Moldy Fig in Test Valley

I had a voucher that I've needed to use for a while so I decided to spend it on an afternoon tea for me and my husband. I had the vegan afternoon tea which was presented nicely on a tiered plate. The plate included scones, cheese and cucumber and cheese and tomato sandwiches and some other mini cakes which were all delicious. The only slight improvement I would make to the food would be the addition of some vegan cream for the scones, however, one of my cakes was a creamy variety so I did spread a bit of cake cream onto my scones to go alongside the jam. Staff were generous with the drinks and I had two pots of tea to myself. We visited in January and the room was quite cold and I couldn't feel much heat coming from the radiator so I was glad of the hot tea pot for some warmth. For the reasonable price I think it was up there with one of the better afternoon teas that I've had and would definitely recommend.

17 of us (including 3 children) had our annual family get together over lunch at the Moldy Fig. Good food and excellent, friendly, good humoured service.

Excellent food, staffing and service stretched ... drinks not brought... service slow, we had to amend plans and just fit in Santa. Summed up by a pot of tea needs 2 ingredients- we got the hot water but no tea bag. By the time we mentioned it and it was rectified (ie the bag as neatly thrown on the table) the water was not hot The panto after was good

Very disappointed. The tables are tatty, service and food mediocre with some staff bordering on rude. A limited menu. The music is far too loud so it’s difficult to have a conversation. We’re unlikely to go back.

We have just had a beautiful Roast Lamb lunch. Food plentiful and hot. All the staff friendly and efficient. Very busy but they seemed to be well organised and coping with the near full dining room. My only quibble.....we were charged £3 for two Yorkshire puddings which are included with the beef but was not made clear to us we would be charged extra to have with Roast Lamb. Bit naughty .

I was really looking forward to eating here and I had heard really good things. I would love to give a good review but never got past the front door! Staying at the hotel nearby and advised food provided at the Moldy Fig. Went in, and no one around, and it looked closed. Waited for a few minutes to see if anyone showed. After a bit, some turned up but was not interested in seeing if I needed assistance and hurried into the back office, giving no acknowledgement. Hopefully, this is a one-off and just bad timings. UPDATE. So breakfast was a lot better, hot food ordered to your table and a good choice of other foods. The service was very good. I have raised some scores to reflect this.

Noisy on a Sunday roast average

I visited this restaurant with 3 other family members on a Wednesday evening. It was not too busy and service was friendly and swift. We've all been here before and know that the food is great. We were not disappointed this time either! We will come back...

We were here as part of a package to see Curtis Stigers at The Concorde club. So overnight stay. We used the bar prior to the even in the evening. Really welcoming warm place. Lovely ambience and the influence of jazz was everywhere. Pretty place with a lovely outside space. We also had our breakfast here. Good English breakfast, a little greasy though. Staff very friendly and accommodating, couldn’t really fault the place.

A really wonderful roast lamb dinner. So tender, hardly any fat and roast potatoes were fluffy inside. Great vegetables too. Lovely to be able to sit outside on the Terrace pre and post dinner. It was so nice we repeated it all the following Sunday!

Wait staff a bit grumpy. Older female staff wanted to argue over my reservation. Swore I hadn't made one until it was pointed out to her on the computer.

Had an incredibly disappointing Mother’s Day experience! The restaurant was overbooked, overcrowded, and the staff’s behavior was utterly unpleasant. Despite making a reservation with a special request for a high chair, we were seated next to the exit with no space for a chair, let alone a high chair for our son. We were ignored for 30 minutes, received no service, and when we decided to leave, we were met with disrespectful behavior. Definitely cannot recommend this place!

I'm sorry to say the hash acoustics made our visit quite disappointing. It was fairly busy but conversation was really difficult. I think this could be addressed. Otherwise great.

I've visited the Moldy Fig the past few years around Christmas time. The atmosphere is always pleasant, being attached to a jazz club there's plenty of jazz memorabilia on the walls and pleasant music to go with the meal. Service is always friendly and efficient, and great with our young children. Sadly on my last visit the food was a bit below the usual good standards, my burger was a bit overdone although the chunky chips were very good. Might have been an off day for the kitchen as generally the food here is good, with a nice selection of classic comfort food on offer. Well worth stopping in.

Three of us had an excellent leisurely lunch in relaxing and comfortable surroundings. Though we arrived an hour late the staff, whom we had phoned and warned, couldn't have been more pleasant and accommodating. The food was generous and tasty, especially the salads. For three three course meals and a couple of drinks the total bill was £83, not the cheapest but neither over the top. We'll be going back soon.

Possibly one of the worst meals I've ever had. Ordered the fish finger sandwich which consisted of frozen cheap fish fingers over cooked and dry, the bloomer bread has to be the skinniest bread I'd ever seen in my life and soggy with a couple of burn marks on it. The Caesar salad consisted of dry cooked chicken and burnt bacon bits smothered in a gooey shop bought plastic sauce. Disgusted at the food for the price. Service was excellent and the double espresso was nice - food absolute shambles.

This is one of my favourite restaurants. The food is always lovely, the staff are very friendly and there is always a friendly welcome. The only thing I would like to say is that the prices of the drinks has gone up a lot and that was before the government put up the prices this week.

Shockingly expensive. Wouldn't go back out of choice.

Myself, hubby and our nipper went in today for lunch before going to the afternoon show. It was wonderful! The staff were delightful and simply couldn't do enough for you. The setting was cosy yet you didn't feel like you were sitting on top of one another. We all had plenty of food that was piping hot, full well presented plates with a lovely selection of vegetables. We did squeeze in pudding and again it was beautiful both to look and and eat. We really enjoyed ourselves and will definitely return.

Great meal. The soup was first class. The fish and chips delicious. Efficient friendly service. Everyone is so nice. A homely atmosphere. There was a three piece jazz band on the night we were there. Competitive prices? We have paid a lot more for a lot less!

Had afternoon tea at the moldy fig. Was absolutely lovely, fresh, tasty food and lovely relaxed atmosphere. Very reasonably priced. Staff were so friendly and helpful. The only things I would say that could do with some improvement are the toilets and some of the decor could do with a freshen up. Definitely recommend though!

Food was nice but service was very slow, almost like we got forgotten about as one of the other tables, seated after us, got served first. The childrens menu is limited, now only two mains on offer and no chocolate sauce served with the waffles. The online menu needs updating as it does not reflect what we got given today. Wouldn't return.

Food was nice, unfortunately service was terrible, there was another function going on and we basically got over looked! Online menu doesn't match the new menu in the restaurant so were disappointed with a few options we couldn't then have. Won't be going back.

Sunday lunch, a mixed experience, staff varied from too-cool-for-school to couldn't-be-more-helpful, those of us who had beef or lamb quickly came to regret it, tough as old harry, however the fishcakes were good (apparently), those of us with the inedible meat were given free puddings, and these were good. I feel the restaurant was just having a one-off bad day. Maybe need a better meat supplier, or a lesson in how to cook meat.

Rock hard stale bread, shop bought pate, well done duck, microwave carrot and swede mash, unwashed lettuce, burnt fishcakes, freezer burnt defrosted and furry desserts! Rude, unapologetic server. Not worth £80, really disappointed and did not get the service/goods paid for. Went home hungry.

Had looked forward to lunch at my favourite venue after suffering flu at Christmas. Ordered Christmas type pie complete with vegetables.pie arrived slightly warmed with vegetables on the plate each item had been previously cooked, likely not that day and looking rather tired. Would suggest freshly cooked items ,separate dishes and that the fig gets back to its past standards.

Delicious food and full of flavour. We arrived very late to the venue, so we had the dining area to ourselves. A lovely jazz theme flows throughout the restaurant, perfect for evening dining. Our server was a very pleasant and helpful lady. The fishcakes were full of flavour, the steak was cooked to perfection and the salad was fresh and crunchy. A lovely evening all round.

Unfortunately while a frequent visitor to Coates , Sunday lunch on this occasion was disappointing. I was so looking forward to the meal, as it was a preshow treat. We arrived at 6, our order was taken at 6:15 and our food arrived at 6:50. I was very disappointed in the lamb taste dish, as this tiny peice of lamb was clearly overcooked, with no pinkness, so was difficult to cut and chew. The vegetables were cooked nicely, but with absolutely zero seasoning. And the cottage pie had zero gravy in it, so it was essentially mince with potato on top full. In all my dish was late arriving, underwhelming and overpriced.

Evening meal and then onto watch Marty Wilde and his daughter Kim (yes the 1980s pop icon). As for the meal we decided to go for the chicken madras curry with boiled rice small poppadoms and two small dips of chutney and yoghurt-well our verdict was DELICIOUS yes it was that tasty and hot (heat) the rice was spot-on,followed by creme caramel (heaven) the service was very good (we have eaten here a few times and I have to say that the service has always been very good) As for the show, it was brilliant. Marty Wilde at aged 82 (yes 82)his voice and stamina was amazing in his head he takes himself back to the 1950s with his memories/short stories tying-in each song he and his backing band "The Wildcats" performed. As for "Kimmi" as dad called her she was a nice welcomed "extra". It was lovely to see proud dad and daughter singing together.The venue was literally rocking... What a man!! Great evenings food and entertainment definitely return.

Now...I'm not entirely sure exactly where I ended up but I think this is the venue where I attended an excellent live act at what might also be called the Concorde club. What a cracking evening. Definitely worth checking which acts are performing and booking yourself in.

Just had breakfast at The Fig. Good value at £10 with choice of cereal, fruit, yoghurt, toast and full English breakfast. All nicely displayed at breakfast bar.

Awesome food and drinks with gorgeous views over a winding creek and across a sprawling lawn where live music is frequently playing. The staff are friendly, and if you're happy to be a little patient you end up with excellent dinner and dessert. If you dine indoors there is a comfortable warm atmosphere with low music in the background too. Absolutely loved the ice cream sundae and the steak especially!

Recently had a 2 night stay here before a family funeral. Checked in and asked for a room swap right away as the people next door to us were really loud, shouting etc. The lady on reception was lovely and moved us to a garden...

Was given a voucher for afternoon tea for 2 at the Moldy Fig and booked for today. Staff were really friendly when we arrived and despite me saying on arrival that we were vegetarian this didn't phase them at all and they changed the order without a fuss. I should have told them at time of booking but forgot to do so. The table was all ready inside but as it was a lovely day we asked if we could sit outside on the terrace. Again, it was no problem and a table was set up outside. The service was brilliant and only waited a few minutes for a tasty display of sandwiches, scones with cream and jam and a beautiful selection of little cakes and a large pot of tea. Everything was delicious and well presented. Would highly recommend for an afternoon treat. A big thank you to the staff who made us so welcome.

The worst service ever. The people were like the weather on the 10th June 2019, no wonder the match between South Africa and the West Indies was cancelled due to the weather conditions. The pouched eggs and pouched haddock was served with the plate full of water and that grey thing from the boiling egg. No presentation whatsoever.

Afternoon tea for a friends birthday celebration, good choice of sandwiches and cakes tea and coffee refilled - spend a good 2 hrs here and was a very pleasant experience. Plenty of free parking.
