The Grumpy Mole in Reigate and Banstead

Soggy veg. Very average food. Not impressed. Service was good but didn't make up for the mediocre dinner. (Sunday roast, chicken).

An unusually disappointing meal at this Grumpy Mole. The lamb rump had been poorly prepared by the butcher/ kitchen and had too much gristle and was extremely tough. At least a third of the meat was discarded as tough and un-chewable. No one came to inquire “how were our meals” and as a result I had to attract the attention of a server to pass my comment of complaint - suggesting she told both the chef and the butcher about the poor quality cut of meat. The beer was also not good, likely bottom of the barrel. Lack of attention to detail resulted in a very below standard meal at this restaurant.

Despite knowing the area well, it’s the first time we have visited but it won’t be the last! The food was great with well sized portions and despite being busy, the service was spot on!

First visit here but know the GM chain and my new favourite over RH8 Sorry! Great welcome and friendly welcome to a busy Monday lunchtime. We had the liver and bacon and the best pub pie. All fabulous and even the dog got a treat. Such a lovely ambiance which is hard to create but the team were superb.

Excellent Restaurant. We have never been disappointed when eating at the Grumpy Mole in Tadworth. The food is delicious, the helpings are generous, the staff are lovely - friendly, helpful, smiley - and the service is excellent. All nine dishes were delivered at the same time. This is no mean feat in a very busy restaurant. We are all looking forward to going again soon.

Went for a scrumptious meal with the hubby and my little rascals (sorry if anyone’s meal was ruined by little Barney screaming and throwing up). A lovely staff member with the bow in her hair, I didn’t catch her name, was very helpful with him couldn’t have been more pleased, hopefully she gets a bonus for that mess!! Ha ha ha ha. Today my partner & I enjoyed a delicious three course Sunday Lunch at the Grumpy Mole in Tadworth. As we had deliberately not eaten breakfast because we knew the menu was great, we were hungry and chose the leek & potato soup, and the smoked salmon to start. But the main courses were the stars of the meal - the sumptuous Sunday roasts. The portions were generous and delicious. We didn’t quite finish everything on the plate (next time we she’ll both request no Yorkshire Puddings - controversial, I know) but we both fancied a dessert. Me especially as it’s rare to find an apple strudel on a dessert menu, and having visited this pub many times over the past twenty five years, their apple strudels are very moreish. The service is always spot-on too. Highly recommended.

The menu was so good it was hard to choose!! The food was delicious for everyone in our group and the staff were welcoming and lovely. Faultless well done!

I would like to thank the staff and manager for being so understanding when we arrived late for our lunch yesterday. Sadly, I got lost and spent over an hour driving around the surrounding country side. I was very grateful for the warm welcome as I was very stressed and very late. Our meal was excellent so our visit was most enjoyable.

Went with friends to celebrate a special birthday. Arrived early and our welcome was great! Our table wasn’t quite ready but they let us wait in the bar area. Afternoon Tea & Prosecco was delicious. Lots of it and you could tell freshly made. They catered for gluten/dairy free diet very well. John was very hospitable as were all the staff. Thank you all.

Had a Sunday lunch today waited 50 minutes no one told us it would take so long arrived cold no apology they reheated it in the microwave. I will not be returning the standards are not the same dont waist your money.

Nice to see the place busy with customers and welcoming real fire. Staff were busy but charming, had starter and main but no room for pudding. Yorkshire puddings impressive, and liked having an individual gravy boat. Only comments were beef was quite well done and I'd specifically requested it pink, and the parsnips could've spent a bit longer in the roasting tin as they were quite hard.

We hadn't been since just before the Christmas lockdown closure 4.5 months ago. It was an utter joy to return to this wonderful establishment and were treated to a very warm 'royal welcome' by John and the bar staff/managment, for our monday lunch.We were able to book a quiet table in the bar area which was very enjoyable. We both had the exceptionally good 'Corn-Fed Chicken' and bacon in a beautiful sauce ~ accompanied by mixed vegetables, (sautee potatoes, cauliflower, carrots, mushrooms), all very appetising. My wife had Aspalls ciders and I had a large glass of their delicious South American, Malbec which was glorious and went down a real treat. To follow had the usual scrummy bread and butter pudding with custard and ice cream which was delicious. Have to say the service provided in the bar area was again fantastic and we were very well looked after, a well deserves '6 Stars'. Can't wait to return and have already made another booking fairly soon.

Having been stuck in for so much of the last couple of months, me and my husband decided to treat ourselves to our very own "office lunch". The Grumpy Mole is a cross between a pub and a restaurant and we really like the atmosphere. Because of Covid, the Christmas decorations are not nearly as over the top as usual, but the staff deserve praise for still making the occasion Christmassy. We went for the festive menu and both chose prawn cocktail and roast turkey. We were too full to go for dessert, but enjoyed our coffee and mince pies. The reason I haven't given this review five stars is that we felt that the roast turkey was rather tasteless. But there was plenty of it.

We were fortunate to be able to book a quiet table in the bar area which was very enjoyable. We both had the exceptionally good 'trio of roasts' accompanied by yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, plus cabbage and carrots and the usual horse raddish and mint sauce. The portions were huge and the food scrumpcious. Also had a large glass of their delicious South American, Malbec which was glorious and went down a real treat. As a party of 4 we booked a slot at the extremely busy time of Christmas Eve. Whilst the other members of my party enjoyed their meal, I suffered extreme food poisoning immediately after the meal, and spent Christmas Day in a semi coma, and feared for my life. I had to contact the owner 3 times before receiving a reply or acknowledgment after 10 days, and then was sent letters purporting to be from an Independent health Inspector, but in reality was an adviser to the owner. Extremely dissatisfied, and will never return to this venue again.

Always an amazing experience at The Grumpy Mole. The food is hearty and great quality. My table ordered the steak & ale pie, chicken, leek & ham pie and the cranberry & Brie Wellington - all of which were polished off! The vibe inside is extremely cosy and warm, probably one of the nicest pub interiors I’ve been to! Staff are also lovely and attentive.

Staff extremely helpful service brilliant. Food whilst on the hole was excellent a slight problem with the lamb which was requested medium rare but arrived well done and consequently on the tough side. Otherwise as usual a great meal.

We always enjoy great food here and the service is outstanding but it had been a while since we visited so we thought we would check out once again. As anticipated the safety arrangements were well organised and were consisistently adhered to. The food was lovely and staff made a particular effort to chat with customers making the experience even better. Despite the current difficult circumstances we will certainly visit even more regularly. No question this is the best restaurant in Tadworth even though it is only marginally more expensive

I visited the Grumpy Mole on Sunday, the first time I have eaten out since Covid began. I was very nervous, especially seeing as though I was taking my three month old baby. I cannot praise the staff enough for how incredibly professional they were. There must have a been a lot of hard work that went into getting the business Covid safe and I have to say I felt totally relaxed during my visit. It was clean, there was sanitiser, staff wore masks etc. Well done to the bar man who politely but firmly refuse to allow a couple to enter unless they went and got their masks. Very well handled. The food was also delicious. Best roast I’ve had all year! I hope they can continue on as it did feel completely safe.

Had a lovely evening with a really good dinner to a very high standard. Was very impressed that they had remember our anniversary and our pudding with a special message on the plate!
