James Cafe and Bakery, this used to be Mrs Patels Newsagent. Now a small and pleasant cafe. I have visited three times and each time had the. Turkish Breakfast which came with a salad including chopped tomato, cucumber, cheese cubes, olives and a sort of omelette with Turkish sausage and homos. The first visit it also had flat Turkish bread which goes really well with the breakfast. Wonderful to dip your flat Turkish bread into the homos. On my second visit i did not get the Turkish bread, very disappointing. An English roll and butter in its place. The third visit, 5 December 2020 i again was disappointed not to get the Turkish flat bread but received an English Roll and butter. I did ask and was told we dont have the Turkish bread. This place calls itself a bakery so whipping up the Turkish Bread shouldn’t be a problem. The Cappuccino was excellent. The staff are pleasant it really is a nice place and i wish them success. Things they should do to improve. Stop offering salt and pepper in paper sachets. Stop offering your customers tiny paper napkins that are only little bigger than a sheet of toilet paper.

So my mum and I popped in to James' cafe in Horley after completing a few errands. We've not been to James' cafe before and chose it over one of the other local, popular cafes as we wanted to give this a go.Firstly I'll state, as I feel it is quite important for people to know during these uncertain times; there did not feel like any precautions were being taken in line with Covid-19 restrictions. Masks/shields nor gloves were worn by staff, there is no signage regarding social distancing, tables are not two metres apart and it seems as though the staff just allow guests to sit anywhere they like. A few of the tables were still dirty and the sofa areas had crumbs on. Alongside that when we saw the plates be removed from the tables, I didn't once see any wiping down taking place. To be perfectly honest, this didn't fill me with confidence. We encountered a few issues whilst in the cafe. We ordered a large cappucino, medium ice vanilla coffee and two mozzarella, pesto & tomato melt paninis. We wait around 30 mins for the paninis, however only one was brought over to us - it seemed they didn't make the second panini. We waited another 15 minutes before the second one arrived. The lady taking orders/serving couldn't have been more apologetic and we were very forgiving, however it wasn't particularly busy in the cafe so we were slightly confused over the long wait and mistake just for two paninis.Having said that, the staff are really friendly and chatty, they make you feel very welcome. I feel bad about mentioning the above issues because of how nice they are. By way of apology, the lovely staff gave us two baklava cakes on the house which was a lovely touch and very much appreciated - they were really nice too! As we left the staff all apologised again which was nice.Overall, nice enough cafe, lovely staff but I do firmly believe some improvements need to be made in terms of their hygiene standards most especially during these uncertain times.

Dropped in for a snack , two microwaved meat slices, not nice and two bitter coffees for £9.90 ! While sitting there watched girl behind the counter filling the Helmans mayonnaise bottles with cheap non branded stuff. Wonder what else they do? Won't be seeing me there again.

As regular visitors to James Cafe & Bakery, we are now treated as one of the family. As I mentioned before , the sausage rolls are SIMPLY THE BEST EVER the freshly squeezed orange or grapefruit juice has now become a very firm favourite of mine. James makes a Chicken Salad which eaten hot or cold is excellent - we often have two to take away which we have as a evening meal . All this & a lot more beside begs the question that if you have not yet eaten here - WHY NOT ? You do not know how much you have been missing.

We popped into James Cafe with family members for lunch. It was a cold day and we fancied something warm to eat. We were not disappointed, we ordered jacket potoatoes, hot toasted panni's and I had a chichen and rice dish. The food is of a high quality and very tasty. The staff are very friendly and always helpful, creating a lovely welcome environment. I have dietary needs and the staff always support me with this and make me lovely food to make me feel included. This is a lovely cafe, don't walk pass, pop in, grab a cake and coffee, brunch, lunch. This is a great location for meeting friends, being on your own or even a business meeting. This has become my favourite place to eat. Well done to all the staff for creating such a lovely place to visit.

I do not know why it is called a bakery as it does not seem to bake bread and what bread it does sell is very limited. I bought a loaf and it was made in London. Very disappointing.

After driving around looking for somewhere to eat, we found this little Cafe on Facebook and decided to give it a try. When we walked we were greeted by friendly people behind the counter. There was a good assortment of lunches to choose from, including salads, paninis, sandwiches to hot foods like burgers and jacket potatoes. All of these foods are very reasonably priced. The egg roll we ordered was so fresh and delicious and the coronation chicken jacket potato was full of flavour and cooked very well. The cafe itself is clean, light and airy with bi-folding doors that open up the shop which was lovely on this warm day. The seating area was a mixture of sofas, bucket chairs and wooden chairs all of which are comfy. The service was brilliant and the staff are so friendly. I would highly recommend this cafe and I will definitely come back again and tell people about it.

Slightly disappointed with the portion size of the Avocado on toast. For £8.50 (with a poached egg) it seemed it had been thrown into the plate. And thrown in front of my son. Taste was good though.

Had a long layover at the airport and luckily spent it here at this bakery. It had a real small-town feel. James, the owner knew a lot of the customers. What I liked most was he recommended I wait an extra 20 minutes since more fresh items that were to arrive shortly instead of trying to sell the older items. The prices were extremely reasonable and the selection was excellent. I got a chocolate croissant and a cheese and bacon turnover. Everything was fresh just out of the oven. The croissant was flaky and soft with just the right amount of chocolate. The turnover had plenty of cheese and the bacon was a little salty but the soft flaky crust made up for it. James is very approachable and will answer any questions you have and even give you advice on other spots to hit in the small town.

Wow. My sister and I were going to visit an aunt on the afternoon of 31st October, so we decided to go to our favourite cafe in Horley for breakfast. We had an omelette and chips between us (they are large and very filling) and we decided to take some cakes with us for tea at our aunties. We had difficulties choosing which cakes to take as they all looked delicious. We made our choices in the end and took the cakes with us. It was a very lovely teatime treat and the cakes were delicious. We will certainly go back for more and our cousin has also said she will visit because they were gorgeous.

Everytime I can, I avoid to go to named brands to have a coffee, etc as I believe that the consistency is very unstable and here's a example that we should choose local businesses. This lovely place is very presentable, the food is lovely and fresh, the prices are very good and the service is outstanding. Is the second time that I have been here and I'm impressed with the consistency of food and service, it makes me feel like home! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I moved in horley in October 2017..sence than i have been in all the caffees and bars around town but then i found james's cafe and bakery. I am a Norwegian cabin crew so i wasn't passing a lot of time home but every time i was in horley i was in this cafe. Since the start james and the rest of the staff have been amazing with me. They are very kind and very nice. I tried most of the food and the coffes and i can confirm that everything is fresh and nice. James puts his heart in his business and all the people are happy when they live the cafe.

I work in a local care home & regularly take one of our clients in for a coffee or hot chocolate. The service is always very good, they know our client by her first name & always make her feel very welcome. James always make a fuss of her & she really enjoys her visits there sometimes enjoying a cake with her drink. I would highly recommend James cafe for good service, friendly staff & excellent food & drinks.

Went here for lunch as two doors away another cafe was full of people. This one was empty, ordered a sandwich with chicken and salad, asked for onion which they forgot along with buttered bread. I did mention the bread was old and dry but still paid the full price. Overpriced poor quality food. Won't be going back!!!!

I have rencently moved to Horley town and I didn’t really know anyone here since I relocated to this part of the country for work. Since I have found James Bakery and cafe, my staying in Horley town become more friendlier and it gave me a sense of belonging. The staff and management are worm and they have great human skills dealing with different types of people coming from different country since gatwick airport is just s couple miles away from the business. I have a Shai Latte with Pain au chocolat most of of the morning, the staff always smile when they see because they know my order is the same every morning. I would recommend greatly to anyone passing trough gatwick or Horley to come and explore this humble but pleasant place.

I live in Horley and have wanted to visit James for a coffee/cake for ages. Whilst passing today my 5 year old boy said he desperately needed the toilet so I went in and asked if he could use the facilities but was quite shocked when the lady told us that it was for customers only and we should use the (disgusting) public toilet several minutes walk away instead. Little did she know that I was planning on stopping for a coffee afterwards however after that awful service I shall not go back again. I went to the coffee shop two doors down instead which thankfully let my boy use the facilities.

I’ve lived in Horley 8 months and never visited this place, largely because it didn’t have kerb side appeal, although its advertisement as a boulangerie and patisserie had me curious.I visited this morning and while we were the only customers initially, the lady serving was very friendly and took her time to produce 2 excellent coffees (one regular cappuccino and one soya latte). The soya latte was one of the best I’d ever had. She did forget the croissant my husband ordered but then realised and brought it over. I’m not sure if the goods are made on site, however they did offer a selection of pastries and cakes (Brownies, tiffin, rocky road), though not the place if you’re looking for anything more indulgent or a special treat. If I was to visit again, I think it would be for a takeaway as personally the environment wasn’t a relaxing one for me.My only criticism of the place was there was no toilet paper or hand wash in the ladies bathroom.
