Lovely family meal, reasonable prices and seem to have some new staff in from my last visit who couldn't be more helpful. One called Emma who was super nice.

Came in for food last week and was very pleasantly surprised. New management have clearly started to improve the place. Don’t read all the old negative comments. Great food and service!!

Food was lovely much improved since the last visit. Only trouble this visit was the we found the waitress quite rude and not very friendly. This is the only time however and we visit the pub regularly

Food here is lovely especially the fudge cake, reasonably priced and great atmosphere, but a special mention for Dani who made our visit even better.

Came in for lunch with my mother in law as we used to eat frequently here and we were very disappointed. We asked if food was being served and a disinterested lady said yes, I then asked if we were to sit anywhere as in the passed we were shown to a table. The response again was yes. Pub and restaurant were quiet but I still had to wait a bit to be served. I had the chicken which was Luke warm and louisiana style not in the slightest bit crispy but some how the thighs were cool and burnt. Chips didn't taste fresh. No tartar sauce for fish and chips. When we asked was told they run out. No check back on our food, our plates were cleared and we were asked if there was a pudding to follow which there was. After quite a wait we asked the same girl where the desert was and she carried on cleaning tables before going in to the kitchen and never returned to us. 5 minutes later a guy brought out the wrong desert when I said I asked for the sponge not crumble he went back to the girl on the bar who went through the orders and they continued to talk about us right in front of us. To note the staff had their hair down - not h&s. There were no product labels on sauce bottles and they were putting sauces together the end of the bar to refil the empties. Not a good look. Rude staff. Cold food not enjoyable! Dirty, sticky menus. Loose toilet seat that slid under me. Certainly won't be returning which is a shame as we have been eating there for years! trying to call and when they do pick up .we asked to put 4 more people to the table .then ask them is that all ok then hang up ?.we just called them agen they picked the phone up and nothing just hearing people speak in the back ground ? Whats going on

Have been coming here for a few years and they never disappoint with good food at a great price. As a vegetarian the Quorn Katsu curry is probably my favourite meal when eating out, normally I have to resort to the dreaded Mushroom risotto & it makes such a nice difference to get my teeth into something that is full of flavour and has been cooked really well. Sitting at the back away from the bar in the afternoon was nice, not at all noisy even though the place was full. A highlight is the seniors menus (served M-F until 5pm) which is about £6.50 for two courses and £1 for a third course. Bearing in mind it costs a tenner to have a McDonalds meal that is an absolute steal. Staff are always very friendly. We will be sure to come back.

Came in for a bite to eat last week and was seriously impressed. Georgina and Ella are real assets to the team, they made sure everything was perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will be coming back as soon as possible.

I mean the Christmas decorations on the 2nd September was a bit overwhelming and panic inducing, but I guess they are getting ready. The service was friendly and fast. Not loads of selection for vegetarians but what we had was hot and tasty and great value.

Arrived and was ignored for 5 minutes, the female manager finally noticed us. We had booked a table and took ages to find our reservation. We sat and ordered our food. Drinks arrived and the wine glass had lipstick on it. Glass was handed back and when food arrives still no glass for wine. Had to ask for glass. Food was terrible and only decent member of staff was waitress. Manager needs a personality. Won’t be eating there again. Shame as it used to be a great place 😩

Supporting a gentleman with learning disabilities visiting family - the staff were really friendly and accomodating . Food was tasty and came out quickly.

Went there is evening on our way home from holiday. Waited for ages to get served as there was only one person on. Tried to order three dishes not one of them were there. Place was dirty and disappointed. Went to the pub down the road

Popped in on the way back from Stonehenge for a family meal with dog. Definitely a dog friendly pub and was a nice afternoon to eat out doors. Shame the football was on otherwise would of been lovely sitting in the garden with the family. Also a shame there was no roast meals because the food we had was lovely and all came out pipping hot.

Food acceptable for the price.Service very slow, even after being reminded about the dessert. Very few food customers at the time but too much for the one waiter.

Staff we sweet and the people were welcoming

Didn't get to eat. A Monday afternoon, my Wife and I believed we could have a few drinks before a pub meal. From the start (circa 4pm), the so called "Sports Bar" drinkers we're making their presence known (excessive, loud, swearing). At 8.30pm, having moved to a more segregated area of the Pub (due to the unsociable drinkers as aforementioned) one of the group, interrupted the member of bar staff whilst taking mine and my Wife's food order. Having taken exception to, in my opinion, the loutish behaviour, I was subjected to a group (mob) of the aforementioned drinkers, and defending my Wife and I, I (we) were requested to leave! I add, during mine and my Wife's exit, a group of 4 men proceeded to leave too, expressing their dismay at having a "quiet" Monday evening spoilt by some drunken, regulars?? and the pub staff clearly knew, and seemingly bullied by, the aforementioned drinkers.

Disappointing to say the least waited hour and a half for steak and it wasn't busy at all when finally got my food steak was overcooked but by this point was to hungry to send it back then waited another half hour just for a ice cream cake which had 0 flavour hopefully it's just a case of lack of staff on the day but that doesn't excuse the steak beeing well done instead of medium rare, that said ill try again next time I'm down this way see if it was just a one off

Lovely pub, nice friendly atmosphere, oldie worldie feel to it and the food was great! Will be coming here again for sure.

Actually i only went for a drink, but it looks good inside, they had quizz night. Not too far from the hotel.

Very Good service, attentive, keen to please. Meal was good for money, especially main course deal, less so pudding. Good atmosphere, with good segregation of the football fans and the resteraunt family area. Overall enjoyed visit and beer was not overpriced either! A good Greenking pub, Visited a couple of times since, the meal deal is great value, today's fish was a little undercooked, but still nice. Service is still good and a nice enjoyable meal, though getting very busy 24/11/2023, Had a good meal, I went for the Chip shop platter, this was O.K, but not great, a bit of a mix, 4 small scampi, small but nice fish spoilt by soft batter (again, had soft batter w visits back), battered sausage, chips, peas and curry grave, served with w stale bread slices, It is good value, but cooking and bread left room for improvement. My partner had cheese and onion pie slice, mash and peas with gravy, nice, good but not strong flavour of pie, enjoyed. Value overall was good, quality fair. 01/07/2024 Relatively empty but it was only just past 17:30, we went for one of the meal deals two fish and chips at £12.49 , what a deal, it appeared though that they weren't quite up for cooking for as many people were as were in the pub probably about 10 covers, but it took quite a while for the food to come out. Can't complain though fish and chips were very nicely cooked, plate was moderately size, plenty for the wife, me I am always a little hugrier! The fish was nice, a white fish, nice thick fillet in a good crispy batter, at £12.49 for two meals, how can you complain. Overall a very nice quick supper with a pint.

Went to the pub today was really pleased with the food .use the pub a great deal the staff are really and the landlord has a great sense of humour and is the best we've had in a long time.

Absolutely rotten pub gone to the dogs that bad Lee has taken down the Facebook site. We have been going here for 30 odd years plenty of don't care attitude food has become a hit or miss scenario, the staff are more interested in emptying the dishwasher than serving customers. There is a clear lack of bar staff which is down to the brewery, As soon as Lee took over the guest ales disappeared and you were lucky to get an IPA cider was off some of the lagers were unavailable. We couldn't have a coffee because the staff were too busy. Unless they change their attitude to the customers they will lose a lot of their loyal customers.

Vernon's principal were awesome. Great atmosphere and plenty of room to have a dance. Whoever thought of putting bands in that part of the pub deserves a bonus.

We had a games night with some colleagues at work and Callum was the most helpful, polite person and went above and beyond to make out experience as enjoyable as possible. You are lucky to have him as part of your team!!

Used to be a decent little boozer. Seems to have been overtaken by drugged up locals now. Won’t be coming back anytime soon, very unwelcoming and uncomfortable atmosphere.

We came here for lunch as we wanted to sit in the garden during the nice weather. We found a table outside and ordered our food via the app. We noticed that other tables around us that arrived after us had their food before us. We needed to pop inside to the bar to chase our food after waiting almost an hour! The place was probably running at 30% capacity. Apparently, app orders are not monitored by the bar and they go straight through to the kitchen. When the food finally arrived, it was warm and so was the plate! The food was nice, but the experience was tainted due to the excessive waiting; especially when it really wasn’t that busy.

Fantastic value for really nice food . Clean and tidy with nice staff .. pity we don’t live nearby as a great place for a quality bit of cheap grub . Sandy who served was an asset to the company

After a couple of previous bad experiences with slow service and flat beer, we decided to try again after we heard there was new management taking over and we Had a great night out. The beers on tap was a wide selection. I settled on Madri, quality and clean line with the perfect head. Went down very well!! My wife had a gin and lemonade, which she said was very good and of course bought a double from the very friendly man serving us who had a great sense of humour and told us he “resfuses to sell singles” in a very funny and bantering way. Didn’t catch his name, but think he was one of the new managers (lots of tattoos and wearing a shirt as opposed to the t shirts others were wearing). The team as a whole were very friendly and everyone looked to be something and not standing around chatting! The pub wasn’t overly busy but hopefully with the new management it will pick up a bit more as I would hate to see this pub disappear. We didn’t try the food but I am sure we will return to do so for a spot of lunch very soon!

Very good. Sometimes if you place an order it doesn't go through, but they are very helpful in sorting it.

Food was lovely but the table for two was very small and barley enough room for our plates with the condiments and menus maybe reconsider that table and only use for single person dining, service was ok not great timing on asking how things are when you have just put room in ya mouth 🤦‍♀️

Went twice for lunch and great food! Had chicken burger with 3 sides and curry sauce is amazing there.... Quality food! Great value for money! Always takes 20-25 mins for your food but worth the wait!

Food could have been warmer. Cider could have been cooler - it was served in a warm glass which didn’t help. The gents loos did smell pretty bad and there was no soap in the dispensers. However, a very friendly pub with a good atmosphere. Staff are very attentive. Massive car park too.

Fantastic service from Patrick and Callum. Place has gone downhill in past visits. But if everyone can work like these two then it will become the place to be! I will certainly be back soon to try the food!

I’d never been here before, however was immediately greeted by Patrick who is a very charismatic and fun to be around guy! He was accommodating enough to provide me with a bigish spoon for my meal which was absolutely top notch! Definitely no small standards or short comings when being looked after by Patrick! Lovely layout of the menus too. I’m not sure but I think it was made of elm.

I wrote a truthful great review previously. What has happened ? Different management? This standards at this formerly great little place have fallen off a cliff. Instead of several excellent staff giving great service, one harassed young woman was doing her best to be everywhere at once, and this is a place that gets busy at lunch times. Whoever is in the kitchen is not a patch on whoever used to be there.Actually, I am being polite. They haven't got a clue. I saw two lasagne meals go back as "dry and inedible", and our not very warm fish and chips included a few oily chips, a smear of mushy peas, and a very small fish with strange flabby batter.I hope it sorts itself out, because we have no reason to go back until it does.

Probably unfair as I was a guest of friends. Not the sort of venue I would have chosen and for the price I suppose one can't expect too much.

Are you kidding. No beer, no wine glasses, no staff, the staff that were there swore at me, wrong order. Then when I called the manager over to complain he says he just turned up this morning. I assume it was a pub when he turned up?

Cheap and cheerful. Food was 6/10 but for the price ( 2mains for £11.99) can’t really complain. It was very busy / make sure to book and not just walk in

Worst visit to our favourite pub for years. Hopefully the empties everywhere, sticky table and list of sold out items was just the result of a busy day. The staff were smashing and working hard but needed help. Hopefully we'll have a better visit next time.

Bloody awful. Worst steak I've ever had. My jaw is killing me after an hour of trying to chew a mouthful of steak. The women serving food looked as tho she was going to quit mid shift. And the chef needs some serious traning before being allowed to cook for humans.

We were a party of three, it took a good few minutes to get seated as the tables were all dirty. We all ordered the steak, after waiting what seemed like a lifetime for it we were served (using the term 'served' loosely here, it was literally shoved at us) by a waitress who had the worst attitude i have ever witnessed! The food i wouldn't have served to a dog, the steak was grey and looked like it had been run over by a lorry, it was chewy, rubbery, the chips were stone cold. The tomato had been grilled yet it had clearly been pre cooked and put in the fridge, it was so cold, the peas were dark green and were hard where they had obviously just been left out, after waiting at the bar for almost ten minutes to see someone to complain the 'Chef' emerged from the kitchen. No whites, in an over sized t shirt and bottoms, her clothes looked absolutely filthy as did she. This immediately turned my stomach. As an establishment that serves food and allowing someone that unhygienic to cook for people is not only disgusting but totally irresponsible. We won't be returning. The image of the 'chef' has put my off of eating out for the foreseeable.

It is ridiculous to have one young man working really hard doing everything in the pub by himself.

Unfortunately would never recommend this place, seriously how can you run a pub restaurant and not have the food in to serve,the food we did order mash potatoes tasted like glue chips cold,ruined my birthday evening 😕 even when we ordered the dessert waiting 40 mins they hadn't sent it to the kitchen no organisation what so ever, never again!!

Only came for the quiz. Which was the only good thing. I wanted to order a hot chocolate but they lady said you "had no milk" so I left it to decide my next drink order. When I went back to the bar I could see a jug of milk while the young girl was making to pots of tea! I asked again for another hot choc and the young girl whilst looking at the floor just said "sorry that machine is closed now". I literally just saw you make tea. It isn't my problem your staff are lazy. The customer is always right are they not? Lastly I saw a young lad, maybe the chef? Going around collecting glasses from tables but for some reason walked past our table at least three times and left them there? Do we intimidate you or something? Things need to change there with the staff, if you don't want to work there then dont. Not the customers problem.

Really disappointed, we booked a table for a family of four, my husband went to the bar to order and over an hour later we eventually got our burgers and things were missing. Meanwhile tables who had ordered food after us were served and even tables were being cleaned and staff went outside for a cigarette/break whilst we were waiting. No apologies, no updates of whether our orders were coming. We heard others complaining about the wait and we nearly went to get a refund and take the kids to McDonalds. We wouldn't eat here again, the wait could have been down to problems in the kitchen but communication and customer service were dire! Would not recommend!

Been here a number of times. Drinks seem ok. Only eaten here in once. It was good. Drinks are ok priced. Only issue is it is very busy.

Food and atmosphere is ok ,but its really annoying how they keep both door open during the winter . Not sure why the door have to be open and you can’t even close it fully. Someone should fix it . Its really uncomfortable to sit in cold room we weren’t able to enjoy our meal.

First visit to the chestnut tree for food and it was exceptional the waiter Ben was busy but made sure we didn't wait to long was always on hand if needed great place great value for money but mostly very welcoming 10/10

Tried to have an enjoyable meal but failed. Don't think that just because its on the menu your going to be able to order it. No chips just fries, not enough onion rings for some dishes but enough for others. Order was cooked wrong even though it wasn't busy and when re done looked like it had been thrown across the floor. Dirty tables, dirty menus, no cutlery provided, staff member had the attitude from hell slamming food and drinks down on the table drinking energy drinks behind the bar while trying to order food, staffing issues discussed loudly and openly in front of the public and then closing the kitchen before we even had chance to try and order dessert. Probably one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had the misfortune of having

Greene King pub. Dog friendly, great cheap no frills pub food. 2 burgers for £10 on a Wed is our favourite!

They are not used to foreigners so sometimes it't tricky to order but the food is good and the staff very friendly and polite.

We booked a table here on a Sunday night , was put in the noisy part of the pub with loud people shouting at a match on the TV. There were plenty of quieter tables should have asked to move. Had the Lasagne which was hot however played hunt the meat, mainly pasta sheets and a tiny amount of sauce. Salad was on a hot plate so was a wet mess. Hubbies meal although on a hot plate was luke warm. Staff were very friendly though . Menu mainly consists of stoggy food , burgers, sausages,pies etc.. Maybe chose the wrong night and they wrong food.

What a lovely evening last night great service food was piping hot and the staff went above and beyond. Ricky the mad Irish man was so lovely, friendly and extremely welcoming. He made my lad chuckle a few times my son is autistic and ordering dinner wasn't a problem to ask for items not to be on the plate etc. Ricky was laughing at the fact my son had the chocolate mania but somehow managed to finish off my chocolate fudge cake 😋. Booking a table is definitely recommended as it does get busy. However we took pot luck and were lucky enough to get seated and served rather quickly. The wait for food wasn't long at all and we were checked on by staff regularly. Good value for money and we will be back soon.

Came from Wiltshire and Hampshire! booked in on the day 21st October! W were greeted warmly by the staff! shown to our table plus high chair! 7 adults and one child! food and drinks were ordered as well as food! The staff were great and we were looked after superbly! When the food came out it was hot, well laid out on the plate! and superbly cooked and tasty! Would travel up again just to get the great service and food!

Pleasant helpful staff Good food served hot and good flavour Had Rump steak which came with chips and peas. Peppercorn sauce, onion rings with Mac’n’ cheese side and grilled halloumi side Delicious food cooked well. Would highly recommend
