We went to the Cromwell in June for our daughters wedding reception. We had an amazing day, Emma who was the event coordinator was absolutely brilliant both in the lead up to the wedding and on the day. The marquee looked beautiful and we couldn't fault any of the food or drinks. Many of us stayed and found the rooms to be spacious and comfortable and the breakfast the following morning was excellent. Its a beautiful setting for a wedding, especially the seating outside which was a great touch for a summer wedding and the outside bar was lovely.

A room was rented for an afternoon tea event with friends and family. One member had ordered gluten free in advance but their order was forgotten. A rushed tea was made but was very substandard with bread that tasted like it had just been defrosted and only one type of cake but was charged full price. Prosecco was poured in what looked like a rushed way so glasses, once settled, were not a full measure. The waitress team had put the teas and coffees out around the corner out of sight without informing anyone what they had done. After several chases they came back and told us where it was but told us it was probably now all cold. We had to chase for fresh teas and coffees multiple times before they were replaced. The food for the normal afternoon teas was lovely but the service was incredibly poor with people having to chase for the table to be cleared. This doesn’t seem reasonable when a fee was also paid to rent the room. A wedding was also happening at the same time but the booking shouldn’t have been accepted if they didn’t have adequate staffing levels.

We stayed here when visiting Paultons Park. 2 adults and 2 children under 5, we decided to book 2 rooms. Our rooms were next door to eachother which was great, we had our own small corridor as it was the only 2 rooms there. Being a hot day, it was such a relief to have air-conditioning in the rooms! We were concerned when we realised how close the bedroom windows were to main road, but none of us noticed any noise and had a great night sleep . The complimentary tea, coffee & chocolates were lovely and great brands! And the glass bottle of milk was lovely. We had breakfast with our stay and thoroughly enjoyed the eggs benedict. The staff were wonderful and attentive and were so helpful with accommodating the children. Our only real downside was our youngest had a dairy intolerance, she had eggs and a cup of milk, and one of those caused her an upset tummy which lasted all day - we specified oat milk and made them aware, but it must have been missed. Only other xomment would be that the shower pressure could be better. Definitely would book again.

We have eaten well here a couple of times recently. On this visit we were disappointed. The flowers on our table were dead and I had to replace them with those from an unoccupied table. The starters sounded good on paper, and we decided to order two each, starting with trout rillette and Harissa roasted courgette, then both continuing with Gambas al ajillo , cooked in white wine & marinated with chilli, garlic and parsley. The four starters were all served together (sigh). That was pleasantly and speedily corrected. However, the starters were all unseasoned and very bland. Even the prawn dish, which is very spicy and hot eveywhere else, was merely prawns in melted butter. It had tiny specks of red and green (presumably chillis and parsley, but too tiny to give any extra flavour at all). Disappointing. The staff were all very friendly, as always. The South African sauvignon blanc was OK but expensive at £8 for a 175 ml glass. The retail cost of a bottle would not be much above that price.

We went for a lovely Sunday lunch. We were so impressed. I can honestly say hands down it was the best roast dinner we have ever eaten, along with the best brownie we have ever had. There was not one thing either of us could have faulted. The service was absolutely amazing and you were all so incredibly friendly and accommodating. Even the little after eights with the bill was a lovely little touch. Nothing was too much trouble for you guys and you were all so kind! The quality and the way the food was cooked was absolutely incredible and faultless. The decor in the restaurant was lovely also and very clean. We will defo be back soon!!! Stayed for 2 nights visiting friends. We had issues with an evening meal and breakfasts . The general state of the hotel was poor, undergoing renovations and about to close for 2 weeks. We were only advised when invited to check in online, too late to cancel. Food not up to standard expected and several items unavailable. Wet paint at entrance to hotel and an untidy car park littered with leaflets. However biggest complaint is the overpricing of the facilities and the fact that my email to the hotel has still not been acknowledged or replied to after nearly 2 weeks.

The service was most awful. We were a group of 16 and had pre ordered our food. We were seated to the table at 12.45 but no one came to take any drink order until 1.15 (that also when reminded) Starters started arriving at 1.45 and when all were served then one person was told that his order was not available and if he wished to choose another item. The mains did not start arriving until 2.45 until that time two members of the party had left without their food because couldn't wait any longer. After all that when every one was served, but one person still had to wait for another 15 minutes for his food and looked disgusting. The lunch didn't finish until 3.20 and no one had time for dessert or tea/coffee Most disappointing and wouldn't visit again.

We visited for lunch with our neighbours. Three of us chose the roast sea bass with sautee potatoes and rogan josh. We all agreed that every element of the dish was truly delicious. The two generous fillets of fish were perfectly cooked. After eating it, we were left with an excellent taste in the mouth. The menu lists the name of the chef at the bottom. When I asked our excellent waiter, George, whether it was their main chef who had cooked our meal, he informed us that it was not! So, maybe if we revisit on a future occasion, this dish will be ever better! We ended with some top-class americano coffees. The dining area is very attractive and we spent a happy two hours there.

It saddens me to leave a negative review. After an unpleasant experience and for my message to have been ignored strikes unprofessional attitude from the management. myself and my wife booked a night away at your establishment as we have had such a romantic night previously and as it was our wedding anniversary. November 22nd we were squeezed into the bar as the restaurant area was booked for a corporate night and at times they packed the bar out and we felt uncomfortable. our night was further ruined by awful karaoke singing from the corporate area. we spoke to Luke the supervisor who was more than apologetic but i am afraid the damage was already done. we spent nearly £200 including drinks and food and that did not include the accommodation which we had already paid for. i would of expected a reply to my message already or even acknowledgement to my message. the original image we had of being romantic getaway sadly has diminished from our memories sadly. we should of been pre-warned that we would not be able to eat in the restaurant and not even explained to us at the time and we did complain on the night and the following morning. We visited on remembrance Sunday. We were seated and offered drinks. The service was good. We had Temura prawns and squid to start which was excellent but slightly overpriced at £11.75 for three prawns and three slices of squid. The roast beef was excellent. Tender and succulent ,cooked just right. It came with an array of vegetables. Cauliflower cheese, carrots, parsnips, roast potatoes, cabbage, leeks and peas with a huge Yorkshire pudding. We couldn’t manage deserts ! With service and drinks it came to just over £80. I would recommend.

We have had a Sunday roast on two occasions before and been blown away with the standard of food. Unfortunately today's visit was so disappointing. Both meals came out barely warm. The potatoes looked as though they hadn't even touched the oil. The cauliflower cheese was not cheesy. The vegetables very el dente, bordering on uncooked. I asked for my meal to be reheated it arrived a couple of minutes later with no difference in temperature at all! Such a shame we thought we could rely on a good roast even though it's on the more expensive side, we dont mind paying if it's good, but going on todays experience would have preferred a Mcdonalds! Went in with the intent of having a quick light lunch (sandwich) chose a BLT on white and a prawn and scampi tails Marie Rose on brown. One bite into the white artisan bread proved obvious that the bread was not fresh, it was dry and certainly not a ‘todays bread’ delivery, a brief and cursory look at the bottom crust proved this with more than SIX PLUS SPORES OF MOULD on it. Waitron did well to start a recovery process, “accidents happen” promising us fresh sandwiches. We’d been in near an hour before we got our second attempt at a quick lunch. The time was spent then looking deeper at our surroundings, a dirty table, dirty salt cruet pot, finger prints on the cutlery. The sandwiches arrived and still were dry, no butter, nor spread, the little gem lettuce looked like it needed CPR. We really believe the brown sandwich was the original one! We left half of it, it was poor by any standard. The waitron (who was lovely) couldn’t believe there was no butter until we showed her after the mould as well, she offered a full refund. I insisted on paying for the drinks, but left wondering whether this is Environmental Health reportable and is this Fullers Ltd practice of chasing down cost for increased margins at the detriment to customer satisfaction is and even after having a second chance accepting it was ok to fail again. Artisan bread (generally) has no preservatives, manage your food proposition and supplies accordingly. Last bit of advise to prospective customers, CHECK YOUR FOOD CAREFULLY BEFORE CONSUMPTION.

Wonderful place to stay, great staff and amazing quality food. We were not planning on having an evening meal because there were so many bad reviews- so glad we changed our mind. I'd rather pay for quality local ingredients cooked well, as our meals were (evening meal and breakfast), than sub-standard pub grub. We had a fantastic meal and breakfast. The place was very clean with lots hand gel available throughout. A request for masks to be worn in corridors etc was adhered to by the majority of responsible guests. Room was spotless and comfortable and we slept very well. We had one meal in restaurant on Friday evening. A small menu but all was very good and the Argentinian Malbec especially enjoyable. All the staff are great but special thanks to the housekeeping ladies who kept us supplied with teabags, water and fresh towels, not to mention the yummy biscuits! If anything spoilt our time spent here it is the parents who think everyone likes to hear their children screaming in the corridors and shouting in the restaurant. Sad they cannot teach them from an early age how to behave in public.Good breakfasts set us up for our days out and we noticed tables and chairs were thoroughly cleaned when people left which made us feel confident. As good a time as our first stay (we missed the complimentary bottle beer in our room) even though life is greatly changed since then. We will be back again soon!

Starters were a little small for the price, main courses reasonably sized, though beef rather chewy, and side vegetables were only marginally warmer than tepid.....Strange to be given a fork to serve them out though. The day’s vegetarian starter started off as interesting, with coconut, but it was hard to detect the key curry ingredient. The posset was also not as lemony as one would expect, and those choosing the Eton Mess lamented the paucity of meringue pieces. Having a Sunday dish of roast chicken, and then end up having to apologise to everyone that there was no stuffing, also detracts! Staff amiable enough, but service not as attentive as one might like. However, the response to the Covid19 situation was patchy. Waiting at entrance, and QR code scan for and Trace, gel, separate entrance and exit, servers declining to lean over you when serving, plus helping yourself to drinks when brought round by tray - all merit “ticks”. But less positive aspects were:- tables too close together, and their error on our booking meant that one person in our group was too close, and unable to distance from the very near adjacent table; knives and forks were wrapped in napkins, but spoons for dessert were just plonked (from a bare hand) onto the table, and for some reason it was ok to lean over the table and guests to collect dirty dishes. Biggest surprise that none of the staff members had masks or face shields.

We were there yesterday with my misses we started good we ordered our mains until there it was fine the burgers were nice except the fact that 6 items that we tried to order from the menu they didn't have them after that the made a mistake on my ice cream they brought different flavour that I had asked no one ever asked us if the food was allright or anything like that and when I went to pay my bill in the bar the bartender was really rude and abrupt. We had a nice start but after a while everything was a letdown and the brownie that my misses ordered it would have been 3 to 4 days old the desserts was a complete failure.

We ate here on a Sunday evening. There are not many restaurants open in Romsey on a Sunday evening, so we didn't have much choice, but the Cromwell Arms did not disappoint. We had intended to sit in the garden but it was getting cool and the pub is on a busy road so there is a lot of traffic noise, so we sat inside. The selection of food was good and my husband and I both had the blackened salmon, which was excellent, followed by sticky toffee pudding, which we found a bit dry.The pub is on the outskirts of Romsey, but if you're passing, its a good place to eat.

Sent an email to check on re-opening arrangements and got a very quick/helpful response, so booked a table on our anniversary. They have things very well organised and, while low table densities and table service mean it's not quite so busy around the bar as before lock-down, the atmosphere was good and staff had time for a chat while serving customers. We only stayed for drinks but food coming out of the kitchen looked great.A good re-introduction to pub visits and we will return soon for a meal.

‘Grilled’ halloumi was raw with the caesar salad. Came with about 5 lettuce leaves. Has vegetarian symbol next to it but asked to be certain and was told there were anchovies in the sauce. Another friend’s caesar salad was requested without anchovies and it came with 5.Vegan chargrilled salad was 11 pounds and consisted of broccoli on a bed of quinoa.

Super adresse, j'y suis retournée de nombreuses fois. Cadre charmant, la terrasse est grande et très agréable pour boire un verre. Côté cuisine, je n'ai jamais été déçue. Le personnel est sympa, je recommande cet établissement !

Guided by other reviews and outside appearance thought we were in for a fabulous meal and were accommodated perfectly by lovely staff ! When the meals arrived we were very disappointed, my wife’s roast chicken was bloody inside and the scarce veg was tepid, the side dish of cauliflower cheese was dry and had a strong odour of fish which was very off puting so we sent the side back and it came back with the comment “probably due to the kitchen also cooking fish” My roast beef looked good but was tepid and chewy so just gave up , paid and left never to return Sadly.

We went for a family Sunday lunch for 8 adults and a 1 year old, the staff were very helpful and attentive, they gave us a really nice table in an alcove. The food was very nice and well presented, we asked for a few vegetables for our 1 year old grandson, he was given a little bowl with vegetables, Yorkshire pud, and roast potatoes (again very nice). We definitely will be coming back and would reccomend Also our family booked 2 rooms for the Saturday night, the rooms were very clean and decorated lovely with coffee and tea making facilities, we will stay here again. So as you can read, everthing we experienced was brilliant. Thank you to the staff for making the stay and meals very enjoyable

What a great stay, more cost effective than a premier inn and a good pub on your doorstep. Some really nice touches with the room. Espresso Coffee, slippers, great shower products and a free bottle of London Pride on arrival. Shower great and bed comfortable. Would recommend the stay

Really enjoyed our 1 night stay here. Location worked brilliantly, having first visited Sir Harold Hillier Gardens. Short walk into Romney (quite an attractive route & thankfully the roadworks had packed up). Our room was well equipped & fairly spacious. Both evening meal & breakfast had some appealing choices, including good vegetarian options. Staff seemed very positive, helpful & courteous. Plenty of parking. The only thing I can think of that needs improving was the speed at which breakfast was served but as we were in no hurry it didn't matter to us. With Fullers discount codes all was reasonably priced too.

Visited this place for the 2nd time and it was completely different.Ordered the hanger steak as I had read reviews about it. The first one was sent back because it was stone cold. The second one or maybe the first arrived again, it was still the same, luke warm and so chewy I couldn't cut it or swallow it. The bernaise sauce which accompanied it was also cold and acidic. Ordered the cheese board at £9, mediocre cheeses with a bunch of grapes and supermarket biscuits.Really disappointed.I wasn't charged for the steak but didn't really go out to get onion rings and cheese.

Whilst we could not fault the breakfast, the service was sadly lacking. Having booked in December for 10am, we were advised whilst one of our party was receiving her gifts, that breakfast stops at 10 (basically could you hurry up), so we quickly made our choices and the food did not disappoint. However, when we finished eating and whilst we were having a birthday drink, we were told in a very off hand manner that our table was needed at 1 (it was 11.30). After this we were aware of the staff's keenness for us to leave, and we felt very uncomfortable. If we had been offered another table it would have been acceptable but we were still finishing our meal and it ended our breakfast on a slightly sour note. If breakfast finishes at 10 we could not understand why our booking was accepted and no mention was made when it was confirmed the day before. The food saved the day!

Nice quiet table to meet family members we'd not caught up with for ages. Was fine for lunch - I had a prawn sandwich on granary, suited admirably, other orders were croque monsieur also fine, and sausages with cheesy mash. All good. service was pleasant and prompt, all very clean and tidy, ideal for a midweek lunch. Mr S had tempura prawns which he said were fantastic and then the moule frites. Seems like a nice place.Interestingly, they were offering plenty of choices for Veganary as well as alcohol free cocktails for dry January. Thought this was very good even though not applicable to our party.

Went for Sunday lunch with a table of eight. Whilst the food looked good the service from the kitchen was painfully slow. It must have been five minutes between the first our mains arriving and last. Two of us tried the roast chicken and two the roast lamb. Even though my roast lamb was last but one from the kitchen it was unfortunately lukewarm at best. It had clearly been plated up sometime earlier and been allowed to cool down whilst the other food of steaks and beef burgers had finished cooking.

I couldn’t fault the Staff, the ambience or the delicious food. I can personally vouch for the haddock and chips followed by a scoop of salted caramel ice cream plus a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Had a lovely pub lunch here with my family. The atmosphere was great, the food was good and the location was nice and rural. The pub is very dog friendly and even has dog treats at the bar! Service was a little slow, but it was a very busy Saturday lunchtime!
