JUST TOO DARK INSIDE The Beer tasted great, which we all agreed, but whilst the bar staff were talking to themselves, I had to say excuse me can I have a drink when we first arrived ! The real problem is it is far too dark inside, 3/4 of us go out for a drink usually on Thursday for about 2 hours from 6pm ish and spend about £90-£110 but have all decided we would need to bring our own lanterns along PLUS the tables are not very well cleaned, stick on the underside as well as the top ..... If the staff weren't chatting and had a look around they may have notice.... shame really as the beer is 1st Class. But Hey Ho there you go, plenty of other pubs around.

Good range of beers and a nice-looking pub but no parking (not their fault). Surly service, however. When offering my cash, the response was a barked "Got no change for that," whilst looking at me like I was dirt. Signs on the bar say 'cashless payments preferred', they dont say 'no cash taken'. I paid by card as I was thirsty on a hot day, but I should have walked away. I shan't be returning.

When it first arrived, the Pilgrim Brewery Hatch was a real breath of fresh air, a return to what pubs used to be all about: good beer and basic food in a comfortable setting where you could enjoy conversations or maybe just sit quietly and read a book. In recent years I'd taken to doing that at home (where it's much cheaper) because one local pub after another began to be ruined by Sky Sports screens dominating the atmosphere both acoustically and visually. I can't remember the last time I visited the Garibaldi or the Garland for that very reason. But now the Hatch has gone the same way. A recent lunchtime pint, listening to some good background music while quietly chatting, was ruined when the huge screen came on and conversation became impossible. Such a shame to see a pub which dared to be different go the same way as all the others.

It’s a veggie pizza that has cheese, pine nuts, poach pears, basil & drizzle of honey. Was scrumptious 🤤 and want to go back again. What more can you want from a pub. We were a group of 6 people meeting up at opening time (12 noon) for a birthday drink and lunch on Saturday 23/9. We arrived at 12:00 to find the pub closed and the stools on the tables. There was someone in the back of the pub but he made no effort to open the door even after I knocked on it. Two more customers arrived at 12:10 saw that it was shut and decided to go for a coffee instead. At around 12:15 we left to find another pub. We found out later that the pub was not unexpectedly closed, just late opening. Well that lost you 8 customers, no wonder some pubs are struggling!

This is a response to Jonathan Dalgleish’s unfair review and inaccurate account. I was on the table next to him. The tables in that whole area of the bar had been reserved for a wake but busy members of staff had forgotten to put a sign on that particular table. He decided to sit there, disregarding what was obviously a gathering which included that table. Polite member of staff came and repeatedly apologised and offered to move him and his lady companion to another table or give a full refund. This gentlemen started shouting and swearing in front of children and directly at the member of staff from the outset and was extremely rude and obnoxious. Another gentleman customer tried to help and he also got the short end of this reviewer’s temper. I’ve been to The Hatch many times and have had nothing but extremely positive experience. The staff are amazing and the owners have done a fantastic job of renovating and turning this historic pub around which under previous ownership had lost its way. I’m so glad that people like the rude reviewer will not be visiting this much-loved heart of the our community. Good riddance, I’d say!

When you arrive at a bar wanting to welcome friends you haven't seen in ages, having to stand in silence slowly connecting to WiFi and then downloading and ordering food on an app is a really weird experience and felt so anti social. We wanted to hug and chat and order food from a human. Please bring back menus and service. This 1 tweak would make this a 5 star place. Food delicious, bar staff lovely, quiz excellent 👌

Such a shame. It was nice when I came before with friends a few months ago. It looks scruffy/dirty glasses/sloppy drinks service, and the the staff can't be bothered. Before, we felt welcomed and looked after. Now it feels very unwelcoming with a crowd of "the guys" making it awkward to get to the ladies. This had happened before but the manageress made a point explaining to said "gentlemen", that it's very intimidating for a woman to have to try and push her way through to the only female toilets in the building. When I tried to get through most recently, I was met with glares and stares from, and I'm stating the facts as I experienced them, a group of grumpy middle-aged, entitled men. On our previous visit, we witnessed a female manager ckear our path to the toilets and also very successfully manage a potentially violent argument, where punches were not thrown, despite a male manager deciding to walk off when the argument erupted. She also made sure that our group was OK, after the dust had settled. I will more than likely suggest that we go to Reigate Town next time.

Very bad system of one entity providing the food and one drinks while no manager available. Waited 90 minutes for 2 kids pizzas, 1 pizza and meatballs. Table arriving half an hour after us got food 30 mins earlier than we did. IT system crash blamed for all the orders going in at once with no timestamp. Once the order arrived it was mixed up, kids’ pizzas both had mushrooms (they hate mushrooms), chicken, that was charged extra for, was missing, salad didn’t arrive at all… absolute disaster. Food was good (when it arrived) but not worth all the hassle. Please don’t come here unless you just want a pint from very disinterested staff.

I do not like soft drinks and atm drink coffee as I have severe fatigue and cannot stay out for long periods of time .I wrote to The Brewery which did not say sorry I was disappointed with my visit nor say hoped to see me again .They just gave me a long e.mail about their marketing strategy! Good beer from Pilgrim, great food from MF- what more do I need! The bar manager seems abrupt, the first time I thought it was due to it being a quiet Sunday night but have noticed it on subsequent visits- overheard one couple waiting 90 mins for their food (a technical glitch apparently) and she delivered it without so much as an apology. Could maybe do with a bit of a tidy up on the front as lots of crisp packets and other litter in the hedges, it must be difficult on the main road though. It’s rapidly becoming our ‘local’ pub, it says a lot that we walk past 2 other pubs to get there!!

Poor experience overall. The tables were not cleaned promptly (or at all : sticky!), the ordering process is cumbersome as it is app only and cannot talk to a human, the food took over an hour to arrive (for pretty basic eggs benedicts and bacon on muffin) and allowing for the drinks to go cold. Needless to say that we won't bother again.

Myself and my husband eat out often as it is one of our favourite things to do and this place is by far one of the best. Not only is the food always amazing but so are all of the staff. Karl is an absolute credit, lovely and always accommodating.
