Attended the inaugural quiz night last Tuesday. Was a great evening full of laughs and great food. Joe did a great job keeping us entertained and look forward to coming on a fortnightly basis.

Tuesday night quiz was great fun. Great host looking forward to the next one! Most Enjoyable.

The Hare and Hounds hosted my 40th birthday. The manager Nick was incredibly helpful and met my every need. With over 100 guests and members of the public there too, my friends and family were served swiftly and the pub was rocking with THE BEST covers rock band of all time, Ransom. Thank you Nick and your wonderful team behind the bar for an incredible night - i'll never forget it!

My husband and I came here with our dog a few weekends ago. We had a fantastic triple meat roast dinner. Generous meat portion and plenty of gravy (lack of gravy is all too common when you order a roast). Friendly staff, nice atmosphere.

Stopped there on a tour of Claygate.... and were kindly allowed to stay overnight in our camper in the car park. The landlord was a lovely chap and had a great chat. Staff attentive and the meal was excellent. Thanks for the great hospitality and would highly recommend. Elliot and Caroline

We went for dinner on Wednesday for the specials curry evening. We had the most delicious meal and couldn’t fault it at all. Atmosphere is always great there and so friendly. Can definitely recommend and will be back for more 🥰

Nice late afternoon set of drinks, with a couple of mates, outside. Good covered area, out the front. Nice atmosphere inside, and all the staff were affable and hard at work to accommodate all.

Went there as a family of 14 for a 60th birthday. There was a fab band playing which added to the great atmosphere. Despite being very busy our food was delicious and served quickly. Will definitely be returning. Thank you for a lovely afternoon.

We held our Golden Wedding celebrations 🍾 for family and friends. Attentive service, excellent food and a private room with access to the garden and playground for the children. They did us proud.

Lovely pub with huge amounts of outdoor seating, some seems to be specifically for children. The inside is quite spacious with plenty of room to move about in. I didn't eat, but did see what looked like some very nice fish and chips go by. The Guinness was excellent as was the Landlord

Nice building, food fine but a c.40 minute delay for two mains was a bit much on a slow tuesday lunchtime, cider nice and cold. We ordered at the bar, took our drinks with us and about 40 minutes later the food came out. One additional trip from the bar staff to bring a cup of tea (again ordered from the bar) and these two twenty meter trips resulted in a 12.5% / £7.50 service charge which IIRC was not mentioned on the menu - certainly not noticeably. We ordered one English Breakfast tea but got charged for two Earl Grey: CBA to get the bill corrected. Its a pub, not Claridge's; 12.5% simply to eventually bring out two meals and a cup of tea is too much. And we are exactly the demographic they want.

Lovely food and atmosphere! I would never have thought to pair a chicken/bacon ceasar salad with watermelon, mango and melon but it really worked and was very refreshing.

Two excellent meals recently at the Hare and Hounds, food very nice indeed. Two criticisms though, both times very slow to get the bill, maybe more staff needed, and one of the ladies loo’s was out of order, and still not working next time we visited. Needs to be fixed. Nevertheless, we will be back next time we are in the area.

Looking forward to going to the Hare and Hounds this weekend. Amazing times there for the last 3 years. So much going on there. Amazing food, beers and lagers wines etc. Good company and very friendly place to go to. Anyone is very welcome. And i fully recommend the Hare and Hounds.

A fantastic night for our evening function = the food was great the service was very efficient and the atmosphere was superb. Even though the pub was packed due to Euros we were still looked after extremely well.

Chose this restaurant after reading the TA reviews but this place certainly didn’t match up to the good reviews I read. I thought we’d booked a table in the restaurant but alas we were in the bar. Although the food was quite good, which to be fair is probably the most important thing, the service was virtually non existent. We sat at our table for 40 mins without anyone asking us what our order was, so in the end I went to the bar and asked. This resulted in someone taking our order (finally). However, there were 7 of us and we got 6 meals delivered. The waitress said oh we only put 6 orders into the kitchen. Really???? The 6 of us had pretty much eaten our food by the time the 7th meal arrived, without even an apology. The plates were then not collected from our table for about 15 minutes, we had to ask to have them cleared. So we asked for the bill and they had the audacity to add 12.5% service charge - what service? We didn’t pay the service charge and left disappointed. We won’t be returning, which is a shame as the food was quite nice.

Great food, great ambience. I’ve enjoyed it for almost thirty years.

We had my mums 80th birthday surprise roast buffet here for around 40 people, Nick and his team went above and beyond to make the day extra special, the food was absolutely lovely and everyone complimented on how nice it was, the staff were so polite and helpful, thankyou again

Great food and service for a recent family celebration. Allowed us to tailor the buffet to what we needed and everything was delicious. Definitely recommend.

Had a fantastic afternoon at the Hare & Hounds sitting outside in the sunshine with live music. The band were amazing, the Pimms was flowing, the atmosphere was great. Everyone was there, kids, dogs, three ladies on crutches… and everyone was happy. Compliments to the landlord on building such a friendly, inclusive place that really feels like the heart of the community.

Amazing food - curry night, and the home made bhajis are unlike anything I’ve had! Beautiful! Great atmosphere in the pub. Local vibe and extremely welcoming. Great for families or groups of friends. Great spot for a relaxed night out

Without being unfair, i didn't eat. I saw the kids' food on my table, so I could not make a judgement. It looks like a great pub if you have kids (play area outside). They had Heineken zero on tap, which was good as i was driving, but solely for me wouldn't be my first choice

We hired the function room for my wife's 50th Birthday and it was amazing. The food and service were brilliant - Nick was very helpful with arrangments and organising and the room itself was outstanding - we had 65 guests and it was perfect - thank you Nick and the team at H&H - will be hiring the room for our nerxt event - my birthday!

One is always sceptical about eating in restaurants during the Christmas period.On this occasion there were nine of us and we had a variety of dishes and there were no disappointments. Compliments were made of all the dishes. The majority had fish and chips and the other dishes were chicken burger, roast pork, three people had this. Falafel spinach. We accompanied this with the French wine Viognier plus some beers. There was only one dessert which had to be the Christmas pudding. This was very good. Although the restaurant was extremely busy the service and staff were excellent. Although this is my local I always enjoy coming here.

By far and away the best fish and chips in a 20 mile radius (and I’ve tried a good number over the years). Really good options for my veg-leaning missus too.

Back to Claygate after many years in Brazil. Had a magnificent Sunday roast last Sunday 11th. The food came quick and was absolutely delicious. The service, attendance and the staff make it always special to return here. Next time in the UK will for sure drop in another great meal. Many thanks to all. PS: The beer mat is in a place of pride here in Rio de Janeiro.

I just had to write and share how lovely my meal was last night. Although very busy at 6pm on a Friday night with a full booking of the restaurant for a function, we were give a warm welcome by bar staff and customers. The menu wasn’t huge but offered a good range of choices . As a vegetarian I had the choice of two very different mains and I chose the (V) Oven Baked Aubergine Salad – couscous, ratatouille, halloumi, tomato, Rocket oil, pickle slaw salad - £15.00 and it was gorgeous, cooked to perfection and the perfect meal for a cold winters night. So often the vegetarian option is an after thought on pub menus, put there to tick a box but this was truly delicious and they knew how to cook halloumi ! My friend also thoroughly enjoyed her fish and chips. I just wish I’d had room for a pudding as I later heard from some others that they’d loved theirs.

We booked a party of 21 including young kids for a Saturday afternoon at the Hare recently. Having got our pre-order in a couple of days before, the food was served on time with no issues, and was enjoyed by everyone! As ever the service from the staff was excellent! This is a great village pub with plenty of space inside and out, right in the heart of Claygate. Would recommend it to anyone.

We had a fantastic lunch here today celebrating my Dad’s birthday with some of his oldest friends. We had a perfectly located table, tucked away so Dad and his friends could hear each other, the food was amazing (perfect Sunday roast) and we were able to bring our own birthday cake which made it all the more special. Thank you for being so welcoming and accommodating! We are not local but I wish we were!!

This pub provided us with a very pleasant eating experience. We arrived and were able to park in the adjacent car park, walked through the pretty arbour to the garden with seating, and a marquee. The pub itself had a welcoming fire and the pleasant staff served us our lunch. MI had the sea bream which turned out to be delicious, and my husband declared his gammon dish to be excellent. We will certainly return.

I didn’t want to write a bad review but I am going to be really honest here. We are long time customers of the hare and hounds and will not be returning. 1. Prices are too high now, you’ve raised them from February 2023 and we can’t afford to pay this for what we get. You are charging £18.50 for a main. 2. Portions are significantly smaller than 6 months ago. This was your draw and for some reason you’ve cut the portions. Doesn’t look good when charging £18.50 for a plate. 3. You have taken items off the menu that many people liked. I assume cost cutting but then again this doesn’t look good. 4. Service was appalling, other than the French lady who is always nice. No one even bothered to take our order. Bit strange, you did seem short staffed today but the pub wasn’t particularly busy. This place needs a turn around, you may have noticed less customers than before. Please address those 4 points above. Honestly this used to be a fantastic pub, I’m not sure what is going on. If you think any part of this review is inaccurate please let me know.

For many years, one of my favourite spots. Those were the days when a charming French woman used to run it. Now, if Sunday lunch is anything to go by, it's a shadow of its former self. Both the Lamb Roast and Beef Roast were of poor quality, particularly at £18 each. Meat tasteless and grey, veg. slightly overcooked. And you can always tell when the staff know it's not up to scratch because that's just about the only occasion when you're not asked: "How is your meal?" Other people, in a town of money, appear to have noticed as the place was always crowed at Sunday lunchtime; not any more. Drinks have always been pretty expensive and the tradition has been maintained.

Really happy with the buffet that was put on for my daughters gender reveal party . Beautifully made & presented , was delicious . The outside space was clean and completely adequate for our party . Would definitely recommend for any kind of celebration.

Met up with school friends, one I hadn’t seen for nearly 50 years. We had a lovely meal, excellent food, efficient and friendly service and a good atmosphere. I shall come again

Enjoyed a lovely Sunday afternoon meal with family.

17 of us met for lunch after a long walk. Fortunately the menu of the Hare & Hounds is very varied and there is virtually something to satisfy everyone. We were not disappointed on this occasion and we had such a variety of dishes that if I was to list them all it will be practically the whole of the venue I personally had the roasted sea bream fillet,Which was extremely good and I followed this with the ice cream. Brenda spoke highly of the oven baked aubergine salad, the Beer battered fish and chips and a chicken burger. We had a selection of drinks and there was no complaints of the food or the drinks. The staff as always were very good. Although this is my local I never get fed up with having a decent meal .

It was a bust day as there was a 40th birthday party outside on a lovely day. There was no one else inside of the pub so service was fast and efficient. The food was lovely and very tasty. We enjoyed our time here.

Stooped by The Hare and Hounds for a quick bite and pint after returning from Richmond Park for a stroll. Very pleasantly surprised by the quality and speed of service in the food department. So well cooked, just like your mums roast potatoes. The price is misleading. It seems a bit cheap for the quality! Not every day you can say that! Well worth a punt if your in the area.

Great pub that has not changed much in 30 years, except it looks like they serve excellent food - but did not have time for that. Relaxing with a very large covered front and uncovered rear garden.

I came here for a Sunday lunch with my family, and we weren’t impressed. I had a luke warm soup to start, and a forgettable roast as a main. Sadly, no love went into the food and I can’t recommend. Friendly smile service however.

Had dinner here on a Monday evening. Very quiet in the pub on a Monday. Food was good though. Enjoyed my Beef Bourguignon and my friend had Bangers & Mash. Friendly service. Cards accepted.

My friend booked this for a Xmas lunch for us as she had seen their set Xmas menu online. When we arrived it was very bleak not a cracker or festive napkin in sight. Not offered Xmas menu and told this was for Xmas parties...

Bar staff are wonderful. The food came quickly and was lovely and hot. Croque monsieur is my favourite and always comes with a nice salad and chips.

Lovely roaring log fire awaited my Group Xmas meal on a very frosty day. Friendly staff. The meal was good quality.

I organise a neighbourhood lunch five or six times a year. The number of people average 18 to 24. I have tried 2 or 3 different venues which have been disappointing. Today we went to the Hare and Hounds and had excellent food and a fairly short waiting time. I could not ask for more and congratulate the owners for excellent and professional service. Anna Almond
