We were driving through and just wanted something to eat and a drink which we got and they were perfectly fine. Well kept beer and a sandwich which whilst lacking in any imagination or even taste, was reasonably priced and gave us the fuel we needed. The landlord left the bar to make the sandwiches which was fine as there was only one other person in the bar who studiously ignored us. It’s the sort of place that needs a refurbishment and a good tidy up as there appear to be piles of junk everywhere and the landlord is a happy to serve and then get back to something more interesting on his laptop. Still, you’d be grateful this was here if you were a local.

Poped in on way past from work. Nice country pub with old characteristics. There's a pool table and good beer garden with great seating area

I haven't had a roast potato as good as theirs from their roast as this place, that and the cracking is both amazing. go for the roast!

We’ve been going to the pub for about ten years. We live about three miles from the pub but feel it is well worth the journey to sample the excellent beer (and wine) and to enjoy the company of the friendly clientele, landlord and landlady and bar staff. We sometimes eat here early evening and the food has always been excellent. We look forward to many more visits to the pub over the coming years.

Friends came down to stay for a weekend, so four of us thought we'd go to the Eagle for a lunch time drink. The landlord, doing his betting in the bar, made us feel like a definite inconvenience. Sorry for disturbing you! We normally walk past to go to the Poplar Farm, wish we had this time as well!

So many pubs have turned into gastropubs and added £10 to the prices. The Eagle hasn’t so it has a really good range of food at sensible prices. Not the prettiest pub ever but welcoming.

I visit now and again with friends who are local to the area.It seems that locals who make up the bulk of clientele and the atmosphere can be very noisy. The beers are generally very good with ample choice. The bar service is also generally good. The pub decor is decidedly tired and when I have eaten there in the past the menu had been very basic and the quality off food no more than average. It is not a pub that I would recommend to 'outsiders' although locals appear happy with what it provides.

Stayed in the village for a few months. What a gem the Eagle is. Great range of food, great quality and value for money. Why cant all pubs be like this.

The Eagle is a great little village pub, with an exceptional choice of Real Ale and lager. It is a very friendly pub, with very efficient staff.

My hubby and I love the Eagle and are always given a warm welcome by Alan, Kate or any of the bar staff. Food is always great and home made or locally sourced and a very reasonable price. Their Sunday roast is better than my mums... but she knows that as we are always taking family to this great local pub on a Sunday. The choice of beers is ever changing and well kept and so always something new to try. This is a proper country pub, no polished chrome or generic décor, just a good old fashioned local pub which is a pleasure to visit. Dogs are always welcome and I can leave my muddy boots by the door without fear of them being nicked!

It's a drinking den. And don't order a lager - you will be looked at as if you are something on the landlords shoe. As the title says, we CHOOSE to walk past this place to the Poplar Farm, which says it all really!

This should be a great village pub - perfect location...but it is not. Unfriendly staff and poor service, even at the bar. Unless you are a regular you appear to be stared at as if you have just landed from Mars. A pity as the beers they have on offer are fantastic. Very good real ales. Tried the food a while ago and it was not great. I was told that my whitebait would be a while as the 'chef' could not find them in the freezer! Whole place feels run down, from the shabby exterior to the dowdy interior. Such a pity.

Went to the Eagle for a few beers and a meal with the family and the niece and nephew accompanied by the family hound, Had checked before hand that she could come in and she was welcomed with dog biscuits, We had a really good night the food was brilliant and the "beesting" cider was easy to drink - although it gave the niece a "bit of a head" the next day! If you are down this way and need a great night out in a friendly country pub that doesn't cost the earth then you could do a lot worse. Thanks guys when we are down again gracie will want more biscuits!!!

Alan loves his beers and always looks after both the beers and those who drink them. Guest Ales change when they run out so very frequently! Alan and Kate put lots of effort into supporting various sporting events and whenever something like the Grand National is on you can guarantee the pool table will double up as a free cheese board! This is a rare example of a quintessential British pub, every man and his dog on a friday night drops in, meat raffle on a saturday afternoon, midweek pool league, pub quiz, awesome sunday roast with too much gravy - pretty much something for everyone. Keep it British!

A friendly atmosphere. Prices fair, just like homemade cooking.. Not a great choice but still very acceptable. Local people friendly and seem to get on with landlord. Pub type banter.

My husband and I love this little pub! We've always found the staff and locals to be friendly and welcoming. And when it comes to the guest real ales that Alan picks personally, you're spoilt for choice. I've never had a bad pint there. They also serve tasty pub food at reasonable prices. I would recommend Big Al's Messy burger or Kate's beautiful curry any day! It's usually fairly peaceful in the day time, but as the evening approaches the place comes alive with chatter and laughter. And if the sun's out, the beer garden is bustling with families and groups of friends. And on those quieter, colder days, there's nothing better than to curl up in front of the log fire with a pint and a snack after a long walk. This is a good little pub with bags of character; in its bricks and mortar, as well as in the friendly faces you'll meet! - A proper village pub.

We just had our works Christmas party here and had a brilliant time. The food was great, lovely buffet with lots of choice. Quick and efficient service by very friendly staff. Two of our party were vegetarian and catered for fantastically, as for the cheese board...yum! Already looking forward to the next one...

this was our first visit to the pub and as it is local to where we live, we thought about giving it a go. I had read a couple of reviews on their website, which prompted us to visit. The car park was busy and lots of car outside, so always a good sign and busy, with good atmosphere when we walked in. The men in the group enjoyed the choice of beers. Some of the food was disappointing and not entirely edible. The paella was very stodgy and looked more like mashed potato, the half a roast chicken was very pale looking and had clearly not been roasted (so not sure how this was cooked). The fish (was not a fresh piece, but looked like a frozen meal) and chips. The beef curry was good. At no point did anyone come and see if we were enjoying our meals. When we pointed out to the landlord about the paella, he was very rude and said 'it was supposed to look like that', mmmm!!! My impression was that if you were a village local he was very polite to you, if not!!!! We will not be visiting or recommending this pub, which is a sham, as it is good to support the village pub.
