Shame about the Hastings arms don't except credit cards unless you pay a Tenner on the card could be why I see so many people parking up and leaving within minutes

A wonderful Sunday roast. Choice of 3 meats, more veg you could think or eat and as much gravy u can fit on your plate. And not forgetting the sauces for everyone to choose.. the Roast potatoes where the best we have out at a pub in years. Staff were great and nothing was rushed… we also tried the puddings.. Again outstanding… such great value for amazing food..

An excellent Sunday roas in a charcter pub. Warning, you need to book well in advance! Easy to find as the road is straight off the roundabout at the junction of lower rainham road and Ito way (the bypass road from the Twydall roundabout)

Visited to have an evening meal on Wednesday. On inquiring at the bar was informed that there was no food on offer. The bar and what we could see of the dining area appeared run down. Pub sign outside showed that food was available Tuesday to Saturday with a carvery on Sundays. Don't think we will be going back.

A birthday celebration with an overnight stay. Staff very attentive. Room clean and comfortable. It snowed on our visit with the threat of being snowed in but it wouldn't have mattered as there was such a lovely atmosphere. Dinner was delicious with knowledgeable staff to guide us through the menu. Good selection of beers. Breakfast could have been a problem when there was a power cut, however there was enough food on the buffet and the staff somehow made sure we had a hot sausages in a sandwich to send us on our way. Staff were out early to clear the snow and even helped push my car out of the car park.

If you are looking for a home cooked roast with a choice of 4 meats and gorgeous gravy then here you go. No frills but good honest food, and gravy. Sure it is a room in the back of a pub and the decor is old pub not corporate chain but if the food is better, and did I mention the gravy ;)

Booked on Saturday evening for lunch next day by email via website.. Did not get a reply so phoned to confirm, lady said she had been too busy to look at emails. Should book on Friday before by email., but took our phone booking. We arrived at 1'30pm. and restaurant moderately full Wow, we had an excellent meal with great service. After A well presented prawn cocktail Meat cooked to perfection, with tasty gravy and roast potatoes, vegetables well cooked.. Too full for a deserts. Do not be put off by the dated décor of pub, which has the most tatty old carpet I have ever seen. Will certainly be back soon

This pub used to be very smart. No food on sale, only crisps. Beer prices over the top. Toilets not very clean and the carpet on the floor a disgrace. What a shame, this used to be a footballers favourite pub on Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings.

Love this place for a roast, next best to your own. Can't say I enjoy the bar I tend to literally grab a drink and go straight through as it's rather grubby and needs a refit but staff are all welcoming and efficient, and I definitely wouldn't be put off because the food is fantastic

We booked this for a Sunday lunch for my birthday (which was the day after) to save me having to cook. Well I am so glad we did. We had a very attentive barman attend to our drinks and then lovely staff attend to our meal. The starters were quite simple but very nice but the carvery was as good, if not better, than any expensive chain of carveries. There was a choice of four meat, and the beef was the best I have ever had, so beautiful and tender, plenty of roast potatoes and a good choice of veg and sauces. We didn't have a desert this time as we were full up. Would we return?????? Oh yes, at the very next opportunity!!!!! Definitely need to book though as quite a few people have discovered this little gem

The toilets are simply terrible - totally unacceptable. Usually there is no toilet paper and they often have leaks. The bar staff are great which is just as well because otherwise customers would go elsewhere which many have/do in any case. It would not take much to clean the place once in a while and not take customers for granted.

We hired the function room for our club agm. We arrived to set up and arrange the room and within 10 minutes the landlady had appeared. She was in what can only be described as pyjamas and socks. She abruptly asked us 'who moved the Carvery stand?' We all looked around to see what she was upset about and were none the wiser. She repeated herself in an accusatory tone and we all agreed that none of us had touched it or needed to. She said 'someone must have!' again we said we hadn't. This went back and forth until she relented. It was bizarre. Then she asked in the same tone 'who has the van?!" .The owner of the van identified himself and she proceeded to accuse him of driving into the bins! He denied this as it was untrue. Shortly after this she left. We had an uneventful evening aside from this rude welcome. The overall experience of the pub was ok. It needs some updating but was fine for our needs. The 2 bar staff on duty were friendly and very able. We were very grateful for their efficiency.

I hadn't been to this pub in around 10 years. I have to say that it hasn't changed much, which in the main is a good thing. The staff are courteous and the Carvery Sunday lunch has got to be the best you can have for miles. £8.95 and it was so very tasty. No room for a dessert but I am sure they would have been just as good. How could it improve? Probably in the decor / style of the dining area as it appears a little dated but it wouldn't stop me going back. You will need to book if in a group, we were lucky to be squeezed in as a couple.

I think anyone who has been would agree the restaurant is a little dated however the staff have always been so friendly. It's a bit old peoples home if I'm honest, the meat is normally a bit dry but that is all made up for the best roast potatoes, vegatables and gravy you could ever want to go with a Sunday lunch. Seriously, I could go there, forget the meat and just feast on the vegatables smothered with their gravy. This site is about honesty and I hate to say anything negative but if you guys could just get the meat right you'd have the best Sunday lunch in England!

My uncle asked for cheesecake with ice cream and was told it only come with cream or custard!!! How bizarre!! As a former landlady I do understand pub life. The Hastings Arms needs help. You may get good reviews but......Your sign Hastings Arms is falling gradually from the wall. That is a classic sign that you are in trouble. This pub needs an injection of funds. Look for someone with real money. Close and refurb. You need to update or you are going to fail.. I never visited your loos but my husband did. Loos are a window on how you are doing. You are not....doing. He asked me not to see the loos. If the loos are awful what is the kitchen like? That is reality. You have great potential. You have a good housing estate behind you. You have the Riverside Country Park. You can be refurbished and shine.BUT you are still serving an old fashioned clientele. Kids playing your pool table no no no no. If you refurb but keep the table ( I would advise get rid) stop the kids. Pubs are primarily an adults place. Invite in adults who bring kids to be entertained you will lose. If cash is an issue and I do understand go and find a backer. You have huge potential. Use it don't lose it. Good luck.

We have just returned from Easter Sunday carvery at the Hastings Arms! 'what a find', I can't believe we didn't know this pub did Sunday Carvary we only live a couple of miles away. We arrived as a family of 6 with my mum in a wheelchair, the lady I booked with had explained the wheelchair access so I knew what we had to do, when we got into the bar the lady who served us said we might have a short wait so we ordered a drink it was fine and she was very friendly considering she was managing a very busy bar. We had to wait about 20 mins that was fine it was Easter Sunday. The barmaid came to tell us our table was ready and another staff member took my mum and me around the side of the bar to a ramped access to get the chair to the restaraunt side. When we got there the restaraunt manager and his wife were there to greet us and show us the table they had picked that was suitable for a wheelchair, I thought this was really nice as usually we are left to it. We were told a waitress would be over to see if we wanted starters and the manager apologised we were late being seated. However, we didn't realy expect to be prompt on a such a busy Sunday. We had starters which were fine, pretty average. BUT omg the carvery was something else, it was very organised, they have one table at a time go up and you are asked to chose 2 meats out of 3, the portion is very generous, my 16 yr old son can eat loads as can my hubby, its always a worry for both of them who gets the most! They are both meat and potato lovers, they needn't have worried they had pleanty. Personally, I love vegetables just as much and I was really impressed, cabbage, broccoli, carrots and mashed sweed. Vegetables were fresh and cooked to perfection nothing overcooked or too hard. Roast potatoes were amazing. The manager came up after our meal to ask what we thought, he told us all potatoes and veg were prepped by him and not bought in already done and this is where the difference is! Honestly, credit to ALL the staff that work here, they do a great job and the Sunday Carvery is amazing, the only bad thing.... my son wants to go every week!

In a rush for quick breakfast , this place seemed to fit the bill . The tea and coffee were hot but fairly tasteless . The toast was soggy with a something other than butter on it and the poached eggs were hard, the bacon was warmed through not cooked , so overall we were not impressed
