The Haycutter in Tandridge

I do love this pub/restaurant, but when it’s busy people line up in the middle of the pub to get served which can be very frustrating when all you want is drinks, so something should be done about this as I have walked out a few times for waiting so long. Also the food used to be brilliant with unusual mains like game etc but it has gone very boring and the food not as good as it used to be so a bit hit and miss now. Hopefully it will get back to how it was as have noticed that it’s not half as busy as it used to be so everyone must be feeling the same as me ! Come on The Haycutter get your act together !!!

The food served was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful and they were working extremely hard. However, the service was very slow. The restaurant was busy but obviously not enough staff rostered on duty to cope with the volume of patrons. At the end of the meal we ordered 4 coffees. After a long wait only 3 appeared. We had to ask twice for the missing coffee to be served. When the bill was presented we were kindly informed that we wouldn't be charged for the coffees.We were informed verbally how much the bill was and paid. We were then asked if we wanted a breakdown of the bill. Thankfully, we said yes as we then discovered we had been charged for 3 alcoholic drinks we hadn't had! Not sure if its usual practice for the restaurant not to automatically issue a bill before asking for payment. This was our first visit to The Haycutter as both couples were meeting up for a get together. One couple living in Kent and the other in Sussex

Our family (8 of us ) gather at The Haycutter each year for our family Christmas get together. As we come from all points of the compass, the location suits us very well ; this was the fourth year we have all met there and once again we were very well looked after. The pub has a lovely ambiance and we were seated at our favourite table - right by the fire. The 2 family dogs were also with us this year and they enjoyed the warm area as well. Once again we had a lovely lunch - everyone enjoyed their meals and although the pub was really busy (it was Sunday 15th December), the staff were all amazing - friendly, polite, efficient and nothing was too much trouble. Someone was never too far away - checking if we needed anything - and everyone who served us was cheerful and patient. We look forward to our 2025 Christmas meal and wish everyone at The Haycutter well for 2025

Were due to be elsewhere on Christmas Eve but cancelled due to power cut. Managed to nab a last minute reservation here. Was a bit dismayed on arrival at how busy the bar area was. We were seated though and drinks arrived promptly. Food was great and servers excellent. And a nice Christmassy atmosphere. Really enjoyed it.

The best ever Christmas lunch !! The Haycutter excelled itself !! The food was amazing, the staff were wonderful and the atmosphere just as would want it.

Had a lovely experience (as usual). All three of us agreed it was an excellent menu to choose from plus a great selection of drinks (inc Ales). The waitress had an excellent knowledge of the individual dishes (we did ask a few questions) and she was always around if we needed anything at all. Two of us had the coq au vin pie - one small improvement for me would be the option of a small gravy boat but it is only one small thing. BTW the pie was moist enough so was fine in itself. Definitely will be back (again) as we never are disappointed here.

Yet another lovely meal at Haycutter. We had a delicious Christmas lunch - the food was freshly made and nicely presented, the Christmas menu offered a nice variety of dishes. We really enjoyed our meal. Make sure you book your table as it gets really busy!

Overall relatively poor experience . There was a confusion with the drinks order , I was asked again what drink I wanted and my mum was given a pint of coke instead of a regular coke. This then meant she didn’t want a glass of wine after , that she would have otherwise had. Also, I found a short blonde hair in my dessert , which was evidentially not any of ours on the table . When I mentioned it she said I could either have a new one or a reduction in the bill. To me that’s poor customer service as I would expect a reduction in the bill for having a hair in the food whether or not someone went on to have a dessert after finding it. No manager was even consulted about it .

I went with a group for a christmas lunch, our time was changed by 2 hours, the place was packed, the food was awful, we had all prepaid so the chefs knew what meals were ordered, i had the christmas dinner, the Turkey was ok, but the vegetables and potatoes were hard, obviously been cooked for ages , very disappointing , not value for money! Will not be returning!

Fantastic roast dinner, beautiful atmosphere, amazing stuff. We came here with friends sat outside this gorgeous pub, on a beautiful day. The food was incredible plentiful and tasted delicious only constructive criticism would be having a little more root vegetables. My friend and I had a Pimm’s and it was amazing, done right. We couldn’t have a dessert as the food was plenty and having ordered sides, which we later regretted due to volume of food we had on our table and unable to finish. Still we know for next time. We will be back, this is our favourite local pub. Thank you

Having noted my allergies when booking, I was blown away when I was presented with a menu all marked up by the chef noting what I could and couldn't eat even down to components of each dish that I could have without one or two elements. Such attention to detail has been, in my experience, unprecedented, and so gratefully appreciated.

Great welcome as I arrived with my son ; we'd not booked so were pleased to be offered a table . We both had the steak and mushroom pie but I found it disappointing as the meat was on the tough side . In fact I left two thirds of the pie due to being such hard work to chew . The staff were very attentive ; honestly couldn't fault them . Perhaps with hindsight I should have said something at the time; I'm just not very good with that sort of thing .

Booked a table for lunch at the pub seated really quickly the menu was good lots of choice. We shared the beetroot humus and some olives. The Hummus itself was delicious. We grabbed food from the light bite menu the fishcake with poached egg and the broccoli quiche along with fries and onion rings all in all very tasty. Finishing with the small dessert and coffee , again no complaints. The service was quick efficient & our server was lovely. Probably a little bit pricey but actually we enjoyed it so there was no complaints with paying. Definitely go again

We had a wonderful lunch to celebrate a special milestone birthday. We were sat in the banquet room which was perfect and had such a lovely atmosphere. The food was excellent, the service was amazing and the waitress(s) were lovely and looked after so well. The best part was a special message written in chocolate on my uncles plate to wish him a happy birthday. Thank you all so much for making the afternoon just perfect!

Lovely Sunday lunch on a very busy bank holiday weekend. Service was quick and efficient and food very good - two roasts and burger and chips.

Lovely rural location and this pub has a very nice outdoor dining area, but very disappointing food and extremely slow service.

A huge gastro-pub at which demand exceeds supply. From arrival to first food on the table took 90 minutes. Staff, whilst polite, simply cannot deliver an adequate service. Only 4 staff in the kitchen for what must be 100 or more covers. Only 2 bar staff for drinks. This is basic over-trading. Either more staff or fewer tables. The food, when it came, was luke-warm and uninspiring. Chicken burgers are best avoided and be prepared to have to work hard to eat and digest the tired old chips. Such a shame, as this is a nice-looking pub in a useful location not far off the A25 in East Surrey. This was our second visit. It will, alas, be our last.

Lovely weather for a long walk from this Quint pub. Very large area with tables and a play area. Plenty of parking. Ordered chicken liver pate, halloumi chips. Did not disappoint . pork chop ( off the bone) a poached chicken breast with risotto. A good selection of ales. Got to taste 1 or 2 prior to buying. Atmosphere very relaxing and a good outside patio area signed with ‘no smoking or vaping’ Food was very good - chops were cooked just right with no grizzle and was thick in portion ( opposite to some pubs we’ve been to) Sofia was very helpful and all the staff had a smile and nothing was too much trouble. Slight let down was the portion of risotto, otherwise excellent all round with deserts to die for. Would I return? YES with recommendations to others.

Just eaten in the Haycutter, been a few times but really disappointed tonight. Waited an hour for food, had to ask when it was coming. When it did burger was nice but fish and chips was terrible. Batter oily, fish size small and poor. Wife ordered cheese and crackers, five crackers and grapes look like the dregs from the bottom of a punnet. Given the price it does annoy me when dishes should be taken off the menu if sold out rather than charge a premium for poor quality and measly potions Unfortunately we won’t be going back

Excellent meal on Saturday evening. 6 of us and everyone enjoyed themselves. Food wonderful, especially the boar and pork pie with its wonderfully flavourful gravy sauce. Servers friendly and helpful despite being extremely busy.

great good - great staff - however , very poor wine list. Needs to greatly improve! Sadly the wine list is not of the standard of the good food on offer. You offer great food with a poor wine selection

We had a great visit - just what we wanted. It was busy but despite turning up early we were quickly seated. We had a relaxed lunch, staff friendly and helpful. And very good food. We’ll go again.

We had initially booked for 4 for Sunday evening but bumped into some friends (2 adults 2 children) at Godstone farm. We asked them to join us and took the risk turning up with double the original number. Chris the manager was super kind and understanding and found us a table in the bar that we could fit round. The pub was packed but the food and service was efficient and timely. All adults had roasts and they were 10/10. Kids enjoyed a selection of pasta and fish and all went home happy and full. I visited for the second time and was disappointed with my meal. I had the tomato soup it was watering and tasteless , and was barely warm,it wasn’t rich and unctuous which tomato and Basil usually is , the roll was microwaved which anyone knows they go chewy. The salmon fish cake was pleasant but the poached egg was not soft , I ordered some vegetables I actually got a dish of cabbage and a bit of leek , it was tough and cold yuk. To finish I had the apple and pear crumble , very tasteless and had to ask for it to be reheated . I’m afraid it was a bit of a so so meal and not to the standard I had on a previous visit .

It was okay...Nice looking pub and had a really nice pub garden. Food was okay but expensive for what it was. Service was also very slow, ended up going up to get the the receipt and pay in the end as we were waiting so long. Overall it was nice but probably wouldn't rush back

Popped in on a hot Friday night for drinks with friends. Pub very busy inside and out. Constant stream of food leaving the kitchen and a busy bar. The impression was that all the staff seemed to have it under control. Asked for a de-caf coffee which was not available then 20 minutes later a different lady came over to say they'd found the other bag of beans - all done with humour and style. Great addition to the area - we use the venue more than we thought we would. We like that the manager is visible and not upstairs tapping away at a computer

Beautiful looking pub in a lovely setting .our food was excellent , fresh, innovative , delicious !! One of our waitresses was obviously training but doing her best on a very busy , very warm Friday evening . Our desserts were a little late in arriving but worth the wait .Well done Haycutter

Yet another mediocre pub meal. Kept waiting for 90 mins for a sunday roast. Was average at best when it eventually arrived. The shame is , it could be so nice if the staff/management applied themselves to the obvious problems. Keep on top of service. You'll make more money too.

As a local I would say The Haycutter has gone down hill, it is as though Chef has lost interest. The burger and chips after waiting about 50 minutes was exactly that, a burger and a few chips. The chips were mostly stuck together and the burger poured grease when you squeezed it. A candidate for kitchen nightmares, I think so.

Afternoon business lunch nice atmosphere, welcoming staff. Food came up one meal was warm verging on cold. Sent back was advised it had been up to temperature but spent time under the hot lamp. Lots of apologies but no offer made despite each person eating food separately. Not too keen on attempting a revisit

Sadly the fish cake has now no lovely sauce and recipe has changed. What a shame. Had the pannacotta and was really disappointed. Wine was good The service was excellent

We’ve been here once before but booked this as a last minute birthday meal. There were 10 of us so a large group but we were seated quickly and the staff very friendly. The location is lovely, very rural and has nice views if you sit outside. It’s a pub but is now predominately a restaurant. They have a good menu selection and nice choices and everyone had different meals. The sea bass was nice, the steak really tasty and I had sausage and mash which was great. They have a large bar selection and nice wine. It’s a fair drive and very remote but worth the drive for a lovely location and good food. My only two minor gripes are that when it’s busy and we went mid week the car park was packed and difficult to find a space as it was sunny and people enjoying the location and they could really do with a few more staff to help speed up the drinks and food orders. I think someone jokingly said “you could never get drunk here” due to the time to wait at the bar or table. We will be back again soon and really enjoyed it.
