Our first visit on Friday certainly didn't disappoint. We're moving in over the road next week and can't wait for Halloween when the sweetie jar on the bar gets filled. Bring it on! Planning to work our way through the menu too; outstanding hospitality at the Hawk rarely witnessed at this side of the county. Ben Robinson is lucky to have such a dedicated team.

The Hawk has been renovated and they have done a cracking job. This was my first time visiting for a meal and it certainly won’t be the last. We enjoyed chicken Parmo and ordered 2 Mediterranean feta salads with chicken. When our food was delivered we were presented with 2 chicken Caesar salads, when we pointed out the mistake they were quickly taken away. Minutes later, our salads sheepishly returned, however, feta, red onion and cucumber, had been added to the original Caesar salad. So we ended up with 2 salads combined - Caesar and Mediterranean feta. To be fair, it was tasty, however I’m not sure that other people might be so accommodating especially as there was no apology and we weren’t advised that the 2 salads had been combined. That said, we did enjoy our evening and will return, especially so I can order and see what the Mediterranean feta salad should taste like.

Pleasantly surprised. Took a chance & glad we did. The place was busy, a party had just arrived, yet we got served promptly. The menu was not huge, always a bonus in my mind, yet enough choice to make us ponder. Salt & pepper chicken starter, wild mushroom rissotto & creme brulee were so good, we both had the same 😎 Well priced & great value. Will definitely return, staff were friendly & helpful & food was great.

Popped in for a drink at 10 .20 tonight, found the chairs upside down on the tables and the staff moping up the floors around customers! Totally inexceptable behaviour by staff, with no sign of management. Could not get a drink! Will not be going back, and i am one of their regular customers. Totally unacceptable behaviour by enabled staff who obviously just want to go home early. This is not a restaurant it's a pub which would appear to be run on behalf of the staff rather than the customers.

Very pleasantly surprised by our visit. This is a gorgeous pub and the staff are amazing, especially the lovely blonde lady who served us and was amazing, funny and attentive. Thought that there would be not many vegan choices, but she brought out a whole vegan menu and there were desserts! The food was delicious and piping hot! Karaoke was on later and we had a really fun evening. Definite worth a visit. 10/10!

This little gem is worth a visit , recently refurbished to a high standard, warm cosy and spotlessly clean. We tried the duck off the new menu , the locally sourced sausages ( literally from the butcher across the street) and the tagliatelle carbonara and all 3 dishes were faultless. At first glance the new menu added recently , looked on the pricey side compared to the pub classics but we were wowed by the quality and portion sizes so well worth trading up I would say . The staff were excellent, really attentive but not intrusive and they gave us a very warm welcome. Reasonable wine and drinks menu and a good selection of very lovely desserts . Not our first time here but first time with the new menu and will definitely be back .

Beautiful Sunday lunch a few months ago, thick slice of brisket, lovely veg, great service. Decided to have special birthday celebration with family of 10, pre ordered meal for Sunday 3rd Dec at 5pm. So disappointed, change of chef we were told. Waited 45 minutes for starters, 30 minutes for main and 30 minutes for sweet. One slither of beef, one piece of broccoli, (must have fallen out of fridge, raw), parsnips boiled,(soggy on outside slightly raw in middle), cabbage like shoe leather, dreadful. Pre ordered four beef dinners, was offered refund on one meal and offered chicken replacement as ran out of beef. Very disappointed, had to ask staff to clear dishes away and cooked egg and chips on returning home. Sorry The Hawk, won't be returning unless the former chef returns.

I really want to love this place. The refurb is fab and the food is usually good but the service is unbelievably slow. We waited half an hour for a prawn cocktail, which turned out to be 5 prawns and a minuscule amount of dressing. The Christmas dinner was good apart from the turkey was as tough as old boots. I don’t think we’ll eat here again.

Oh dear. We have been four times since it reopened after the long awaited refurbishment, which is lovely. The staff are lovely. We were excited to have a decent little 'local' serving pub grub. The food, and consequently the price point leaves much to be desired. Some items were not available, and long waits were understandable at the beginning but have things improved? A distinct lack of veg with a dinner. Half a slice of toasted thin white bread with the pate and no butter. Delicious risotto but far too small of a portion, you have to add chicken to make it a normal portion. We have held back from reviewing in the hope that things would settle and improve but four visits and no improvement. We can’t afford to throw money away on a bad food experience. We hope to hear that things can improve to the standard of other nearby Robinson Pubs.

Went to this restaurant with 4 friends. 1 person ate off the main menu and 4 of us had the lunch menu. The main courses were just OK but I couldn’t recommend any of the food we had (fish and chips, ham and egg, chicken pie). 3 of us had a dessert, it was supposed to be Elton Mess but bore no resemblance to a proper Elton Mess. We were presented with a plate smeared with raspberry sauce, a scoop of extra thick double cream was placed on top of it, then 2 tiny pieces of strawberry (about one eighth of a strawberry); the whole thing then had a scattering of meringue crumb over the top. We were all just aghast at what we had been presented with. No member of staff was nearby to complain. After this experience none of us will be visiting The Hawk again.

My first time back here since the refurbishment and subsequent opening in August. What a beautiful job they have done, the pub is classy and comfortable, old features retained, excellent job. The team are lovely, welcoming, articulate and just a pleasure to interact with. The food is sensational, the steak pie was the best we have ever tried, as were the sausages. Would have liked to have tried dessert but we had to get our Beagle home. Lovely to see other doggies in there, all getting along peacefully. Will certainly make an effort to visit more frequently, well done guys.

Beef was thickly cut and extra gravy was brought in a boat without asking for. Buttered vedges were brought in a separate dish and they had French mustard! Roasters were local taters and very tasty. Just popped in- Decided to have tea here- the steaks looked amazing, and I wasn’t disappointed, rump steak cooked to perfection, and a service, that couldn’t be faulted!!! Well done to all the team- definitely will be back for more.

We went twice this year with friends, each time there were two big dogs wandering around the entrance, a bit off putting to say the least. The food was good, it looked nice and fresh. My only complaint would be about the burger and chips, served on a piece of slate, so it was difficult to eat properly. The scampi was good.

This is without doubt the best Sunday roast possible, full of flavour with the best Yorkshire puddings this side of Sheffield, the only slight mark is more red wine choice, a quality Malbec would hit the mark although the melot was fine.

Family sunday lunch booked for mid afternoon, missed the lunchtime rush. Plenty of choice on the menu, specials board and Sunday Roasts of pork and beef. Lovely and warm, very old and traditional proper pub. Food came promptly all roasts served with good selection of fresh veg, roasties, mash and huge yorkshire puddings, all very tasty. Also the home made burger and chips were excellent. Great service, this is a good value, home cooked food, couldn't fault it.

I prefer independent pub food rather than the "chain" variety menus and can recommend The Hawk.

Just back from yet another great Sunday lunch at the Hawk. With living in the village we have been a number of times and have yet to be disappointed. Massive Yorkshire pudding and I chose the lamb today, nice thick cut and plenty of it,with roast and boiled potatoes with 3 fresh veg. Anyone thinking of where to go for a Sunday lunch get on the phone and book this place.

The Yellow Broom is best described as a blend of pure elegance with a splash of sophistication. The setting is undeniably beautiful, complemented by a warm welcome from the staff, who are clearly well-trained in delivering exceptional silver service. The menu offers a well-balanced selection of cuisine, ensuring there's something to delight every palate. The presentation of the dishes was nothing short of exquisite, and the flavors were simply delightful. The staff were remarkably attentive without being intrusive, striking the perfect balance between friendliness and professionalism. The atmosphere and layout of the restaurant were both appealing and comfortable, enhancing the overall dining experience. The Yellow Broom is a truly first-class establishment that consistently maintains high standards. I highly recommend a visit—you will not be disappointed.

The lady who runs it was welcoming insightful and charming. She gets all her meat from the local butcher which is first class. She was passionate about food and her recommendations dovetailed beautifully. My sister ate the mushrooms on toast, which she gave me to try. The mushrooms were cooked to perfection and the sauce was a perfect blend of flavour and consistency. They were really good, the lady who sat next to us has been coming for years and also recommended them, it was easy to see why. I myself had the brie and bacon ciabatta with chutney. The chutney was cooked in a slightly curried sauce which was lovely. Although I would have liked a slightly sweeter sauce maybe blueberries to cut through the mild salt in the bacon and brie but it was excellent none the less. Three breakfasts and pot's of tea for £14 per person was incredible value. I finally remembered years ago taking my daughter here for her birthday lunch and she kept asking me to take her to the place with the train running overhead, I couldn't remember at the time but she'll be overjoyed to hear I've found it. Fantastico, grazie.
