Went here as a halfway point to meet a friend - can only assume the positive reviews are from friends of the owners as we found it very disappointing. Food was bland and service was poor. Waited ages for meals to arrive. No one overtly rude to us, so I guess we didn't meet the manager, but staff were not v bothered when we asked where the food was. . I've had worse, but there's better places in area so won't be returning.

Hands down the best pie I have had in a pub for the last 6+ years- ignore the miserable review before me. Went with the family (5 of us) and every plate was decent. Simple honest to goodness pub grub ( with no attempts at pompous chorizo and truffle infused duck lard gastro-pub silliness). Nicely cooked chips, salom and prawn salad wax decent, burgers perfectly seasoned and lovely fresh scampi. But my god that pie... reinvigorated my belief that you can get a decent sized, well cooked crusty steak and sle pie in a pub ( not a soggy mess in gravy or de onstructed ingredient skimper). Well filled too, solid chunks of slow cooked beef with little or no filler. Only criticism we had is that they could have had better beers on tap... That being said, still gets full marks from me

A good sized pub with various seating areas. Friendly service and appears to be popular with the locals as a few folk knew each other (which is good to see). I was not very impressed with the choice of real ale, so I just had one drink. Menu looked good and sensibly priced, though I didn't eat after all. The disabled toilet is up a couple of steps, which I thought a bit strange.

I will start with the positives. The staff were very attentive and the pub was very clean. There were infortunatly a few negatives. I booked Sunday lunch here as it was suggested on the open table app as a family pub; unfortunatly we as a family with 4 children were sat next to two tables of rather drunk and incredibly foul mouthed young men. Although the portion sizes where satisfactory the food itself was massively overpriced for the quality. Each dish had something that someone found unpalatable including reheated mash potato, undercooked pastry, slimy mushrooms and dry/burnt chocolate brownies. At a little under £4 for a cola drinks were a little extortionate. I also was not particularly impressed to find that the service charge added was over 10%. I would never leave a restaurant without tipping (between 10% and 25% depending on the quality of the meal and service); however, I do not agree that I should be 'told' how much to tip, especially given the fact that I was not overly impressed with the meal. Needless to say I will not be returning or recommending this venue.

Rather unpleasant experience with the male Manager of this establishment. My Mum and sister had visited the pub with a view to organising a special family birthday party there this coming summer. The lady they spoke to when they visited was pleasant, reasonable and gave encouraging answers to my Mum’s questions. Mum was thus interested and after a general family discussion she wrote back to confirm all the terms that had been spoken about during the meeting along with the party date. She and my sister were happy with their decision and we were all looking forward to planning. We were totally surprised therefore when my Mum received a sudden e-mail from the male manager of the establishment whom she had not met contradicting EVERYTHING that had been discussed when she visited. My sister called to speak to him for clarification but he refused to speak to her on the 'phone, preferring, instead, to hide behind short, blunt and ill-written e-mails. She tried one last time to talk to him to find out what was going on and to negotiate the new terms he had thrown upon us whereupon he e-mailed her back telling us that he had “suddenly” remembered that there was a wedding that day and would we be interested in another date?! Incredible. A total fob off! We are still mystified as to why he would write to us aggressively contradicting everything that we had initially been told. Our only guess is that he wanted to try and get more money out of us because we had been originally told that there was no room hire fee and the deposit for the meal would come off the bill which were two of the things he contradicted in his very first e-mail. A total disappointment to say the least after a very encouraging start. This man obviously does not have the qualities necessary to be a manager of an establishment in the service industry. Dreadful communication, zero courtesy and respect to the customer and very unprofessional. I strongly dissuade anyone from trying to organise an event at this place.

I visited in November and if it wasn't for the excellent staff the visit would have been ruined by guests of what I understand is called a "baby shower" who tried to redecorate the pub and rearrange the tables with the intent of taking over the gaff as though they owned it. Fortunately the manager dealt with the situation with grace, diplomacy and aplomb. And the rest of us diners were able to enjoy great food, wonderful service and a fine selection of beverages. I would imagine that the "shower" saw the Fox as a step up from their usual restaurant of choice, Nandos, but that is not how to behave. Heartened by the experience I have visited several times since. The warm greeting from the manager and his team is most welcoming. The food is excellent. The bonhomie among the regulars is a delight. And by the way, they raise alot for charity. What's not to love about the Fox. Unless, of course, you are a Nandos millennial.

We came on Sunday for my friends baby shower lunch. She had a separate room where two tables had been set up. A few couldn’t attend so it seemed like a good idea to adjust the tables so we were all together (not blocking anyones way) We took this upon ourselves to move them and as we were doing so an extremely rude man (who I assume to be the manager) came out and told us in a very aggressive inappropriate manner that we couldn’t re arrange the tables and that “it’s not yours to rearrange” He said it had been set up like that and needs to stay like that. By this point he was directly talking to my heavily pregnant friend who had arranged it all and the reason why we were all there. He was so incredibly rude. There are ways to speak to people, particularly paying customers and he certainly had no manners what so ever. We didn’t mind not being able to move the tables, despite it not causing any issues or blocking anything. It was the way he spoke to my friend and his whole demeanor. I will most certainly not be returning and would imagine I’m not alone in that! Not sure how he got to a managerial role with that stinking attitude!

We had reserved The Barn on a shared basis, for a special lunch. It was for 20 people and agreed on 2 tables of 10. On the day, 5 were unable to come. The room is large and there was 1 other group there, leaving a good amount of space. Rather than 5 people sitting separately, we thought it was a good idea to move just 1 table onto the end of our table. There was plenty of space for this and not in anybodys way whatsoever. In fact it made more space. Before the table had even been put in place an extremely rude man came in and loudly told us not to do this. He was appallingly rude to the heavily pregnant hostess, and others, and it spoilt her afternoon. We are NOT upset by being told not to move the table. That is not our issue. The issue was with the rude, loud and arrogant way he spoke. There are ways to do things and had he just discreetly approached one of the party we would not have minded at all. If he speaks that way to a heavily pregnant woman, then we dread to think how he speaks to others. We have never received such shocking treatment anywhere and we were all left shocked. On the positive side, the waitresses were very polite and could teach him a thing or two about customer service and manners. It’s a great shame as, as a local we have been here before and received good treatment. I see another review also complains about their treatment by a rude man on the staff.

Came for a baby shower lunch with friends. As there was less of us than originally planned we wanted to move a table onto the end rather than all sitting separate so started doing so when we were greeted by an outrageously rude manager who aggressively demanded we didn’t do that and that it wasn’t our pub etc etc etc. Whilst I understand and fair enough he didn’t want a table moved, is there really any need to be so rude and aggressive towards a group of women, the main one being 8 months pregnant. I was totally disgusted with the way he addressed us and if I’m honest we were all completely shocked. You humiliated my friend in front of everyone and did really upset her. No need for the tone or manor whatsoever. A simple “sorry ladies you can’t move the table” would have been sufficient. A shame because the lovely ladies who served us were great and the food was nice. Will absolutely never be returning and suggest the manager/owner whoever you are takes a lesson in manors and how to treat your customers when spending a lot of money! Funny how when someone asked our waitress to have a word with you separately afterwards you wouldn’t come back out, total coward shame on you!

The sportsman has had the same menu for at least 2 years,it’s beggars belief and it’s the old chefs menu. They really don’t know what there doing in that place. The roast dinner,I wouldn’t serve that to a dog. There only and main concern in that place is the locals who only drink, don’t upset them or your won’t have a business at all. But if you’re into a bit of swinging that’s your place, locals are up for anything including the owner.
