Just ate in the restaurant, had cheese and bacon burger, chips, and BBQ sauce - very nice 👍🏻

Booked in for a family lunch on Easter Saturday... well - that was a waste of time and effort! Waited for 2 Calamari starters (despite reminders to the waitress) - they eventually arrived not only cold but totally inedible they were like stringy pieces of leather. We were never asked if more drinks were required - had to venture to the bar to order drinks. Fed up we requested the manager - no-one available... the pub had been left with (what appeared to be) inexperienced, unqualified staff who couldn't/wouldn't take responsibility. On a seperate issue the lavatories fell way, way below par - both gents urinals had black bin bags over them and the floors were badly stained. Needless to say after having a small moan to the young waitress we walked... In closing I will say we have eaten here before and it was alright - hence why we booked. On this latest visit shouldn't think we will return....

Lovely country pub, dog friendly, the room was comfy with everything you can possibly need, including dog treats in the corridors. Highly recommend!

Enjoyed the ambiance,cleanliness and the friendliness of the landlord(?) but the quality of the food wasn't great. Although i only had ham, egg and chips; the ham was quite tough and fatty and the eggs were overcooked.

The service was slightly slow and we had to ask for allergy menus when staff were aware of allergens in our party. Food was nice although could be a bit hotter. I think it was a busy time and an extra member of staff would have helped with better service.

We came for a birthday meal after family members raved about the place. Unfortunately we were left disappointed with our visit. We arrived and walked through the bar (stared at as we did by what we presume were regulars) greeted and shown to our table. The whole place was busy. We ordered our drinks and then food. We waited a while for our starters and then a while for our mains. We ordered more drinks after our starters and these arrived as we finished our mains. The food was mediocre. Houmous not homemade, mash was like the stuff you get pre made in a supermarket, the steak was tough, the coleslaw was awful and the truffle and parmesan fries just one big lump. We asked for the bill to find that the large white wine was charged at the most expensive glass on the menu! We paid and left, again stared at as we made out way to the exit. We won't be returning anytime soon and feel like we wasted £170!

We booked a table and paid the £15 deposit on mother's day. On our arrival there was no place to park so we had to wait for someone to leave in order to park in their space. Getting inside with a pushchair it was a mission as well. When we asked about our table we've been told is taken by some other people and we have to wait for them to leave. Just to make it clear this people were only having drinks. After 20 min we manage to get our table just to realise there were no chairs and no highchairs were available. My partner had to grab one chair from a different table. We had to go to the bar to order our food and drinks because nobody came around to take our order. Food was OK but definitely not worth £17. Portion was really small( 2 pieces of potatoes, 2 pieces of carrot and 2 pieces of parsnip) For dessert I ordered waffle ( again the order was placed at the bar) which was cold and chewy. Again not worth £10 Also the table next to us complained about the portion sizes.

I have been going to the Hawk on and off for years. Usually excellent but yesterday popped in for a quick lunch with my father. A simple order took well over an hour. Same for others. Busy but not massively so. They were clearly short staffed. Staff were gracious but not a great experience. Need to warn customers.

It is 7.07pm , we had a 5,30 booking and are still waiting for food. Poor planning by management , under staffed, over priced.

The Hawk has a very good reputation so we thought it would be a lovely setting for an early Mothers' Day lunch, however it was very disappointing. Our table was booked for 12.30 and admittedly we were a bit late arriving. However, we didn't get our food until 5 past 2. While we were waiting we heard several other tables complain about how long they were waiting. Although it is not the fault of the waiting staff and I actually feel quite sorry for what they have to deal with, they weren't particularly helpful at letting us know what was going on. There wasn't much in the way of an apology and we had to ask for the service charge to be taken off the bill. What made it worse was that there was no sign of a manager anywhere. And while I understand young people need jobs, it is a shame when they are left to run a service without proper training. Furthermore, because we had asked twice where our food was the chef obviously plated it in a rush and the food was just thrown on the plates. I understand if they were short staffed in the kitchen, but they could have at least warned us and not taken walk ins when they already had bookings. The irony is that when I booked the table last week the website said that at busy times they put a 2 hour time limit on tables! Unfortunately, I won't be hurrying back.

The most welcoming friendly pub I’ve ever been in! The waitress was outstanding, attentive, went above and beyond to make our stay a really pleasurable one. We stayed before we moved to a new house nearby and I remarked how much I liked the cups, she gave me a couple for a housewarming gift. Would definitely recommend

A fabulous place to stay. Off the beaten track but very easy to find. Very, very quiet which was very appreciated. I was in Room 9, the Eagle room, with a lounge and bedroom and bathroom. The rooms are spacious and very well equipped. The radio was really appreciated and the plethora of chargers. Nice to have a espresso machine and a small fridge. Didn't want for nothing. Loved the breakfast, four days of perfect poached eggs and the best croissants. Everybody was really lovely and I will return, I hope very soon. Thanks

Fantastic Staff , food was superb

The Sunday Roast was ok but very, very expensive. £18.95 for half a roast chicken. That in itself seemed very pricey. What made it even more disappointing was the insignificant amount of vegetables that came with it. I noted that certain vegetables were not included and one had to pay extra for them. The Yorkshire pudding was good and the 3 roast potatoes were ok. I’m sorry but for £18.95 there was an expectation that a decent amount of vegetables would be included with the meal. The staff were good and it’s a decent pub but unfortunately it’s very over priced.

Good selection for a Sunday lunch. The Option to upgrade to have *unlimited* roasties and Yorkies is a clear winner. Service was a little slow. When our roasts arrived we were not offered any condiments, nor did anyone return to ask if everything was ok. We had to wave a staff member down to ask for our extra Yorkies etc which never came out until we flagged another team member down again.

Amazing food and loved the Tapas, lovely tables and service. Went on a Friday and evening and looks like it can get busy so booking recommended. You can park on site for free.

We stayed at The Hawk Inn over New Year as a group of 12 friends. .The staff were ALL fabulous with a relaxed, yet professional, friendly common sense approach to everything. They made us so welcome. It was a really busy evening, they were run off their feet but the excellent food was served to all of us piping hot with a smile. We will be back again. Thank you very much . 🥂

Well what can I say. What an excellent experience. We were met by a lovely young lady called nikki and her team. There service was above and beyond the food was amazing. The atmosphere was incredible. Will be our new stop off on the way down to the west. Highly recommended.

Lovely village pub in a fab location. The tapas we had was brilliant and very reasonably priced, great selection on ales on tap. Our room was clean, tidy and well presented. The service from all staff was exceptional. We will be back again soon!

Popped in recently as a pit stop on a long dog walk. We were looked after by Nikki who was super helpful and attentive. Lovely pub with wonderful staff.

The Hawk Inn had been booked for Christmas lunch by our friends & we decided to have a longer break here so booked a room for three nights. Couldn’t recommend it more highly; it is dog friendly which was great for us with our boxer dog, who had a comfy bed & bowls provided, not to mention sausages for breakfast! Our room was cosy & well supplied with everything we needed; when we stay again I would ask for a slightly larger room, but only because the dog’s bed was so generous. The setting was peaceful and the staff couldn’t have been more friendly & helpful. Breakfast included was delicious and excellent value. Lunch on Christmas Day was perfect. I ordered steak as I don’t really like turkey & it was cooked perfectly. All the other members of the party said their meals were lovely too.

Fabulous Christmas meal had by all. Really friendly staff and very generous portions. One of the best prawn cocktails we’ve ever had. Only comment is that roasties could have been smaller and, therefore, crispier. We all had a great time. Thank you.

Come in on the off chance unexpectedly after the travel lodge was fully booked, found the Hawk and met Bella and Kat who were wonderful, made my night- great service, was tired after a busy day and they looked after me. 100% coming back and will bring clients after this experience.

Had lunch but was disappointed by the management’ of the restaurant. One of our main courses was served without its principal ingredient. This took ten minutes to be rectified. And we were offered no chance to order a dessert nor coffee. We were on time for our 1:30 reservation, so there should have been no reason not to be able to enjoy a two course lunch.

A delightful place to stay and eat. Located opposite a big green field on a gentle slope, nestled in a tiny town next to a quiet road where horseriders trot by and the Autumn sunshine pours down like warm ale. The Hawk Inn is apparently part of a chain of small hotels, but it feels like very much like it has its own independence and character. The feel of an old-world country pub, but with a level of varnish across all the wood panelling that makes it feels fresh and upmarket. Nevertheless, I paid only two thirds the cost of the nearby "discount" hotel options (Holiday Binn and TravelStodge) - which both charged circa £100 for their faceless charmless room and board. Service was an ease, a delight, friendly and laid back but professional. The staff know why you're there and you know why the staff there and there are no silly pretences, only respect and dignity. The rooms are plush and the mattress is welcoming enough to make you feel like a Prince. This little Prince would have preferred a slightly less plumpy and enormous pillow, but that's really by the by and I'm sure the staff would have accommodated my Princely whims if I could have been bothered to go downstairs and ask. But I didn't bother, so that's really on me. Also the shower didn't drain super quick but I'm sure that can be fixed easily with a quick pump (like all things in life 😉). Food was lush. I had both dinner and breakfast and I regret neither. I enjoyed the flavours and each piece of food I ate was good to put in my mouth and swallow. Overall a fine experience. An asset to the village of Amport. Goodbye.

Overnight stay. Easy parking, friendly welcome, well equipped room, nice bathroom and good evening meal. Breakfast was surprisingly poor. Somewhat disorganised buffet section lacking in some listed items. Cooked breakfast was not up to standard of previous evening meal in either quality, preparation or presentation....

I was really surprised by this place. The rooms were excellent. The espresso machine in the room was a particularly nice touch. Will stay here again!

Excellent place to break up a long journey. Staff welcoming and helpful. The rooms we were given was generous and comfortable, we both slept very well. Dinner was ok. My other half didn't fancy anything on the menu so went for a safe bet of scampi and chips which were exactly as they should be. I had rump steak cooked rare and it was perfect. I chose the pepper sauce which arrived cold so had to be sent back to be heated and the chips, truffle ones recommended by our waitress, arrived plain and also had to be re-ordered. These two items seemed to take ages to rectify by which time my steak and mushroom were cold and my husband had eaten his. To add to the disappointment I thought the truffle chips although delightfully crisp, hot and molten inside I found most unpleasant. That I didn't like them is purely subjective and absolutely no reflection on the cooking. We skipped puds. The service was lovely and the whole place has a great ambience. Nowhere near as good as it used to be. Bring back Duncan and Leandro! Just been for Sunday lunch. Its not as good as it was, even charging now for cauli cheese that used to be a standard, and the sticky toffee pudding was served cold with a horrible toffee sauce that was probably out of a bottle rather than the lovely sauce that used to be made on site. The miniscule amount of peas served with the scampi was a joke, maybe a dessert spoonful, and tartare sauce although homemade....way too many capers making it unpleasant. This place has never been the cheapest, and as such I'll probably chose to take my family elsewhere for a Sunday lunch out if this is their new standard.

We hadn't booked and turned up hoping to get a table. Very friendly staff and we were given a nice table in the window. The ambience was nice and we were looked after very well. We ordered a Fish and Chips and a Scrambled Egg with smoked Salmon on Toast. Wow they were delicious, the F&C were so crispy and light and my scrambled egg was soft and scrummy. We then had a Chocolate Brownie with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream - again delicious, and I had a coffee with a small piece of Brownie - a great idea. Sensibly priced too, winner winner

Stayed overnight. Bed was comfortable- soft but supportive. The room had plenty of space. Friendly staff greeting on arrival. Dog friendly pub with country vibe. Breakfast was great eggs royale was pleasant option to standard fare which was also available along with others on the menu. Our Dinner was slightly pricey but I noted there were cheaper options available on the menu and the food quality was excellent. Well worth a stay.

We stayed here overnight between south Devon and home. Room was very well equipped , the media tower would have been a godsend for the business visitor. Beautifully fitted bathroom and we had everything we needed in the room. Really nice atmosphere down in the bar for pre dinner drinks, nice busy buzz. Dinner was very tasty and service was excellent, we had a great evening. Good nights sleep, although mattress a little soft for us, personal preference though. Lovely breakfast, lots of choice and we enjoyed everything. Would certainly stay here again.

My wife and I stayed at The Hawk Inn Amport for three nights whilst visiting family in the Area. Our accommodation was superb. We stayed in The Hawk suite which has a spacious bedroom and a sitting room. The food. Was excellent, and a big thank you from Milo our Golden Retriever to Lisa for his sausages at breakfast every morning. All of the staff were friendly and helpful with Lisa making us feel especially welcome. Food recommendation The Thai Beef salad..... Awesome. Would definitely recommend and will return in the coming months.

I only found this pub around 5 or 6 years ago and I’m not exactly regular, go about 4 times a year. I’ve been going because they always had the balance right. Feel there’s a definite change here. In essence the hospitality industry is about the balance of price, product and service. I believe there’s a bit of work to get that balance back.

Visited the hawk today with friends for a roast, having pre booked a table, waited 15 minutes in the bar area for someone to seat us, despite lots of staff being around and the pub not busy, we felt invisible. Waited an hour for our meals to be served, and it was very good. Disappointed to realise that a 12.5% service charge had been added to our bill. This would certainly influence my return to eat here. I always leave a tip for staff that reflects the service received, I do not, however, expect It to be added to my bill. The receipt says it is a discretionary service charge, but it can only be discretionary if I'm given the choice.

Booked an overnight stay on the way to Devon, when we arrived it was a warm welcome, easy to book in, and just made it in time for dinner. Staff were really friendly and made us feel very welcome. In the hall way were signs encouraging residents to help themselves to water, additional coffee, milk, sugar and Tea. Pet friendly, amazing with doggy beds, water bowls treats in the hall way, all added to that homely feel. Highly recommended place to stay.

Too expensive to get any more than three stars. The problem is £19.50 + service for the smallest piece of trout three pieces of broccoli and four tiny soggy roast new potatoes. With a dash of a nice Romana sauce is just not good value....
