Went for a Sunday lunch carvery. We were visiting the Rowans hospice and this pub is very close by. There were 5 of us adults. Never been in the pub before so didn't know what to expect. We had a warm welcome and great table service, which is rare these days. The carvery was lovely, 4 different meats to choose from. There is a 2 meat or 3 meat option. We all had the 2 meats and had a generous amount of each. There were lots of veg options, cauliflower cheese, leeks, pickled cabbage, even mac and cheese etc, huge Yorkshire puds and crispy roast potatoes plus all the sauces. The price was £10 for all this! We all really enjoyed our meals. Would highly recommend.

Popped in for a beer on Saturday about 1500hrs. Pub outside looks really run down and car park area looks really scruffy, weeds everywhere. Part of the roof overhang to the right of the main door was hanging down, not very inviting. Inside was very quiet with about six people, there was a few tables dotted randomly around making the place look very sparse. Out the back could be very nice but again it is very neglected, used a smoke area with cigarette ends all over the floor. I wouldn’t go here again, the George is a far nicer pub just five minutes away.

I can safely say that this was the worst bar food that I have ever had!!!! I’m not so sure where to start! The food was over cooked but also cold, how that is even possible is beyond me! I can only say that bet option is to stick to crisp and nuts as the food is not even worthy for a dog!

First visit. On a Wednesday evening. Large bar and dining area - but far too open & noisy from drinkers at bar carried over into dining area. Dining area massive, but not many tables - can only assume that they have no need for more. The daily special was very fair, for what we paid. Served piping hot. Pudding of the day was bread pudding with icecream. Excellent bread pudding (like mum makes) but the portion of icecream was hardly adequate. Hot chocolate was water based - and its taste reflected this. Staff were very attentive and helpful; but overall this pub does look a little tired. Maybe it gets busier on other nigts , bt when we called it was vey poorly supported. 5 people in place apart from us 2.

We nearly didn’t go here this evening after reading previous reviews from May 2018. We live nearby so decided to try as we could walk. So pleased we did the meal was excellent. 6 of us including 2 children. The staff were efficient and friendly. Two of us had the hallourmi salad it was delicious and the nicest I’ve had. The meals were all hot and well cooked. The icing on the cake was that there is a deal on (we didn’t know at the time) the children’s main meal were free. The menu was extensive with something for everyone. All in all a very nice meal very reasonably priced and we will visit again.

I met my friend and her one year old daughter for an afternoon drink. Whilst there, my friend gave her daughter her lunch. She placed her in the high chair ( which needed a clean first as it filthy dirty ) and proceeded to feed her a banana, yoghurt etc. As time went by the feeding continued I drib and drabs as it does with a one year old, part of her lunch was a sandwich ( bought from a shop ) We were then approached by a member of staff ( hard to tell she was a staff member by her attire ) and told that we were not allowed to bring in our own food and next time will be asked to move to the garden! When told the food was for a child she replied , the baby didn't eat any'! I couldn't believe what I was hearing!! Did she really think two adults would try and sneak a sandwich into the pub on the pretence of feeding a child! We left shortly after and certianly won't be returning.

Visiting on a Friday night for a family meal. We found a table and placed an order at the bar and got some drinks. That was the highlight of the evening. From there it was downhill all the way. After waiting for an eternity 4 of the 5 meals ordered arrived. The Cumberland sausage ring was burned on one side and almost raw on the other. The fish for the fish and chips was uncooked in the middle. The two burgers that arrived had toppings missing and mixed up. The server didn’t know if one of them was the Cajun burger or a plain beef one. When everyone had finished the last meal arrived and again the server had no clue what it was. All side salads were brown, limp and best left untouched. An order of onion rings as a side dish never arrived. When we raised the problems with the staff we were told it was a communication problem due to the ordering system between the bar and kitchen. The side salads were like that because it was hot ! Have they not heard of refrigeration and food safety ? We were offered no compensation of any sort and left bitterly disappointed. We will not be returning under any circumstances and would not recommend this pub to my worst enemies and certainly not to my friends.

The pub was empty, however it was 1.15pm on a working day so maybe that’s normal. The place was clean and tidy and the lady on the bar nice and friendly. So where do I start on the food ? Two Starters French onion soup and a pate .... both ok Four Main courses Lasagne over cooked and dry Scampi and chips: ok but nothing to write home about. Beef and ale pie: terrible, dry and over cooked and inside the pie looked like dried processed tinned meat. Spaghetti carbonara. Dry but at least it had some flavour Would I go there again..... Not if I was hungry would be a fair answer

We just wanted to say what a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience we had at the Hampshire Rose today. We had booked for a table of 8 with the intention of us all having a Sunday roast but as there was a lovely menu choice on offer we had the roast beef and a few steak dishes instead and each choice really hit the spot. Steaks were cooked just right and our roast dinners too. We all cleared our plates and we tucked into a good choice of puddings. Again these were delicious. My brother-in-law had a starter of Calamari and said it was the best he'd tasted in years. Everything was presented beautifully and puddings were very generous! The value of our two course meal was fantastic. Thank you to the friendly welcoming landlady and staff who really made this impromptu family meal out such a lovely one. We even won their meat raffle! (They have one every Sunday which was a nice surprise) A visit we will definitely be repeating. Perfect for family meals and although we didn't go outside, they have a lovely beer garden with plenty to entertain young children. A play area for toddlers at one end of the pub inside too. Recommended to all!!!!

My Wife and I tried this Pub for a Sunday roast recently and had an average meal. The service was very good but the food a bit bland, although the roast pork was lovely. We rented the function room for a 50th birthday party. Booking was easy the staff we met were informative and helpful. Our event went really well we opted for the food to be provided by the venue there was plenty of it and the quality was good. We provided our own music there would have been room for a dj there was a decent seating area and room for a dance area also. There were enough power points on the different walls to allow you to move the layout around if you wanted. The staff helped set up and clearing away honestly can't say there were any issues at all. I would definitely host another event here.

Staff team were able to advise on booking a band and all staff really friendly and helped make the party planning easy and the evening really enjoyable. Completely by chance we ended up in the Hampshire Rose after avoiding traffic jams and getting hungry.Friendly, attentive and relaxed service. Excellent home cooked food. Lovely atmosphere with families with kids and older costumers together. The decor is very tasteful and gives a light, bright and modern background. The pic of the outside does not do it justice—don't be put off. The conservatory style dining area at the back has a lot of windows and so is very light. It opens onto a garden area with kids' play equipment and is obviously great for families with younger kids.I can't not mention the food again. It is all freshly prepared and the mushroom soup I had would have cost multiples of what they charged at a fine dining restaurants but the recipe could not have been improved. Every dish was excellent, and I'd love to go back for a more leisurely meal another time.

We hired the function room for my husband's 50th birthday party. It is totally self-contained with it's own bar and toilets with capacity for 60 people. It was an ideal size for this number, there is nothing worse than having party atmosphere diluted in a hired venue that is too large with too few guests. The whole process was efficient and pain free :) All I needed to do was book the DJ and invite people. The food was excellent quality and value and there was plenty of it. Everyone had a great night and said as much. Thanks again to everyone at the Hampshire Rose.

Initial impression was that the place is a bit scruffy but we went in anyway. Ordered steaks for me and my wife and lamb shank for my mother. Really glad we went. The food was great, the steaks were tender, flavour-full and cooked perfectly, a WHOLE, properly cooked tomato, lots of peas, whole mushrooms and lovely, homemade chips. The lamb shank was delicious with lots of meat, a good sized jacket potato, carrots and cauliflower. All this + 3 pints of beer for £42.85!

Went here today for a charity function and it has certainly gone down hill since the new owners took over. Under the last ownership the function room was free and the buffet was lovely. The buffet was £5 a head and for that we got cheap cheese and tomato pizza bits, Sandwiches which though were fresh consisted of cheese, plain cucumber, wafer thin ham, tuna. Goujons which were barely chicken more value minced chicken flavour and then to be fair some veggy spring rolls and sausage rolls which were nice. Also this time they charged for the room as well. Lastly they need to fix the toilet door so it shuts easier.Summary it's a good size room for a function but dont bother with food !

On Saturday August 9 th we had our golden wedding anniversary party at the Hampshire Rose in Waterlooville We wanted a buffet for forty and I have to say they did us proud and the compliments flowed all evening. The manager and chef had allowed us to mix and match between the standard menus so that we got exactly what we wanted and the vegetarians in the group were well catered for too.The function room has its own bar and the bar staff were excellent. We operated a tab system giving each guest a choice of free drinks on our tab, which must have added no end to their work load but they were very professional and kept smiling throughout the evening. Really, nothing was too much trouble for all the staff right from our first booking of the room to putting up the decorations we had bought.and even though we had to make amendments to the numbers and the menu a couple of times for guests who were late in replying to their invitations there was not a single complaint from them. At the end of the party many of our guests. made a point of saying what an excellent buffet had been provided and what a lovely atmosphere had been created,by the friendliness of the staff. So thank you all at The Hampshire Rose, you gave us a lovely evening to remember. We know where to come for any future family events.

Visited this pub two weeks ago. It's a big place which can cope with large parties but pretty soul-less . It was so cold that we had to keep our coats on throughout the meal. We all chose the Sunday roasts( so in fairness I can't comment on other dishes) but when they arrived, it was like looking at school dinners. Totally unappetising , the roast potatoes were white and hadn't been anywhere near a roasting tin, the balls of stuffing were so hard that a knife couldn't cut them and they caused great amusement, a dish of boring plain vegetables and a couple slices of insipid meat and a splosh of gravy. The 'yorkshire pud' was a joke, so overcooked and hard. My 85 year old Dad peered at his plate and asked me what the black thing was! We left most of it, decided against dessert or coffee and left as soon as we could. The young girls serving were polite and very sweet but apart from that, I can't think of a good thing to say about the whole experience. Definitely the worst meal we have had for years.

We were given a choice of tables and picked one near the back. Quite slow to take our order (comped us a beer) which was for warm breads to start and two pan-fried chicken with hassleback potatoes and tarragon jus. The food was very tasty. Service from our waitress was good, but the two waitresses were doing all the work, whilst the three waiters did a lot of walking around looking busy. When we asked for the bill, it was explained that they had a problem with their system and couldn’t charge to the room. I explained that we had a F&B credit so needed to charge to the room. Took about 20 minutes to resolve, but got there eventually! £76 including 12.5% service charge.
