London fayre, served by a, londoner and his family in this Cockney grub house in Rochester.Sat in there, eating pie, mash and liquor that's as good as any you'll be lucky to find in the capital, it's easy to forget you're in Kent.Spotlessly clean, service with a smile, overlooked from the walls by my heroes... What's not to like?

On way from visiting our daughter decided to have lunch. Where better than one of my wife's favourite meals, pie and mash. Been here before was lucky to park out front with the blue badge. Single pie, mash and liqueur for both and a mug of tea for me. Pies were hot with a crispy top and soggy bottom, mash was the normal lumpy goo but with salt and plenty of pepper, along with the chilli vinegar tasted ok.Don't tell anyone but its beginning to grow on me. No doubt we will be back might even get a portion of jellies eels.

Gotta say that was rather nice...outside of London pie and mash always seems a bit and miss, but gotta say this was lovely and I will be going back for more

In Rochester dropping my wife of for cat sitting decided to have some lunch went along the high street and noticed the pie and mash shop. Had a double double this filled me right up. Pie shot mash and liquor hot not complaints from me.

Best Pie and Mash in Kent! Would not go anywhere else, staff always friendly and welcoming too. My son is a pie and mash lover and agrees that it is great! Highly recommend!!

Saw the reviews on here, as in the area thought we pick up few pies to take away,, once home opened the meat pie up and no body to it, very bland taste but the pastry was nice, so added pea's and onions to it to make it a proper pie,

Been here a couple of time and can honestly say these guys do the finest pie and mash I've had in years. With many of the iconic London shops shutting down, it is an absoloute pleaseure to find this place. Took a takeaway to my dad, born and raised in East London and he was over the moon with the how they had managed to capture the traditional taste

Wow, pie mash in Rochester. It tasted fantastic, totally authentic. Brought back memories of yesteryear will definitely be going back as often as I can

This is up there with manzies, Arments and goddard’s. Perfect fresh pies out of the oven, with lovely mash and superb liquor. Lovely people running the shop and all clean and tidy throughout. Good to see it busy on a wet day, definitely worth a trip to Rochester for a visit. The pie shop is about 5 mins from the station on the pedestrianised street. Nice places for a walk afterwards too. Will be back.

as a 63 year old eastender i can say the above comment is well deserved. i have eaten in all the usual iconic pie and mash shops in the east end, kellys, goodings, arments, etc and cathedral ranks way up there with the best. pies done to perfection, as was the mash. the liquor also was done to grand style. service was quick, efficent, and delivered with a genuine smile. shop was clean, fresh and totally lived up to my expectations. the price i found was very reasonable. highly recommended. well done all at the cathedral.

It was my second time here and also first time to eat pie,mash and liquor with sausage. It's an art how they put the mash onto the plate, liquor was good and the pie was good, tasty pastry.Clean and tidy restuarant, ice cold can of drink cream soda. My daughter also committed sacrilege by having gravy. My wife the traditionalist had her pie mash and liquor.

I have been going here since they opened and I am sure it's just getting better, this really is as good as the best London pie houses, the pies and the mash are spot on and the liquor is perfect. I was brought up eating Manzie's pie and mash in Peckham and I think this place is as good or even a bit better which is the highest praise I can give. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

At the end of my visit to England, I met up with dear friends for a day sightseeing in Rochester. An amazing place to visit. Come lunch where do we eat, younger friend said let’s go pie and mash. His mother said awesome something truly English, my response sounds good. Understatement of the year from me!!! The menu is simple but the pie with mash and liquor is delicious, the staff are very friendly and the ambience is nice. A few alternative options but my advice pie and mash or pie and 2 mash if your very hungry.

It was my first time here and also first time to eat pie,mash and liquor.How the lady put the mash scooped onto my plate,liquor was delicious and the 2 pies were very delicious,very tasty pastry.Clean and tidy restuarant,cold can of drink.

Were regular customers here and love coming to have the traditional London pie mash and liqueur it's the best in Kent that I have had so far and staff a very friendly place is always clean

What a result finding a traditional pie and mash shop in Kent... blinding pie, mash and liquor it was all perfect! Everything about the shop was spot on! Going to visit my brother is Rochester is a bit better having this gem just down the high street! I will be visiting every time I am near. 5 stars all day long.

The best pie and mash for many a mile have been a couple of times and will return. Good service nice staff not a bad cup of tea either.

Single pie mash and liquor. Haven’t had it for years. So good. Warmed me up on a cold day. Service was perfect, friendly and quick. I just don’t understand why this place is so quiet though. Great little local business that deserves every success. I will be back !!

I’ve always loved pie n mash so the occasion of visiting Rochester it would be a very good idea to visit their Pie n Mash in the high street.

Having migrated to Kent from London 12 years ago I am so pleased this place has opened up. The pies are authentic, the mash & liquor tasty. And chilli vinegar. All you need!

Over the years tried a number of outlets, including those across north, south London as well as seaside locations and anywhere else I have travelled and can find one and none have impressed me as much as this one. The pies were the best, liquor was great (even supplied extra foc). The big plus for me was the friendliness of staff (they even had teeth - and nice they were), plus the cleanliness of the place, not a sticky table in site. Well done guys - keep it up, almost a year in and the standards are still extremely high.

My wife and I visited for the first time today. The Pie, Mash and Liquor were excellent and thoroughly enjoyed. Single Mash was a good portion compared to other places we have used. Nice, old style decor and very friendly service.

Does what it says on the tin, really good traditional food; came in with my Mum and kids dinner time today, the girl that served as was a little diamond.

Coming from East London I am used to a very high standard when it comes to pie and mash, Cathedral Pie House meet those standards! The food is as good as it gets and the staff are always very polite, it's not the cheapest P&M; around but considering how nice the shop is to sit in (they offer takeaway too for anyone that way want to know) and how good the food is this place is definitely worth a visit. I am chuffed I live just 15 minutes from it, I try to make a weekly appearance!

Came here for the second time today & it wont be my last, taste & quality of the food was top notch, place was clean & staff are friendly & very good value for money, keep up the good work guys!!

Central Rochester is quite Dickersian in it's charm, but it's eateries can be hit and miss so it was a relief to find such a staple of the British diet served up so well.

Tried this pie and mash as a take away on our way home from a day out and was not disappointed. Good valuefor money

Just had dinner with my 92 year old dad and we loved it my dad and me come originally from Bermondsey and have eaten at the best but wow my dad was impressed we will be having this for dinner again the staff were absolutely lovely and the pies were to die for my dads only small criticism was he wanted it a bit burnt love him please give this a go you won’t be disappointed

I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to pie n mash. I've had it regularly for over 40 years, so I know what i'm talking about. I read a negative review on this restaurant and it did make me laugh. Don't expect anything other than Jellied Eels & Pie N Mash. And don't expect anything other than Mince Pies. Yes it is a limited menu. It's traditionaly. I don't normally go to shops out side of East London cos that's what I was brought up with. And when you find a good one, it's hard to change but due to moving to Kent have recently ventured to a couple including this one. The other being Flo's in Crayford. I can honestly say Cathedral is the better but only just. Belly is full after having a 2+2.(2Pies N 2 Mash) Staff was really friendly and chatty. Keep up the good work. I'll definitely be back.

This is traditional pie and mash shop and the food is definitely yummy. With hindsight I’d probably have 2 pies and the mash is quite sturdy. Lovely.

Popped in to the Cathedral pie and mash shop a couple of weeks ago, didn't know what to expect, as most local pie and mash use bought in Goddard's pies, and I am not a fan of these. I was absolutely blown away with the pie and mash. Pie was totally authentic just like Manze's or Cook's. Mash was not too smooth, even a couple of authentic lumps. Best of all was the generous portion of liquer, I usually have to ask for more, this was spot on. With lots of white pepper and chilli vinegar this was the best Pie and Mash I have had for years, as good as any London shop. As a bonus they also do Eels and liquer, and jelled if that's you bag. I had a chat with the owner, nice bloke, and had a long chat about the London Pie shops. The decor is traditional, green tile etc, just like uptown but without 50-60 year's of wear and tear. I can only give 5 stars for this review, but would happily give it 6 if I could, Perfeck!!!

Had heard of this when they 1st opened and while we went to the sweeps festival we stopped for something to eat.

Attending Sweeps and seeing reviews on the Facebook P&M; appreciation society page - it just had to be done. checked about opening times before the weekend and got a quick reply. First port of call before a liquid day to line the stomach - a very friendly welcome was received and I tucked into my double double with liquor on a table with chilli vinegar. Lovely and generously filled pies with a few refreshing lumps in the mash and a nice gloopy liquor made a great solid base for the day. On my recommendation my daughter and her boyfriend also ate there as did a good friend with his guests later in the day - all agreed - To notch.

Had a late lunch there yesterday. Best pie and mash we've had in a longtime and we thought it was best in Medway, Good value for money. Run by authentic, friendly young South Londoner. The decor was spot on for tradition. Would highly recommend a visit! We'll definitely be going back.

We visited at a weekend without planning it, although had been wanting to try for a while. Both my husband and I were disappointed. I had the eels and mash with liquor and my husband had the traditional pie wuth mash and gravy. We both thought the mash was dry and lacked seasoning. His gravy was gloopy and my liquor had an odd consistency. He also said the pie lacked taste and my eels were over cooked.

Pie and Mash, what’s not to love ? Traditional décor, traditional short menu of Pie and Mash (single or double), liquor and eels – whisper it quietly, but they serve gravy as well! Went on a Sunday afternoon and was really quiet, so I hope the trade picks up for them and they become a High Street fixture. Settled on single Pie / Double Mash with liquor all good quality stuff and hit the spot along with a nice mug of tea. Very reasonably priced too

We have been using cathedral since it opened and it has been improving all the time. As a Londoner who grew up eating pies and mash I can say that it is on a par with the good old days. Highly recommended.

Traditional pie and mash with other options including gravy/liquor, eels etc. Clean and basic interior. On the High St. in centre of town. What a treat!

Husband bought takeaway from here on Saturday as big fan of Pie & Mash & he was not disappointed he thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful. Hes tried a few over the years, some very overpriced & tasteless but they don't even come close to this Pie & Mash. He is keeping his fingers crossed that it will be successful & be around for a while. Not overly expensive & if you want a treat to take you back to the good old pie & mash shops in London make a visit & he says you wont be sorry you did.

Really good pie & mash & liquor, clean traditional venue. The food is excellent value for money and you will get a satisfying meal if you are on a budget. The portions were very good, I had pie and double mash which is what I usually have when I visit a Pie & Mash shop and I couldn't finish the mash. The pie was traditional and well filled with minced meat, Staff friendly and helpful. If you like traditional pie & mash you will really like this place.

I have been a couple of times to the cathedral pie and mash shop and have found it excellent. Authentic pies, perfect mash and liquor. I grew up in south London on pie and mash and this is as traditional as it gets. Food is always hot, pies taste just cooked. The most relaxed place to eat in Rochester. Food is served straight away so no waiting, which is a bonus. Highly recommend this place for a real pie and mash experience.

Good food, clean restaurant, friendly welcoming staff and good value for money, a great place to pop into for a wallet friendly lunch or tea with the kids.

We had pies and liquor as a takeaway option. The pies were lovely, liquor had a great taste too. We will definately be back again for anothef takeaway or might stay to eat next time. The staff were friendly & chatty especially to our 4 year old son who incidently polished off a pie to himself. My husband is south london boy with specific ideas of the best pie & liquor & even he is impressed. Well done Cathedral Pie House, nice to see independant shops doing well in the high st.

Stumbled upon this new Pie and Mash shop while we were walking down Rochester High Street.

Dropped in for lunch on Saturday as was desperate to try it out. Simply, traditional pie, mash and liquor. No frills, good prices, and really good, hot food. I really hope it stays around longer then the previous restaurants on this site, and i heartily recommend everybody to give it a try. You wont be disappointed.

I visited the Cathedral pie house on the weekend with my sister Sharon ,who may I say is something of a pie and mash guru. She often posts on the pie and mash appreciation web site and is a greatly respected voice in that community. We both felt that the pie and mash was one of the best we had ever tasted including all the major establishments in London.

Great staff, very friendly, and the decor is very traditional. But it is all about the food, and the pie and mash with liqueur is delicious, up there with some of London's best. And they do eels both jellied and stewed, and for those who don't like the liquor they also do gravy. A traditional pie and mash shop in the heart of Rochester. Perfect ️

I really rate this place. I popped in before going on to football at Gillingham one Saturday just after it opened - and have had to go back three more times! It's fantastic and to my mind totally authentic. I've eaten proper London pie and mash all my life. Pies are hot, tasty, well filled and with a great crust. Mash is creamy. Liquor was exactly right. The place is spotlessly clean and the owners are friendly and warm.

Have been waiting for months for this place to open .very impressed .staff lovely and friendly place is very clean.pie mash and liquor is not for every one .my husband is a London boy and faves about arment in wallworth road .today have taken home m to our local pie and mash shop and he said it a close secomd to his beloved arment and that is high praise.i my self actually enjoyed it.will be coming back soon .

I was born in London so brought up on pie and mash,I opted for double- double ( two pie two mash) liquor£7.20 not sure if that is on par with London prices it filled my plate and liquor was nearly overflowing mash was slightly lumpy so more lumps please,pies were soft bottomed as they should be crusts was slightly hard that’s why only 4 stars but that could just be a one off apart from that was most enjoyable and will deff be going back definitely would recommend

Went yesterday and it was bloody luvly. Seems like stewed eels only at weekends so that is when I'll have to go. Pies are excellent. Good luck to em. Give em some support. Very brave venture.🎅🎅

I regularly go to Rochester and have watched over several weeks as this restaurant was created. I should declare that I’ve never been to a proper East End pie & mash shop, so I have nothing to compare this one with. I really like the concept but is it right for Medway? As a local boy I don’t recall seeing any as I was growing up.

I work in London and have the choice of Manzes or Arments.... I must say this is on par with them.....proper pie with suet base as they should be, none of your crusty bottom ones....... if you like pie mash you won't be disappointed
