon Burger, Incredible… The Cheese and Bacon Potato Tots are the best of the best. Absolutely incredible.
