The Hare and Hounds in Elmbridge

We hired the function room for my wife's 50th Birthday and it was amazing. The food and service were brilliant - Nick was very helpful with arrangments and organising and the room itself was outstanding - we had 65 guests and it was perfect - thank you Nick and the team at H&H - will be hiring the room for our nerxt event - my birthday!

One is always sceptical about eating in restaurants during the Christmas period.On this occasion there were nine of us and we had a variety of dishes and there were no disappointments. Compliments were made of all the dishes. The majority had fish and chips and the other dishes were chicken burger, roast pork, three people had this. Falafel spinach. We accompanied this with the French wine Viognier plus some beers. There was only one dessert which had to be the Christmas pudding. This was very good. Although the restaurant was extremely busy the service and staff were excellent. Although this is my local I always enjoy coming here.

By far and away the best fish and chips in a 20 mile radius (and I’ve tried a good number over the years). Really good options for my veg-leaning wife too.

Back to Claygate after many years in Brazil. Had a magnificent Sunday roast last Sunday 11th. The food came quick and was absolutely delicious. The service, attendance and the staff make it always special to return here. Next time in the UK will for sure drop in another great meal. Many thanks to all. PS: The beer mat is in a place of pride here in Rio de Janeiro.

I just had to write and share how lovely my meal was last night. Although very busy at 6pm on a Friday night with a full booking of the restaurant for a function, we were give a warm welcome by bar staff and customers. The menu wasn’t huge but offered a good range of choices . As a vegetarian I had the choice of two very different mains and I chose the (V) Oven Baked Aubergine Salad – couscous, ratatouille, halloumi, tomato, Rocket oil, pickle slaw salad - £15.00 and it was gorgeous, cooked to perfection and the perfect meal for a cold winters night. So often the vegetarian option is an after thought on pub menus, put there to tick a box but this was truly delicious and they knew how to cook halloumi ! My friend also thoroughly enjoyed her fish and chips. I just wish I’d had room for a pudding as I later heard from some others that they’d loved theirs.

We booked a party of 21 including young kids for a Saturday afternoon at the Hare recently. Having got our pre-order in a couple of days before, the food was served on time with no issues, and was enjoyed by everyone! As ever the service from the staff was excellent! This is a great village pub with plenty of space inside and out, right in the heart of Claygate. Would recommend it to anyone.

We had a fantastic lunch here today celebrating my Dad’s birthday with some of his oldest friends. We had a perfectly located table, tucked away so Dad and his friends could hear each other, the food was amazing (perfect Sunday roast) and we were able to bring our own birthday cake which made it all the more special. Thank you for being so welcoming and accommodating! We are not local but I wish we were!!

This pub provided us with a very pleasant eating experience. We arrived and were able to park in the adjacent car park, walked through the pretty arbour to the garden with seating, and a marquee. The pub itself had a welcoming fire and the pleasant staff served us our lunch. MI had the sea bream which turned out to be delicious, and my husband declared his gammon dish to be excellent. We will certainly return.

A great Sunday lunch in this cracking pub. The vegetarian nut roast was yummy. Fab service and as always a really welcoming team. We will be back again soonest.

Myself and my daughter popped in to The Hare and Hounds for a Sunday roast last week.The food was absolutely spot on, perfect portions. The service was excellent , the staff were pleasant and accommodating, Well worth a visit,5 stars thoroughly deserved 👍👍

With great food, excellent service, child friendly garden (as well as more adult focused outside spaces), regular live bands and plenty of indoor space (including a great 'private' room), The Hare and Hounds is the perfect village pub for meeting family and friends!

I didn’t want to write a bad review but I am going to be really honest here. We are long time customers of the hare and hounds and will not be returning. 1. Prices are too high now, you’ve raised them from February 2023 and we can’t afford to pay this for what we get. You are charging £18.50 for a main. 2. Portions are significantly smaller than 6 months ago. This was your draw and for some reason you’ve cut the portions. Doesn’t look good when charging £18.50 for a plate. 3. You have taken items off the menu that many people liked. I assume cost cutting but then again this doesn’t look good. 4. Service was appalling, other than the French lady who is always nice. No one even bothered to take our order. Bit strange, you did seem short staffed today but the pub wasn’t particularly busy. This place needs a turn around, you may have noticed less customers than before. Please address those 4 points above. Honestly this used to be a fantastic pub, I’m not sure what is going on. If you think any part of this review is inaccurate please let me know.

For many years, one of my favourite spots. Those were the days when a charming French woman used to run it. Now, if Sunday lunch is anything to go by, it's a shadow of its former self. Both the Lamb Roast and Beef Roast were of poor quality, particularly at £18 each. Meat tasteless and grey, veg. slightly overcooked. And you can always tell when the staff know it's not up to scratch because that's just about the only occasion when you're not asked: "How is your meal?" Other people, in a town of money, appear to have noticed as the place was always crowed at Sunday lunchtime; not any more. Drinks have always been pretty expensive and the tradition has been maintained.

Really happy with the buffet that was put on for my daughters gender reveal party . Beautifully made & presented , was delicious . The outside space was clean and completely adequate for our party . Would definitely recommend for any kind of celebration.

Met up with school friends, one I hadn’t seen for nearly 50 years. We had a lovely meal, excellent food, efficient and friendly service and a good atmosphere. I shall come again

Enjoyed a lovely Sunday afternoon meal with family.

17 of us met for lunch after a long walk. Fortunately the menu of the Hare & Hounds is very varied and there is virtually something to satisfy everyone. We were not disappointed on this occasion and we had such a variety of dishes that if I was to list them all it will be practically the whole of the venue I personally had the roasted sea bream fillet,Which was extremely good and I followed this with the ice cream. Brenda spoke highly of the oven baked aubergine salad, the Beer battered fish and chips and a chicken burger. We had a selection of drinks and there was no complaints of the food or the drinks. The staff as always were very good. Although this is my local I never get fed up with having a decent meal .

Saturday lunch in the area at the front of the pub. Lots of shade available if needed. Friendly service and great food. The chicken burger was one of the best I have ever had.

lovely lunch with friends over the Bank Holiday weekend. We went on a Saturday and had a table ready for us inside the restaurant. It was a bust day as there was a 40th birthday party outside on a lovely day. There was no one else inside of the pub so service was fast and efficient. The food was lovely and very tasty. We enjoyed our time here.

Stooped by The Hare and Hounds for a quick bite and pint after returning from Richmond Park for a stroll. Very pleasantly surprised by the quality and speed of service in the food department. So well cooked, just like your mums roast potatoes. The price is misleading. It seems a bit cheap for the quality! Not every day you can say that! Well worth a punt if your in the area.

Great pub that has not changed much in 30 years, except it looks like they serve excellent food - but did not have time for that. Relaxing with a very large covered front and uncovered rear garden.

I came here for a Sunday lunch with my family, and we weren’t impressed. I had a luke warm soup to start, and a forgettable roast as a main. Sadly, no love went into the food and I can’t recommend. Friendly smile service however.

Had dinner here on a Monday evening. Very quiet in the pub on a Monday. Food was good though. Enjoyed my Beef Bourguignon and my friend had Bangers & Mash. Friendly service. Cards accepted.

My friend booked this for a Xmas lunch for us as she had seen their set Xmas menu online. When we arrived it was very bleak not a cracker or festive napkin in sight. Not offered Xmas menu and told this was for Xmas parties...

Lovely roaring log fire awaited my Group Xmas meal on a very frosty day. Friendly staff. The meal was good quality.

Bar staff are wonderful. The food came quickly and was lovely and hot. Croque monsieur is my favourite and always comes with a nice salad and chips.

I organise a neighbourhood lunch five or six times a year. The number of people average 18 to 24. I have tried 2 or 3 different venues which have been disappointing. Today we went to the Hare and Hounds and had excellent food and a fairly short waiting time. I could not ask for more and congratulate the owners for excellent and professional service. Anna Almond

I've been here a few times after work and I think this is a lovely pub. It's got great facilities such as: outdoor gazebo with heaters, kids area, resturant area, great lighting and most importantly - great beer on tap with chilled glasses at the ready! It's a nice place to chill out and the folk running the pub are very warm and welcoming. They seem to have good deals with drinks and the prices in general are very good 👍 If you are walking you dogs nearby and fancy something to warm you up, they seem very welcoming of dogs and provide water too - nice touch! I must try eating here some day as I'm sure the food will be of a high standard, just like the establishment

This is a little gem of a pub, lovely atmosphere with absolutely devine food for the price. Me and my wife visited for lunch with our new born baby, I had beef bourguignon from the specials and my wife had duck breast, both meals tasted fabulous. Also the Sunday lunch is the best around by far!!!

Visited 4 days ago as stayng in the area. Staff very obliging and helpful. Menu was interesting. I could have chosen to eat most choices that were given. We went for Tuna salad - fresh tuna steak - excellent. Moules which were very tasty and a good sized portion, Chicken burger which was a chicken fillet and a fish dish.. We all had a pudding. I thoroughly recommend this place to eat. We will be back the next time we are in the area.

Came here for Father’s Day after reading the reviews but I am very disappointed the table was sticky I had pork belly and this was terrible not what I would call a pork belly at all. Clearly microwaved.
