Have been visiting Cromer many many times over the years but had never found this gem before. Was made to feel welcome as soon as we set foot in the building - very personable and friendly. Food was amazing with many ingredients home grown. The venison and chorizo stew to share was out of this world. They were also very patient with young diners - offered a children’s menu too. Already planning our return.

Our first trip to the Grove garden restaurant . Despite being locals as they are not dog friendly had to wait til we could get a sitter. Beautiful grounds though poorly lit for parking. Very warm welcome into beautiful building. Mix up with our booking so we had to wait to be seated. We had two courses which were really superb. Only thing that let it down was slow chaotic service - we had 4 different people serving our table- which led to our dessert being forgotten. The manager kindly offered a free drink as recompense. Lovely staff and wonderful food. Would go back

We had booked an afternoon tea for a family 50th wedding anniversary celebration. The service provided by Jodie was superb from start to finish - she had decorated the table with 50th anniversary serviettes and sparkling decorations, and we were thoroughly looked after throughout the time we were there. A bottle of prosecco that I had asked for was waiting for us in a wine cooler by the table, and nothing was too much trouble. A thoroughly enjoyable experience thanks to the care and attention shown by Jodie. We'll be back!

Only a short holiday in Cromer so searched for a decent restaurant. This one came up with good reviews and as it does Tapas, it was very inviting. The staff in the Sundowner Restaurant were excellent, explaining how the ordering worked. The food was freshly cooked and you could watch it all happening. Everything was fabulous and very, very tasty AND value for money. We particularly liked the Cromer Crab. We paid £59.50, which also included two drinks, all portions were generous.

After having several expensive but poor quality meals in Cromer we were starting to think that the food in the area was not good. We then went to The Grove and finally had a marvellous evening! We sat in a lovely cosy sitting room initially and chose our drinks. The waitresses were very pleasant and friendly. We then went through to the main restaurant. We were very happy with the food, very good quality and I didn’t mind paying a little more for it. Even the kids were happy and they are extremely fussy eaters! All in all an excellent evening to end our holiday.

So, i was bought a voucher for my birthday by a friend for an afternoon tea at the Grove. My husband has unfortunately had three lots of major surgery in London in the last year and i have been unable to use it until yesterday. I asked the Grove via e mail if i could have it as a take away and was told yes i could and was asked when i would like it for. I emailed back twice over two days and got no reply. On the third time i e mailed i included my phone number and promptly got a phone call (this was three days after my initial e mail).I was told i could collect it at 2pm yesterday which we did. At approximately £40 for an afternoon tea, and knowing what the Grove was like historically (albeit 20 years ago), i had high expectations! My husband and i opened the box to find some dried up sandwiches (one of which had one missing!!), which looked disgusting. Two scones which were hard; a small tub of cream, two burnt cheese straws, two mini sausage rolls, two tiny jars of jam, two very small bottles of prosecco, and four tiny bits of cake which had seen better days. We were so so disappointed and in fact horrified at the quality and quantity of the contents of the box. Apart from the prosecco and two miniature jars of jam, the whole lot went into the dustbin. We were not willing to take the risk of becoming ill by eating the contents. I would not have even offered the contents to my dogs it was so below standard. I feel we got the previous days left overs ( as one who bakes alot i am in fact sure we did). I would never recommend an afternoon tea from here, and i would have given a zero if i could have. We are locals, and i thought so much better of the Grove than this!

We visited the day of the second lockdown. Google maps initially directs you to a new housing development, but head round the corner and you'll see the venue, which is a small country hotel, and looks very nice. The food is good, but a few minor issues. Starter of mussels in cream was fresh and tasty, but a bit heavy on the cream for my taste. Could have done with some fresh parsley and the "artisan" bread was indistinguishable from supermarket sliced. The second starter of salmon was good but needed a toast or crouton for texture. We ordered the beef and chicken for mains. The chicken was supposed to be accompanied by dauphinoise but was replaced with boiled spuds. It was the day of lockdown, so I suspect they just switched for convenience. The purees to accompany the chicken were bland. I think a vegetable is needed to balance the dish. The beef main was excellent, and the pureed potatoes were good, but again the other purees were bland. We shared the de-constructed Eton Mess and it was good. The carbonated lemon curd was superb, sharp and "fizzy". The service overall was friendly and good but a bit patchy. Not easy to "catch their eye". I would recommend and it would get a five from me with a few minor tweaks.

We chose this venue near our hotel because of the TA reviews. Therefore I was expecting better. It's a guest house open for dining. We had a warm welcome and shown to the dining room. Because the tables and floor had no coverings (probably to make it easier and cheaper to clean between guests) it all seemed a bit stark and not what I was expecting for the rating. The service was good and the wine list perfectly good. I had a very good creamy mussels starter (the highlight of my meal) and my wife had tasty leek & potato soup. Then we both had roasted trout which was only average. For dessert I tried the chocolate creme brulee which had a lemon sorbet topping - too much of a contrast for my taste.Overall it was a pity that, for me, it didn't live up to the 4.5 star TA rating, even if it may have been the best restaurant in the local area.

We chose the restaurant from a selection around north norfolk and although was out of our way we were really pleased we came.Drinks in a comfortable lounge in front of a fire before the meal. Some lovely wines and the menu and food was superb. Very surprising the quality of the cooking and food. The surrounding sometimes lend themselves to complacency of just serving hotel guests but the chef clearly caters for diners and whilst a quiet country hotel feel to the restaurant the food made all the talking for us.Being picky we had to point out the woody leeks and were totally confused why the chef would serve them considering the quality and flavour of everything else. I must say however, give it a try I dont think you will be disappointed. Atmosphere wise is a little quiet as you would expect from a hotel resaurant. but make your own atmosphere :)The service was professional attentive and friendly.Thank you a gem which could really be something :)

We had booked a table and arrived 10 minutes early and seated in the bar but not even offered to order drinks whilst we watched countless staff pass by and ignore us. We finally ordered and were shown to a dark table in the corner of the restaurant. Our starter of venison scotch eggs was so dry we considered pouring our wine over it. The hard boiled eggs in the centre had been cooked to death. My husbands fillet beef came with totally flavourless coloured spots on the plate and a teacups of a bovril like brown salt which was totally inedible. When we told the waiting staff about our view of the meal we were dismismissed with the comment that it was supposed to be like that and ushered out having paid for our overpriced undervalued disappointing meal. Needless to say we will not return

Recently visited for cream tea with family, but unfortunately came away feeling a bit disappointed. Food wise, the brownies and macaroons were delicious, however the rest left a bit to be desired. The sandwiches seemed to have an excessive amount of butter, but hardly any filling, and the other cakes felt shop-bought and a bit uninspired. The scones weren't fresh and we were originally only provided a small pot of clotted cream to go round our party of 4, which seemed funny when by comparison we were given pretty much a bucket of milk to go with our hot drinks. However the young waiter did bring us some more clotted cream and overall was very polite and helpful.Another note on the scones was one member of our party told me that when they had previously visited they had been asked if they wanted a plain or fruit scone. But on this occasion we were just provided fruit. Overall, a real shame as we had been looking forward to our visit.

We ate here after seeing the banner outside offering pizzas on the lawn. Some of our party were unhappy eating inside a restaurant with the current Covid situation so this seemed like a good option. We were staying in town near the pier and this restaurant was a pleasant 15 minute walk out of town. We were greeted by friendly staff who showed us to a large table outside well spaced from other tables. All of our party were completely comfortable with the safety of the arrangements. Our drinks order was taken promptly and there was a play area for children to keep them occupied while we waited for our food. The pizzas were excellent with a good choice and everyone enjoyed the food. There was a good choice of desserts which were of equally good quality. The menus are available online so we knew what to expect before arriving. Staff were attentive without being intrusive. All in all we had an excellent night out and were able to walk off the generous portions on the way back down in to town.

Belated birthday meal for my mother which we were really looking forward to as she has been in self isolation for five months. The house itself is an old building and quaintly attractive and in a beautiful setting not far from town, perfect start until we walked in and greeted by a rude manager/ waitress we were not sure as she was just happy moaning that they were exceptionally busy and rolled her eyes.Begrudgingly shown to our table which was not in keeping to the old style property,it was relatively modern with leather chairs and no tablecloth ! I know we are still in a pandemic and life is still a little different but there was no effort made,a little vase of flowers would of been pretty in a dark dull room. The menu was on line only, shame if you didn’t have an internet device, again attention to detail,a few print outs on paper do not cost the earth and can be discarded for recycling. After ordering two of the meals were wrong and sent back, forgivable mistake but not an apology from the manager/head waitress.Other waiting staff were pleasant especially the lovely lady whose first night it was thank you for making us feel more relaxed. The food was definitely not worth the money and disappointing.... Had many meals in Cromer but this was sadly a poor show in many ways....! Again the rudeness continued when the card payment machine came and was told in no uncertain terms..’ Put your card in the machine, wait and then enter you pin’ NO please or Thank you ! I do not know how I kept calm and did not say anything, I wish I had now. When we left the dining hall there was not one member of staff to say goodbye, thank you or hope you enjoyed your meal. All of us walked out feeling we had an unhappy experience even my two young grandchildren commented that nobody said goodbye.I have been in hospitality and rudeness is not acceptable, mistakes with food at busy times are.I would just like to add that I am not normally a negative person and do not feel happy with myself leaving such a negative review but first impressions count and ours was an unpleasant one.....from start to finish...!

We were greeted by staff and shown through to a comfortable seating area to look at the menus, chose a bottle of wine, which was average price for this style of restaurant. Taken through to eat and we chose to have two courses, main and desert. The food was delicious so many individual flavours and complementing each other a true fine ding experience! Three niggles:The staff were dressed in very poorly fitting clothing which were showing too much of the staffs profilesThe staff were not particularly friendly and whilst we were choosing our food they were bickering amongst themselvesThe wine was lovely and well chilled but was served in extremely cheap glasses which were very thick. My wife and I had an evening meal for both of the days we were at the hotel. The restaurant was fine on the first night ( excellent table staff - I hope they pay them well), but far from good on the second. I don't eat meat and ordered a 'jack fruit and mixed bean cassoulet' (OK, not to everyone's taste), which was to be served up with a fennel slaw. Sounded good to me. Well there were no beans in the cassoulet, no fennel slaw (just a salad), and no explanation. After questioning this, I was told that that the beans would 'be coming'. This kinda misses the point of a cassoulet, where the ingredients are stewed together.I mentioned all of this to the desk when we checked out, but they seemed pretty unimpressed and about this, apart from (obviously) not charging me for that course and a £5 deduction from my wife's meal (which was the surcharge for choosing scallops).Feeling a bit unsatisfied with this, my wife wrote to Richard Graveling, the owner, and I can only describe his response as ignorant (of what a cassoulet is) and overall sarcastic about our complaint. I've noticed from previous complaints on TripAdvisor that he doesn't take kindly to criticism and is frequently sarcastic and dismissive. So please don't respond to this Richard, I've already had enough of your sarcasm and supercilious tone.

So my daughter is not going to die if she has dairy but she is intolerant, we did not tell them this till later as you can usually gauge what is in a main meal. She ordered the chicken which was moist but lacking in taste. It came with a cream sauce not advertised on the menu, thankfully in a separate pot, which she didn't use. Upon asking a different waiter he checked with the chef afterwards to check the ingredients of the meal to make sure there wasn't any hidden dairy/lactose which was a nice gesture. My daughter then decided to mix things up by ordering dairy free ice cream (dark chocolate) with white chocolate sauce because like she says a little bit wont hurt me. (To be clear she does NOT have an allergy, she has an intolerance to dairy). I had the tenderloin which was nice but missing something which I later realised was probably mustard, salt and truffle which is what I would suggest they add for an enhanced taste. However the pudding was out of this world just amazing I had the cheesecake 10/10.

We chose The Grove because it had lots of vegan options on its menu (most of the vegetarian options said they could be made dairy free). It was a meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was lovely that the chef created a vegan canapé for me. The bar area to wait in was really nice. However, it turned out they couldn’t make the risotto vegan, despite saying ‘df on request’, so I asked for the apple and leek strudel. When it arrived, it was served with a plate of shredded iceberg lettuce and not the rocket and pine nuts stated on the menu. When I queried this, the waitress went to speak to the chef and came back to tell me they’d run out of pine nuts and rocket. It would have been better to have been told about this when I ordered. The strudel itself was very nice though, and my husband enjoyed his scallops starter. The main courses that myself and my husband had (stuffed pepper for me and halibut for him) were both really delicious. The dining room didn’t have a great deal of atmosphere, but this was probably because there was only one other couple in there. The waiting staff didn’t seem to be really present much - I had to leave the dining room to locate our waitress to ask her about my starter. There should have been a £5 supplement for my husband’s scallops starter, which was removed to make up for my starter not being as advertised. Overall fine but not brilliant.

Starter of cauliflower steak, tasted nice, cooked well, accompanying cous cous tastless and stodgy. Asparagus and leek risotto, again stodgy, sticky, greasy and lacking in flavour, accompanying puréed tasted diluted. I felt quite queasy by this point and decided not to have a pudding. I know I could have mentioned this to staff but I didn’t think telling them would achieve anything. They wouldn’t be sending the food out if they didn’t think it was fine. The bathroom had both shower and a roll top bath. Very quiet place , we are used to living in a high street so the change was great listening to the birds . Would definitely recommend and would love to stay again in the future when time permits

We were at The Grove with friends on Saturday evening for the 6 course tasting menu with wine and it was fantastic! The wine was described and served at the table by the two charming Italian producers who were our hosts for the evening. Each course was delicious and we had a lovely relaxed meal. When I enquired about buying a case of the sparkling rose, which was amazing, it was almost as if they hadn't considered actually selling any wine on the evening which made a refreshing change from some similar events we have attended elsewhere. My only request would be the if they hold this event again, and I really hope they do, that they have wine to purchase on the night or at least an order form!

We enjoyed the food and excellent location of The Grove. The weather was lovely so we took the short path down to the cliffs. Our family room had an enormous and very comfortable bed, although the bathroom was a little tired - there were marks on the walls and it was difficult to get the shower to the correct temperature. If we’d have been staying longer we would have used the pool, and it was nice to have the option of going for a swim.

Wonderful staff. We arrived from Bedfordshire over 1 hour before the check-in time but our room was ready and we could go in. Our room was very comfortable and warm. Lovely and clean bathroom. Good quality toiletries, complementary tea bags and coffee. Fabulous selection of foods for breakfast and service with a smile. Beautiful house. Fantastic location. However, the swimming pool was a huge letdown. I especially searched for accommodation with the swimming pool and was willing to pay £140 per night for it but very basic facilities, terrible changing rooms and cold water were definitely not worth the money. All the 4 of us were very disappointed with the pool. It needs improvements. It does not suit the stylish main building and other services provided hence only 4 stars from us instead of 5.

Four of us ate here on a cold, wet evening. Lovely, comfortable room with fire and big sofas for pre-dinner drinks. Menu was interesting and well priced for 2 or 3 courses. Dining area was peaceful with plenty of spaces between tables. Bit disappointed with prawn starter ... a bit bland. Monkfish/pork belly combo for main was yummy. No room for desert. Waiting staff need further training to be what is required for a fine dining establishment. I would return.

Lovely stay, thank you. Our room was very comfortable and the bathroom amazing! It's not often we have a great night's sleep in a hotel bed, but the bed in room 8 was the exception! Afternoon tea was delicious as was breakfast this morning. Such a shame you can't accommodate us for Malc's 70th ( you have a taster menu eve planned) as The Grove would be ideal. We will be back!

I’ve stayed in the hotel several times before for business travels and always been impressed with the relaxed and informal atmosphere coupled with the very, very good food. So impressed I dragged my partner there on a rare non-business visit and I’m pleased to say The Grove lived up to expectations with everything we tried on the menu hitting the spot; lovely fresh scallops, very nice hake and definitely the second-best steak I’ve ever eaten. Breakfast the following morning also a triumph with a good range of locally-sourced quality ingredients and plenty of choice. Highly recommended.

Great little cottage in the grounds with all the basics required. Very cosy and warm. Just a bug bear of mine. With recycling, 2 bins should be provided inside. Also I don’t think it’s my responsibility to go hunting for the recycling bins outside. Clear instructions should be left as to their whereabouts. Apart from that we would definitely return.

We were staying in the hotel Sunsay evening so decided to eat in the restaurant. I had read some poor reviews but they do Sunday roast in the evening - nobody could get that wrong could they? I ordered roast beef and was asked how I would like it cooked; I asked for medium. When the dinner was served I thought it looked curled up at the edges but when I tried to cut it it was really tough, like a piece of old shoe leather. I called the waitress and immediately noticed an expression of resignation, as if she knew exactly what I was going to say, and then she asked if it was tough. I told her it was and requested a piece from the middle which was not overcooked - I was then told it was reheated from lunchtime and that's all there was. They did then cook me a piece of pork which was fine, but it was a loin of pork rather than roast pork and it meant my partner and I ate at different times.

We came here for a meal a couple of days ago. We were seated in the relaxing bar to choose our food. The menu was varied and there was a special too. We both ended up choosing the ribeye steak which was cooked to perfection. The accompanying vegetables were also beautifully cooked and had great taste. We both chose different desserts which were equally delicious and not too rich. The restaurant played good background music, the staff were helpful and the two course meal deal represented excellent value for the food we were given. I'll certainly return!

We stopped here for Sunday lunch on the walk from Sheringham back to Cromer after Sunday morning church at Life Church in Sheringham. Conveniently situated just a few minutes from the coast path. Although we had not booked they were able to accommodate us in the garden. Food was excellent and seemed good value.

The food was very good well cooked and presented, we had to wait for a while before our order was placed, however it's a busy local pub which caters for holiday makers also so this could have been the reason for the wait. Cheerful and pleasant staff, I would certainly eat there again.

Been here before as we are fairly local and it was good. But this time terrible and very expensive we had roast pork with apple sauce, stuffing and crackling. Meat was mostly really Fatty and baguette was filled mostly with stuffing best bit was the crackling. At £8 each I expect far better just ripping off the holiday makers. Don’t think we will be going again. It was barely warm so back to the pie man at sheringham for us.
