Was disgusting no one asked if everything was ok had to ask for cutlery won't be retuning sad because it was gd value for money eariler in the year I was told under management but kitchen staff hadn't changed so god knws why so many complaints

I wrote a truthful great review previously. What has happened ? Different management? This standards at this formerly great little place have fallen off a cliff. Instead of several excellent staff giving great service, one harassed young woman was doing her best to be everywhere at once, and this is a place that gets busy at lunch times. Whoever is in the kitchen is not a patch on whoever used to be there.Actually, I am being polite. They haven't got a clue. I saw two lasagne meals go back as "dry and inedible", and our not very warm fish and chips included a few oily chips, a smear of mushy peas, and a very small fish with strange flabby batter.I hope it sorts itself out, because we have no reason to go back until it does.

Cheap and cheerful. Food was 6/10 but for the price ( 2mains for £11.99) can’t really complain. It was very busy / make sure to book and not just walk in

Only came for the quiz. Which was the only good thing. I wanted to order a hot chocolate but they lady said you "had no milk" so I left it to decide my next drink order. When I went back to the bar I could see a jug of milk while the young girl was making to pots of tea! I asked again for another hot choc and the young girl whilst looking at the floor just said "sorry that machine is closed now". I literally just saw you make tea. It isn't my problem your staff are lazy. The customer is always right are they not? Lastly I saw a young lad, maybe the chef? Going around collecting glasses from tables but for some reason walked past our table at least three times and left them there? Do we intimidate you or something? Things need to change there with the staff, if you don't want to work there then dont. Not the customers problem.

Really disappointed, we booked a table for a family of four, my husband went to the bar to order and over an hour later we eventually got our burgers and things were missing. Meanwhile tables who had ordered food after us were served and even tables were being cleaned and staff went outside for a cigarette/break whilst we were waiting. No apologies, no updates of whether our orders were coming. We heard others complaining about the wait and we nearly went to get a refund and take the kids to McDonalds. We wouldn't eat here again, the wait could have been down to problems in the kitchen but communication and customer service were dire! Would not recommend!

Been here a number of times. Drinks seem ok. Only eaten here in once. It was good. Drinks are ok priced. Only issue is it is very busy.

Food great but need to sort quiz on a Thursday… not always general knowledge, maybe new quiz or format

Food and atmosphere is ok ,but its really annoying how they keep both door open during the winter . Not sure why the door have to be open and you can’t even close it fully. Someone should fix it . Its really uncomfortable to sit in cold room we weren’t able to enjoy our meal.

First visit to the chestnut tree for food and it was exceptional the waiter Ben was busy but made sure we didn't wait to long was always on hand if needed great place great value for money but mostly very welcoming 10/10

Tried to have an enjoyable meal but failed. Don't think that just because its on the menu your going to be able to order it. No chips just fries, not enough onion rings for some dishes but enough for others. Order was cooked wrong even though it wasn't busy and when re done looked like it had been thrown across the floor. Dirty tables, dirty menus, no cutlery provided, staff member had the attitude from hell slamming food and drinks down on the table drinking energy drinks behind the bar while trying to order food, staffing issues discussed loudly and openly in front of the public and then closing the kitchen before we even had chance to try and order dessert. Probably one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had the misfortune of having

Tried to order food as a walk in, told sorry can’t order food as a walk in because we haven’t enough staff. If you have booked you can order. Disgraceful from a nation pub chain.

Hadn't been for a while a lot of tables had been reserved for food only... So a quiet drink was had in a corner by all in their way for a night out.

Greene King pub. Dog friendly, great cheap no frills pub food. 2 burgers for £10 on a Wed is our favourite!

Very Good service, attentive, keen to please. Meal was good for money, especially main course deal, less so pudding. Good atmosphere, with good segregation of the football fans and the resteraunt family area. Overall enjoyed visit and beer was not overpriced either! A good Greenking pub, Visited a couple of times since, the meal deal is great value, today's fish was a little undercooked, but still nice. Service is still good and a nice enjoyable meal, though getting very busy 24/11/2023, Had a good meal, I went for the Chip shop platter, this was O.K, but not great, a bit of a mix, 4 small scampi, small but nice fish spoilt by soft batter (again, had soft batter w visits back), battered sausage, chips, peas and curry grave, served with w stale bread slices, It is good value, but cooking and bread left room for improvement. My partner had cheese and onion pie slice, mash and peas with gravy, nice, good but not strong flavour of pie, enjoyed. Value overall was good, quality fair.

They are not used to foreigners so sometimes it't tricky to order but the food is good and the staff very friendly and polite.

We booked a table here on a Sunday night , was put in the noisy part of the pub with loud people shouting at a match on the TV. There were plenty of quieter tables should have asked to move. Had the Lasagne which was hot however played hunt the meat, mainly pasta sheets and a tiny amount of sauce. Salad was on a hot plate so was a wet mess. Hubbies meal although on a hot plate was luke warm. Staff were very friendly though . Menu mainly consists of stoggy food , burgers, sausages,pies etc.. Maybe chose the wrong night and they wrong food.

What a lovely evening last night great service food was piping hot and the staff went above and beyond. Ricky the mad Irish man was so lovely, friendly and extremely welcoming. He made my lad chuckle a few times my son is autistic and ordering dinner wasn't a problem to ask for items not to be on the plate etc. Ricky was laughing at the fact my son had the chocolate mania but somehow managed to finish off my chocolate fudge cake 😋. Booking a table is definitely recommended as it does get busy. However we took pot luck and were lucky enough to get seated and served rather quickly. The wait for food wasn't long at all and we were checked on by staff regularly. Good value for money and we will be back soon.

Came from Wiltshire and Hampshire! booked in on the day 21st October! W were greeted warmly by the staff! shown to our table plus high chair! 7 adults and one child! food and drinks were ordered as well as food! The staff were great and we were looked after superbly! When the food came out it was hot, well laid out on the plate! and superbly cooked and tasty! Would travel up again just to get the great service and food!

The food was absolutely delicious with plenty of choice. The staff were incredibly friendly and super helpful. Although it wasn't expensive, it wasn't as cheap as similar chain pubs.

One of the best pubs in Andover for a family meal and child friendly garden. The kids menu has a good selection, and my son enjoyed his burger. The atmosphere is always friendly and relaxed, and even when there is a wait on food we have been informed in time. Very busy so booking in advance is a good idea.

Quick stop for lunch. The Chestnut always delivers good food and service, and the staff are really accommodating. Very clean.

Food was alright, but a chunk of something (mould/dirt?) fell off the soda gun into my friend's drink (luckily we spotted it before accepting), there were little flies buzzing about, and 60+ dirty glasses on the bar. It took 25 minutes to get drinks ordered by the app, and staff were complaining about the app and telling customers not to use it without giving good reason. Not a great experience - left due to the grubby atmosphere.

A long overdue reunion of 7 old friends for lunch with lots of talking and laughter. We arrived at 1230 and left at 1630 but were never made to feel we had overstayed our welcome. The complicated meal of 7 different choices was served quickly, was hot and every choice was exactly as ordered. The waiting staff were friendly and cleared the table promptly between courses. The food was tasty and enjoyable. A great choice of food on an extensive menu at a very reasonable price.

Amazing food I recommend to anyone reasonably priced great service I give it a 9.5 out of 10 for me .

Used to like going to this pub. It is dog friendly, but the waitress made it quite clear that she wasn't. She stood with her hands on her hips and a scowlig face waiting for our small dog - who wasn't in her way in the first place - to be moved right away and under the table before she would clear out plates. If she doesn't like dogs then why work in a dig friendly pub. She had an attitude when she did speak. Her accent was foreign.

I've just returned back to my hotel after having dinner at this pub with my son and his girlfriend and her mother. What a fabulous place! Staff were helpful, especially with my questions regarding non gluten foods. The meals were FABULOUS! Massive, portions. All meals were delicious, well presented and tasty. My steak was cooked to perfection. I'd highly recommend this place.... value for money too! Amazing prices. All in all a great experience and I'll definitely come back the next time I'm in the area. Well done to all the team there. Happy customers 😊😊😊

A quick beer on a sunny afternoon.

Staff lovely and friendly however, food absolutely dreadful! Fish and chips- fish beige and had to saw through it. Chips dry and not pleasant. Steak pie- 3 pieces of meat in total none of which were edible due to being so chewy. Hands down the worse pub meal I have ever had.

I stopped here for a meal on my way home to south Hampshire. The staff (particularly Mhairi and Megan) were incredibly welcoming, engaging and full of Va Va Voom and laughter. Incredibly easy going and helpful with all things. I passed on my compliments to the manager (a mad Irishman 😂 called Ricky) directly and he is absolutely lovely. This pub has everything going for it and it’s mostly down to the staff and its amazing landlord. Keep up the good work!

Great lunch offer with the Senior Meals. My mom loves comming to the chestnut with her friends all the time. The service is friendly and attentive as well.

Off the cuff we decided that we were going to go out for dinner, we arrived at the chestnut tree at 5.30pm we expect not to be able to get in, we walked through the door and even though they were busy someone who was pouring a drink behind the bar greated us with an hello, we moved towards the restaurant area, where a charming young lady greated us and said she would be with us in 2 ticks, she went out of her way to find us a table and not many items were off the menu which I have to say the menu and the deals are very good, we order our food and drinks together at the bar, nothing was to much trouble with removing items from our dinners a family with a fussy eater!!! Our drinks were brought to our table, we did not wait long for our food and all came out as we had asked and all hot and delicious. The service was excellent, we shall be back!

Decided to have a drink in the garden, nice day and then my children and wife joined me , so we stayed and had food - delicious, service was good, very busy atmosphere but very welcoming. Plenty of food, hot and delicious - staff were very pleasant and attentive. well done CAT and team

Went for a girly catch up with a friend and we both had the all day breakfast sat out in their lovely garden in the sun! Food was sooooo good and both of them for £11.49 you just cannot go wrong! Staff are all so friendly and nothing is to much trouble! Have never had a bad meal there and it's my go to place. Will be back soon!

We stopped in for midweek lunch while travelling through based on Tripadvisor ratings. Waited over an hour for food including starters, which all eventually came out together and was ok but nothing special. Maybe some issue with the kitchen that day?

Went here as a family of 4 adults and 5 children on a Sunday lunchtime. Booking is recommended the pub gets very busy and we saw people be turned away as they didn't have a booking. When we went to order we were told the food would be about a 45 minute wait. We said we didn't mind but we were glad we were told before we ordered. We ordered a myriad of things from a roast dinner to a build your own burger, a pie and 2KG of chicken wings. Food came quicker than anticipated and was hot and lovely! All of the food was great and I have to say it was better than I presumed it would be for the prices. The service was good and the bar staff all lovely, kind and helpful. The ambience of the pub is also lovely actually. Nice atmosphere with the main pub bit separate to the restaurant bit. Nice atmosphere and nicely decorated. We will 100% be back!

We always go here because of the lovely food and pleasant staff. However we had a visit booked for Sunday with another couple who unfortunately had to cancel at the last minute. Tried to amend booking on app but would not work and as already en route carried on to venue. In arrival I explained the situation, the member of staff then said that she would have to change our table. She directed us to a very low table by the door. I asked if we could sit elsewhere, bearing in mind my husband has mobility issues and the seats were too low. The member of staff was very aggressive in her manner and seemed determined to not accommodate us. When we said we would go elsewhere she really didn't care. All of your staff are so lovely, this particular one did not give a good impression. We will return as we normally have excellent service. Just hoping we do not experience this attitude again. Definitely let you down this time.

Went at lunch time for my uncles 88th birthday. Great service from the team, especially Holly, nothing was too much trouble. They even found a candle that I had forgotten, for a birthday cake. The food was fresh, hot and tasty, very large portions, so...

Booked a table for 8 of us for a family meal on a busy Friday lunchtime. Plans change, and the table ended up being 9 of us, plus a miniature human. This was all accommodated without an issue by the staff there, who seemed happy...

I'm not one for taking the time to write reviews but this place really deserves it. We tried to book a table on line but there was no availability, so my wife called and they found us a table for 2 for our little date night, much to our delight. The restaurant is always busy and it is not hard to see why, the food is great, good quality and always cooked well. We have never had a bad meal there (and my wife complains about everywhere!). The staff informed us of an hours wait on food which we was happy to wait for, the food was cooked to perfection and the staff are very friendly. The price and quality of food is unchallenged in Andover and surrounding areas. We highly recommend this place, you truly will not be disappointed. Thank you for fitting us in.

The chestnut is a lovely pub, great food and atmosphere. We choose to spend most Fridays or Saturdays here and recommend to friends! Any occasions we spend at the chestnut wether it be social or work event we always come here for the great customer service and pub grub!
