The best curry I’ve ever had! The food is absolutely amazing I cannot recommend it enough. The customer service is outstanding, there’s nothing more you could want 10/10

Ordered a take away....oily beyond belief. No care or concern was taken during the preparation of this food....and it cost £42. Won't be using them again. Really disappointing....I can't understand why other people give a good review.

Check you bill and credit card payment when you share with friends.. often is more than you have asked to pay.. BTW food is good, shame staff are taking advantage despite the service charge included..

The curry and Bombay aloo was very mild and bland tonight not their usual standard hopefully just a temporary chef change

We just had a lovely meal here and the atmosphere was very relaxed and enjoyable. We had a very pleasant drink in their spacious and sunny pub garden whilst waiting for the table we booked (We got there ahead of time to enjoy this). The courses were superb, tasty and served over a leisurely amount of time so we did not feel rushed and could enjoy all the lovely food on offer. Attentive waiters, but never intrusive or pushy (as some can be in other establishments). Great food, great atmosphere and lovely staff. Highly recommended. Well done on tonight guys ;)

We moved away from Newbury a few years ago, but grabbed the chance to come back to the Gun when visiting friends in Newbury recently. The food is exceptional, good portions and good flavours, a really decent wine list as well. Really friendly serving team and I would Highly recommend. We have never been disappointed with any meal here and certainly were not this time!

I’ve had many curry’s from The Gun all of which are of a very high standard but this one was the best one I’ve ever had from this establishment. Ordered in the pub and it was ready within 15/20 minutes. The food was super tasty and cooked to perfection! Would highly recommend The Gun for your curry!! 5 stars!!

After reading reviews we had our first takeaway last night and sadly it will be our last. The food (including the pilau rice and the onion salad ) arrived tepid at best and was virtually tasteless. My husband doesn’t like hot food so I asked for a recommendation for a tasty less hot curry …but even so it should still have good flavour. The Chicken shashlik was even chewy. The only thing both of us thought worth eating was the Peshwari naan. I would also question the suspiciously red mango chutney….tasted more like watered down sweet chilli sauce to both of us. Having owned a business I’m always keen to give a chance to ‘put things right’ before just leaving a negative review, so I rang them to say how disappointed we were and why. I was told the manager would call me back but so far hasn’t…….hence the review. Maybe they just had a bad night but we won’t be risking it again.

Indian restaurant attached to a pub. Poppadums we’re soggy, not crisp. Tables too close to one another, so you felt like you were dining with others. I’ll update on the main meal

We booked for my Birthday, so much fun. Food was gorgeous, so tasty and well presented. Bill is an absolute legend landlord. I would recommend whole heartedly for takeaways and meals in.

We have been trying to find decent Indian food since leaving London 20 years ago. The Gun has hit the spot. Beautiful, flavoursome food, great friendly service. Cannot wait to go back!

Ordered via website ahead of time - order placed around 5:30pm to collect at 7pm. Arrived to collect at 7pm, no communication on how long order would be, no apology that it was not ready. Eventually when asked told order would be 5mins, ended up waiting till 7.55pm before asking for a refund. Still no apology that order was late, and the bar staff remarked ‘it’s not our fault it’s Christmas’ This is not the first time we have had this experience, yet given benefit of doubt. Will no longer be using either takeaway or restaurant service again. Considering they had all my contact details, I would have been more than understanding if they contacted me in advance to tell me they could not commit to the order time.

Excellent curry house with top notch curries. Food Standards Agency now 5 Stars. Highly recommend for both eating in and taking out. Very well priced. Never had a bad curry here.

Nice curry... shame we found out afterwards that the hygiene rating is 1 out of 5... god knows what the kitchen is like. Need to sort that out before I would ever consider ordering again!

Excellent food every time.Visits to the gun to get a takeaway are now a weekly occurrence, we can’t fault the food. Having been a regular Newbury curry takeaway user for many years I can say this is the tastiest food in town, it also travels much better than others we have used (doesn’t go watery by the time you get home!) All elements are cooked perfectly every time, and really flavoursome - no burnt poppadoms, rock hard bhajis, bland potatoes or chewy chicken like we’ve experienced in most other places in town from time-to-time (really hoping I don’t jinx things )Sometimes the wait time is longer than expected which isn’t ideal, and when eating in it feels like it could do with a lick of paint and making more ‘Indian’, but food-wise we can’t fault it.

I usually have one takeaway from he Gun every week, and have occasionally dined there with friends. The food has always been first class and the beer is good too. Great staff, friendly and efficient. They deserve to be profitable and perhaps could invest some of that profit in refurbishing the lounge area.

Lovely curries served from a Pub turned Indian Restaurant. Great option if you live in Wash common, Woolton Hill and Enbourne areas as it is slightly closer than town. Great dishes - including all the classics - swell as chef specials. You can also order online which is really convenient. Always a good options for a weekend curry.Saag aloo, Bhuna and Naan's are great. Lamb can be a bit chewy.

The restaurant area of the pub was comfortable and pleasant with some decent beers on tap. The main issue here is the pub area which has rough patronage. We were surprised at how low brow some of the clients were in such an affluent area. My advice to owners: lose the pool table and redecorate.

I went there with my family loads it's only 5 min up my road lovely food never made any complaint's staff are so helful I had the chicken tikka masala it was lush I would defenintly go there again they do not provide desserts

We decided to try this place after hearing amazing reviews about the food. We arrived 6.15pm on Saturday night. Only one other table was being used.We ordered our food around promptly. It took over an hr to receive our starter. A few people were waiting for takeaways. So no real reason for the wait. They certainly weren't rushed off their feet.We were just about to leave and the starters turned up. Lots of people were complaining. They were just told well we are busy.. No apologies were given.The food was really good but we won't be returning anytime soon. With over an hr wait for a takeaway too.

This is a favourite haunt of ours. We took my two teenage boys for the first time on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was quiet with only one other family of four in the restaurant. The food was of the usual high standard. The problem was the wait to be served. It took over an hour from ordering our meal which took 15 minutes of waiting to order before the we ate. There seemed to be no apparent reason for why the service was slow despite asking to be served. I believe a wait if 1 hr 15 mins on a quiet Sunday is too long to wait. We will give this restaurant a miss for a while as it seems to of lost its way

Booked a table for 12, 2 families with grown up children and partners, and what a great night we had.We turned up late due to some of group being delayed by a rail incident. But we rang ahead to let them know.The staff here are great extremely friendly and service is excellent, we kickEd of with a stack of popadoms and pickles, and then went for main with sides, there is a great selection of food here, and the only thing I can say every morsel was eaten and enjoyed, the staff kept bring fresh drinks when needed and the food was all brought out together which was some feat being we did not preorder.As some reviewers have mentioned the decor, but what place could not do with a lick of paint here or there, but who cares when the food been served is this good!The food bill was about £15 per head, the drinks well no one knows as we paid as we went, probably just as well!Will certainly be back! Give this place a go you won’t regret it.

We arrived having pre-booked a booked table into a noisy, chaotic pub. Ordered drinks, gin and tonic was served in a Fosters Half Pint glass!

Sampled a lot of different main dishes here, all have been excellent. Naga Chilli Masala is always lovely plus a great range of beers.

Nice friendly pub for a beer with friends - havent eaten here but can recommend the bitter. Long may it last too

Decided to order an Indian takeaway after reading good reviews. We were very disappointed in the quality of all of the dishes. The stuffed paratha was so saturated in oil that we couldn't eat it. The chicken Rezala was very bland, more like chicken in tomato sauce, not like any Rezala I've ever had. The Aloo Gobi Masala and Mushroom Bhaji were just tasteless. All of dishes were very runny, leaving everything soaked in watery mess . None of it tasted Indian ! It was so bad that my partner threw his in the bin and made a sandwich !

Arrived on Friday evening to find both the pub and restaurant very busy but had made a reservation so all good. Offered a table in the bar which was very noisy and crowded so asked to be moved and this was handled very professionally. Moved to a slightly quieter table in the restaurant area. Great food: very impressed with the nan bread which was one of the fluffiest i have had in a long time. Generous portions to the extend we asked for a take out container - supplied willingly. Reasonable price on final bill so overall very good food and experience.

The management are to be commended for turning an ailing pub into a thriving Indian restaurant but their initial success may prove to be their downfall. We have eaten here several times now and most times the food has been very good. The service, however, is appalling as the kitchen is obviously unable to cope with the quantity of diners and takeaways.

Despite all of the good reviews, our experience of the quality / value for money of the food was very disappointing. We ordered a lamb madras as one of the dishes and discovered a container full of sauce with a few tiny pieces of lamb lurking at the bottom....we basically paid £7.50 for a container of curry sauce! We could not return the food as it would have meant tipping the food back into the container and a return trip to the pub whilst the rest of our food was getting cold. I contacted the pub via their website to complain but this has not been acknowledged. We will be getting a takeaway elsewhere in future.

I reviewed the Gun a few months ago after being impressed with the food and the service. Since then i have been up about 7 or 8 times and on every occasion it has been outstanding. I took a chance on a Vindaloo last time and it was absolutely delicious.

Went as a group of 6 on a friends recommendation. The restaurant is set in a pub and it was very noisy and a bit shabby. Customers ordering takeaways were stood by the bar looking over us eating (when our food eventually arrived).

Yet again amazing food. Naga chilli but with king prawns even though not on the menu. Great okra and spinach dishes. So fresh. Not oily at all which we hate. Just brilliant. Lovely service too. By far the best Indian in Newbury.

We ordered almost as soon as we got in and mains weren’t served until nearly two hours later. The food wasn’t bad but you can easily go to other places in town and waits less than half an hour for the same quality food. I can’t say we’ll be coming back.

Ordered our usual and good food but...missed dishes again! Nearly every order we have place they have missed something and after waiting usually over 45mins it is disappointing. They are good but when you cant even get through on the phone to ask where you sides are, it makes you wonder if they deliberately miss dishes to save time and money. Not great service!

This is an unassuming curry house which packs a real punch. The staff are friendly and the curry is amazing and is excellent value. The place is constantly packed. Although the decor could do with some modernisation, this does not detract from the quality of the food. Highly recommend it....

Wandered across from the adjacent rugby Club. Excellent fare, decent Ale and buzzy atmosphere. Service was willing if a little flustered but Curry houses moving into struggling pubs is a great concept which I am sure is likely to gain further momentum.

We were greeted by the friendly staff and had a lovely meal. My children had a Tikka Masala and I had a Chicken Madras. Good Naan. I highly recommend it.

Quite a few people have recently told me that the Indian Food at The Gun was good, so decided to give it a go. The food in the past there has been so bad I thought I would never return.

Me and my friend went to pick our children from school on Monday. While we had to wait we decided to drink in the gun pub.we saw the waitress smoking and cuddling her boyfriend outside. I asked her is anyone inside to serve drink. She showed me her cigarette and told us to go inside and she will serve us once she finishes her cigarette. She than started giggling withe her boyfriend.

Had another take away from here yesterday. Usual excellent food. Compliments once again to the chef and the friendly team front of house.

3rd visit to the Gun, if you are after a great curry experience do visit this place, we went on...

I live locally and would not normally go out to a pub like The Gun, but after a firend recommneded it we decided to give it a go. The food is so good, truly fresh and delicous. Try the coconut rice and garlic naan...amazing. Staff were really lovely and service was quick. Its not the most idylic setting, its all about the food and defo worth a visit.

So first visit to The Gun wasn’t even aware it was a curry house.

We visited again on Friday night, with wife, daughter (20) and son (17), strict rules popadoms and breads, with mains and rice only.

I'm a local to the pub and I experienced my first sit down curry in The Gun this weekend. 13 of us were dining and all agreed that the food, service and price was fantastic. I've also had many a take away from The Gun and I can say that the standard is as good as it was the day it turned into a restaurant. Great experience !!

6 of us visited after the races at Newbury. Bar and waiting staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We ordered Gosht Khata masala, House special, Chicken rezala, Chicken rogan josh, Lamb tikka masala, Chicken makhani, garlic and peshwari naan and pillau rice. Everyone throughly enjoyed their food. We all tried each other's and everyone agreed all the food was delicious. Fantastic evening. Thank you! If at the races again we will definitely come back!

My partner had eaten there recently and we fancied a takeaway and due to the cold wet summer Saturday we opted for the Gun due to its locality and easy access. We had a variety of curries, side dishes, rices and nan'sGood sized portions all rounds and very tasty too. The only downside was that the nan bread had cooled in transit, but were easily warmed and still tasty

I booked the whole back restaurant (10.00 pm) for the U17 end of season dinner, there were 12 players on one table and 10 parents on another. We placed our orders in the car park before going off to collect our trophy at the presentation evening in nearby Aldershot.We arrived around 10.15 and our dining area was ready, they provided complimentary poppadoms and pickles for everyone while they started to bring the food in, the boys table first was about 3 trollies worth, than all had a main, rice and a bread, everything was eaten, which was great considering a couple were having there first curry!Then they started to bring in the parents food, everything eaten again, and a huge thank you to the waiting staff who got the right dinner, served hot and fresh for everyone.Everything was very reasonably priced and it was a very good evening, would defiantly do the same again next year, although there may be a little less coke drunk when they are 18!

Table of Eleven on a lads Curry night out, what a great idea it was to come here. One of the best Curry's I've ever had. Tandoori chicken for starter and a Chicken Dopiaza for main with mushroom rice & plain naan. There was just enough onion to go with some tomato & peppers, sometimes other places go overboard on the onions & I'd struggle to finish it. Not tonight, I made it to a clean plate. My next Curry night will be here, hopefully soon!

Best curry in town, period ! No disrespect to the other curry houses in town, they are good as well, but the curry in The Gun ? Unbeatable ! Kamal is a really good chef, and Bill is doing a good job and he is a good person ! If you didn't tried the curry here, what are you waiting for ? Just had coconut rice, garlic naan, chicken jalfrezi and a lamb tikka masala. Great food. I would really recommend it.

After purchasing my Indian takeaway for me and my family. During my journey home the containers have spilt open everywhere within the bag resulting in the curry spilling all over my car and making the takeaway uneatable. I can only presume that the containers were not done up properly, i phoned the restaurant and I was advised to bring back in the bag where the curries had spilt in after I had chucked the bag. I found this very degrading and was in other words accused of lying! I honestly can not believe how rude and abrupt they were during the phone call and would not recommend them in the future.

This is my local pub and haven't been for a while. Really fancied a curry, and had heard good things so ordered a takeaway. Ordering was easy but not the most informative as no times given like it says it will. So rang and was told 25-30mins. Went to collect, and it was ready. Had a chicken sag and a chicken korma. The chicken sag wasn't hot but the korma was but both absolutely delicious! Tried coconut rice for the first time and it was amazing! Ordered 2 popadoms but got four, didn't pay for dips but got them, so that was really good! Will definitely be back, and can't wait to try it in the pub itself! A must try!

This is the 3rd meal I enjoyed from here and impressed every time. This is the best this pub has been for the 13 years I lived in the area. Very friendly and pleasant service.

Had a sit down meal a month or so ago which we liked, so decided to give their takeaway menu a go.The food was good would have been better with less oil, did start to get a bit sickly after a while. Taste wise it was very nicely spiced.

The Gun Curry restaurant is a good solid curry house. All the normal dishes are done well but some of the special dishes are a bit too "special" for my liking. The Staff are friendly and the beer is cold so whats not to like.

Found this restaurant on trip advisor, when staying in Newbury. Was very busy, and understandable as was excellent. Very good value as well. Service was good, but slow but as said very busy, but food was worth waiting for. Would differently recommend this place.

Our First visit to the Gun since it changed to a Indian restaurant .The place was buzzing and as the dining room is quite small ,25 or so covers,it was rather noisy especially when a large party had had a few beers !If you are not familiar with indian food the menu was a bit sparse with description.However the food was very good ,served on hot plates and in large portions.Will definatly visit again ,but perhaps on a quieter night

Wife was out with friends so my son (17) and I decided to try the new Indian restaurant at the Gun Pub, which was within walking distance of home.The pub under previous guises was quite and not terribly inspiring, and only warranted an occasional visit because of the nice garden at the back.What as surprise, a busy atmospheric bar and a bustling restaurant, we booked on line, and we were glad we did as it was very busy, we were seated more or less on time.The menu seemed to contain all the old favourites,with something for all tastes.We shared poppadoms and pickles and had a main course each a rice and some breads, son wolfed down his fish curry and I enjoyed a good sized portion of chicken ticka and salad. £32.50 with 3 pints and 1 1/2 cokes was excellent to value.Service was good and friendly, the only negative was the wait for the food was a it longer than expected, but worth the wait Definitely go back with her indoors and the daughter.I also applaud the owners for bringing a curry house to a part of Newbury the seriously needed some food served without chips! I wish them every success

Fancied a curry and just checked previous reviews. This is the best we have had in Newbury for a long time. Ordered online, and as a Saturday night there was a bit of a delay, but worth the weight.Chicken Tikka Massala, Vegetable Bhune and Lamb Bhuna...all great.

As said in title the food at The Gun Indian is very good and I would recommend for that. However the service is slow, fragmented and waitress looked very unhappy.

We had a takeaway. I rang before ordering online as I needed to confirm ingredients in one of the dishes because of allergies. The staff could not have been more helpful. It was easy to order online and the food was ready at the time given. When we arrived to collect it the staff were very welcoming and took the time to confirm that the dish was free of the ingredients I am allergic to. My only complaint would be that the food was a little colder than I would like and we had to reheat it when we got home. Other than that it was delicious.

Ordered take away, was ready in 20mins, one of the best Indian meals we have had, not expensive either, will certainly be back :)

Came here on Sunday with my husband and friend.Only one other table in which they sat next to us, would have preferred it if they had used another table, but that's personal taste for more privacy. The food was excellent, everyone was very impressed with the choices on offer and the dishes they selected.We covered a wide selection of the menu, my vegetables shashlik was huge and tasty , my husband and friend both enjoyed their curries and completely raved about the Kulcha naan.Definitely will be back.

I was getting a bit fed up with several of the curry houses in town who seem to try and offer huge portions by bulking out the meal with tomatoes and onions. I had the garlic chicken which was a perfect portion size and just the right amount of heat provided by fresh chillis. Naan breads were tasty although a little on the small side. Everything was well cooked, not swimming in grease although a couple of free poppadoms would have been a nice touch...Great to have somewhere local with plenty of free parking and next time I would like to try the restaurant instead of takeaway. Definately recommend The Gun.

As we live relatively close, we have been in The Gun for a beer on a number of occasions for a beer since it was taken over as the pub looks so much better now. . We thought we'd try a take away and ordered through their own website. It didn't give a waiting time so I called and was told it would be an hour. An hour later, I went to collect and was waiting a further hour at the bar before it finally arrived...not happy especially as I kept getting told it wouldn't be long! The food was ok, my wife's chicken shashlik was very dry but the chicken Biryani was ok! It was good to see the place packed but feel a little more honesty when ordering and waiting wouldn't go amiss! We may try once more as it may have just been a bad day and other people have told us the food is very nice!

We've not been to the gun for 4 years and it's seen a few changes in that time. We tried ordering a takeaway online, which was simple. Website seems to include a discount for collection which isn't applied when you collect. As the site has only recently been launched we've put it down to teething problems. Staff were friendly when husband went go collect. He tried an ale while waiting which I am assured was in tip top condition. Cask ales available were West Berks Good Old Boy, Sharps Doon Bar and Adnams Broadside. Nice to see to see some good old favourites from the Tracy and Alan days.Great to see another quality establishment joining the Wash Common parade.

Bilal, landlord of the Gun took the brave decision to replace the ' yet another typical pub food menu' with what he knows best and Wash Common did not have - good SE Asian food. Why drive into Newbury for a drink and a lesser food experience? why pay for a taxi? why break the law? You should take a taxi from Newbury to Wash Common to experience The Gun.The Restaurant at the Gun has an excellent chef and quality service provided by Mo (Mohammed) and Petra. The bar and the overall running of the whole Pub taken care of by Bill (Bilal) and Christian.Thoroughly recommended for food, service and friendliness - definitely authentic and down to earth rather than pretentious. Go,see, hear and taste for yourself.

I have to be honest and admit I wasn't expecting much from an Indian restaurant plonked at the back of a local pub on the outskirts on Newbury. I was told about the new(ish) restaurant by a friend and thought I'd give it a go.I started by ordering a take away which was better than any we had tried from the town centre establishments. Had the Chicken Jalfrezi and the mixed kebab starter. Was impressed enough to try the restaurant a week later. Same result - impressed with the food and service was friendly enough. The bits I'd encourage them to improve - chutneys that accompany the papadums could be better; mixed kebab starter is a little under portioned for the price and the naan breads are average. However, the main courses are very very good.They should also think about advertising in the local area more as not many people know about this place. It definitely worth a visit.

I've visited The Gun many times over the years as it's within walking distance from where I live. I was surprised but delighted to see that, as well as still being a pub, it is now an Indian restaurant. Just to be clear, this isn't a pub which happens to serve one or two different curries, it has fully fledged Indian menu with all the familiar offerings. We shared a Chicken Rezala, a mixed vegetable Rogon, a plain rice and a plain nan. This was just about right for our appetites. It was nice to have Kingfisher beer, but it that was quite expensive. The waiters and waitress were very efficient and friendly.

New Indian restaurant and takeaway just opened in the pub. I had a couple of drinks then ordered a takeaway. Quick service, good value for money and very tasty. Would recommend.
