Best Sunday roast I’ve had for ages. You always worry when coming later in day on Sunday, especially when as busy as they clearly were, but it was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend both the lamb roast & mixed roast!

Sunday roast at the haycutter is always something to look forward to, especially at Xmas when the pub is fully decorated very tastefully. The log fires adding to the ambience to make it a lovely festive roast dinner. Very enjoyable.

I was recommended this pub and we were not disappointed- actually exceeded our expectations. Beautiful setting lovely cosy feel and decor. Service was excellent and food impeccable. I had parsnip pear soup followed by beef bourginon. My husband had from the set menu fish cakes sirloin steak and sticky toffee pud.

Lovely restaurant/pub Staff very attentive. 2 fires going. Maybe need a sweep out. Quite a strong smokey smell is the only downside I have The food was lovely, staff attentive and very accommodating. Allergens asked about and taken seriously. Thanks to the chefs for making a cracking set of meals for 6 adults ans 2 little ones.

I had a delightful Sunday lunch. The food was of exceptional quality and abundant. What truly distinguishes this establishment is its remarkable accommodation of gluten-free dietary preferences. One does not feel marginalized or inconvenienced in any way. I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment to individuals adhering to a gluten-free diet.

Eight of us came to eat lunch today for our annual family reunion. The roasts was generous in serving but not the the Tagliatelle. The portion was tiny that I actually enquired whether it was a child portion served to me. I am a very slow eater but I finished the meal before the other family member even had half of their food. The waitress said that it is therir usual portion across all of their restaurants (when she enquired about my query in the kitchen) . I would suggest to the restaurant to try the portion they serve as definitely it was not we enough and I'm a small person or it could be amistake was committed in the kitchen with the portion they prepared. The cost of the meal does not reflect the price sadly. I would be happy to pay gladly but it should at least meet basic expectations. I went home hungry & disappointed. Otherwise, service was good and the place looks great.

Being local I tend to visit fairly often, not so much for food anymore. But atleast twice a month for drinks. Usually a great experience however on my last visit I was made to feel so uncomfortable by the staff. Never have I experienced such snobbery and rudeness. Dismissive attitude, whispering and glances between colleagues. Appalling behaviour from bar staff. We ended up finishing our drink outside and heading to the Red Barn to finish our night.

The Haycutter in Oxted is a benchmark for how to run a pub with a restaurant. Where other remote location pubs blame low customer numbers on the lack of footfall, the Haycutter thrives because of the effort they put into making it an exceptional destination. Every member if staff is friendly and helpful, where nothing seems to be too much trouble. The menu is varied enough and caters well for gluten free diets, and the food is plentiful, great quality and value. Since it's reopening in 2017 (and it's incredible selection of over 50 gins) we have been regular visitors and would highly recommend it.

The Haycutter gets many things right but I often leave feeling stressed out, just like I did last Friday when dining with friends. The beer/wine/food choice was great and our meals were good (with one exception). We were shown to our table and given water but this person did not return with menus and there were no staff to ask. So I went to the bar, asked for menus and was told they would be taken to the table. I got our drinks from bar (as it's always quicker) and got back to find there were no menus, so went back to the bar to get them myself. We ordered starters and mains and when my fish stew arrived, it had 5 muscles and 4 prawns but no seabass or hake as per the menu. The waitress went to the kitchen leaving the plate with me but did not come back with any response until another member of staff presented me with a plate of plain fish/seafood for me to stir into the rest of the dish. It tasted fine but was an unbelievable way to deal with the issue. This is not uncommon and why we tend to come for drinks only. The biggest issue is always the service. There are always lots of staff around the bar but almost no-one paying any attention to the customers and table service is appalling. I don't blame the staff - they are often young, probably inexperienced and don't appear to get any proper training or supervision. I guess the pub is so busy the management don't care.

As a family, we have visited the Haycutter regularly, since we moved to the area 2 years ago. We have always been happy overall with the service and quality of the food, but unfortunately our last 3 visits have made us decide never to return. The staff are friendly, helpful and the overall atmosphere is nice, but the quality of the food and raised prices have forced our hand. For example, £15 for a Pimms is crazy. Also, the food we were served last night was rubbish. One meal, the fish stew, had a worryingly strong acidic taste and mussels that even Bear Grills would think twice about eating. Overall presentation of the meals was on par with a dropped kebab on a Friday night. Overall, a shame to leave this negative review but the Haycutter needs to sort themselves out.

I popped in for a quick pint while on a walk. It's a free house, and had a great selection of real ales (about £5 per pint). We have been here several times and always had a fantastic time and amazing food, sadly this time, it was extremely disappointing and will never be returning. Couldn't wait for our Sunday booking. We brought our 18 month old and 3 year old at 12.00 booking, sadly but unsurprisingly after an hour and a half, they didn't want to sit in their seats any more and no snacks would keep them still any longer! We took them in the family garden and then brought them in while we waited for our deserts. They wandered around happily, with me apologizing for getting in anyones way. All staff were kind and welcoming as you would expect for a family pub on a Sunday. I was then gobsmacked when the manager came past huffing and puffing rudely and dismissively asked me to "keep my children in their seats", he then walked off whilst I was in mid reply telling him sadly that was impossible! My 18 month old would not be kept in his seat again! The same manager with even more of an attitude this time told me, mum, to get my children "in their seats". I question whether he would talk to a man with the same disregard. We have always taken our well behaved children everywhere since small babies, Nobu, the Dorcester, Claridges, every pub in north London and most restaurants, we have always been welcomed and accommodated, I have never once been spoken to with such rudeness and attitude! Definitely not what we were expecting from a big family pub in the country! Another lady who saw how I was spoken to told me how it was completely unjustified it was and how well behaved my children were. Obviously, I was extremely unpset, and in complete shock, we then felt there was no choice but to cancel the deserts and asked for the bill from the same manager. The manager was unapologetic. My husband was very upset to hear how I was spoken to not once, but twice and thought it was unacceptable. Again, he was met with rudeness and was told not to come back, to which he understandably lost his temper! I would be really interested in talking to the ownership about our experience and if they think the way we were treated was acceptable, or like the management they considered children as an inconvenience and if they're not sitting down they're not welcome?

A disappointing lunch - stay away from the burger, McD does better than the Haycutter by a long margin in both taste and presentation - friendly attitude from staff but poor performance; had to ask twice for our drinks and twice for tea (and then again, ask for milk). First time here & a very enjoyable lunch. Seating available outside but ate inside as full outside, which was fine. Beautifully furnished & decorated inside with ample, spacious seating. Nice that the tables are spread out & not on top of one another. Can easily accommodate large parties. Steak sandwich was very nice. Other meal was a vegetarian quiche with homemade potato salad & was also very tasty - quiche quite pricey though for what it was. Glass of rosé was on the warm side & needed to be chilled more. Staff attentive & friendly & service good considering quite busy. Will return!

At these prices if the quality is not very good then the net result is poor. Quantity was average by today's standards (i.e. poor). Salad/lettuce was yellow and limp. It's just not ok. The taste was at best zero 'special'. For these prices, just not ok. With good quality ingredients this would have been ok. Just looked at some if the 5'*' reviews. Seems to be the fish and chips brigade, and most of its got nothing to do with food.

DO NOT GO IF YOU WANT TO BE QUICK. We sat down at 6:45 and left at 9:30. We wanted a quick (ish) meal and we waited 30 mins for our drinks, 45 mins for our starters and a further 50 mins for our mains. By the point the mains arrived we had lost our appetite. The service also wasn’t particularly accommodating, barely apologised. The pub itself is a lovely pub and had a good atmosphere but not worth the food. Also considering it was £190 for the 5 of us. An absolutely shocker of the meal. Going to the Barley Mow every time from now on, will avoid the Haycutter going forward

Warm and cosy. Great food. Had Sunday lunch here before, which was very tasty and not shy on the portions. This time we dined on a Saturday evening. Dishes included,to start, fishcakes, arancini and soup of the day. Mains, homemade burger, homemade pie, catch of the day, all with plenty of sides. Everyone throughly enjoyed what they ate, and again portions more than ample. Good selection of local drinks. Service was very polite and attentive. Will be dining here again and would recommend.
